Walked in and was greater by a gentleman who said he couldn't take my order because he was not on the clock. Which was fine. I was willing to wait. I waited 10mins in the lobby without a soul to take my order. Both Drive through and lobby was empty and the back of kitchen was filled with voices. until i find a better place for chili, Tommy's my #1 go to place as of right now. I normally get a chili cheese burger (or the chili cheese hot dog) and chili cheese fries...mmmmm...even though it's a heart attack waiting to happen but it is just soooo gooood. I dont even know how to describe how good it is. Yes, it's a bit (okay, fine..it's not "a bit") oily, but the taste is just filled w/ goodness. It's got the perfect consistency of chili..it's not beany nor is it dry (there are chili out there that are just dry..like filled w/ a whole bunch of stuff, which i personally not a fan of) their burger & hot dog are pretty big. And it does get messy when you either one. I personally like their chili dog more than Pink's chili dog.. u can actually hear the "crunch" sound at Tommy's. it's a good size of hot dog for their price and it's not far .. and u wont have to wait in long lines like at Pink's. people say The Hat has "the best" chili cheese fries, i disagree. Yes, The Hat gives a bigger portion, but the taste is just okay. Pretty pleasantly surprised about this place! It was my first time having Tommy's despite always seeing them all over (I know, how un-American of me right? Lol). Finally stopped by for lunch because a classmate suggested I try their chili. And holy moly so glad I did! I'm sucker for chili cheese fries, but decided to get the chili burger combo instead (not a fan of chili burgers because of how messy it gets). I asked them to cut the burger in half just so it's easier for me to eat. Their chili burger is really good! Loved how their chili tasted! Definitely not your regular chili. You can tell it's their actual recipe not just from a chili can. Didn't know what I was doing not giving this place a try before. The place is pretty clean and they have a pretty big eating area. Parking is also available so you don't have to park on the street. Going back and trying their chili cheese fries! Already know I'm going to love it lol read more

Tasty but greasy. This place is like In-n-Out with a bunch of greasy chili dumped on it... They serve the food on those wax coated cardboard trays with a sheet of wax paper on it. I was disgusted by the fact that half way through the meal, the oil had leaked through to the TABLE. When we ate here, we could tell who the regulars were because they tended to be the ones that looked like a pimply comic-book-guy from the simpsons. Cashier at the drive thru had problems using the gift card we had so we had to pay with my card. He said it wasn't working. We checked online and there was money on it. When we went to use it at another one they said they could've typed it. That's what they did. So he was more concerned with speed then customer service. Another time we came here the cashier got smart when we were asking about a deal they had. She said what deal? We told her and she said we call it special not deal. It's the same thing. So AMAZING!! Never had a burger from here, saw the cute sign, and I adore the name (it's my dad's and brother's) and my husband and me follow in the que. And oh my goodness, burger was amazing!! Someone last week mentioned to me that Tommy's has a breakfast burrito. I knew about the breakfast sandwich, but I must have been living under a rock not to know about their burrito. Needless to say, today was my first chance to try it, and it was delicious. Every thing seemed balanced and tasty. The only challenge for me was to get there before 11am. Burgers barely had chili & that was even after I asked for extra chili. Chili cheese fries were 1/2 the size of a normal order of fries & also barely had any chili as well & those too were requested with extra chili. I was really disappointed with the service we received coming from a place I've loved as a child growing up, so I know what a real Tommy's burger & chili cheese fries looks like growing up blocks away from the Original Tommy's on Beverly & Rampart. I will never return to the location in El Monte & I will let all my friends & family know that although we all love & crave that chili that this location is not the 1 to go to. No matter how desperate we are for a Tommy's burger. Horrible drive through service! I was placing a large order and after every item the cashier would say "anything else" really rudely. He was no better when we got up to the window. We had a total of 7 drinks and he didn't think to hand me cup holder, I had to ask. Twice. Then we pull away and I said that doesn't look like everything we ordered. Turns out we were missing a cheeseburger AND 3 orders of fries!! I parked and went in and Lizbeth was really rude to me saying she made the burgers herself. I showed her everything we got and she told her crew to give us what we were missing. Now she told them in Spanish so my coworker asked her for straws in Spanish. She looked at him like he had grown another head and played stupid like she didn't understand him. Not a very good example for her crew considering she was the "crew leader ". The original Tommys! Classic and doesn't get any better. This location is clean and has a lot of seating compared to the last location at peck and ramona. Price is good for the classic food. Air condition. Trying out the caliente burger. I like this location. Right off the freeway. Now the cons, the soda!! They used to have coke cola but now switch it to pepsi. Which is a disappoint since i love coke. Also the staff is pretty good. With the exception of one staff member . i think this is one of the oldest burger places i know and it's excellent. The burgers are quite messy because the sauce is the sloppy joe, and they make it pretty good, and the meat is not cheap, but it looks expensive. The chili fries are bomb not going to lie i like this chili fries more than the hot chili fries. Since the fries are thin slice and compare to over place, for example, the hat fries are too thick-cut, and i dislike about that, and thin slice are better because it stays crunchy more and tastes better. read more

Just discovered Tommy's the last year or so. Pretty legit. Chili burgers and dogs are no joke. Food isn't heavy or greasy, kinda like the in n out of chili burgers, fresher ingredients without a lot of filler (I can only assume anyways). And for this particular location, this has to be the cleanest fast food place I have ever been in. I washed my hands by rubbing them on the floor, that's how clean this place was.
