Pancakes (Hotcake) Combo
Mitzi A.

Today is Nat'l Pancake Day! Was working so taking a late lunch break today and had to run out and grab me some pancakes to celebrate. Love coming to this ol' school diner to grab an d fashioned breakfast or lunch special. Today I am getting the pancake combo (and senior menu bcuz I qualify!) and enjoying every bite. The pancakes are the cakes are the great old school malty type that taste so goooood! From the jukeboxes on each table to 50s -70s hits playing when I walked in, I am instantly transported back to when life was simpler...which makes my pancakes taste even better! The wait staff is always pleasant and friendly. Perfect place to chill and enjoy breakfast and lunch. Also try their broasted chicken if you havent...think light and cruspy fried chicken that isnt greasy!

We always have excellent service when we come here! We love coming for breakfast and enjoying the diner style atmosphere. Our dishes are always so good and comforting! The portions are great sized and food is just delicious!

Cute little diner around the area. It gives me vintage vibes. I came here for breakfast and got the waffles with bacon and eggs. They were a little busy so we had to wait about 15-20 mins before we got seated. Food came out fairly quick. Only down side is one bathroom and the table we were sitting out didn't have the music player working.

Traveling thru Elk Grove for a visit with family, I wanted to find a 50's-ish diner, this one hits the description. I'm not sure why there's only 3.5 stars, this should have 4.5. Why? The Service is friendly and quick. Restaurant is clean and organized. Food was prepared wonderfully. I ordered the waffle breakfast with added spinach to my scrambled eggs. My wife ordered the NY steak and eggs, prepared perfectly- right temp and flavor. Was very tender. I'm saving this place for our next visit to Elk Grove.

15.99 for a waffle combo is fine, 14.99 for the Sr waffle combo with half the food is nuts....

This place is extremely over priced. 15.99 for a waffle combo is fine, 14.99 for the Sr waffle combo with half the food is nuts.... You charge a dollar less and take away half the food???? Why even have a Sr menu lol everything on it is 15 bucks Sr menus are supposed to be cheap with less food not a dollar less with half....

We ordered for pickup and had to wait nearly 30 minutes passed the pickup time. Take a look at this photo of the most horrendous restaurant food I have ever had in my life. I have been a regular customer for years but will never go back there again!!

Underrated place in Elk Grove. Food and service were great. Their milk shakes are *chef kiss* and their onion rings were perfectly battered. Burger and meat loaf were cooked to perfection. The steamed veggies needed some salt. I like the ambiance of the restaurant and their music selection.

When a friend invited me out for lunch, we quickly narrowed our choice down to Original Mikes. We unanimously agreed that it was the best place to go due to the large variety of options on its menu. There's just so many delicious items offered. Breakfast can be served all day, along with appetizing lunches, dinners and desserts. I like to call it comfort food at it's finest! This time I was in a more healthier, fresh salad mode. I ordered the Crab & Shrimp Salad: A combination of crab and shrimp over fresh greens surrounded by avocado slices, tomatoes, and a hard-boiled egg. Served with your choice of dressing, ( I got Honey Mustard). My friend ordered a senior Cheeseburger: A beef patty, cooked to order, and served on a white or wheat bun. Topped with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and sliced white onion. Served with your choice of French fries or fresh fruit. He got a generous serving of French fries which he also generously shared. My other companion was in a stressed, somber mood and took a long time deciding, but eventually just ordered a large bowl of oatmeal. We enjoyed a leisurely afternoon just sitting and talking as we consumed a tasty lunch together. I was a little worried that we were using up too much of the servers time, but she was very attentive and gracious as we sat in deep discussion about our controversial morning's events. Fortunately it wasn't too busy during the late afternoon. Basically our whole experience made the rest of our day pleasantly satisfied. I look forward to returning again soon and trying more menu options!

10/29/2023 Visiting our old stomping grounds.. I know I've had reviews in the past.. So good to see they are doing really well.. Lots of regulars and buzzing with friendly staff.. Orders: breakfast burrito- big and full of ingredients.. Two egg with bacon - perfect and hit the spot for me.. Son got the scrambled eggs and sausage and he devoured it! So glad we came! Coffee was always filled to the brim! Can't wait for lunch..

There aren't too many breakfast spots in Elk Grove. Original Mikes has been around for many many years and they are good. Definitely better than your standard American diner. It's a nice casual spot to go with a group.

Came in for Saturday morning breakfast. It was pretty busy but we were seated right away. Hostess took our drink order right away as we waited for our waitress. Love the old diner look. I ordered country fried steak with hash browns and sausage n gravy. Country fried steak was delicious. Hash browns were pretty standard. Biscuits and gravy were cold so I only took a bite. My kiddo had chicken tenders with fries and a side of corn bread. Chicken tenders were good. Juicy and not dry. Fries were basic and kind of limp. Delicious corn bread & honey.

My husband & I live in the Monterey area, but our elderly moms live in Galt & Pioneer. So, with busy lives we decided to try & give them a Mother's Day they'd really like. I was searching up restaurants that were doing Mother's Day events in their area. I didn't want to do a buffet or be in a place that was going to be so packed no one could hear each other. Tough challenge. But I found the Mother's Day brunch event at the Brick House, so decided to make reservations. I personally liked that you had to leave a deposit to hold the reservation. That tells me they're serious about making sure it was not overcrowded. The menu was limited due to it being a special event, but the items to choose from seemed interesting. Plus the bottomless mimosas & bloody Mary's was a big bonus. Our reservation was at 10:15AM. I'll start off with the review by mentioning my dad. He is a grumpy old guy who doesn't get out much. I've had to "warn" wait staff to ignore him; that he's a grump & won't be paying the bill, we will, so to not let any comments phase them, & we will try to keep him in line. Luckily he doesn't know what yelp is! When we were reviewing the menu the night before, he made the comments, "weird menu, it will be crowded, bottomless drinks? That means they will come by one time with tiny glasses." So we arrive a little early but are immediately seated in a very quiet area with only a couple of other tables occupied. The Grumpy old man: "see. They stuck us where we won't get any service." As soon as we sat down our waitress came over & immediately wished us all a happy mother's Day & could she get us a Bloody Mary or mimosa & that they were bottomless. And that she'd also be bringing our pastry board. We ordered our drinks & my dad made the comments, loud enough for the waitress to hear, "ok girls. Your one small mimosa will be coming out along with cold donuts. you'll never be offered another one, so enjoy." Within a few minutes us moms got our mimosas. In large wine glasses, filled to the top. Grumpy old man got a Bloody Mary. Nice selection of Pastries were hot out of the oven. He Made the comment, "great, a weak drink." (He hadn't taken a sip yet.") We told the waitress we would need a few minutes to look at the menu, she said fine. No rush. She came back & saw my mom & dad were nearly done with their drinks. Offered another while she took our order. My dad replied: "no. I'm driving." Translation: it's a strong drink. We went to order & my dad ordered the eggs Benedict with pork belly. also muttering it sounded weird, and it would be a shame to throw out such expensive food. He ate every bite & told the waitress it was "ok." (He rarely eats all his food.) Translation: it was probably one of the best he's had. I had the vegetable quiche & it was very good. The mimosas kept being offered & were flowing for the moms well after our food was finished which for it being a special, reservation only event was a pleasant surprise. We finely told the waitress at round 4 us girls were done. The restaurant remained quiet & when we left, it was busy, but not overly so. The manager, Chris, was greeting people & wishing the moms a happy Mother's Day. We were there for a couple of hours & never felt rushed to leave. When the bill came & my husband went to pay it, my dad told him to make sure the tip wasn't included before not leaving one. The waitress had to put up with us girls Constantly getting mimosas without asking for them. Translation: he felt like he had a nice time, the waitress made sure us moms had a nice time & wanted to make sure she got a tip. Us girls decided that we wanted to come back for regular happy hour/dinner next time we visited. My dad grumbled that he'd have to come too so we'd have a ride back. Translation: he wants to come back. Lol It was pricey, but worth every penny for the wonderful Mother's Day we were able to give our older moms. I'd definitely do it again next year if they have it. Thank you!

My husband…read moreand I came here for Valentine's Day even though I mentioned to him my prior and only experience was not the greatest. What convinced me was their Valentine's menu and let me say it sure didn't disappoint! Our server was Mia who was an absolute pleasure to have. She was attentive, kind, and very informative of the menu when we were indecisive. We were seated in their speakeasy, completely separate from the main restaurant, which I enjoyed much more. (less hustle and bustle) The ambiance was more romantic and intimate. I chose the Grilled Salmon served with garlic mash potatoes, fried brussels sprouts, and maple bourbon glaze. This was 15/10! Everything was perfection. The salmon wasn't too wet or dry, brussels were lightly crispy and not bitter like I've had at other places, garlic mash was well-seasoned and so creamy and fluffy. That glaze was everything that pulled the dish together! The maple glaze wasn't too sweet and had a nice subtle flavor. If they ever have this on their regular menu I'd order in a heartbeat. My husband got their North Atlantic Lobster Tail. They did not skimp on the lobster at all!!! His plate was served with bistro rice, broccolini, and butter to drown the lobster in of course. Rice was fluffy but could've used a bit more seasoning and broccolini was cooked well while still having a bit of a bite to it. We ended the evening with their Pot de Crème served with hazelnuts, strawberries, and whipped cream. This was another delicious bite! Yes, it is chocolate so you would expect something super decadent and overly sweet. That was not the case... It was similar to a mousse but a little more denser and rich but still offering such a creamy and silky texture. Glad we came here to celebrate Valentine's Day! Cheers to second chances!

We had checked online and even called and were told no tables, but figured maybe we could grab a spot at the bar. When we walked in, I thought, " What's the harm in asking"...and somehow a table for two had just opened up. One of those meant-to-be moments. I started with a martini, which was great, and I ordered the macadamia crusted halibut special with asparagus and mashed potatoes. The fish itself was really good. The potatoes needed a little help, though. I definitely wish I had asked for extra sauce and a little salt and pepper, but I did appreciate that they tasted homemade with those bigger chunks. We also got the French onion soup to start, and that was so good. It had little tips of filet in it, and honestly, that might have been my favorite part of the whole meal. My husband ordered the stuffed chicken, and this is where things kind of went sideways. The chicken was really dry, and then halfway through, he bit down on what looked like a cherry pit. Definitely not something you expect, and kind of a mood killer. We called the waiter over, and they were very apologetic, and the service the entire night really was great. But between the dry chicken and that surprise, we were kind of done at that point. We were planning on dessert, but just didn't even feel like it anymore. That said, we've been here before and have had really great meals, which is why I wouldn't write it off. The service was great, everything was clean, and it still has that nice, classic feel. Also, a side note, I used the restroom before we left, and I have to say, as a mom, seeing an actual changing station with drawers and supplies made me so happy. I remember those flimsy fold down tables and being nervous using them, so this felt like such a thoughtful touch. They even had a bidet, which I tried to check out, but it wasn't working. Helpful tip: Get the French onion soup, and if your dish comes with a sauce...ask for extra. Not a perfect night, but enough good here that we'd come back again.

There's no posted menu up front but there are plenty of handheld menus to pick up and glance at. It seems like they have a rotating menu, we came for lunch but they only serve breakfast on Sundays. I overheard our waitress talking to another customers about which days serves breakfast and lunch vs just breakfast. They also have other fluctuating things such as what kind of agua fesca, side salad, or fruit is available for the day. Although it would have been nice to know what the daily rotating items were before ordering we didn't feel like we were shorted or disappointed in the options we had. I also feel like I'm more intrigued to return on a day they serve lunch or other drink options! Chilaquiles had a lot of flavor but they didn't uphold the crunch of the chip very well. All eggs were served runny which I love but my partner isn't into. (Luckily for me I just got two eggs). Chicken sandwich was the best food item by far. The crunch of the chicken was amazing and overall it was cooked perfectly. The pepper on top was a great little spicy snack in between bites. The drinks were awesome. The horchata coffee was amazing, the sangria was so tasty, and the melon aqua Fresca was perfectly refreshing for our Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was clean and had a nice open space so It didn't feel too crowded. We already decided we would be back to try lunch options in the future.
