    Mini Taco Salad $13.99
    Sharlene H.

I recently visited Bert's Diner for the first time for dinner. It wasn't busy or chaotic. The diner has a classic 1950's style look which gives a fun and nostalgic vibe. We loved the jukebox/old school diner atmosphere. The menu is pretty generous and has a variety of foods from American to Mexican-American comfort foods. If you have a sweet tooth, they also have pies, milkshakes, ice cream from Gunther's and sundaes available! I ordered the mini taco salad and my daughter ordered Bert's burger. When the food came out, the portions were huge compared to other restaurants. It came out hot and satisfying. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. She came back a few times to make sure we were doing okay. Overall, we had a pleasant experience. The portions are generous and the pricing is reasonable. This makes it ideal for someone who wants something filling and affordable. We had to take our left overs home! I'd definitely recommend.

It's a consistent spot. Food is good not great. The staff is pleasant and helpful. My steak sandwich was delicious. The shakes are superb. The diner ambiance is fun. We came herewith some little people and we all had a great time. They were so entertained by the jukebox. Unfortunately our table side jukebox was busted. Would absolutely repeat in the same situation. We were here often many years ago. It was nice to rediscover this fun place.

HUGE servings, great diner ambiance and service. Would recommend if you're in the area for brunch but it's also worth a drive if you're looking for big breakfast plates.

This special lil hidden gem has been a delicious staple of American comfort diner food for many years. One of the best country fried steaks you could ever have. The gravy is perfect with lil bits of sausage. My main go to omelette is the Bert omelette. My moms loves the pork chops & they have different specials daily. If you're in the area at the right time treat your tastebuds to this flavorful delight.

Great diner that takes you back in time! Food is delish, service is fast and friendly and you will leave stuffed! Love the atmosphere as well, they still keep it very retro with the jukebox and you can still play songs from your table! They also have an outdoor patio as well. I was craving breakfast and splurged with the chicken fried steak breakfast with hash browns. Hubby had lunch and opted for the mushroom burger with fries. The chicken fried steak was epic, cooked perfect and huge! Hubby loved his mushroom burger and satisfied his craving for a good burger. I saw that they have some great specials on Fridays and Sundays so I will need to return soon!

Ordered their breakfast steak medium well but came overly done. Was told my our service that I have to deal with it. Very unsatisfactory service. Very Poor service. Was told.

The great breakfast hunt brought us to the eastern edge of Elk Grove the other day. Bert's Diner is such a fun place to hang out. It has a wonderful kitschy diner vibe complete with your own personal juke box on the tables. The space was spotless and there is plenty of parking. The menu has all of the breakfast staples along with some daily specials available. We opted for the eggs Benedict off the menu and the chile verde breakfast special. Both were more than generous in size and absolutely delicious!! $40 for breakfast for 2 is pretty normal in California, but Bert's made the pricing a little more palatable. The Benedict came with two very large slices of ham and a generous amount of hollandaise. Service was friendly and efficient. The food came out super fast and we noticed there were plenty of regulars in for their Bert's fix. Give them a try if you happen to be in the area.

    DELICIOUS NACHOS!

If you're craving some delicious nachos, you can't go wrong with Bert's Diner! Compliments to the chef! SO GOOD!!

Daily specials, Bert's "since 1987," the pass-through to the kitchen, and that retro red clock on the wall.

I can write an update for Bert's Diner in or near Elk Grove and keep it at 4 stars because now I can say I've had lunch here. I was driving down Grant Line Road, which serves as a hypotenuse between Elk Grove and Rancho Cordova, and was wanting to get a big platter with an omelette. They stop serving breakfast at 1:00 p.m. and I didn't know that. One could choose from burgers, sandwiches, and other types of platters. I chose Bert's Club sandwich, a double decker, with fries as well as a Coca-Cola products soft drink. The sandwich, together with a generous serving of fries, was very tasty, and even very filling, that I skipped dinner. Not much has changed here and it has been at least a decade since I was last here. The food is very good, the service has an informal friendliness about it, and the prices are fair and fit the context. Bert's sits in a small strip mall off Grant Line Road in Elk Grove that it shares with Fat Mike's Pizza. You wouldn't expect to be driving down this country road, even though there is some encroachment of newer subdivisions, and stumble onto this metallic art deco diner that's a throwback to "American Graffiti" or something similar! I would have never found it. The way I learned of Bert's is because a childhood friend who was Cuban - and still is - was living in the "Grove of Elk" (shortened to the "the Grove," and obviously the butt of a few jokes among us) and liked this place for that occasional bountiful breakfast. I went along and got a kick out of it. Not only that, he told me that his colorful Cuban parents, who lived near him for a while, also liked coming here to eat. His mother, whose collection of cats once reached 11, would refer to Bert's Diner as "Manuel's" because there evidently once was a Hispanic employee by that name with whom she was able to converse. But, then, what would you expect from a lady (rest her soul) who once had 11 cats and, en route to Bert's, would exclaim "Ay, las vacas de Elk Grove!" while surveying what was going on outside the car's windows? Most aspects of people's Memory Lane experiences exhibit a lot of change. On the other hand, Bert's Diner seems to remain a constant.

Much of the interior consists of plain, single-color walls without much décor, giving it a blank and somewhat incomplete feel. Service: Friendly but slow and somewhat disorganized. * At check-in, the host added my name (Lin) to the waitlist and said I would receive a text when my table was ready. However, the notification arrived under a different name (Nancy), so I had to double-check whether the table was actually for us. * Our server was pleasant, but service felt scattered. She stopped by to check on us, but before we could respond, she walked over to another table and continued a conversation there. When she returned, she said she would bring water, even though we were already ready to order. It took a while for the water to arrive. * Later, we requested a water refill, which she acknowledged, but it appeared to be forgotten. The refill only came when we were getting ready to leave, at which point she apologized. Although it was a Sunday brunch service, the restaurant did not seem busy enough to fully explain the level of disorganization. Food: Breakfast is available all day. I recommend the Eggs Benedict (weekends only), which comes in several varieties: A. Bacon, spinach, and tomato Benedict B. Traditional ham Benedict C. Cali Benedict with avocado, tomatoes, and arugula D. Smoked Salmon Benedict The Club Sandwich also comes with a generous portion size. A nice convenience is that the restaurant allows split bills, and guests can pay individually through the Toast app.

I asked for the check and 3 boxes for my leftovers then handed her $100 since she already had the check with her. I waited over 15 minutes. Saw the same waitress giving checks and to go boxes to nearby customers that were asked after me. Our waitress refused to make eye contact with us. It was extremely awkward for no apparent reason. After some time, I asked another worker for 3 to go boxes instead. She appeared confused. She asked if we already paid, I said yes - I'm waiting for my change and it's been over 15 minutes. She came back after dropping the boxes for me to verify my order ticket, left and came back to give me my $27 change. Her body language appeared flustered and irritated and said some smart comment under her breath. She did not apologize for her or her coworker's behavior/attitude nor acknowledged the $27 tip I gave her for $70 worth of food. That's over 35% worth of tip that was not deserved. Instead, she went to the back, which was directly behind my table to gossip and said very inappropriate comments about me to her coworkers! I was shocked and appalled from all the rude comments she said about me. My family (even my 14 year old daughter) overheard it and was also shocked from the unprofessionalism. This occurred on May 2, 2026. The waitress and the other worker are both young females in their late teens or early twenties. As an ongoing customer for many years, this has never once happened to me. Employees here were always so kind and sweet; but not today. I always supported small family owned business and as a military veteran myself, I always respected that they have family members that also served (pictures of service members posted on their wall). This will be my last time coming here. Those two employees need to be retrained or fired! What a way to ruin my experience with this establishment.

Plenty of parking, and the dining room was clean and inviting. Background music was at a comfortable level for conversation while at the same time giving the place a New Orleans feel. Shout out to Annabella who was working both as hostess and our server. She did an incredible job throughout our visit. Prices are in the upper teens for breakfast. I went with the Dixie Skillet and it was huge! I could have easily split it with someone, but instead I took the other half home for breakfast the next morning. Honestly, I think they could cut the portion back a third, drop the price down to $14, and it would still be a fair value. Here's a tip for families: if you have toddlers who are fine with a half-pancake and maybe some samplings of fruit, potato, or eggs off your plate, choose a side for your meal that they can have. Unlike Black Bear Diner's $5 kids meals, Huckleberry's misses the mark here by charging over $7. Not needing a full breakfast for our granddaughter, we thought ordering just a single piece of French toast was a cheaper alternative, but were charged $6.49 for just that! Not exactly young family wallet friendly. No star deduction for that; just be aware. Bottom line... Come hungry and enjoy!

Greeted at the door and sat immediately, our server came over and took our drink order; at this point we were off to a great start but that's where service stalled. Our server dropped off drinks and took our food order: chicken and waffle stack and a Monté Cristo sandwich with fries. Our food gets dropped off fairly quickly (by food runners). My wife is very simple and doesn't complain about much so I could not assess her meal, but the Monté Cristo was a disappointment, the sandwich was oily which I expected if it was deep fried but it was just oozing clarified butter and the powdered sugar was an afterthought or only for looks. Even the powdered sugar couldn't hide the amount of oil leaking from the bread. The side of French fries were cold and soggy, so I decided to pack them up and refry them at home since I knew my wife would only eat half her meal. And the only time we saw our server after she took our order was when she brought our check and returned our CC. Not sure if we'll return anytime soon...
