This place is definitely one of my go-to places for lunch. It is very reasonable and quick. I love the chicken and asparagus! Don't be surprised when the fried rice (that comes with the dish) does not resemble the traditional fried rice but it is very tasty. The lunch specials come with the main dish, fried rice, egg roll, and a fried wonton. For what you pay, it is a great deal. You can order steamed brown rice for an additional $0.50. Nice little dive. Meal is always hot and fresh, but rice is bland. They really need to lower their thermostat because E got really hot in there which lowered our enjoyment of the meal. I hate to be hot. But we order to go and it works out for ya. They don't take long to prepare the order, but plan on waiting 15 minutes or so. We've tried several entrees and enjoyed all of them, but no one in my family is a fan of the rice. It's not bad, it's just very bland. If you like bland rice, you'll love theirs. read more

I used to eat here weekly when I worked in Richardson. The Sweet and Sour chicken is the only thing I ever ordered there and it was good. Simply walk up to the counter, pick an item off the menu, and they'll call out your order when its ready. Most dishes come with your choice of rice and an egg roll. At dinner it is a little more expensive and I believe comes with soup. (I only ate dinner there once.) The portions are generous and the price is very reasonable. Keep in mind this is more of a fast food style chinese restaurant, a dive if you will, and not a gourmet place like Pei Wei or PF Changs. read more

Vegetable fried rice is my go to at places like Oriental Express. Seems rather authentic and super tasty. Only downside is the certain non proportionate vegetables. For example there are tons of onions, so if you ditch the onions it is missing a lot. However if you leave them, it is overwhelming. Screw onions! Ayy lmao. read more

Been coming here for almost 20 years. As a kid me and my mom and sister would meet my dad on his lunch break there. I moved to SC for 7 years and every visit back to Texas I make sure to stop by for dinner. Of course now that I live here I make it all the way over from time to time. I have been coming here since the 90's, and they are my all time favorite Chinese food place. There are so many things to rave about: Their reasonable prices, their generous portions, and the dishes that are my faves. I can not find anything, anywhere else that comes close in taste or quality. Their Sweet and Sour Chicken is actually fried chicken breast chunks cooked in an actual sweet and sour sauce, that is mind blowing. Not chicken chunks served with a side of clear-yet-purple, and cheaply made, sweet and sour sauce. Very unique! My favorite dish is the Spicy Fried Chicken, which boasts of fried chicken breast chunks, cook into an amazing sauce, both sweet and hot, with carrots, peas, and mushrooms! Such flavor!! Literally, my second favorite meal of my entire life!!! Their wonderful sauces that their dishes are cooked in, separates them from all others. So unique and different!!! First, to manage some expectations: Oriental Express is not fancy. Get past that and you'll enjoy some of the best tasting Chinese food in the Dallas area. I mean, just look at most of the reviews here. That's for a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in a strip center... they've got to be doing something right. And prices are extremely reasonable because they cater to the local business lunch crowd. I've been eating at this family-owned restaurant since 1988 and I still recognize most of the family members who work there. I've had "American Chinese" food in San Francisco, New York, Houston, and Chicago, so I have a pretty broad idea of what good Chinese is. Sure, I eat at much "nicer" places, but I never enjoy the food as much as I do at Oriental Express. Try the broccoli beef, the cashew chicken, and don't miss their egg rolls--second best I've ever had! One earlier reviewer called out the egg rolls in a negative way, saying they were "obviously frozen." Well, I don't personally know the family that runs Oriental Express, but I've been in there after the lunch rush many times and watched the family sitting together, making their egg rolls by hand. I'm not trying to invalidate other reviewer's likes or dislikes, but my experience with this food and this business has been superb. read more

The quality of the food is great and its a heck of a deal. My husband and I stopped here a few days ago to order carry-out. Despite the strip mall outside, the dining room inside is very nice and my son enjoyed the huge koi in a fishtank. I would definitely consider dining inside on a future trip. Lunch specials are Mon-Sat from 11:30am-4pm and range from $5.20 to $5.95 in price. Specials include fried rice, egg roll, and a wonton (fried wrapper only, no meat). Brown rice is an extra $.50, steamed rice is an option. Dinner specials are from 4:30pm to 9:30pm, range from $5.95 to $6.95 in price, and have the same go-withs as the lunch specials. Entree options range from fried rice/lo mein options at $5.50 to standard entrees at $7.50 to seafood entrees at $8.50. They don't have delivery. I ordered sweet-and-sour pork, which I like to judge new Chinese restaurants by, and my husband ordered orange chicken, his favorite of the moment. I also ordered an egg drop soup. The food was done before I got through more than a section of the newspaper and we headed home. My sweet-and-sour pork was excellent. The breaded fried pork pieces were juicy and well-coated in sauce. The side vegetables were cooked but firm (as opposed to the raw veggies some places pass off on you). The portion was sized perfectly for a normal appetite. Everything else was good and not greasy at all. The fried rice was well-seasoned and not dried out. The egg roll was a tiny meat spring roll, which is my favorite type. The wonton was excellent for just being a large triangle of fried dough. They included a couple of tiny cups of delicious sweet-and-sour sauce for the appetizers. To my delight, the sauce is on the gelatinous (which I prefer) side as opposed to the annoyingly runny and dripping-all-over kind. My only disappointment was the egg drop soup. It had some Chinese vegetables in it (I don't like crunch in my egg drop soup) and the flavor was bland. However I do see sizzling rice soup on the menu, which I heartily miss from a Chinese restaurant I went to as a kid. I'll try that next time. My husband forgot to share some of his orange chicken with me, but he says it wasn't too sweet nor too spicy (most Dallas Chinese places make it either sickeningly sweet or burning mouth spicy). He was disappointed that the chicken was not breaded, which he prefers. However that may be a plus for others. He says he'd order it again, but wants to try some other dishes next time. This is my first review ever, but the food was just so bad that I had to write one. I ordered delivery and I got the sesame chicken (with lo mein as my side instead of rice) and the egg drop soup. The egg drop soup was more white than the typical yellowish color, it had peas and carrots and some weird long clear somethings in it? I have no idea what that was. They forgot to put the crispy won ton strips in the bag for the soup. The soup did not have any taste to it at all, it was just warm - so at least there was that. The lo mein was super dry and super bland. And lastly, the sesame chicken was also so very bland. It did have a sweetness to it, which was okay, but the breading was mushy and the chicken was rubbery. I doused everything in soy sauce to try and save it, but it didn't do the trick. I have to be honest, this was the worst Chinese food I've ever had. However, my roommate had the Kung Pao chicken and that was okay. SO maybe it was the items I ordered, but the items I ordered are very standard, so I'm gonna have to say it's a "no" for me. read more

Moo Shu pork, egg rolls, and crab wontons were pretty good, but the egg drop soup was definitely watered down, had ZERO flavor, and even the color was off as if they poured water in it to stretch it out? This hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant cooks good, affordable food with quality meats and sauces. The dining area is big and open, with tons of tables. I tried the spicy fried chicken tonight, which was tasty but not spicy at all. The Sriracha on the tables in the restaurant would have taken care of that, but I got my food for take-out. Each main dish includes fried rice, an egg roll and a wonton. The fried rice had very good flavor, despite not containing any vegetables, meat, or other bits. My egg roll was packed a bit sparsely and had no real flavor beyond the oil of the fried shell. The wonton was overwhelmingly normal. This restaurant gets four stars from me, instead of three, because the quality of the meat is better than any other Chinese take-out restaurant I've visited. The chicken was wholesome white meat and had a nice grain, rather than being mush like at so many other places. Each main dish is within a dollar or two of $6. read more
