I have to admit I'm not big on buffets. I never really seem to do them justice and sometimes the food options aren't that great. I was pleasantly surprised when I gave this place a try. They do still have Covid restrictions in place which means you tell them what items you'd like and they plate it up for you. They have a lot to choose from and everything seems really fresh. There's a real lack of Chinese food options in Humboldt so this is now our go to place. The orange chicken, green beans, broccoli beef are all good but really didn't care for the chow mein or fried rice. They weren't bad, just lacked flavor in my opinion. read more

We Love "OB!" and have been coming here since we still had kids in the house, so around a dozen years or more. It's only gotten better. The restaurant is kept very clean, the buffet is always filled, the wide selection of hot entrees that are hot, and the cold bar filled with fresh fruits, salad, veg, and sweets is also properly cold. The kids (they were not little kids, either) always liked the frozen yogurt machine of course. The employees are friendly and efficient. When we order-take away our order is always very hot and 100% accurate. Sure it might not be the best Asian-Chinese food on the planet, but it's delicious and properly prepared with fresh ingredients and tastes great. The price is right, too! We particularly like the soups and the starters. If you leave hungry it's your own fault! My only question is can't they find some of their staff to work it on Christmas day? This was our GO-TO every Christmas night for several years. Understandably the pandemic played a roll in closing this place down for a while, along with all the rest, but now that things have gotten back to 'normal' or as 'normal' as they can get, can you folks please consider opening up again on Christmas? Take New Year's Day off instead. This was the first time I've been back to this place since Covid. Honestly I was very impressed. They all follow Covid regulations by wearing a mask and wearing gloves and switching gloves in between orders and by keeping a plastic guard up from customers and food. The order line is set up so you order as you move down the line. They have a good variety of Chicken, vegetarian, and seafood options. The price is by pound which is pretty fair. Tonight I got the orange chicken (sesame chicken), hot and spicy chicken, eggplant sautéed in garlic sauce, chowmein and egg rolls. All good was appropriate temperature when I got home and all was super tasty. The service is amazing. The ladies are so nice and do t try to rush you. Overall it was a super experience. read more

The flavor is on par with some of the best Chinese restaurants in San Gabriel Valley in the LA area. They also give you huge portions! This is the only Chinese buffet in town. The food used to be better; they used to make their own vegetable egg rolls. Recently, they stopped serving egg foo young for lunch. Did it really cost that much to make egg foo young??? I don't eat here as often as I used to because they replaced Egg Foo Young with eggplant. The only one thing that bother me is some unruly customers, especially a couple of amigos who used to come on Sunday evenings and like to empty out all the shellfish in the tray. It's cheap. $30 for two seniors. You can eat a whole lot of food here, and it seems to always be fresh and hot. You could fill your whole meal with just the appetizer table. But then you'd miss out on the Clams, Oysters, Muscles ..... Careful with the Oysters though. I got a mouth full of sand on one. Just sayin'. The standard Chinese offerings are very good, but they do not offer General Tso's Chicken. Also the fried rice has peas in it. Why does fried rice always have to have peas? Oh, and they have Sushi. That's a major plus. They really, really, really need to get some General Tso's Chicken going. The restaurant is very clean and well maintained. The staff does not seem to speak English, though they certainly understand it. They may seem to be a bit rude, but I think that's a cultural thing. I've experienced the same thing at restaurants in China Town (San Francisco). There are several bad reviews about this place. I love this place. You can eat in, take out, or have food delivered. I always eat too much because the food is so good. The staff treats you like family and lets you know they are glad you are there. If you don't see something at the buffet you want, they will make what you want. The prices are reasonable and I always get my moneys worth. The place is just wonderful. Better than great food for the price! Service was great, too. Only concern is how crowded it gets, and with the quality of patrons. I totally understand it's Humboldt, and I don't judge, but I did lose my appetite at the smell of the guys at the table next to us. Not sure if I'll be back, but far above average for buffet. I get dragged here by my Husband more often than I'd like. It's your basic oriental buffet, some pretty gross stuff but stuff that doesn't taste half off if you can stomach the taste of cheap food, which really isn't easy for me to do, so usually the experience isn't very enjoyable. I would stay far, far away from the "sushi". Nothing here is fresh, it's all from a box, but the "sushi" is the worst. It tastes like what I would picture gas station sushi tasting like, and just the thought makes my stomach turn. If I had to choose between this place and the one in Eureka I would go with this one for sure though, that should tell you something about the one in Eureka. read more

There's about two things that are actually decent on the buffet, and the service is about what you'd expect. But that's not what I'm writing about today. Today, I came in, got my food, and sat down. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed a guy with most of his hand in his mouth. It looked like he was trying to pick something out of his teeth. Immediately after he picked up a serving spoon and started scooping chicken onto his plate. I caught the attention of a waitress and told her what happened. She went and told a manager and a few other employees, and they all just looked confused. Like they had never dealt with this before. They ended up removing the food and the spoon that he touched, but it just kinda makes you wonder. What other things like this happen that go unnoticed or are just ignored because customers didn't see it? How hard is it to have employees watching out for this kind of thing? Also a waitress started yelling at an elderly man for trying to order a beer. Probably won't be coming back. read more

I usually wouldn't give a one-star review, but this is probably one of the worst places I've ever eaten, in terms of both food and service. We were on a road trip and this was one of only a few places available to eat around our hotel. When I entered I was pretty happy to see there was a variety of vegetarian options. When I tasted the food, it was cold, salty, oily, and almost stale. Almost everything I tried seemed like it came frozen from Costco and was sitting out for a couple of hours. My mom ate almost nothing on her two plates of food since it was so tasteless and bland. I was excited about the Mongolian BBQ, but that was also made very sloppy and tasteless. The service was just as bad. The waitresses we had were very rude. My dad accidentally spilled his glass of water and the waitress threw a towel on the table for us to clean it up. The lady frying the Mongolian BBQ seemed like she didn't want anyone to talk to her. I think the price of the dinner buffet is pretty steep considering the food and service are awful. I would not recommend this place. We regretted not just getting fast food instead. read more

I should've just gone by the rating but I decided to try it anyway as Chinese food sounded good, and you never know sometimes there's a diamond in the rough. If you just want to eat lots of food and don't care about quality or flavor, this is your place. After a 3 hour drive with no breakfast this place hit the spot! My husband and I followed the signs off the freeway and were very pleased. The restrooms were nice and clean, there were so many selections to choose from and it beat our local favorite Chinese buffet place. Buffet is conveniently located by a couple of hotels and have to say that it is pretty good. Of course you get what you pay for and the sushi that they offer are not of the highest quality, but else it is very good and didn't have one item that I tried that was disgusting. They have a variety of fried items (fish, chicken, squash, spring rolls etc.), fried rice, lo mein noodles, veggies (bowl choy, green beans, sprouts- all of which tasted fresh), various chicken dishes (Peking chicken, sesame chicken, sweet and sour, satay...), beef (likes the Mongolian beef- broccoli beef is a bit more bland but still good), seafood (shrimp, variety of fried shrimp -coconut, butterfly, with shell- clams, oysters, baked mussels, steamed fish,...), the dumplings are super delish which you can add to the different soups... my dessert favorites were the Chinese donuts and taro buns (omg!!! Seriously best ones I've had and I have purchased them multiple times in SF and Oakland China town). They have a great sushi chef and a Mongolian grill bar and many many other great items all fresh and delicious for an awesome price. Best buffet around! My family and I come here to eat on some occasions and have enjoyed every visit. Their service is great! Super friendly and kind! They will come to assist and check up on you when needed. With the current covid conditions, we aren't able to eat inside but my family and I did order for takeout to enjoy at home.
