Giving this restaurant 1 star, and this is why: I am currently pregnant and I have a 2 year old that I had in my car that fell asleep as I was running errands. I was craving chow mein and this restaurant was the nearest at the time. They only had pick up option on Yelp but I have called other restaurants I have gone to and explained that my toddler was sleeping in the car and if they could place food in my trunk for me for that reason so I wont have to wake him up and all restaurants have always been nice and accommodated so I assumed they would as well because it's not that hard to do this for a paying client. I called and asked this of the restaurant and they said they couldn't do that and I was desperate because I was hungry and pregnant and didn't want to have to carry my sleepy toddler in the restaurant since I'm pregnant and have had multiple miscarriages so I avoid carrying him but since he was sleeping I couldn't just make him walk straight out of waking up (I mean poor guy) and when they denied they could do that, I asked to speak to a manager to see if they could make an exception and no, same answer and stated I could cancel order if I can't go in restaurant to pick up. I was super disappointed but by this point of pregnancy hunger and the app wouldn't let me cancel I decided to wait for order. By the time it was ready my toddler hadn't woken up so I had to wake up the poor guy and carry him on top of my 4 month belly (which is more like a 6 month size compared to other women) into the restaurant, when I walked in I saw 2 employees that looked like either owner/manager or both and they were both just sitting there doing NOTHING and they definitely didn't look too busy to walk out and place order in trunk. I was super upset when I saw this, it took almost no effort to take a few steps for them to take to my car to give good customer service to a pregnant mom of a toddler sleeping in the car. Also, CHOW MEIN WAS REALLY BAD, and shrimp in chow mein were even worse! They seemed old and very GREASY and so did the chow mein! The soup was also HORRIBLE according to my husband because visually I couldn't even get myself to try it. I frequent this restaurant often and I am always pleased with the service. Today, however, I am not satisfied! I had to wait an HOUR to eat my food. The waiter, took over 20 minutes and serviced 4 tables before even checking in on me. I came before lunch was over @ 2:25pm. It is now 3:49, I have been done eating for 25 minutes and after the waiter still hasn't brought the check. Mind you, I am eating alone, I should be in and out. Once he finally brings me the check I place the card down immediately because that's how long I was waiting! The waiters name was Komang, after this experience I will now only be ordering out! This restaurant was at one time one of my favorite restaurants to eat at. I love that they still do their own personal carry out but the quality of the food has deteriorated a lot. Yesterday I ordered Szechuan shrimp and the amount of bread that was on that shrimp was just horrible. Also, they left out something from my order which has happened before. I guess you could avoid ordering anything that has batter and perhaps it would be better, but I just hate to see the quality of such a fine restaurant deteriorate. I decided to meet a friend for lunch and it was the best decision. Upon entering you'll either be seated in the cabin of the train or in the actual restaurant space near the hibachi grills. The service was quick and friendly. Our food was fresh and tasty and the price was unbelievably reasonable. Don't expect OE's Chinese dishes to be made from the scratch. However, they do taste good occasionally. I'm a sucker for their General Tso's chicken and Thai Coconut Curry Chicken. We visited Orient Express yesterday to celebrate a birthday. We were a party of 8. We were greeted by the manager, Jason, who made every possible effort not to make us feel at ease. Just in case I got his name wrong, he was a very tall man with a blue patterned shirt. We felt unwelcome and possibly a burden on the place even though we have booked our table a week ahead. From the demeaning tone to rolling eyes every time we asked a question, Jason seriously made our visit extremely uncomfortable. We were not the only table who felt offended by Jason's tone. We saw other tables complaining and voices raised. We were quiet surprised how a this place with such a beautiful decor and great food could have a manager with such attitude that completely ruined our experience. They have totally transformed this train, but you. An atill tell its a train on the inside. They have a building that is added yo create a more open dining area. We visited the orient express on a Friday for lunch. We were seated promptly seated and given menus and drinks. I really enjoyed the experience of getting in a train to enter the restaurant ! There is a hibachi side and a sushi side we sat on the sushi side I'm assuming because there was no hibachi tables. I ordered the yellowtail because I wanted to try something new and it was good but a little too thick for my liking. I'm still attempting to explore the world of raw sushi so I am not well versed on the concept. I also ordered the shrimp lo mein wow I was extremely pleased! The lunch options come with a spring roll, soup or salad and fried rice which was way more food than I expected! Which I think was a great value for the price. Both very reasonably sized for the potions and very yummy. I'm picky about spring rolls but this one met my standards. Super crunchy but not oily, and filled with crisp cabbage and veggies. Mmmm. Then we ordered a couple of special sushi rolls - the mega roll and the candle roll (at least I think that's what they were called. It was written on the chalkboard.) Both were great! The fish they use is so fresh. And a decent amount of meat too. We were surprised at how big both of these rolls were, esp since it wasn't filled with abundant amount of crunch or rice. We also got the chicken and beef fried rice. The steak they use and how they cook it is really good. But I didn't care much for the actual rice. It was kind of oily and reminded me more of Chinese food in the mall. Still not terrible and the meat quality and portions were good. The soup was very good. I did not eat the salad as I am not a salad lover. The cook was pleasant and did a couple tricks on the grill. I've passed this place one million times and I've never stopped. Well I had time today. I ordered shrimp friend rice and sweet and sour chicken. Both items were bad. The waiter offered for me to select another item from the menu. The Chinese manager came back and refused to serve me another dish because he said I would not be happy with that. He then said he'd bill me for the soup and egg rolls which came to 9.00, of which I did not pay because it came with the lunch entree of which was cold and nasty. The ambiance is gorgeous though. I tried their sushi rolls for the first time as an appetizer and they were really good. Forgot what they were called but they included smoked salmon, shrimp, cucumber, avocado, etc. My date and I got the Hibachi combination. I ordered the steamed rice with salmon and steak. I added shrimp also. Make sure you order the filet mignon for a more premium meat. There is a big difference. I forgot to say filet mignon and got steak. I tried my dates filet mignon, and it was way better than mine. Lol Both were good, but for the best taste, filet mignon for sure. My date got the filet mignon with shrimp. He really loves hibachi and thought this place was amazing. For drinks, the lemon drop was really good. Too sweet for my taste but my best friend loves to order it when she visits. I prefer the pomegranate martini. I don't usually drink red wine but I also had a really great tasting red wine that I may consider drinking now. I believe it was Robert Mondvi Pinot Noir. Patronized the establishment to celebrate my birthday today. We had a party of 11. I opted to do the hibachi side of the restaurant. We were seated immediately once our party arrived. Drinks arrived quickly. We placed our orders but unfortunately due to the size of the party, four people were assigned a different cook and had other people sitting on their side of the table (not a problem initially), but their food was cooked and finished before ours. I asked our cook prior to starting if he knew any tricks or did anything special for birthdays. Unfortunately, he said no, and that's ok but it would have added a little razzle dazzle to our dinner. By the time our food was finished the other side of the table was done eating, so they waited awkwardly for us to finish. Towards the end of our dinner the staff brought over two signs that said reserved and at them on the tables. Initially this wasn't an issue, but it started to feel quite rushed. We had not even been seated for an hour and our tab was $500, so they could have had a little bit more patience. Amongst the party we ordered a variety from the hibachi chicken, shrimp and vegetable option. My family surprised me with cake, in which I did cut in the restaurant and served to all who wanted some. We sat and talked and ate cake but the staff became more blatant with the fact they were rushing us out of the restaurant. I got takeout in the time of COVID-19. They are situated just across the street from my office and I had a long lunch and went in to order takeout. I love the setup and layout of the place---quirky, distinguished, and neotraditional. They are well meshed into their environment, and the food is amazing. Per several patients, the sushi here is amazing and I must return to sample it. The shrimp fried rice was good and the eggrolls are some of the best I've had. They are only takeout orders or delivery right now, but it is worth it. They have an extensive menu with a lot of good food options. This restaurant offers a mix of Asian cuisines, but in my opinion their sushi and Chinese are the best dishes on the menu. So here are the pros and cons of my experience. As a large group of women giddy to celebrate, I appreciate the space for us to laugh and move about to take pictures without interruption or intrusions. The the restaurant and bathrooms are clean, and the outside is tidy and decorative. The food...I ordered the Bubba Gump roll without the cream cheese. I'm glad I chose this one. It was delicious! Also huge and filling. You can order this as your meal and be content. You are able to bring in an outside cake...they will allow you to use plastic ware for your own cakes. Cons: parking is tight. I mean really tight, so be prepared to search and walk. I found a small space between an ill parked car, and an suv (driver of the suv was parking and made enough room for me). There is parking in the back and I saw some people parking next door. Service was a little strange, as I wasn't given a menu as I arrived. Instead I was asked to share with my neighbor, as she had already ordered. Then the waiter took my drink order and didn't return until he delivered the hors d'oeuvres were served to the rest of the table. I had to order mine then...30 mins after arriving. Although reservations were made in advance it seemed like they weren't prepared for a large party. It wasn't horrible service, but he wasn't as attentive as I'd like, especially when a 20% gratuity fee is automatically charged. No music playing. Being a large met group I noticed the tables around us paying attention to our conversations as we were spread out and thus had to speak louder to communicate. A little music overhead might have helped drown the sound of other's conversations. The second dish I ordered was the Spicy Basil Chicken and aside from the chilli sauce there was very little flavor. While I enjoyed my sushi roll, I don't think their Thai is as good as their sushi or Chinese. I ordered the shrimp fried rice to go and it was a hit with my family.
