Recently discovered this place for a friend's birthday -- one of her favorite places! The setting is pretty cool, with part of the walkway between the bar/hibachi area to main dining room being an old railway car -- something you see predominantly as you are walking into the restaurant. There were a few cocktail options (some a bit more pricey than I was anticipating - ie: espresso martini for $18), so I stuck with prosecco which was served in a miniature bottle and poured for me. The server was patient and kind - surprisingly splitting the bill from the get go with a larger group of 8 people! I got the ginger salad and fried spring rolls as a starter. Ginger salad was standard -- iceberg lettuce with carrots, topped with a zangy ginger dressing. The spring rolls were tasty, namely that they were crispy and went well with a sweet sauce as well as a VERY spicy mustard sauce. I got the Mongolian beef entree which came with rice. Wow -- the meat was so tender, great flavor (a bit sweet though -- tempered with spicy mustard I saved) and a huge portion. It was a great value for the price and was several additional meals for me once I took it home. This dish was also just a great comfort food. Their menu offers Chinese, Thai cuisines, hibachi (in front of a hibachi grill), and sushi -- appealing to many when someone may be wanting Asian food within that cohort of options! SEE VIDEO I ordered the lunch portion of Hibachi Chicken to go. I've never really had a problem with the food here. Anyway, there was some weird sticky glue like substance all over the rice. This was not yum yum sauce because I didn't have any. Well I had dumped the overcooked charred veggies and chicken on top of it and now all of it got contaminated. I had a few bites before I paid attention and now my mouth feels weird. I called and they offered me $5 whole dollars for the rice even though I threw it all out. I don't need the $5 but they should have replaced it completely. I can certainly buy another lunch but service is lacking these days. $26 dollars for lunch down the drain. What a fun evening! Came with a small group. This is a unique restaurant with 3 dining options in 1. The "Orient Express" is an old classic dining railroad cart and it is incorporated into a huge restaurant. As you enter to the left is an area where Chinese food is served. Straight ahead is a beautiful area for sushi/sashimi. Then if you walk down the railroad cart to the right is a habatchi restaurant. We sat here and had a fun tableside dining experience where a chef cooked steak, lobster, shrimp, scallops, and veggies in front of us. The chef put on a great show and interacted well with the group. Fresh high end ingredients were used and the food was delicious. The food was over cooked and soaked in butter. The chicken breast was hard as a rock and soaked in terriak sauce until it looked black. The ginger they put on the salad was rubbery so it couldn't have been fresh. The chef was nice and friendly but, his cooking is questionable. Came here for a birthday dinner and we had a very nice time. You walk up to the building and it indeed looks like a train in the front which is so cool. Parking in kind of a pain but once you're inside it's a vibe. There's a hallway that is very much like an old train, super cute area to have cocktails. To the left is more of a sit down family style. To the right is more bar. And then all the way down is hibachi. I've done sushi before at the bar which was fine. Habachi was a nice time. The food is always what's to be expected. Service was good and it went by very quickly. They only take reservations for hibachi for 6+ so otherwise it's walk in. On a Saturday at 7 we were seated right away. The restaurant is split into two sections (divided by walls and bathroom hallway): hibachi and sushi/chinese menu. We sat in the sushi/chinese menu side. The service was a bit slow as it looked like only a couple of servers for the entire restaurant; which meant they were going back and forth down the hallway to different tables. That being said, our server was still extremely nice and proactive. He immediately asked if there were any allergies at our table (which we did have). Most places aren't proactive, so we appreciated that a lot. The food portions were nice and everything was delicious. This review is for my second visit. My first visit was fine and my sushi was decent. The only reason I went back though was for a friend's birthday dinner. I do acknowledge that it was a busy Saturday night, but the service was just not good. There were 5 of us and we all asked for water, but we only received 4. The next time the waiter came by we asked him for one more. He disappears and comes back with...soy sauce bowls for sushi. We did eventually get the 5th water. Two of us ordered sushi and the rest Chinese. Well the sushi came out a good 10+ minutes before the other dishes. And then one dish came out another 10+ minutes after the other Chinese dishes. When we asked the waiter, he said the kitchen was working on it and it would just be 5 minutes. My sushi rolls were yummy but nothing special. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food and had leftovers. At the end of the meal, he drops off one check (without asking) and disappears again - even if we didn't want it split, we still would've wanted to pay! After waiting a good while, we asked a waiter walking by if he could find our waiter for us, and we got a curt "he's on his way." He finally comes back and we ask if the bill can be split, and he got 3 of the 4 receipts wrong... We also had to ask if he could take some of the used plates to make more space on the table. Our chef accommodated my fiancé's meat intolerance by cooking the seafood items first so that there wouldn't be any cross contamination. FOOD: 4/5 I ordered the filet and shrimp combo. It came with ginger salad, which was decent. The dressing tasted very carroty and lighter on the ginger. I prefer a little stronger ginger taste, but the salad was fresh and good over all. The clear broth mushroom soup was decent as well. There was a flavor in it I can't quite place, but it was a nice start to my meal. The fried rice was very yummy, especially with the white and brown sauces I drizzled on top. The vegetables were perfect--a nice crunch and clean taste. My shrimp was pretty good as well. I loved being able to taste the grill. There was a slight fishiness to it but it was still good. I preferred the filet, if I had to choose just one. While it wasn't quite as tender and flavorful as the filet at my favorite Japanese steakhouse back "home" where I'm from, it was still tasty. I came here with a group of coworkers recently and we had a positive experience. We reserved a hibachi table in advance. Be aware that you have to make sure every member of your party is present before you can be seated if you make a reservation. Also the parking is convenient but the spaces are a bit tight. If you have an oversized vehicle it might be better to park across the street. The food was good! I was happy with the chicken and steak combo that I ordered. My friend pointed out to me that the cook used a lot of butter and you could tell a little bit in fried rice, but still not bad. Didn't affect it negatively much. I love yum-yum sauce and I wasn't that crazy about the yum-yum sauce here - it seemed a little bit watered down. Still not bad though. Our hibachi chef was friendly and did a good job engaging with us. When the last member of our party showed up we were seated promptly. The prices seemed reasonable. It was a little warm in the restaurant and sitting by the grill made it a bit hot. I was sweating some but it wasn't anything too crazy. The inside and outside both look lovely. The train car is very cool and the koi pond. I'd love to come back sometime. read more

Been going here for many years. Always been a bit more expensive, but the train atmosphere the quality of the food and the service has been worth it. Now....$48 for a fillet hibachi meal +$4 for fried rice was hard to believe. The food quality was not what it used to be. The final straw, when the bill came it had a big red stamp saying bills over $85 will automatically have 18% service fee added. So what? Nothing indicating that until the bill came. Ive worked in Vinings for half a decade, and Orient Express has consistently been in the whole office's lunch rotation from the beginning. The set up is unique, as you walk in like you're boarding a train, and then pick which dining cab you'll sit in for the trip. Their lunch menu is delicious, affordable, and will leave you with leftovers. If you're wanting sushi or hibachi, both are great options. First visit and were celebrating a friend's birthday. This restaurant is like three-in-one, with an extensive menu of Chinese, Sushi bar, Hibachi Steak grill and recently added Thai cuisine. Parking onsite and you enter through an old railroad dining car, then into one of several dining areas depending on which cuisine you're looking for. The dècor is very nice, and the service was good. The staff were friendly and engaging. NOTE: Parties of five or more receive an automatic 20% gratuity added to their bill. DRINKS: Full bar. We tried an Old Fashioned ($14), which had a Maraschino cherry instead of a Luxardo cherry, and a Madres ($10), which is vodka, cranberry, and orange juice. We also tried a bottle (375 ml) of the Nigori Sake ($16) served cold. Both of the cocktails were tasty, and I really enjoyed the chilled sake. My mom had a Hot Tea ($3), which came with several selections of tea bags. FOOD: We started with the Spicy Tuna Jalapeño Popper ($12) appetizer which was very good, and not too spicy. We also shared a couple of orders of Egg Spring Rolls (2 for $4). For our entrèes, we tried a Dragon Roll ($15), and a Lobster Roll ($24). We also ordered a General Tso's Chicken ($18), and two Bento Boxes, one with Teriyaki Beef ($28) and the other with Salmon ($28). Everything was quite tasty, and the portions were plenty big. My family & I have been coming here for over 30 years but NEVER AGAIN. I placed an order that was over $100 on Seamless & was unable to add a side of white rice - the only thing my sick son wanted to eat. I called the restaurant & asked to add the rice to my order for an extra charge. The 1st lady said she couldn't do that. I asked to speak to someone else who also confirmed they would not be able to add the rice for free or if we paid for it. I honestly couldn't believe it & thought there must be a communication issue. I asked to speak to the general manager who was beyond rude & insisted it was indeed impossible & kept stating "I am happy to cancel your order!". We just moved back to Atlanta from Manhattan & are shocked by how poorly this business is run - it would not last a week in NYC treating New Yorkers this way. My leftovers are another meal in itself. Clean restaurant, though I've never used their restrooms. The only thing I don't like is the parking. The lot is very tight. After multiple recommendations I finally ordered takeout here last night- I ended up ordering the chicken hibachi dinner, which came with teriyaki chicken, veggies, rice (I asked for fried which was a $5 upcharge), clear soup, and a side salad. Their website said this would be $25 however, I paid $40. Was it worth it? No. Additionally, I asked for an extra yum yum sauce to be told it was a dollar and change, which feels ridiculous. Overall was disappointed in the food and pricing. It just wasn't that great and pretty mid. Honestly wasn't even what I would expect for a typical hibachi place either. We stopped in right at opening on a Thursday evening and had the bar mostly to ourselves for pre-dinner drinks. I tried a couple of the spirit-forward options, the No Vacancy and the Commuter, while my wife enjoyed a Sidecar variation. The bartender even customized one of the mezcal drinks with gin to suit her taste, which was perfect. Every cocktail we had was well-balanced, thoughtfully made, and fairly priced. I've noticed as soon as we received our food, here comes the waiter with the to - go boxes. As I observed around the area, the white folks that recieved their food, the waiter's treated them differently, this also happened 2 months prior at the same restaurant. What that told me is that Blacks are really not wanted there, they will take your money, but as soon as you get your food, the really want Blacks OUT !
