Orchid Thai Cuisine is a cute little Thai restaurant on Park Ave. in Winter Park. I visited for the very first time this past weekend for an early lunch, and I was pleasantly surprised. To start, the weather was lovely, so of course, outdoor seating was a must. It is a smaller locale, so there is limited seating outdoors and indoors. However, since this was one of the less-busy locations, we had more than enough seating to choose from, so we had ZERO wait time. Secondly, the staff was so kind and very attentive. Service was prompt. The food was also pretty tasty. We opted for their glass noodle dish and added shrimp for our protein. It was good. We also paired that dish with their shrimp wonton rolls, and wow, oh wow! Those rolls were a DELIGHT! They were the highlight of the lunch in my opinion. I absolutely loved the dish I ordered as well as having the option to customize spice level. I ordered this "hot" & it was the perfect level of heat for me. The overall taste of the curry was amazing, probably one of the best combinations of spices I have yet to try. I would definitely order this same exact curry thing the next time I go. I really enjoy coming here for lunch, always on a weekday. The staff are always really accommodating and attentive and They usually can seat our large group quickly. I find the flavors and food quality outstanding and really enjoy the red curry particularly. The only reason I didn't rank it five stars is because even though we're always seated for lunch (I've never been here for dinner), we always seem to have to request the lunch menu. We arrived around 6 PM on Tuesday night and were able to be seated right away. The menu offers your typical Thai Classics and we found the food to be very delicious. My friend got the pad Thai And said it was great. I opted for the green curry with chicken. The curry was a little thinner than I'm used to but overall the flavor was absolutely fantastic. The portion was pretty big so I actually was able to bring some home for lunch the next day. Our server was super polite and very nice . Because this is right off of the main road in Winter Park- parking can be a challenge. Thankfully, there's a parking garage That's just down the street off Canton, which makes walking easy. read more

My husband and I decided to go on a date night pretty last minute and since we wanted to stay in the Winter Park area, I found this place and settled on it. Hung out with my son in Winter Park and I was in the mood for Thai. The restaurant is nice and cozy and staff friendly and knowledgeable. I ordered the yellow curry with lump crab and my son ordered the duck. He did say the duck was a bit more expensive than what he's use to but I told him you pay for quality. I'm so glad I was right! He loved the duck, especially the crispness in the outside and nice and tender inside. I got to say, "told you so." He said he'd never had it crispy outside like that. My curry was delicious if a little sweet for my taste. I mixed in some rice and it made all the difference. I couldn't eat it all so took some home and I tell you it was even better that evening! We stopped in at the Orchid Thai restaurant after visiting the Morris Tiffany museum located in historic Winterpark. We had the appetizer sampler. It was was very good. Nice variety. Service was excellent. For entries we went with the Pararam Chicken and Traditional PadThai both in medium spice level. This spice level was perfect for our Texas palates. We had a wonderful dining experience at this small restaurant in Winter Park! The ambiance was cozy and elegant -- real orchids on the tables and small light lamps made it easy to see the menu while keeping a relaxing vibe. The menu is moderately priced ($$), and we ordered several dishes to share -- a starter, salad, curry, and a few others. Our friend mentioned that the owner personally makes all the sauces for the menu, which made the meal feel even more special. The Panang curry had just the right amount of heat (I ordered it mild), rich and flavorful without being too spicy. The green papaya salad was fresh but could use a bit more lime for balance. The Orchid Sampler was a great way to try different appetizers -- the rolls, shrimp, dumplings, and curry puffs were all delicious, and our server helpfully explained which sauces paired with each. The Mieng Kump Thai leaf snack was new to me -- light, refreshing, and a perfect palate cleanser. The larb chicken in lettuce wraps paired nicely with sticky rice and was full of flavor. Overall, everything tasted fantastic. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the peaceful setting (only two other tables at the time) made it easy to talk and enjoy our meal. We had an excellent lunch here, all three of us really enjoyed our meals and my pineapple fried rice came in an actual pineapple which was really cool. We will come back. The waitress and staff were nice. We also got some fresh donuts for dessert and they were yummy. Yummmmmm! The food was absolutely EXCELLENT! From start to finish I enjoyed my entire dining experience. I sat outside and ordered a few appetizers. Trying new things my server instructed me on the proper way to eat the Nua Kem ( hands, no utensils). It was amazing, as were the spring rolls, I also had the Mango with sticky rice which was delicious. The atmosphere was welcoming, as I was a solo diner, but they had several couples and groups come and go while I was there. Nicole was my server and she recommended the watermelon saketini which was light and tasty. Whenever I'm in Winter Park and I have the availability, Orchid is my go-to for great Thai. Sadly this isn't as often as I'd like (my husband would agree) but it is such a *treat* when we visit! It's a small spot on Park Avenue (you can make reservations!) but has a great patio out front and some bar seating inside, too. It's not at all stuffy and it's truly an authentic place with great food and service. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu - I promise. I'm a big curry fan and always get mine medium spice (you can always add, you can't take away) and extra tofu or vegetables. Hubby loves the Pad Thai or Panang Curry with beef - soooo good. I love getting the Orchid Sampler if we have a dinner party; you get all the prime appetizers to try and it's a decent size, too. Everybody seems to love this place...except us. We visited only once, on 3/4, and ordered the whole snapper to be shared. It was so overcooked that it tasted like one big potato chip with bones. Service & atmosphere are nice, but not my go-to Thai place! I have been to Orchid Thai twice over the past year. I think that this is a nice date spot because it's quiet, it's small, and the lighting is dim. Personally, I'm not crazy about the food. I have not had any negative experiences or bad tasting food, it's just not my favorite Thai place to go to. During both of my visits, I was with at least one other person, and I believe that they enjoyed their food. If you're interested in Thai food, I would suggest giving this place a chance. read more

In retrospect, I spent more time in the Winter Park neighborhood than I realized, which is fine since during my recent brief stay in Orlando, I found the rest of the city to be very "corporate." Not totally a surprise since the behemoth conglomerate that is the Disney corporation is located here. But it seemed to be that much of the cuisine had the theme of "non-offensive" and "bland" trying to appeal to a wide audience. Orchid restaurant is a small-ish Thai joint located off Park Avenue, and we stopped by since there was available outdoor seating. Unlike other reviewers, my local friends and I had GREAT service from our server, Ace. She was extremely helpful with suggestions and was always checking in on us during our meal. Humorously enough, when she asked if we wanted our food to be "American" spicy or "Thai spicy," the three of us enthusiastically replied "Thai spicy!!!" However, when the food arrived, it was not Thai Spicy. My noodles on my drunken noodles were plentiful and had nice chew, but the chicken was a bit overcooked and on the dry side. Sauce was alright but tasted more like dark soy sauce with hardly any fish sauce flavor. Perhaps the biggest disappointment was the lack of spice and heat. I found a few chopped up bird eye's chilis, but I had to ask for the supplemental spice tray to add more chili powder and some sriracha. The tofu curry was the best thing we ate. Stir fryed cubes of tofu were mixed in sugar snap peas, baby corn, mushrooms, bell peppers, and onions. The curry sauce had a deep rich flavor, and we could actually taste the spice in this dish. Slather some of the sauce atop of the accompanying white rice, and it was a satisfying dish. All in all, not a bad experience, but also nothing stellar. It was nice to sit outside enjoying the typical sunny 75-degree temps in Florida while dining al fresco. read more

I came here with some friends for a late night goodbye dinner. It is some place they frequently eat. My one friend recommended to my sister to get her favorite pad Thai. I hate to say it but I found the pad Thai to be very bland! I'm not sure if it was just an off night but even my sister agreed with me. On the other hand, I had the massaman curry and it was delicious! It's my favorite type of curry and they nailed it! The only downside is that I asked for medium spice and I really couldn't taste much, I wanted a kick but didn't want it to overwhelm the curry. I probably should have asked for it hotter on hindsight. Overall, it's a little pricey being on park ave but the quality seems to be there. Absolutely LOVE Orchid Thai! I've been here two times now, both on weekend evenings. Each time service has been attentive, and the food delicious. My friend and I recently made a reservation here for a chill birthday dinner, and it didn't disappoint. All of our food was incredible, and the portions are really great sizes for the price. My friend isn't big on Thai food, but she said the lime? basil rice she had was good! Recommend giving this spot a try- could make for a good date night or more lowkey dinner. One of the first restaurants we went to after restaurants started to open back up for seating several months ago. Been here several times and we always enjoy the outdoor seating especially when the weather was so nice this past Halloween weekend when we had the privilege of dining in once again. This is my favorite soup and salad combo. Not pictured:( is the Tom Kha soup that I devoured in about 2 minutes because I was so hungry. I am a big fan of soup and this hit the spot. Had it with chicken and added some of the dry chilies to make it spicy. Then to the salad. The Som Tum salad was extremely satisfying. I added shrimp that was perfectly cooked and seasoned. And of course, I added dry chilies to the dish to make it extra spicy. It is salty, tangy, and super fresh. The textures of the freshly shredded papaya, chopped green beans and the crushed peanuts sprinkled all over worked so well together to make every bite full of flavor. The prices line dressing pulled the whole thing together. I actually had this soup and salad on Saturday and then again today for a late lunch:) read more

Attended a business lunch at Orchid. The restaurant started off with a great best practice, cold water with cucumber. Great touch. I had the shrimp with a garlic sauce with broccoli and carrots. A nice little local restaurant with delicious food. We ordered the chicken satay, golden purses, massaman curry and panang curry (not pictured) as we forgot and just dug straight into it. The curries were flavourful but it wasn't spicy at all. I'm surprised they didn't offer spice levels to go with the curry as usually it would have somewhat of a kick to it. There wasn't any issue with getting a seat, but we were slightly early for dinner. It did pick up later on. Our server was slightly rude and impatient.. Sue and her team at Orchid Thai are such great and welcoming hosts. We frequent their Winter Park location and often sit outside because it's one of the nicer and shaded outdoor dining spots on Park Avenue, and obviously because of the food. :) Our go-to meal is the Chicken Pineapple Fried Rice inside a pineapple . It'll look massive but I promise you can eat it in one sitting if you skip the appetizers. I usually get it with medium spice and my husband gets mild. Another bonus that we recently discovered is that this location has a bar inside! Go check them out for some delicious Thai. You won't be disappointed! read more

My husband is a vegetarian so we tend to pick Asian cuisine the most because they always have multiple options for him to choose from. We decided to head to Winter Park and walk the strip at Park Ave and see what our options would be. We stumbled upon the cutest restaurant that had outdoor seating and we decided to give it a go. The restaurant looked pretty full inside and there was only one table left for outdoor dining (but it was reserved). To our pleasant surprised the host accommodated us and we were seated shortly after taking our names. We had the best server, her name is Joy. We were costumers of this restaurant for over 15 years. Today was totally lousy and unprofessional . After our waiter told us that manager is not here we asked to call Manager Richard . We always order the chicken curry Panang which has a wonderful lime and lemongrass flavor.. We explained that the food we ordered today had two main ingredients missing , which showed on menu. we alerted waiter which was very gracious about it and he called Richard the manager. Unfortunately Richard was rude and td us we should have told him at beginning of eating and he declined to discount or comp us this dish ($18) We are very dissatisfied with this unprofessional response and will now stop recommending this place to our clients and we also will stop coming here. Ordered yellow curry with chicken, orchid salad, and spring rolls to-go and everything was delicious. The rolls were crispy and fresh with a tangy dipping sauce that was so good. Another 5 star meal today! Thai is our favorite cuisine and we're so lucky to have a total of six excellent Thai restaurants within two miles of our house. While they are all very good and highly rated, in my opinion, the Thai Orchid's curries are the best of all six! We are regulars who have been enjoying Thai meals at the Thai Orchid for many years. Service has always been excellent, and John is amazing and attentive! Plus you have the benefit of dining on the avenue in downtown Winter Park! There are so many really good restaurant choices in downtown Winter Park with a variety of cuisines, but Thai orchid is our favorite and most visited. read more
