This automatically became my favorite Thai restaurant in Orlando! Great service and even better food! We ordered the oysters, which were delicious and came with a green sauce that had just the right amount of spice. We also had the Yum Ta Krai Salmon, which tasted incredibly fresh. The Goong Prik Kluea shrimp were large, flavorful, and perfectly cooked! Our favorite dishes of the night were definitely the chicken Tom Kha soup and the Pa Nang scallops. I love a good Tom Kha soup, and this was easily the best I've ever had! It was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced, served over a special dish with a flame underneath to keep it hot throughout the meal, such a nice touch! The other standout was the Pa Nang scallops. Whoever makes the sauce for this dish is a genius! I almost wanted to grab a straw and drink the sauce by itself. The scallops were cooked perfectly, and the flavors were incredible. Wow! They also have a great drink menu, but we took advantage of their happy hour specials and ordered a passion fruit mimosa and a coconut mojito. TALAY is okay at BEST. There are definitely other Thai cuisine-based restaurants that surpass TALAY. However, there's no need to dive into that. What is GOOD about this place is that the service is usually ALWAYS very quick. Very rarely have I waited long at this restaurant for anything, be it help from staff, food, or drinks. They should really pride themselves on that fact because sometimes it is hard to come by such efficient service - especially during busy dinner hours. The restaurant itself is so beautiful. Very IG worthy! It looks lovely in the daytime, and during the evening, the mood lighting indoors adds to the overall intimate feel of the space. There is also a good amount of seating outdoors, if you want to eat outdoors. Noir Bar is connected via a not-so-hidden corridor/passageway. Within that passageway are also the shared restrooms for both locations. As far as the food goes, it is OKAY. Again, it isn't the best, but it most certainly is not BAD. I usually order one of my usual dishes. In my last adventure to TALAY, because I have been a handful of times, I went with their vegetable Pad Thai (Price: $17.00). It was chock-full of veggies, a thin rice noodle, eggs, bean sprouts, scallions, and peanuts (which they placed off to the side). The sauce this time around was a bit sweeter than my liking, but overall, I enjoyed my plate. I didn't order any of their seasonal cocktails, but I do love that they offer various seasonal cocktails (and seasonal menus) throughout the year. It is a great way to keep you going back. Pricing can get a little high pending what you order. However, a good chunk of the menu is "reasonable." Parking in this area is always a hassle, but it exists all around, and if you are lucky, you can get FREE street parking. All in all, it is a good place to visit. This is a beautiful restaurant with a wonderful patio. There is a good selection of items and drinks. It is a little pricy and sharing is a good idea to keep the cost down. We had two drinks the guava and tamarind but did not enjoy the flavors. For appetizers we had the roti with curry sauce...yum and spring rolls which both were very good. Came here for a Book Club meeting and it was the perfect spot. The place is open with tall ceilings and floor to ceiling windows gave the place such an airy feel. I started off with a great little mocktail. It was super sweet but still delicious. Everyone else in my party seem to like their drinks.The spring rolls were fresh but beware if you don't like spice the sauce that came with it is something you may want to skip great flavor, but way too spicy. As someone who is very picky and from LA, I have pretty high standards when it comes to food in general. Now, I love Thai food, but I wasn't sure about the food scene in Orlando. As soon as I walked in, I was met with the most gorgeous interior. I came at an awkward time so it was very empty, but I preferred it that way. It honestly felt like fine dining. I started with their roti which was absolutely divine. It was melt-in-your mouth DELICIOUS and the coconut curry sauce was out of the world. I got their fried snapper as the main. I usually don't get fish, but the server said it was good. The fish itself was fine?-- but the star of the show was the salad that came with it. We sat at the bar, but didn't know we needed to check in for the hostess stand. As most bars you just bypass and sit. The hostess may have been annoyed with did that, from her demeanor. I put that in quotes because this place spells it with a mow vs Mao which is technically the correct way. You know how all the asian restaurants have typos on their menus and this is no exception. It is essentially drunken noodles, a name given since this is supposed to be something great after a night of drinking. Just make sure your job isn't proofreading menus. I opted for the shrimp and it came out so quick! Portions are kinda small but I'd have to say their shrimp did not disappoint. They gave me 6 super big juicy suckers. On Sunday, one of my friends had taste for Thai food so we did some research I ended up coming here for lunch. We were very impressed with the decoration and how pretty the place was. We were super excited to try something new. One of my friends came in first and order some appetizer. Even though the menu did call out some allergies it was hard for me to select and wanted someone that could explain them. My friends loved their food, which I was so happy. For me, I felt disappointed on the options for allergy sufferers. My bad on my part for not doing some research before hand but it was kind of a last-minute. Let me clarify that the restaurant does have different options and the menu itself looks great. However, for me, my only options were the curries or the creamy soups, none that I prefer. I personally do not like my food being on the sweet side. I was excited when I saw the Tom Yum soup but then this one was creamy not the clear one. Which added to my disappointment because most of the Thai restaurants have the clear one. No options were provided to me to customize some of the plates. Perhaps it was impossible, but it would had been nice to at least feel that was a possibility. Then, this narrowed it down to the only plate that I would want to eat which was the Pla Nueng Ma Now (chilean seabass). The fish itself was OK. The broth was really good and while I ordered mild it was still spicy. So it was great to see that they truly do thai hot. The plate came with rice, which I didn't want to eat, and instead I asked for veggies. The server told me they could not substitute the rice, but it would be an additional side. Honestly, adding the veggies was not a big deal, but it would had been nice to feel some type of accommodation. At the end of the day that jasmine rice went to waste. I would've had expected that they will substitute the side and just up charge me for the veggies. Overall, it was an OK experience for me. This was my 2nd time going to Talay, and both times it was great! It's a beautiful restaurant with great ambiance, perfect for date night or out with the girls. The food both times were great, especially since Thai food is among our favorites. We've had the Yum Ta Krai Salmon, curry duck, pa nang scallops, and several of the cocktails. I'll note that I'm gluten free and the menu makes it easy for me to find gf options to eat. That said, there aren't a lot of gf options, which is fine, I knew that before going. What I was disappointed in the 2nd visit is the Pa nang scallops. I was expecting sea scallops and it was actually bay scallops. Mybe I should've done my due diligence and looked at photos before but for the price I didn't think twice. When the dish came out it was sad looking, and wasn't a pretty presentation compared to the rest of the dishes everyone else ordered. I didn't complain for two reasons: I didn't ask our server about the scallop size, and the bay scallops were actually cooked well, not rubbery. First things first: I love Thai food. It's in my top 3 most ordered cuisines on Uber Eats so I order it fairly often and am accustomed to eating it out of takeout containers in front of my TV lol. So to say that I was excited about an elevated dining experience with Thai food is an understatement! All were delicious and I'd recommend them all but I do have to comment on the pricing. You are definitely paying a little more money for the ambiance and presentation. Like I said previously, I order Thai takeout A LOT and the food at Talay is honestly comparable to a lot of other Thai places in town but a little more money, and in some instances, like with the starters, the food portions are smaller than other Thai spots. This shrinkflation is happening all over the country right now and you'll probably notice that Talay is not exempt from this trend. I think if you know this going in, it'll help to temper your expectations. I think the best scenarios to go to Talay are for date night or a happy hour hangout with close friends. They were very accepting of changing a rice dish to make it palatable (less spicy) for children. The server was really nice and helpful explaining the menu. To start we got the raw salmon and spring rolls. We also got Roti and this was amazing. For a Saturday it was pretty decent and the crowd was to a minimum, but I also do feel it is because of the timing. We had dinner reservations at 5pm and it was amazing. The big standout for me was the mignonette that came with the oysters and the green curry that came with the roti (yes, I just had the curry on its own). Definitely recommend!! The restaurant is located in a quiet neighbourhood. We sat on the patio and saw a lot of people walking their dogs, going for a run or riding their bikes. Talay is an elevated Thai place located in the North Quarter (north of downtown). Stopped by on a Friday evening for a 6:15pm seating and were able to easily find street parking a few feet from the restaurant. The decor is modern and the lighting is dim which makes for a great date night environment, even though we brought our 18 month old along; they do offer high chairs which is a plus for a place like this. The food is elevated Thai but the prices are super reasonable and comparable to typical Thai places, barely a bit higher. The roti and especially the sauce that accompanied it was outstanding. The sauce had a bit of a kick to it, I just wish the roti portion was slightly bigger. The rest of the portion sizes were larger than expected for a place of this caliber. The pad Thai portion was generous and the beef was tender, and a great value at $17. The goong prik kluea was mildly spicey and the shrimp were jumbo sized and well seasoned and went well over rice. The gai satay on its own could've had more flavor but the accompanying peanut sauce made it a still solid choice as an appetizer Overall the price for the value, friendly service, and vibey atmosphere is worth 5 stars. This place is a great date night and I hope it sticks around as a mainstay of the downtown food scene. read more
