I was definitely warned about the oh my lychee cocktail numerous times by the server yet I neglected to follow her warnings and went with it anyways. She informed me that I cannot take it back once it has been made, this did scare me but I wanted to really try that lychee foam, which in fact was the best thing about the drink. Be warned - it tastes like Robitussin cough syrup and after I drink it the service stopped by and said cough syrup right away before I even said it to her, haha. I should have listened to the server that time but I chugged it down like I had a bad flu cough and held my nose like when I take a dose of the cough medicine, eww. Talay is one of the best Thai spots in town, where you can experience savory, bold, and authentic Thai dishes right in the heart of Orlando. The interiors had a coastal-meets-modern aesthetic that creates a chill, relaxed atmosphere. The design was a 10/10 in my book. My husband and I met up with a friend for an earlier dinner and we were the first ones there when they reopened at 4PM on a Saturday. It wasn't too busy, so we were able to grab a table right away. We started off with a couple of appetizers: the Keaw Wan Roti and Por Pia Tod(vegetable spring rolls). The roti came with a green curry dip that had just the right amount of spice, and the spring rolls were perfectly crispy without being greasy. Of course, I had to get a Thai iced tea. My husband tried the Nothin' but Coconut cocktail, and our friend ordered an Old Fashioned. The coconut cocktail was a bit strong, but the Thai iced tea had just the right amount of sweetness and was very refreshing. Our server was super friendly and attentive--making sure we always had enough water and checking in on us regularly. For our mains, we ordered Beef Pad Thai, Shrimp Pad Thai, and Gaeng Phed Ped Yang(roast duck with red curry). My husband and I shared the Shrimp Pad Thai and roast duck with red curry, and both dishes had balanced flavors that weren't overpowering. The spice level on the curry was just enough to give it a kick while still being enjoyable. For dessert, I have been craving Khao Neaw Ma Muang (mango sticky rice), and it did not disappoint! It had the perfect amount of sweetness and a refreshing finish that totally satisfied my mango craving. My family and I came here for a few apps and drinks and we really enjoyed it! The space was beautiful and i loved how airy and light it felt. Our server was extremely sweet and quick. We decided to try the pad see ew as well as their pineapple fried rice. The lunch menu meant we got a small bowl of vegetable soup and an egg roll. The soup was delicious with a hint of spice and sweetness. Our pineapple fried rice with chicken was rich and very tasty. Kind of a Smokey flavor added in too. Pad Thai with chicken was delicious, although too sweet. I'm not a fan of overly sweet dishes and unfortunately the pad see ew was extremely sweet also. Not sure why every dish we had today had too much sweetness to it. I didn't realize Thai food was very sweet. I feel like I've eaten at a few other Thai places and not had this issue. This restaurant is super cute! The aesthetics are very clean and modern vibes! It's wonderful to catch up with friends, go with family, or go on a lunch date with your colleagues. It's located right next to Reye's and it's very spacious. We ordered the pad Thai, spring rolls, soup and the sea bass. Everything was absolutely delicious and fresh! The flavor in the Seabass took the cake for me today! It was pretty spicy, though. They call it medium, but for me, it was a little more than that! We really enjoyed our first experience at Talay! We went early on Sunday right when they open for dinner at 4pm and we were the only ones in there at that time. Now that we have a baby, we're early dinner people, haha. The new interior is absolutely stunning with lots of natural fluted wood and beige accents. There's a large central bar with table seating around the perimeter and an outdoor patio for dining as well. They were still waiting on their liquor license when we were there last, but they had some beautiful, tasty mocktails to choose from. I got the Honey's Passion and it was so good -- light and refreshing. I'm a sucker for anything with passionfruit in it. For appetizers we started with the keaw wan roti and the por pia pod (veggie spring rolls). We were dining with friends who are mostly vegetarian, so we wanted to get things that were veg friendly for the table. Both dishes were tasty and the green curry sauce that comes with the roti is amazing. I just wish they gave you a few more pieces of roti to soak up all that sauce. The triangles were very thin and small. This was my only gripe through the whole meal. From there, my husband & I decided to share a couple main dishes including the sua rong hai (picanha steak) and the pa nang scallops (medium spicy) which is served with white rice. Both were excellent! The pa nang curry sauce was fabulous with just the right amount of spice and the scallops were cooked perfectly. The steak was also cooked perfectly, medium rare as requested and they give you a very generous portions which is great for sharing. We actually really liked dipping the picanha in the remaining green curry sauce from the roti! Our friends enjoyed the pad see ew and goong ob sen (shrimp with glass noodles). The shrimp were huge and this dish could also easily be shared. I will say that it's a bit more of an upscale Thai restaurant which is reflected in the price, but it was worth it for the quality and nice ambiance. The have a large menu that features both dishes you'd commonly find at a Thai restaurant, like pad thai, as well as dishes that are maybe less common but so so delicious! They also have a great drink menu with a wide range of flavors. We got the dragon fruit and watermelon cocktails. Both were great! 5 Stars for truly delightful seafood-forward Thai food with all the aesthetics and plenty of spice! Ok, so to start please know that this spot is cute. Like, she's real cute. Get your camera phone ready because you're going to want to take photos of the restaurant, you inside the restaurant, and the beautifully plated dishes. The server came up and explained that Talay means sea in Thai and they're specialty is seafood. The menu featured the classics (which you can make vegetarian by choosing tofu or veggies instead of meat or seafood), but it also has some really special dishes that I hadn't seen before. Here were my faves: - Por Pia Tod: Crispy vegetable spring rolls, sweet Thai chili sauce. This dish came with 4 spring rolls and we enjoyed the sauce (which was mild). - Goong Lui Suan: Thai-style shrimp summer rolls, Thai basil, lettuce, julienne carrots, bean sprouts, cilantro, creamy chili-lime sauce. WOW- The herbs really shone here. The chili-lime sauce was pretttty spicy, so I opted to eat it without a sauce. If you prefer things mild, I would ask for this dish with peanut sauce. - Keaw Wan Roti: Pan-fried roti bread, green curry dipping sauce. This sauce was the star of the show. It had us all wanting to dip everything we got in it! (Spicy) - Gai Satay: Thai chicken skewers, curry powder, cucumber salad, peanut sauce. This chicken satay was light years above any satay I've had in Orlando. It was perfectly grilled and the peanut sauce was clearly homemade. A big winner. - Salmon Chae Nam Pla (Raw section): Sliced salmon, salmon roe, mint, cilantro chili-lime dressing. This was delicious, but WOO-EEE, it was spicy. Definitely spicier than a medium, if that's your limit. Loved the mint with the fish and dressing. - Pa Nang Scallops: Seared scallops in Pa Nang curry, kaffir lime, Thai chili, coconut milk. This was a STAR. It's again, more hot than medium in spice level, but the scallops were big and succulent and I could've bathed in the curry sauce. - Pad See Ew: Flat rice noodles, egg, Chinese broccoli, Talay's signature wok sauce. My husband got this with tofu and it was delicious. You could pick the spice level on the Classic section of the menu, but know that medium is much spicier than the mediums you get at other local Thai restaurants. I would err on the safe side with regards to your spice tolerance. Note: The bathrooms are special... I don't want to give away why, but just know that it's a cool experience walking up to them. Excited to be able to get a table for 2 last minute on a Friday night, there was plenty of seating. The ambiance was a bit underwhelming. It was missing a bit of Thai flair in my opinion and felt like a very neutral space, nonetheless it was a beautiful restaurant. The food was excellent, we started with the picanha which was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The spring rolls were good - we enjoyed the sauce they were served with. The mussels were such a unique experience, probably the best mussels I've had in a long time - the lemongrass basil broth was so flavorful and delicious. Came here a few days after they opened for a quick lunch. They had a nice lunch menu and I opted for the plain pad rhai with no protein. It was really delicious and there was a really nice amount. The soup and mini egg roll that came with the pad thai were also delicious. The onlt thing is that the spice level was not as spicy as I would think a true Thai restaurant would be. I love spicy food but could tell they definitely tone it down for the crowd. They had other things on the menu that looked delicious that I would go back to try. They are definitely on the pricier side when it comes to Thai food. The location is great and you can parallel park in front on Orange if you can find a space, if not, just make your way around one block over to Magnolia and parallel park there; there are always so many spots there. My girl came to this place twice with her friends. And this time, she wanted to take me because she love the food here. The restaurant itself is beautiful, kinda cool; a bit dark for me, but doesn't bother me much. We ordered beef pad thai, raw shrimp in spicy sauce, sua rong hai (sliced steak) & hor mok talay (mixed seafood & red curry). Everything tasted delicious, the portions were good. For dessert, we ordered milo drink & cream brûlée egg custard pumpkin. I don't have much to say about these two. They look nice, but are bland. It's a waste to order these. However, we didn't like the way the waitresses served us. They were nonchalant, cold, almost rude and unwelcoming. One of the girls put my dessert down on the table quite forcefully and walked away without apology while the other didn't mind to double check with kitchen or manager when I asked her to do me a favor on one of my entrées. For the main entree we ordered the scallops curry, salmon curry, and crab fried rice. The scallops curry were delicious. Didn't care much for the salmon. The crab fried rice was really good. The only thing is that you cannot change the level of how spicy you want like other Thai restaurants. I think it's because they make the curry sauce in a batch and just add the protein and veggies as ordered. Also, if you want a refill on the roti, they charge you $4. Just keep that in mind if the server asked if you want more. For the on the rocks drinkers, extra $1 for the rock/ice. The service started good, but it took some time for our food to come out. This restaurant is very easy to find downtown and there is street parking available. We were able to get a parking space directly in front of the restaurant when we came for the lunch special. The lunch menu is small and specific to a hand printed menu, but the price is good. I found the restaurant to be very nice inside, clean, chicken and large. They also had a very nice covered outdoors space. We came in for something quick and started with coffee and a cocktail that was made from coconut water and cream. Both the coffee and cocktail were 5/5. Their cocktail menu is actually pretty nice. They have a lot of intricate and enticing options and the menu is very colorful and plastic unlike the paper menus for dining. Unfortunately, I was advised nothing is gluten-free on the menu except the Pad Thai and rhe Curry. While those are good options and I like both they were a bit heavy for lunch and I wanted a simple veggie and rice type dish. I was quite dissapointed that at a place like that they offered none that were gluten-free because it's so simple and easy to have a sautéed vegetable and rice dish. I just ordered steamed veggies and a side of rice and steamed shrimp. It came out rather sad just like that. No seasoning, no love put into it and it wasn't even on the same plate it was just in three little bowls. I was hoping they might add a little garlic to the vegetables, but no. Went Saturday night at 6; it's their soft opening, so I expected some hiccups. There were none; it was perfect. The service was great! Very helpful in alerting one member of our party to foods that would have shellfish so she could avoid them (allergy). There's no liquor or beer/wine license yet, so I had a mocktail, a diet coke and a thai tea for drinks (the mocktail was as delicious as it was beautiful). For food, I ordered the crispy vegetable spring rolls (Por Pia Tod), the sweet corn salad (Tum Khao Pode), the house picanha (Sua Rong Hai), the fried snapper filet (Pla Tod Yum Ma Muang), and the chewy taro balls (Bua Loy Ma Praw On). The snapper with the mango, cashews, red onion, radish and lime dressing was my favorite dish. It's really spacious with an ample bar area. It's easy to have a conversation there because it's not too loud. The porch area looks absolutely lovely, and will be so nice in warmer weather. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I could just live inside this restaurant. The ambience and décor are absolutely stunning. It's decorated so beautifully that you'd almost expect the food to fall short because it's rarely both, but not here. The food was every bit as amazing as the atmosphere. The service was fantastic. Our hostess and server were adorably sweet, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from start to finish. The food came out faster than any meal I've ever ordered, and everything was spotless, organized, and inviting. This is thicker and has a stronger flavor. * Sua Rong Hai (House-marinated picanha, roasted chili relish): the sauce/relish is what makes this so good. Pairs very well with the steak. * Kor Moo Yang (House-marinated pork jowl, roasted chili relish): same sauce that comes with the Sua Rong Hai but the pork isn't as good as the picanha. * Oysters (Blue Point oysters, Talay's mignonette, golden crisp shallots, lemon): the spicy green sauce that comes with these oysters is SO good. * Pad Kee Mow (Flat rice noodles, bell peppers, Thai basil, chili, Talay's spicy wok sauce): good flavor and texture! I recommend it. * Tum Khao Pode (Sweet corn salad, Thai chili, garlic, tomato, peanut, lime dressing): I love corn so I had to try this. It's refreshing and I liked it but I think other dishes are probably more worthwhile. * Keaw Wan Gai (White meat chicken in green curry, bamboo shoots, bell peppers, Thai basil, coconut milk): this is not as good as the panang curry because it had a more subtle flavor. I prefer the green curry from Sea Thai. Also, I was disappointed that they use that processed chicken like most Thai restaurants do. They won't even give you the option to substitute it for a different protein. I would think this kind of higher end restaurant would have better quality chicken in their dishes. * Jasmine rice: I just have to note that they give you one bowl of with the curry but it obviously requires more rice. They charge you 4 dollars for each small bowl of rice. This may not be unusual for restaurants but I find it a little ridiculous how restaurants give you way too little rice and then want to nickel and dime you. Rice is not that expensive. read more

I got a shrimp dish and the shrimp were big and plump and juicy , but they weren't seasoned at all. It came with a side of sauce but it just didn't work with the dish. The Vegetable spring rolls were the perfect crunchy fried starters with spicy sweet thai chilli sauce. Now for the NOODS...we ordered the Pad See Ew to share, my favorite Thai noodle dish ever. The flat rice noodles were the best tossed in the signature Talay sauce with medium spice and tofu requested. Safe to say we ate the whole thing! My girl friend got the pad Thai served with thin rice noodles and an interesting twist with the tamarind sauce. I love how many options are given for vegetarians and vegans here...it's truly impressive and my vegan girl friend had no problem finding options. You are able to have tofu as your protein in most any of these noodle and rice dishes Not to mention that most of their noodles are gluten free, my personal preference. I chose the Goong Mae Nam aka grilled jumbo river prawn and I love the way they present this dish! The tower with the prawn underneath and the sauce on top felt so fancy to eat. The meat melted in your mouth and the homemade spicy dipping sauces were so unique and fresh. The entire restaurant + restrooms are ground floor and handicap accessible. Located in the North Quarter of downtown this place is grown and sophisticated. I came after work right as they opened and was able to enjoy some appetizers and a drink. I'm excited about returning for a meal soon. The atmosphere is Mediterranean and took me outside of the congested outside of Downtown Orlando. The servers greeted me as soon as I entered and even offered suggestions. This was a stop on my way to Noir- the speak easy located inside of this establishment, but I plan on frequenting Talay. The restaurant's website claims "urban sophistication meets Thai coastal allure" and it delivers. The sophistication shows in the stylish décor and the artful presentation of each dish. Salmon curry isn't traditionally common in Thailand (salmon isn't native to Thai waters), and it was the first time I saw it on a menu. So I had to try their red curry salmon, Gaeng Dang Salmon. The perfectly grilled salmon was bathed in a rich red curry, with tender bamboo shoots, bell peppers, Thai basil, and creamy coconut milk. It was lovely! The jasmine rice was slightly too sticky for my taste, with grains that were smaller than I prefer, but overall the dish deserves 5 stars. I am, however, awarding Talay 4 stars due to slightly inattentive service. While the server was respectful and friendly, she disappeared twice, and we had to call her to the table the two times because she wasn't checking on us at all. Maybe we got unlucky and I will definitely come back to try their "Thai" picanha and Sea Bass. read more

This place is a hidden gem thus far. It's located in downtown but not much parking around the restaurant so this may be the deterrent for people to come here. But the food is amazing and definitely worth the drive and trouble to search for a parking space. The service is good depending on which server you get. Usually they are very accommodating and hospitable and will adjust any dish as required. And quite honestly, one doesn't have to adjust much of anything as each and everything we tried was simply delicious. The ambiance is clean, cute, modern, and quiet. You can have a business dinner, romantic dinner or family dinner comfortably. read more

My husband and I went last weekend and had a great time. The atmosphere was really nice, and the food was delicious! We tried the half dozen oysters, grilled picanha (Sua Rong Hai), and the creamy calamari and shrimp stir fry (Goong Muk Karee). Each dish had such fresh and vibrant flavors.
