If you talk extensively about a sandwich hours after eating it then that sandwich is wifey material. After a successful Mercury Lounge concert, my main man Brian drove us back to Jersey. On our trek we reminisced on this vegan chicken and the similar sandwich textures of old. Copenhagen Salmon sliders stood next to Orchard Grocer in high regard. Something about the flaky, buttery, smearable nature of this meat alternative proved satisfying on all cylinders. Fraternal twins Romey and Georgina stand tall, with sauce (Buffalo or BBQ) the primary difference. Scientifically proven, my taste is superior. Our group passed around five different sandwiches and my selection was top rated by the majority. Pickled onion fans unite under the Romey flag, ranch dripping heavy enough to seduce any Midwesterner. Our other members were the aforementioned Georgina, breakfast oriented Bowery, too little mayo Monty, and BLT copycat Rocko. As a sauce savant, my only suggestion would be to lather the Monty a bit thicker with that white condiment that your grandparents love. Barring that small change, hats off to the Thursday AM kitchen crew you beauties. The argument that you want "real meat" will only get you so far in life. Grow up and come taste this delectable deli you cowards.

For a vegan ice cream, it's really delicious! They were able to make it creamy and right amount of sweetness. I also tried the joy ride sugar free candies which weren't bad just everything was pricey. It's a cute store and glad they have different alternatives for vegans!

Small in size but impactful on the vegan belly and pantry. A great option for those who can't make it further to a larger grocery store for vegan specialty items. A somewhat remarkable selection of cheeses. I had the rocko sandwich today and it was without a doubt perfectly delicious, the tempeh was cooked well. I saw people noshing on the soft serve outside but regrettably didnt partake. The outdoor dining is still there so I got to enjoy the old Orchard street vibe at the same time as my sandwich. Epic vegan vibes!

My first stop after arriving back in NYC for breakfast was here at Orchard Grocer, a vegan grocery store in Chinatown with a robust deli menu. Their menu is filled with traditional and bagel sandwiches - all clearly marked with ingredients and mode of carb. You order with the staff at the front and wait for them to call your order. I went with the Edith ($12), their take on the NY classic bagel & lox, and also ordered a side of their Mac N Cheese ($7). The bagel was massive - I had forgotten how thick these were in NY, but it was very much reminiscent of lox with the marinated carrot. The mac was also good and a hearty side. Everything was great but very heavy, so don't feel like you need to finish it all in one go. Since you're inside a grocery store, there isn't much space to sit and eat. They do have a small counter by the door that fits 2-3 people where you can eat and people watch.

Orchard Grocer is a small vegan deli. the shelves are stocked with a limited variety of vegan-friendly grocery / pantry items. there's a small counter and menu-above where you can order vegan sandos + some sweet eats and vegan soft serve. i've had the sandwiches like the grilled cheese in prior years and those have been good and satisfying (4-star quality). finally, tried the vegan soft serve a few weeks ago and had high hopes...but the soft serve missed the mark in terms of overall quality and flavor. ordered a vanilla soft serve but it barely tasted like vanilla but tasted more like cashews bc that's one of the ingredients in the soft serve, itself. there was not a hint of vanilla flavor, at all, just the cashew flavor. nothing against cashews--they are fine and all but they don't like vanilla. the other issue with the soft serve was that it was more like an icee / slurpee consistency than soft serve smooth. there were small frozen ice chips throughout and tasted less like ice cream...and more like ice cream blended with ice. not terrible, but not very pleasant to eat either. kept thinking maybe it's just the top of my soft serve cup, but i spooned through the soft serve and it was small ice chipped throughout. maybe they should allow you to sample the soft serve beforehand. maybe they should allow you to sample the soft serve beforehand? hopefully this was an off-day for the soft serve...but the soft serve was 2 stars at best. i rounded up the review to 3 stars--to give this place the benefit of doubt. the service was curt, at best.

Service is great. The food was delicious, I ordered the Bowery sandwich on an everything bagel and I would definitely order it again. My husband ordered the Edith sandwich and he really enjoyed it.

New favorite vegan spot. Remind me of a classic NYC bodega, but catered to a vegan audience. The store is stocked with amazing vegan goodies and the deli makes amazing sandwiched and salads. The staff here are very friendly, but they do take a while to get your order ready especially when it's rush hour. I recommend ordering online and picking up your order to avoid a wait. I've tried several of their sandwiches and salads, they're always filled with food and so flavorful. Also don't miss out on trying their soft serve, so good especially on a hot day. Their stuff is definitely on the pricier end, but imo worth it since you can't find anything like it.

My favorite place to get delicious and creative vegan sandwiches. Our clinic often orders delivery from here on Sundays and my go to's are either the special of the day or the chicken nuggets. Everything from here travels extremely well and are created with high quality ingredients. The nuggets are super crispy and come with a variety of dipping sauces, my favorite is the bbq. The most recent special I had was a hot agave popcorn chicken sandwich which was absolutely amazing with its sweet and savory contrast. Overall fantastic spot and I can't wait to visit in person one day!

Hands down one of the best vegan breakfast sammies I've tasted. I order The Miles and my husband order The Bowery. Both were delicious z the flavors melded so well together and it was the perfect level of spicy with the spicy mayo. The croissant was buttery and flakey and simply so delicious. The grocery store itself is nice and has quite a bit of variety!

Hi Tiffany. Our soft serve is cashew based.

Can I buy the carrot lox by the lb to take home or is it only available with food orders?

The dining room is spacious and with a nice ambience between the lighting and artwork of willow trees. For dinner - I had the whiskey BBQ brisket and fries. The texture and taste of the "meat" was fantastic. Most meat eaters wouldn't even realize that they are eating plant-based brisket - it was that good! Our server "Teddy" was attentive, informative, friendly - and with a clever sense of humor. The price paid was commensurate for the quality of food and service received. This sandwich is usually not something that is available vegetarian so i was curious to see the flavors and textures. The steak is chewy and meaty so if you are not a fan of faux meat then i would proceed with caution. I enjoy the cheeses here as they are unique and different from each other. The sandwich overall was okay though not my favorite sandwich ever. - smoked Mac and cheese (7/10): macaroni with smoked goat cheese, cheddar, mozzarella baked in a cast iron skillet and topped with vegan pancetta and breadcrumbs. This was a cozy appetizer especially on a cold day. The flavors of the cheese are rich and smoky with a hint of saltiness from the pancetta and breadcrumbs. I would have liked it to be a larger portion and offered as an entree. WOULD I GO BACK? Maybe. I liked the ambiance and the option to try dishes that are usually meat heavy but the cuisine is not my personal favorite.

They take pride in their restaurant's offerings, as they should. My server was wonderful, offering suggestions to this first-timer. I started with a Volcano Roll - hearts of palm substituting for fish. Well balanced and delicious. Next was broccoli "beef" - fresh broccoli and shitake "steak" with mushrooms really balanced the dish. I ended with something so unnecessary and so wonderful, I'm glad I did it: The sticky toffee pudding. Just pure delight. It was relatively quiet when I was there. I could see how it could get a bit noisy if it were crowded. But even so, the people who visit are friendly and I ended up having a great conversation with the table next to me. I'll be back. I'm not exactly local, but it's definitely worth the trip! Planta is on my faves list now!

Funny enough, we met our only other vegan friend there. So, from the vegan perspective, this is a popular and tasty place. We started with drinks, being lunchtime, we opted for non alcoholic drinks, the matcha colada and the salty maple macchiato. The matcha colada had a nice color but tasted mostly like coconut and pineapple which was still yummy. Friends ordered 3 different kinds of sushi and dan dan noodles with tofu. I was confused with the sushi as I thought vegans didn't eat fish...so yes I asked and was told that they probably made the "fish" with tapioca. I did try a bite of each roll (I was still full from the fest) and I was surprised that it tasted pretty good. They did a nice job with the roll and presentation. The matcha cheesecake was nice and creamy. I would not have known it was vegan. I don't normally like food that pretends to be something else because it usually doesn't live up to the real thing. The idea is that it is not pretending to be something but rather substituting with vegan options, I do think from a health perspective, I am more open to trying more vegan foods. Ambiance felt upscale and wait staff were helpful and congenial. I hear dinner time gets packed here. I may have to try again when I have not eaten already.

The space was super clean, calm, and had a vibe that felt authentic to the cuisine. The staff was also incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and fast, which made the whole experience even better. But the food is what really blew me away. I got the Korean Wild Green Tea First Picked, and it was unreal. Yes, it had that beautiful green tea character, but it was so much more layered than that--smooth, complex, almost naturally sweet, and honestly one of the most memorable teas I've had anywhere. I also ordered the iced matcha latte, and it was easily the best matcha latte I've ever had: no grittiness at all, just incredibly smooth, creamy, and perfectly balanced. We also had the baby dumplings in spicy sauce, popcorn shrimp, fried Manchurian cauliflower, spicy kimchi pancakes, Peking duck baos, and the duck rice bowl. Every single dish was excellent. I'm still baffled by how well they nailed the shrimp texture--seriously impressive. The flavors across the board were rich, creative, and satisfying without feeling heavy.
