The lady working check-in was also working the dining room/lounge and cleaning tables. I asked her about this and she said her co-worker called in (not sure if that meant they called they would be late or not coming in)... Sounds like a very unreliable, selfish, and typical millennial employee is her co-worker who would leave this lady to work alone. What if this lady "called in" too - then the club wouldn't open at all. Anyway, they need to get rid of her co-worker and get a more reliable person to help this lady. I watched her hustle between checking people in, then grabbing a tray to clear people's plates, etc... She was constantly moving. I felt bad for all the work she had to do, on her own. Nothing about the meal stood out as particularly well-prepared or worthy of the prices. What really surprised us was the complete lack of acknowledgment of my wife's birthday. I'd made a point of including it in the reservation, and even punctuated the occasion when I checked into the host station... yet there was no effort to make the evening feel even remotely special. No small gesture, no dessert, nothing. As we were leaving, someone simply said, "Happy birthday," which honestly felt more awkward and obligatory than thoughtful. We certainly weren't expecting an elaborate celebration, but a little hospitality and attention to detail would have gone a long way. The saving grace was the atmosphere and the wonderful company of our friends. Without those two things, the evening would have been a significant disappointment. The York has a great vibe, and that's what originally drew us in. But ambiance alone doesn't justify upscale pricing.
