Optum has been the only specialty pharmacy that is consistent, thorough and timely with delivery. I was forced by Blue Shield of California to switch to accredo - Accredo is hands down the worst business i have encountered to date. Note this review swings from 1-4 stars. I use this delivery service because it comes with blue cross blue shield of SC, and it comes with free delivery. Last medication I got came rather quickly. The other medication- and I had to sign on to the website to see this, isn't going to be filled until June 13. I don't like that they use AI because they have called and left a voicemail, and the voicemail sounded like this: this message is for Jacqueline-- is this Jacqueline press 1 if yes- it's a voicemail! Can't it just say: problem with medication refill or something? Also had a question about my medication,Called the pharmacy end on Saturday May 16 2026-- the phone automatically connects to an AI, and then, talking to it, and it doesn't understand me. Now Sometimes I can sound like a child, maybe that don't help, but, then I was getting frustrated because it couldn't understand me, and it took forever to get ahold of the person. But imagine being already stressed about something, and getting more stressed because it don't understand you. Finally got ahold of a pharmacist and asked my questions, now had a lot of questions- but it was about the medicine i got and was prescribed. Pharmacist did answer them, but seemed nasty on "when it's not taken as prescribed." Also said contridicting information regarding regular claritin verses prescription allergy meds. Now, not that I want to, but watch me call again and get a different answer, or ask at a different pharmacist from another company. I harbor a deep resentment toward being forced to use Optum RX for my prescriptions. I've paid out-of-pocket for some medications just to avoid dealing with them, despite having insurance. That's how frustrating the experience has been. I rely on daily allergy medications that I am required to take, but because they fall into the same "drug class," Optum refused to ship them--even with my physician's approval. If my doctor prescribed them, wouldn't that mean he has already APPROVED them? Somebody make it make sense. What gives Optum the authority to question my doctors judgement? The customer service reps (or "advocates," as they are called) are clueless. Maybe 2 out of 10 actually know how to resolve an issue. Then there are the ones who have the audacity to add rudeness with their incompetency. There's almost always a confusing cycle: a prescription gets approved, processed, and then suddenly canceled or placed on hold for a reason that was supposedly already resolved. You can call three different times and literally get three different explanations as to what the problem is. I pay a fortune for PPO insurance and should be able to receive my prescriptions without the constant runaround. I cannot stand having to use this lousy "healthcare service company." I have proof it's all about big pharma/Insurance provider profits and not about the health of people who pay large premiums. 2 weeks now I been waiting for a prescription to be filled because of the game optumrx is playing. I needed a prior authorization as i was told by optumrx that my doctor did 15min after I hung up with optumrx on a Tuesday. I waited till next day called my pharmacy still nothing. Called optumrx to be told my dr didn't send (mind you he does hundreds a week) so I said put me on hold and call my doctor, they did and told me it will go through in 24hrs. Now on Thursday I got same issue and again was told no authorization was sent,I explained i was on hold when optumrx called and assured me it was received (I recorded the call by the way) only to be put on hold again as they called my doctor. Friday comes still nothing. Go through same thing to be told after weekend on Monday that the authorization was in but now they need medical records explaining why I was given the prescription for it to be processed. How about telling me and my doctor this on the first day of issue. Not to mention that i was on the same medication and they had all of my medical notes and authorizations for 6 months already. Only to say they don't have it on file, but I been getting the prescription already before a new one was called in. Now for the they don't care about anything but profit. If I get name brand instead of generic my copay is only $9 with a manufacturer discount coupon. The generic is 35$ they are giving me a tuff time about it and saying generic is cheaper (yes for the insurance company). I told them make my copay 9$ on generic then. Got no response. read more

They speak all about how they have their patients best interests at heart, and they can't even ship a medication that needs to be taken on a fixed specific date out in a timely fashion so that you can take your meds on time! I was switched to this company without choice, when my corporate team changed over as of January of this year. 2+ years on the same medication(s) and have never had as many problems as this company has given me in just the 4 months I have been stuck dealing with them! They can't even be honest about being useless and unable to do their jobs, because when I logged in to my account to find out why my medication hadn't arrived yesterday like I was assured it would, I see that they have it up that the order was processed on Thursday, which it wasn't because the useless employee on the other end refused to fill it, it wasn't ordered until Saturday... its now not going to be here until tomorrow! It looks as if I will have ongoing problems with delayed shipments of a particular medication. Optum had a question about the prescription and claimed the doctor's office won't return their calls. When the doctor's office reached out to them a second time, they still didn't ship the medication until I called them a third time. This is again happening with the refill. The customer service agents have been very nice and their ridiculous one-question survey always reflects the CS agent; it should seek feedback about the horrible service itself. The only reason I use Optum is because my insurance forces me to use it for maintenence medications. Disgraceful!!!!! read more

Switching to OptumRx was a bad choice. It's representatives are either unwilling to follow clear instructions or are unable to comprehend simple spoken English. I don't care which. I have no tolerance for incompetent behavior. I allocate $28 to prescription copays each month. That is not enough to fill each monthly refill that I am supposed to be taking. I fill those prescriptions that are most urgent first and if at least $6 of that $28 is left over then I can fill at least one more prescription. I have now clearly told OptumRx representatives "Do not fill a prescription unless I call you and tell you to," three times. I have now had to call Optum to tell them to cancel a refill that they had filled three times. Three times in under eighteen hours is unacceptable. No new prescriptions will be called in to OptumRx. All prescriptions that have have already been transferred there will be transferred out somewhere else. read more

Worst pharmacy experience ever, from day one. I seriously cannot believe this company is allowed to run so poorly. If I could give zero stars, I would. Despite the terrible customer service and lack of knowledge, this company has generated billions of dollars in revenue annually off the backs of hardworking individuals paying insanely high costs for premiums and copays. Which is absolutely disgusting. Terrible customer support. Every single representative gave me different out of pocket costs/estimates. Spent hours on the phone trying to request financial assistance for a high cost medication. Several assistance programs are advertised on the patient portal/website and not one representative had any idea of the programs advertised and despite several attempts to explain, I got nowhere. Spent countless hours over several weeks on the phone being connected to various different representatives who provided no valuable information, resolution, or resolve. Stick with your local pharmacy if you can because despite claiming cost saving prescriptions, it costs more for us to go through Optum. I would never recommend this pharmacy to anyone. Ever. I'm looking so forward to getting new insurance so I no longer have to deal with this terrible company! read more

My first experience with Optum Rx mail order prescription service My company switched to Optum Rx for Prescriptions that requires subscribers to use mail order service or risk not being covered for meds. On Jan 1 2026, the first day of availability, I went onto Optum Rx and created an account for me and my wife.  I added our HSA card to the payment section for future use.  In February I went onto Optum Rx to order refills for me and my wife. The medications listed for both me and my wife were the brand names not the generic.  (that's an issue)  Knowing the laws in my state require generic medications to be dispensed unless the doctor specifically requests brand name, I went ahead and ordered refills as they appeared on Optum Rx. That's when I discovered I had to order my meds separately from my wife's.  There would be two orders, two charges on my card, and two shipments.  This business process is extremely wasteful and bad for the environment.  Note that me and my wife had previously given permission for each other to discuss and/or order each others prescriptions, and the agent verified that these permissions were on file when I later called. As I reached the end of the ordering process for my meds, I was presented with a message telling me there is a problem with my order and I had to call Optum Rx. I went through the same ordering process for my wife's meds and it ended with the same message about some problem with the order and to call. At this point I was thinking maybe these were just start-up issues.  It's a new service for my company and large contract for Optum Rx.  There might be a wrinkle or two getting it started. So I called and navigated an automated menu that wasn't the least bit efficient.  I didn't use a stopwatch but I say after about two minutes of answering questions I just started answering "agent", or "representative", to the prompts.  It took a few tries but it started routing me to an agent.  Then it tried directing me back to the endless question loop again.  My persistence paid off as it finally connected me to an agent. After talking with the agent I found out that they could see my orders but they were waiting for me to call and give them authorization for the payment.  I had already authorized the method of payment when checking out so I asked why I had to authorize it again. He told me it was because I am not on auto-refill.  The only way to avoid having to call, to authorize payment each time I want to refill, is to choose auto-refill. I don't want to be on auto-refill and should not be forced to choose that option.  I've had experience with both Caremark and Express Scripts auto-refill programs.  I have no reason to expect anything different with Optum Rx especially considering how well things are starting out with the antiquated processes and all. My wife started a new medication.  It's uncertain whether or not she will continue on this medication.  Ten days on the new medication and we already received a letter that sounds like if we don't use mail order we might not be covered for this in the future.  We don't even know yet if it will become a maintenance drug. That was my first experience with Optum Rx, the new mail order prescription company that does not have brick and mortar retail locations and depends solely on mail order prescriptions to make money.  It's not surprising they require users to order through them as opposed to losing business to CVS and Walgreens etc. Lets hope it gets rolling without a bunch of hiccups but it's not looking good. read more

My mother's chemo refill was supposed to have been delivered today Friday. I received two phone calls from Optum and a text message at 2:00 p.m. letting me know that the prescription was on its way to be delivered to my address. By 4:30 when it wasn't delivered I spent about half an hour talking to the representatives for them to let me know that unfortunately they couldn't get anyone to deliver it. I spoke with an Optum oncology pharmacy specialist and now they're telling me that her medication won't be delivered until Monday morning. I have had previous difficulty and miscommunication with this Pharmacy and I am beyond upset that had I not proactively called to follow up on the order I would not know that the delivery was canceled. So now because of this my mother will lapse 3 days in her doses. They are unreliable and do not recommend them to anyone. read more

Horrible experience with Optum. I am set up for autofill for a monthly mail-order prescription delivery, but it never seems to happen without a problem and a waste of time. They give different reasons for why the medicine hasn't shipped....payment issue, dr authorization, waiting for approval on their end, etc., but none of them are ever accurate, and you can't get a straight answer. It's just a circus and a waste of time. Dr has to send in prior auth multiple times, even though it's been sent with no end date. Getting through Optum's IVR is a total joke. Also, I agreed to the IVR to stay on the line to take their survey, but clearly the agent knew I was unhappy, so it never sent me through to the survey like they said it would. Overall, you just cannot rely on this company for an easy way to get regular refills. Super frustrating! read more

For years, I was shuttled from using a local pharmacy to various mail Rx providers, including Merck, CVS and OptumRx. OptumRx was the best; reliable, and when I had any problem I received fast genuine help from a representative. The absolute worst was CVS-- never once did they get any prescriptions right. Whether picking up locally or by mail order, I received wrong meds, miscounts, prescriptions that were "put on hold" because they were duplicated (no, they were two meds needed for the same thyroid deficiency)-- and they did not notify me of that, had to find out the hard way, when it never showed up! Merck was the middle-- problems rare, but difficult to resolve. read more

Honestly the worst pharmacy in the history of pharmacies. I had to cut a dose in half for two weeks because they said insurance would not fill it till a certain date. My doctor called her staff called and I did a dozen times. Then I call my insurance and have them on the line. And they said there was an override they could have used weeks ago and I would not have had to do that.... Incompetence runs rampant there. Finally I refill the right dose. They process the order. It gets put on hold. I get a supervisor on the line who promises it will ship. Forgot to mention they have several profiles for me and 6 months ago I was told they would merge them. They have not so I cannot view order status. So I chat to just be logged out before someone can help. So I call and am told it didn't ship and will be here by the 22nd when I was promised it would be here today the 16th. I now will miss my dose. Also they auto refill things you tell them you got elsewhere and not to fill at all because they were out of stock and they do not get your permission and just charge you. Even though you told them to take it off auto refill 5 times. And to make notes in your profile. They do not take notes. They are the most incompetent pharmacy I have ever dealt with. I wish I had a better pharmacy option with my insurance because it's god awful and would not wish this service on my worst enemy. read more

I call Optum to find out why my credit card payment for $95 has not been applied and still shows open I am told that there are two charges, one in 2015 and one in 2016 both for $45, that are past due. first of all, I explained to him that that does not add up to $95. They don't care. They don't have to have anything make sense. They ship things you don't want. They over ship. For close to three years, my father had this service due to a change in insurance coverage. We were very pleased how the RX mail service worked. There was a time something did not get mailed, and they mailed it very quickly once I placed a call. I think the mishap was due to the med being new, and dad failed to have it set up as recurring. His pharmacy was 22 miles away, so finally getting his meds via mail was outstanding. I was compelled to write this review after dealing with Laura, a customer service rep. Dad recently passed, and I spent my morning making business calls on his behalf. Laura with Optum RX was just so sweet and respectful. She seemed to have genuine empathy for me and my situation. I appreciated her compassion and being so personable when I truly needed a friendly voice on the phone. read more

Absolutely horrendous service. They never filled on time, and a few times just never delivered my prescription at all. Claimed that it was never claimed by me... I live and work from home where these mysterious "deliveries" were happening. I never received any phone calls from them, they just decided to refrain from delivering a very important medication. Anytime I called "customer service" I get someone who is incompetent and is definitely NOT local. I am put on hold about 4-6 times each phone call, and the call once "dropped" 3 times in one evening trying to resolve an issue with my prescription not being delivered. My wife has been using Optum mail order rx services for 3 years now. The service used to be reliable but now, every time she orders her Rx's they screw up the order and deliver the Rx way too late and she runs out of medicine. She even talks to a live person after placing the order and gets a confirmation number and they still don't deliver her maintenance medications on time.. IT IS NEGLIGENCE PURE AND SIMPLE. They should be fined and be subject to administrative investigation by the appropriate governing entities or licensing bureaus. This Indian woman on the phone was beyond rude, not helping or giving me the number of her supervisor. The woman was quite literally yelling at me over the phone. Working in sales, I've NEVER in my life yelled at a customer. It's already frustrating that I have endometriosis and will have to pay an arm and a leg for the depo provera shot to hopefully help with the pain, but for someone who's supposed to be helping me, do the complete opposite and go out of her way to make the interaction miserable I am pissed.
