I have horrible vision and usually kind of dread eye doctor apts. In the past I've had very pessimistic doctors who are just like "here have fun with your ill-fitting contacts and coke-bottle glasses". Optique was a breath of fresh air. The staff is incredibly kind, the ladies who help with glasses are very informed and VERY patient, haha! There's lots of great stuff to choose from. The doctor I saw, Dr.Z, was also kind and to the point. The whole appointment was very quick (although not rushed, just efficient) and informative. The office is beautiful - albeit a bit tricky to find - and everything seems clean, up-to-date and well cared for. I have been wearing glasses since I was a tiny tot. Always went to tso. Because let's face it. If you were born and raised in austin, that's where you went. I grew tired of tso. Long waits, mean staff, even worse-- their waiting area. When we switched vision plans, this place popped up. I called, was able to get my kid scheduled in quickly. Great experience. Outrageous prices on frames and poor patient service. The front desk receptionists were helpful, polite, and great to work with but unfortunately I didn't have as pleasant of an experience during the exam. I felt rushed and just like another number. We moved to Austin almost 3 years ago and I have been to several eye doctors searching for someone with the qualities of Dr Rhodes and her staff. This has been my optometrist since i moved downtown 4 years ago. I always have a great experience and great high end glasses options that stand out in the workplace. Every member of the staff gives 5 star service. Some boutique locations will bug the heck out of you and up sell you, but it is not the case here. If you need help, they are right with you, but if you are sorting through which frames fit you best, they will let you be. I'd recommend them to anyone downtown. read more

fantastic selection of frames, and a super staff optique has. i went to several places around Austin, and none of them could even get near the quality of optique. in addition, optique helped me select my frame, which was a heroic feat in itself. they had my glasses done incredibly fast. afterward, they worked with me for months (!!!) to perfectly adjust my frame. finally, they have a 1yr warranty on the lenses, which came in handy after i accidentally scratched the lenses. all in all, excellent store. read more

Very friendly, even with our 4 year old. They fixed a screw in our glasses, which has been fixed 2 other time by other shops. He took time to explain why the screws keep falling out (turns out we really need to send these back to manufacturer. Didn't charge us anything for about 10-15 minutes of his repair time. I had my first appointment this spring with Dr. Rhodes and it was a perfectly pleasant and professional experience. The office is sparklingly clean and modern, the receptionist/assistant was very friendly and carried out the eye measurements before I saw the doctor and was very efficient and competent. Dr. Rhodes was friendly and spent as much time with me as I needed, and there was no feeling of being rushed or impatient. I liked the option of the extra test (I don't recall the name) that they recommended, which wasn't an option at my previous optometrist I saw a year prior. As for the frames, there is an awesome selection of really cool and stylish frames, including a great selection of lower-priced frames from SALT, a brand I hadn't seen before but I loved all of them. My prescription came in early and they were perfect. Last year I wanted to visit this optometrist but my insurance wasn't adequate at the time, but the receptionist still took a lot of time explaining to me their rates and trying to make an appointment for me. A year later, she was still there and was so helpful again. She even spent a good 20 minutes fixing some bent-out-of-shape sunglasses (which I had not purchased there) for me. I only wish they had later hours at least one day a week or a Saturday exam time, although I know this is pretty standard for the profession, but it would be more convenient for me as I don't work in the downtown area. I couldn't be happier with the service and my new glasses. read more

Do your research! This place charges outrageous amounts for everything. The doctor and staff are friendly enough and the office is beautiful. The frames offered are nothing special. I have insurance, GOOD insurance and I still walked out with a bill of $150 and that was with only one box of contacts. Definitely will not be returning for next years eye exam. read more

My eye doc is a good guy, but was having optician turnover issues in his office and although he tried, he didn't have the proper optician skills to measure properly for my first ever progressives on rimless frames. Which resulted in a nightmare experience of frustration after the lenses came in messed up twice with slow lab turnaround. I found Bryan at Optique and he remedied the situation. After a detailed measuring process, he and his lab produced lenses that work great and the progressives experience is now going well. He is a calm voice of reason at all times, with a high level of expertise. I had used another high-end glasses shop in town ten years ago, and although they did good work back then on my single vision glasses, when it came to the progressives lenses discussion and recommendations, their feedback left me with more questions than answers. I definitely recommend Optique, they know what they're doing when it comes to progressives, and their lab turnaround time is impressive. read more

My experience with this business has been subpar. From my exam all the way through simple follow ups weeks later I felt very much like a number rather than a person. The exam itself was extremely rushed, and quite oddly started with someone who was not the doctor running through a series of things with me that are part of the eye exam at other optometrists I've been to, before the doctor came in and rushed through the actual exam. I don't know why a doctor didn't handle all of the points of the exam, because that's what I'm paying for, nor do I understand why the doctor was so rushed to get me out of there. The only reason I can think of is that this is a volume business, where they try to squeeze as many people in there as possible in a day. At no point was it explained to me what was happening, or why someone other than a doctor was testing my vision. I felt like a nuisance asking basic follow up questions because they seemed so short on time. I also wasn't confident that my exam was thorough, because it was so rushed. In subsequent interactions with this business such as ordering lenses, etc, I have experienced the same behavior and treatment, and felt very much like a nuisance rather than a paying customer. I will not be returning to this location and when asked for referrals for eye exams in the Austin area, I will not be referring people here. Also, I was charged for services I did not consent to, and it was not until I was paying for my exam and noticed that the fee charged was much higher than my copay that I even became aware of these extra things. Overall, not a place I feel good about bringing my business to in a city where there are so many other options. read more

Great experience at Optique today. Last year I switched from another optometrist that I really liked but I wanted more stylish frames that would still be covered by my Davis Vision plan. Optique has everything - great doctors, opticians, modern frames, and modern store interior. I've seen both Dr. Z and Dr. Bailey who gave great advice about lasik and my now aging eyes since I hit the big 4-0. Ali Robatjazi has helped me on multiple occasions and is a terrific optician as well as very personable. He is helpful in selecting frames that accomplish what you want and look great. He's quick at figuring out what looks good or bad, and he's spot on. Today I got both sunglasses and glasses. Ali pointed me toward black frames that I thought might be too dark but they look perfect. Completely different than my other pair so I'm excited I have more options in the mornings! I went to Optique's new Seaholm office recently to have my eyes examined by Dr. Zemanovich. After the exam, I picked out the perfect frames ("Ava" by Barton Perreira) with excellent help from Nyssa. In the past I've had problems finding cute frames that are large enough for the progressive lenses I need, but Optique has many attractive frames to choose from. I couldn't be happier with my recent experience with Optique. First of all, they take my insurance when some places in town don't. Secondly, they were super friendly. I love that they're as paper free as they can be (in trying to be green they have you do everything online and scan in forms you have to complete that are laminated.) Dr. Rhodes and her staff took their time and answered all of my questions. They had this awesome machine that took the place of having to dialate your pupils (which I hate...I'd pay extra for that any time...) Great selection of frames (they were super helpful when I had like 15 I liked and helped me narrow it down). The frames came in quickly and the glasses are great (I can't believe how poorly I was seeing now that I have ones that actually work for me!) Great overall experience. I truly cannot say enough about how much I love Optique. Dr Zemanovich was very helpful and answered all of my ridiculous questions about my eyesight. All of the testing is very thorough and uses a lot of new technology to pin point your prescription. The staff makes you feel incredibly comfortable. Through my frame/lens buying process, the entire staff was constantly helpful. Tiffany in particular helped me fit the right frames to my face over the course of two months, we tried on so many pairs, and she was helping me size them, making sure my eyelashes wouldn't hit the lens, making sure my cheeks didn't hit the bottoms of frames. Seriously, the most patient kind people I've ever worked with! I ended up getting pretty much the most perfect pair of glasses I've ever had, perfectly adjusted, so comfortable, and the whole experience start to finish taught me that Optique really cares that their clients are just..extremely satisfied with the whole process. My visit to Optique was perfect in every way. From the ease of making the appointment (even as a new patient), to the beyond friendly staff, and using my insurance to purchase contacts. Parking was simple and they validate up to an hour. You are greeted with a drink of your choice: cold brew coffee, topo, beer, or wine! I started going to Optique because they are very conveniently located. I continue going to Optique because they do a very good job. I have a condition in my right eye that was misdiagnosed by my previous optometrist, causing me to waste a few hundred dollars on useless treatment with no improvement. Fortunately this had no impact on eye health or long term prognosis. Dr. Z quickly dismissed the original diagnosis and identified what was actually going on, then educated me on the progression and future treatment. Service has always been good, accurate, and friendly. It is possible to spend quite a lot of money here. And I am quite happy to have done so and thus acquired the lightest weight best fitting glasses I have ever owned. They also have many less expensive options that are probably almost as lightweight and I'm sure can fit quite well. It was worth it to me to go with the high end but I was offered many choices (I'm emphasizing this because there's a highlighted negative review that claims the opposite experience.) I managed to catch the end of a bike handlebar right between my eyes one day. The glasses survived with no damage other than not fitting quite so well as they used to. I dropped by Optique one day and they quickly improved the fit. Over time I decided the fit still wasn't quite what it used so I asked them to try again. This time it's perfect again, if not indeed even better than when I first got the glasses. (And I spent a few extra words on this because of a negative review that claims the opposite.) The overall rating for Optique indicates that they don't need my defense, but there are two longwinded hyperbolic negative reviews here that for some reason Yelp places near the top of the list of reviews and I have to respond to them. I've had run-ins with Yelp in the past about their penchant for highlighting very negative reviews for a business that has overall excellent ratings, and I don't really know what Yelp thinks they're accomplishing by this. For that business I could say for certain that the negative reviews were nearly completely inaccurate. I cannot be sure of this for the two cases I'm talking about for Optique but I can say that they use a great many words when far fewer would do, indicating to me an overly emotional response to their perceived slights. Both make gross generalizations about how Optique operates and what everyone else on the planet should therefore think about them. One of them is so different from my experience that to me it reads as invented. It claims a poor exam with an incorrect result; I've already mentioned my experience of having someone else's incorrect diagnosis corrected. It claims no email or phone response; this the opposite of my experience, and you might try calling more than once ... or leaving a message. It also claims an inability to make adjustments, which as I've also mentioned is the opposite of my experience. Must have been a really bad day at Optique, or in the author's imagination. read more

When I arrived on site, there was hardly a 5 minute wait before I saw the doctor and got squared away with new RX and contacts for the year.
