OK so this review is specific to corporate company policy. First I have had SuddenLink for a year and basically the internet and TV have been fine without the issues discussed by others. Please note that I live in a 1100 sq foot house so signal strength is not a concern. So here is why this review. Over the weekend, the mini TiVO stopped working and I got a "blue" screen that said there was no software. Ok, read online that this particular model has a "chip" issue. Not a big deal pick a new one up on Saturday. First frustration: Suddenlink only has 1 office and they are not open on the weekend at all. Ok fine I will go on Monday: Second frustration: Monday at store (nice but useless rep) says that "we do not have any equipment at this store so a tech has to come to your house" and "if it is anything but the TiVO we charge $60 bucks". So first, I did not need a tech, I needed a new box!!! Ask if they could mail a box to me? Nope a tech is the only option!! 3rd frustration: I decided that I wanted a second TiVO box when the tech comes, get told "nope that is a separate appointment". Really!!!! So at the point, I ask about buying my own TiVo and got told that was fine but I had to pay a $250 nonrefundable price for the Suddenlink "chip". So I said, cancel the extra TiVo and have the tech come out and give me a new box. So my frustration and question is: Why do you even have an office in Georgetown? It seems all they are allowed to do by cooperate is to take money and schedule the tech. Well guess what, there is an app! for that. read more

The salesperson lied about the services offered and walked me through purchasing fiber internet for my home. When I checked the installed service through the MyOptimum app, I discovered the tech had installed cable instead of fiber internet. Upon calling the support channel to determine how to remedy the mistake, their support team informed me that there was no record indicating I had purchased fiber from them and additionally that fiber was not offered in my area at all. The team members I interacted with afterwards all worked to help me close out my account and informed me of what was needed to get a refund of my purchase as I was still in the money-back guarantee period. read more

when I signed up with this company I was assured a monthly charge of $40 a month locked in for two years. from day one I have been charged $60. I have been in contact with the sales person who made this guarantee and he even spoke to his supervisor (supposedly) and assured me it was taken care of. I logged into my account and my last bill reflected the corrected amount of $40 but they took $60 out of my account. I can't do business wi th a company that can't keep their word. This is not a review of the store; it is a review of the corporation's horrible, frustrating customer support. Adding insult to injury, was its recent price increase of $15/month + tax, the justification of which was: "We're investing in what matters to you: speed, coverage, and reliability." (to support these upgrades). About a month ago, I tried to access my video on demand feature to catch up on some programs I missed. Neither channel for activating VOD worked, one gave an error code; the other no explanation other than "unable to process you request, contact customer service at ------" I called and after a long wait I was told that there was an area problem and Optimum was working on it. A week later I tried again and was told the problem was at my house and a technician was scheduled for a few days hence. Then I received a phone call that the service call would be cancelled because the problem was an area outage, which Optimum was working on. After another long wait w/o VOD service, I called customer service again. This time I was told the problem was that the package I have does not include VOD, which I could get if I bought a more expensive package (he also told me he could cut the cost if I bought Optimum's mobile phone service). Then I received a survey asking for a rating of the service rep and whether the matter was resolved. I replied 0 rating, no resolution. A customer team rep then called and the phone call disconnected as soon as I started to tell her about the siuation. Finally, today I called again and was promised an answer; I was transferred and had to go through the whole identification protocol again, as if it was a new call, and the rep wanted me to discinnect my cable box etc. This was after a previous rep confirmed it was a system issue , but could not tell me when. Then I got another call, again like it was a brand new issue. I know this sounds crazy, but today;s encounter ran close to two hours, with numerous call from various reps, all asking for the my account information. I've had a horrible experience with Optimum. My internet went down on Sept 4 and I reported it the next day. A technician finally came on Sept 7, swapped the modem, and left without confirming it worked. When I called him back, he said he had four other jobs and my address was 40 minutes away from his next one, so he couldn't stay. I'm now stuck waiting until Sept 9 for another technician -- almost a full week without service. Optimum should not put productivity over people, whether customers or employees. After 10+ years we needed to cancel our service. After one hour of listening to offers from customer retentions and politely saying no thank you, we believed Optimum had cancelled our account as requested. We even received an email regarding the return of our modem. Then we got a call from Robert Trupin also an Optimum retention person, and after politely telling him no thank you to his several offers we later attempted to return our modem to a local store who informed us our account was still active and they could not take our equipment. It seems Robert signed us up without our permission. We then called Robert's office and spoke to Pam, who understood the issue but said she could only have a supervisor call us back. Four hours later we called her back and were on hold for over 45 min not having been able to speak to anyone when I started this review. So, the local store will not take our modem, but the email says if we do not return it, we will be charged $130. We are leaving Optimum due to the constant unannounced fee increases. Of course, if you call and complain you can get a better deal, for a while. No way to run a business or treat your customers. I am now about to reach being on hold for an hour listening to "We apologize for the delay; the next available agent will assist you." read more

I don't due this much but I have had service with Optimum for over 3 years it goes down once a month they have no service technicians only contractors and never fix anything if you call you get the run around so I gave up moved to another company and they refuse to cancel my service or send me a box for the equipment. I call and try to cancel get the run around or the department is closed. I pay paid for 1gig and I never get over 500 that's half of what I pay for. Do not use them avoid at all cost. FYI if a technician comes out they charge you no matter what. read more

I have been using Optimum since August of 2025 only because it's the only cable company that provides service where I live. I can unequivocally say, I have never had a worse experience with a cable company. Their stream box is completely flawed. On a daily basis, the stream box loses it's signal and requires a reboot. On average I go through this process 4 to 5 times a day. And this is after changing my stream box twice and adding an extender (that I have to pay an extra $10 a month for). Additionally, their customer service is atrocious. All their technical support staff are off shore and despite being very polite they are completely ineffective in solving any issue. Lastly, whenever I've made an appointment for a technician to come to my home, I get a daily call asking me if the problem is resolved with the intention of cancelling the appointment. I can only hope that a different cable company eventually offers service in my area, because I will be the first customer to switch over. read more

I had optimum internet for less than a week due to its poor connectivity. Took the equipment to optimum store to return equipment but won't cancel or close your account. Instead I was told to call a disconnect number where I was placed in a hold cue for an hour and a half. I opted for the call back and after an hour I received a call that disconnected. When the tech installed my service i asked him how optimum was since I never heard of them or used before. He said, the wifi is good but the customer service is horrible, he got one right. Customer service overall is subpar. The only reason I signed up with them is because they are the only option in my neighborhood. I signed up under a promotion which included free installation and a $200 MasterCard or Visa gift card. They charged me for installation and only credited my account after I reached out a month or so later. Regarding the gift card, I was sent an email to "choose" my gift, the wrong card was sent, I've called 10+ times to get this resolved and they refuse. A simply case of bait and switch x 2. We signed up because of the incentive gift card. We decided to switch to AT&T because the service was not great both talking to people and internet at the house. We would randomly have outages. It would be out until I got on the chat and told them there was an outage. Sometimes, it would be fixed right after, other times it would take a while. No report or anything. The outage map never said there was an outage and when I called, they could not give an eta. One time I called and they said 24-48 hours which is a joke. We decided to switch because of the outages but I wanted to try and get my incentive before service was cut off. With no missed or late payments. The guy said I would not be getting the incentive with no explanation as to why. Don't use optimum unless it is your only option. read more

This is the single worst company I have ever had the displeasure of doing business with. I am not being hyperbolic when I say that. They are literally the worst. One star is eleven too many. One star implies there's something a value here. There's not. As of this writing (7/1) I have been without internet service for 120 hours. On 6/26 a technician working on an issue for my neighbor severed our fiber line and gave "my" spot on the switch to them to solve their issue. This is not speculation on my part, this was told to me directly by the line tech that came out to drop a new line to my house on 6/28. To add insult to injury, the technician that severed our line on 6/26 left the severed fiber and other trash strewn across my yard and property. Dropping the new line on 6/28 did not resolve our problem because there is an issue with Optimum's infrastructure coming into our neighborhood. This, again, is not speculation on my part, this was told to me directly by the line technician. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to work out that the technician that severed our line on 6/26 did so because it was easier for him than actually fixing Optimum's overarching infrastructure issue. Our sub-division is only three years old, so it's not as if they're dealing with aging lines that they inherited from a prior telecom or ISP. Over the course of roughly a dozen calls we have been given conflicting information as to whether Optimum even has record of there being an issue or when we can expect this to resolved. We have been told it would be resolved on 6/28. Next we were told it would be repaired overnight between 6/28-6/29. Then we were given a literal guarantee from a representative at Optimum's Shared Services department that it would resolved by 8pm 6/29 (if you've made it this far, you've probably figured out that this "guarantee" was, in fact, not an actual guarantee). Next we were told it would be resolved "within 24 hours" which would've been 6/30. After that we were "assured" by Shared Services that our service will be restored on 7/1. I think you can see where this is going. I wonder what they'll tell me when I call tomorrow...? Of course that's if they even acknowledge that there's an issue to begin with. In most of our calls to Optimum's customer service, they don't see that there's an issue or that there is any scheduled work to be done to restore our service at all. But have we tried power cycling our modem? (Yes -- about fifty thousand times, but sure, I'll try it *again.*). And I think the worst part of this is almost no one at the company even acknowledges the severity of this situation for a person that is WFH. Many of the CSR we've spoken to have acted like we're throwing a tantrum over not being able to watch Netflix or connect to social media, when the fact is many people still depend on their internet connection for their livelihood, and an extended outage -- through no fault of our own -- is a significant burden. How many people can afford to burn through a week or more of sick time or PTO at the drop of a hat? And that just covers our current nightmare with this company. Outages or drops in service are routine, including outages that last the entire day. We NEVER approach the speeds we are paying for. The modem needs to be restarted every few days. I get Optimum has a pseudo monopoly over a lot of this area of WilCo, so you may not have a choice in ISPs. I also know that everyone always hates their provider, that's just part of life. But I've been with AT&T, I've been with Spectrum/Time Warner. I've been with Astound back when it was still Grande. I would take any of those companies, in a heartbeat, if I could over Optimum. So if you have a choice, don't make it these guys. For your own sake. EDIT (7/5): After filing a complaint with the FCC, we received a call today from Executive Customer Relations who was surprised to see we were "still having trouble" with our internet because the ticket shows as resolved on 6/30. We literally have 8 calls into Optimum's Shared Services department since the 30th complaining that our internet is still down (so more than just "having trouble") that are apparently not being notated on our account or on the ticket. He scheduled a new appointment for us with the Field Team, and told us somebody would be in touch with us today. Of course, like the previous nine days of this debacle where we were promised a call back from a supervisor, nobody called us back. TLDR: Optimum tech severed our fiber line on 6/26. Was told service would be restored on 6/28. Then 6/29. Then 6/30. Then 7/1. Then between 7/9-7/16. An FCC complaint revealed our ticket was marked as resolved on 6/30, and now we have to wait until 7/10 for the field team to come back out to our house to start over. Unreal. read more

Optimum is an ironic name for a company that does so little. I only use Optimum for Internet. In the old Suddenlink days I occasionally had a problem, but it was usually resolved quickly. Optimum's biggest drawback is that their customer service is absolutely terrible. It's almost impossible to find assistance if you need it and when you do manage to connect through chat (good luck with the phone or finding it on the website) it is cumbersome and rarely resolves the problem. The representative often tries to blame my router or my computer for problems caused at the Optimum end. It would at least be honest if they just said, "We can't do that.", but they prefer to send a customer down a rabbit hole of "fixing" the problem at the customer end. I agree with other reviewers that the only reason this company survives is the lack of competitors in the area. Reliable internet and Optimum should not be spoken in the same sentence. We've had spotty service, sometimes even full drops for four months. Multiple techs have come out to see channels dropping and multiple replacement routers. Optimum does nothing to make this right except raise my rates to over $100, for service that's not worth $25 Now, I just had another tech come out and tell me they have seven open tickets in our neighborhood sitting with the maintenance team. Apparently, nobody internally talks to each other and nobody knows if it's even being fixed. I had to get Verizon wireless setup just to have reliable service, even at a slower speed. The actual service provider is less than Optimum, and aside from one clearly English speaking associate, nobody there actually cares about solving problems. My internet has been horrible for the entire year, but that's not why I am leaving this review. I'm moving next week and just recently canceled my optimum service. Not even an hour after canceling, I started to conveniently have the slowest internet I've ever experienced. I gave them the benefit of the doubt at first and called them. I explained the situation including the suspicious timing of my issue and emphasized that I was NOT looking to renew my service. After I said this, customer service couldn't have cared less about my issue and would not stop trying to sell me on a new plan after I REPEATEDLY TOLD THEM NOT TO. *****He then proceeded to explicitly tell me that they would only help me fix my internet problem if I renewed my service with him*****. I immediately hung up on him. They wouldn't stop calling me back and after the sixth time I answered. After realizing I was having the same problem, I hung up. ***UPDATE : 12-14-2020**** By the grace of God I now have internet. Albert was able to help me sort through a lot of this mess. It was apparent while navigating through their customer service experience that Suddenlink hires a lot of contractors and it's just a crap shot who you're going to get. You get some techs that will flag a job as unserviceable and just move on while some that will actually come and check to see if they can do the installation. Albert was able to help me sort through a lot of this and get me set up but he had to fight through a sea of incompetent people to actually do it. ----------------------------- This is probably the worst Internet Service Provider I've ever worked with across multiple states and cities. I'm currently in Santa Rita Ranch in a new build. I've called in 1 month ahead of time and spoke with Albert Chilot and was ensured that we'd be good to go for my move in on December 7th. On move in day, the contractors told me that they would be unable to set up internet for inside my house until the fiber is set up outside. I contacted Albert and asked him to help me resolve the issue. He told me he'll have someone set up fiber outside on Wednesday December 9 and that I'll have an appointment from 8am-11am on December 10 to set up my internet inside the house. On Thursday December 10th, I called into the customer service line to electronically confirm that I had an 8am - 11am appointment window to set up my internet. The machine was able to confirm for me I indeed had a window at that time. At 11:45am I called customer support because nobody has showed up. They told me my appointment today was to set up fiber outside the house and the window was from 10am-8pm (wtf???). I told them I called into the customer service line and the machine even confirmed my 8am appointment and she basically gave me a shrug over the phone. I hung up and called Albert after, - no pick up. I texted him, no response. I called back to talk to a customer service rep and explained the situation and he put me on hold multiple times saying he's talking to dispatch to get it taken care of. On the final time he got back to me he said he needs 30 minutes to contact the dispatch people and he'll call me back. 2 hours later : no response. I called Albert multiple times until I finally got a response and he said he'll look into it. Got it 1 hour later and he said that he doesn't know what happened but they cancelled my internet set up today because fiber wasn't set up outside. I asked him why and he has no clue. I asked him what he intends on doing about the fact that I lost our on one weeks pay because I haven't been able to work and have not gotten a response. It's now 6:40pm on December 10th and here we are, still no internet and still no finish line in sight. To sum it all up: -All customer service representatives do their best to just get you off the phone and that's it. Don't ever expect a call back from them. Ever. -If you have a service date for internet installation don't expect to actually get it set up for about 2 weeks. -nobody has any idea wtf is going on. read more
