I have heard from a un-named person ( a neighbor the other day that he was not happy with Optimum. I didn't say anything and his reasons seemed vague. However my experiences for the past year with Optimum have been quite good. They are polite and professional; also very prompt in solving any problems that come up. The price isn't bad either Almost 135 stations pus Internet with a really good fast connection for under 100.00. Yes I know we can all stream. I see your point with that but I happen to like the stations given that are very entertaining and educational. No I am not affiliated with Optimum in any way as sales or employee. Long story short, customer service made a massive mistake with my account. My internet went from $60 a month to $110 a month. I am disabled, and was told I had to go down to the office to clear it up. I get to the office, the girl at the counter has attitude before she even offered any help. I explained my situation, she gets defensive and tells me that she didn't do it to me. Customer service did. I proceeded to tell her, that it is her job to fix it. She said she's trying her best but she isn't the one that made the mistake. I asked her why she's getting defensive and rude? She was writing something on a piece of paper, she proceeded to rip up the piece of paper, and throw it at me. I am obviously upset, I asked to speak to the manager, and the guy at the counter tells me his manager as at lunch and told me to leave. I was absolutely shocked and flabbergasted at how quickly everything escalated. The thing that really gets me, is that I didn't even need to go down to the office. I was told that customer service wasted my time and gave me the wrong information, when I was asking well why would they do that? That is when the girl started getting defensive and had a meltdown at the counter. The manager came out, like 2 seconds after the guy said that he wasn't in the office. He lied and said that he was at lunch when he was actually sitting there listening to the whole thing! The manager came out with an attitude, and told me that the girl at the counter was giving me the wrong information!! So pretty much if I would have questioned her, I would have been sent out of the office with a bigger headache. It is blatantly obvious that people at this establishment hate their job. Hire people that don't lie. So I wrote a review about Optimum already..... here's an update. Tuesday I got a call from Victor in Canada, regarding the issues I have regarding Optimum. He read in comments I had Internet disconnected because I was moving, another lie. I told him the truth, Gregory Daniels lied to me about the SPECIAL and I was charged more. So Victor said, let's fix this..... we'll give you the $25 dollar a month for 5 years special AND, we'll give you the first 3 months free. Again, if it sounds too good to be true. So I said great.....send me an email explaining the new plan and I will ok that.....but I told Victor I want an email, proof of the plan. Victor said he will do that right away. Optimum has predatory business practices which I find distasteful and unethical. I compared bills with about 1/2 dozen of my friends. Each of us was paying a different amount for the exact same services, one was 1/2 the price I was paying. When canceling service they do not listen to you and continue to try to change your mind even after multiple clear statements I was not interested. In addition to the unsavory business practices the service was mediocre, with frequent outages. I have switched providers and now pay 1/3 of what Optimum was charging. I recommend using a different provider. read more

This is not directed at the people who work at the Eureka office, they have been easy to work with and quick to help, this is focused on my experience with the online customer service which is based off-shore. On 9/10/25 I called Optimum Mobiles customer care to terminate service on my phone, works fine I just don't need it. After 10 minutes of arguing with them they didn't terminate my service and I hung up the phone. I went online and had an online conversation with a customer service representative and requested (clearly) that I wish my service to be terminated, they wouldn't accept that. On 9/11/25 I called optimum again and after 24 minutes of conversations with 3 different people, I finally was able to get my service terminated. The "Loyalty" team who I was finally connected with me kept arguing trivial issues, and I had to keep reminding them that I want my service disconnected, and not to argue. These people are flat out rude and are rather deceptive in trying to prolong the call so you hang up, or be pulled into an argument. Synopsis: If you only deal with the people at the Eureka office, you'll have a good experience like I did. But, for the cost of this service it's just not worth it. Optimum Mobile is a MVNO that uses the T-Mobile & AT&T wireless networks, both of which are not top tier in Humboldt County. There are better options out there such as Visible (PrePaid Verizon) and Mint Mobile (PrePaid on TMO and soon USCC). As someone who works in the wireless industry and who has touched a large number of the networks in Northern California, I do not recommend Optimum for the higher cost, and lower network priority access compared to some of their competitors. Furthermore as a California Consumer, we don't have to be treated like this. Not talking about the rudeness but when Optimum makes it procedurally hard to terminate service, the California Public Utilities may need to get involved. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! My elderly mother called to cancel her internet and somehow got signed up for a mobile number instead. We spent hours on the phone trying to cancel. Instead they moved us around to multiple agents, dropped the call, and kept starting the conversation over and over again. Instead of cancelling, they just kept offering us discounts, new phones, etc. They clearly have a game plan of preying on the elderly and making it near impossible for them to simply cancel services. read more

UPDATE 10-6-25 - In June, Optimum finally reduced my monthly internet bill to $50, but did not refund anything from the past ($300), and they said the rate would be "locked" for 12 months. Today, my rate increased to $60. Once again, Optimum has proven to be liars and scam artists. I'm surprised there hasn't been a class-action lawsuit yet. #scamcity ---------- UPDATE 6-4-25 - after another hour on the phone, it looks like maybe we finally have it sorted out. Dude, it shouldn't have to be this hard. No billing transparency - no documentation to show phone call history - this is suspect behavior. ---------- UPDATE 6-2-25 - we're still stuck in the wrong plan for now - but I've bought myself some peace of mind. We'll likely be cancelling all services, whatevs. ---------- UPDATE 5-28-25 - FINALLY got some credits to our account for being overcharged for several months. Now we have a credit that will give us a zero bill for a month. That's fine. Now is the issue of getting us on the correct plan, which, for some reason, she couldn't do. She keeps trying to get us on their mobile phone plan (no way ever) to give us better pricing. #extortion #cantmakethisup ------------ UPDATE 5-26-25 - FINALLY, after another 1.5 hours on the phone getting transferred around, they removed the $185 error from my account for a router that they said was LOST, but they charged us for it. It took over 45 minutes to resolve. The background noise was so loud the agent kept muting his phone. Nothing like listening to dead air, not knowing if I was still connected. I'm waiting for that new company to get their internet going in my area, then cutting ties with Optimum. Will scrap their cable service then, too. Not just because of the hassle over rates but because they keep cutting channels (the entire video on demand section is long gone). Going for the streaming services. Like many others, I'm very frustrated with the inaccurately-named Optimum. In late 2017, the nonprofit I work for moved from Arcata to Eureka. What was then called Suddenlink was able to take our established Arcata phone number and forward it to our newly established number in Eureka. We weren't forced to change our letterhead, the number on our website, or otherwise re-educate everyone who needs to contact us. However, last week we discovered that Optimum cancelled our original phone number without cause. Our bills have been paid on time, and no one from the business asked for any changes. I have been on the phone with Optimum several times to try to resolve this issue, and I have received several estimates of the time it would take for them to fix the issue. None of these deadlines have been met. Folks we do business with are still unable to connect with us using our Arcata-based number. The worst part of this is that since I reported this to Optimum, I have not received a call from them, providing a status report. That is ridiculous! Guess we'll move to a more reliable and responsive telecommunications/internet company. read more

After being a loyal customer for years. I moved out of State. I returned all my equipment and told them I no longer needed the service. Months after moving I have received bills still charging me. I have spoke to them a couple of times and have been told 2 different things. They turned me in to the collectors because I didn't pay them. I wasn't even in the same state. The absolute WORST. First of all, there is no way to contact the local store about local issues or needs. Our home Internet has been "disrupted" (aka NOT working) for the last four days. We have had to use our phone's data (and pay for extra data) in order to work from home and use our devices including our tv. I was on the phone for close to an hour with the stupid computer and then with a human who had me reset my modem/router multiple times and then finally told me to drive to Eureka to get a new modem. Again there is NO way to contact the store in Eureka to ask if they even have any modems for me to pick up or if the planned outages are to blame. Next day update: the human I spoke to (I had to Google to find out how to circumnavigate the stupid computer that answers all calls--more of my time) announced that actually there IS "ongoing maintenance" in our area that may be the cause of our outages. No idea when it started. No idea when it will end. Outages are supposed to be only during "less popular times" but that should mean in the middle of the night--not all day when so many people work from home. Next day update: After another frustrating day of trying to get some help, I talked to another call center "technician" who after another round of resets (ugh) said that clearly our equipment is the issue and not the planned outages. They then thankfully scheduled a service person to come to our house. What's irritating, however, is that I then I received a robotext and was asked to call so the robot could run some diagnostic testing on my equipment before the scheduled repair. Well, the new round of diagnostics turned out to be more resets (ugh) and then ended with the conclusion that we did indeed need service. Next day update: The very nice, professional service person stopped by and determined the problem is outside of my home (not my equipment--their equipment in the neighborhood). Repair crew hopefully will be here soon. I understand that equipment wears out and planned outages are necessary. My complaint here is about the stupid robots and unhelpful call centers. The business model is terrible. Why not employ local Hum Co humans to answer phones, diagnose situations, and schedule repairs? Our local computer repair shops do this amazingly well. A business model that saves a corporation money but ends up with a loss in customers or unhappy customers needs to be reevaluated. read more

Absolute worst, and most confusing service EVER.....all we wanted to do was CANCEL TIVO (at 300.00/month on a Social Security income) is beyond what I need. However we DID want to keep internet, phone - land line AND BASIC CABLE!!!! After 2+ hours talking to multiple agents, ( I am NOT judging the agent, I am judging the company) who apparently do not have English as their first language......either that or they appear to not understand until they wear you down to NOT cancel or buy another package!!! Additionally I was on the "Chat" with "someone"....and again, I received 3 different answers - which I was able to print out - each telling me a totally different answer.....the end result is "because the tech was ONLY sent out to "pick up" equipment he could NOT keep basic cable for us......he had all the necessary equipment with him, the trucks must be stocked with all the different types of equipment so the tech is able to handle any order - as he originally was going to do that...until he called the mighty office folks who told him "no, the subscriber can make an appointment to have those services restored".......will be looking for another internet, basic cable server today.....stay away from this company if at all possible. read more

Vero is in town, if you can get it, run to it. Their customer service is amazing and their deals are solid. If you want to stay with Optimum (for some reason) call and threaten to leave. They will offer you great deals to stay (they did me anyway). They really don't want to take no for an answer either. I always had trouble with Optimum reaching the back of the house and the garage. Like a lot of infrastructure services, if it works you barely think about it. Unfortunately, if you have something that needs attention Optimum is the WORST company I've ever dealt with. I spent well a huge amount of time trying to get Optimum Stream to work. After multiple equipment switches, tech visits, and support contacts I decided it was a buggy piece of garbage. It lead me to a streaming service that is cheaper and much better. Cancelling the cable led to a billing error. This took over an hour to get a credit. Now I'm on the third call to get the landline disconnected after they already told me it was disconnected. I just want to get rid of this horrible company and of course now they keep trying to sell me a cell phone. Unbelievably incompetent. read more

I am not reviewing the employees at the Eureka Optimum office, I'm reviewing the company and its practices. I have had cable & wifi for 7 years. At the end, for a two cable hookups snd a router, I was eventually paying over $300. I cut the cable and have been paying $100 for wifi. I have chosen to move my mobile service and internet to T-Mobile. To cancel Optimum (such an ironic name), it took me a week of calling customer service numbers and going into their office to be directed to the 888 cancellation number. I spoke with two men, 1st in India, 2nd in the US, both constantly making offer after offer to keep me as a customer. Really ugly hard selling, no matter how many times I said NO! I really hate this greedy company and its nasty business practices. Do yourself a favor and stay clear of them. read more

Everyday we have channels breaking up. It's not uncommon to have to reboot after losing our connection and missing shows we set to record. Tivo TV guide has significant errors everyday. Update # 5 Still no internet. Incompetence is the corporate Motto. Suddenlink sent a contractor that was not able to fix the problem, then said it was a suddenlink problem. Very enlightening. They now want to send tech #3 in 5 more days. No one I have spoken to cares that we don't have service and will take any responsibility to see that we get service. Update #4 Now the cable TV stations are not working and the automated phone tree hung up on me. It seems like they are doing this on purpose now. Who is in charge of this company? Update #3 I sent an email to the address the person told me contact yesterday. No response. No internet. There is no earlier appointment. Is there any customer service at this company? Update #2 My appointment for Saturday, which will be 11 days with no service, disappeared from the system. Only by me alerting the Facebook team that I still don't have service, did I find that out... . So far I am 6 days without internet. I have swapped routers twice. Been on the phone for over 5 hours with "customer service", chatted with 3 different live agents, had the tech come by and not fix it and now I am scheduled for another tech in 4 more days and the idea of escalating my appointment was to offer me an appointment a day later than that. I have unplugged and plugged in my router, read my Mac number and reported on blinking lights no less than 10 times. @suddenlink is not capable of delivering the service that is being paid for. Have internet and pay for 200+ mps But getting 80 ish. Had them come one to fix the wiring but still get low speeds. Apparently there is need for underground work to fix my connection. They say they will call me to set up a time. Well I am waiting. Their customer service sucks. They need a local number for a customer to get real information. On July 29th I took my remote into the Optimum store to get it replaced (as I had done two or three times before) they gave me another remote and a piece of paper on how to couple it with the box and TV which has always worked i n the past. I took it home attempted to to set it up but was not able to get it to work; so the next day I took it back into the office and they again gave another one again I was not able to get it coupled up with the box so I called technical at 877-694-9474 and talked to them after a few hours the lady told me I had two options they could schedule a tech to come to the house or I could disconnect the box and take it to the office and exchange it for another one ; so on August 2I disconnected the box and took into the store to exchange it for another one. The store did not have one available to give me and they told me they would schedule a tech to come to the house on August 4 to replace the box. The tech showed up on time and took the remote and was able to couple it with my box and did not replace the box. This worked for about a week then on August the remote again would not work with the box so I called tech services again and explained the situation and told her I had spent countless hours over the last 2 weeks trying to get this resolved again she went through what ever they do and recommended that I take the remote in and exchange it I told her I would prefer to have a tech come by and replace the box she said this would cost me $100 and that's when I finally lost my patience and told her I had spent countless hours messing with this and was going to pay them any amount because of their poor equipment. Up until this time I have been very pleased with Optimum and must say dealing with their people has been great they are all very friendly and helpful. I will have to look into changing cable TV providers. After all the hours I've put into this I just need to have this matter resolved without me paying anything. read more
