I purchased car insurance from AAA in 12/23 through the Eureka office. The process was easy and efficient, and involved real people, not a call center. That was the *only* painless part of my experience with AAA. A year later, I am done. I will not be renewing my AAA membership. Here's why: 1. Incessant junk mail, data privacy: I immediately began receiving "special offers" in the mail for life insurance - about two a week in large envelopes. These took up valuable room in my small PO Box so I called AAA's "help line" as well as opting out online. I continued to receive ever-increasing amounts of mail from AAA and found, via Reddit, that this is a common irritant for newer customers. I again "opted out" using the AAA website and called AAA again. A month after my second call/opt-out, I also began to receive emails, texts, and phone calls from total strangers wanting to sell me various AAA insurance products. At that point I filed a State of California Privacy complaint, but that has still not stopped AAA, who has clearly sold and continues to sell my personal information. 2. Online Access: AAA has a strange website, which is National, but divided into geographic regions. So although you log into a general account you then need to log in again. A person is also required to link their policy number to their account. Time and again I was prompted to enter the same information I had already entered and reset my password. It was difficult to access my own policy information and this has been a problem every time I log in. 3. Communication: A month ago I was involved in a serious car crash. I called AAA's emergency number and was placed on hold ("your call is very important to us") for thirty minutes. I gave up and filed online. Despite being told a claims adjuster would reach out to me within 24 hours no one did. I had to contact them. A week later I received a letter from the Claims Adjuster saying my vehicle had been in a collision that resulted from backing up. The collision I was in happened because I was rear ended. When I called the adjuster she said the wrong code had been entered. Concerned about the car crash and what it might do to my rates, I reached out to my local agent, Mario Galvez. My reasoning was that a local agent would certainly be more responsive than the detached impersonaI bs I had been dealing with. Humboldt County is a small community and I should have done it earlier. Except that Mr. Galvez has never responded. I left him a voicemail describing the car crash and asked him to call me. A week passed with no response. I then wrote him an email describing my poor experience with AAA and telling him to please make sure my policy was not renewed . There was no response. Finally, laughably, I got an automated re-registration notice from AAA listing Mr. Galvez as my contact. I wrote him again, expressing my dismay with the whole AAA experience. Again, no response. Conclusion: When I was growing up, AAA had a rock-solid reputation. My parents have been AAA members for over 40 years. Obviously things have changed, at least for new members. AAA has sold my personal information, been unresponsive, not been there when I needed them, made significant factual errors, and, while every human being I've (finally) reached has been personally pleasant, their corporate policies have resulted in extremely poor customer service. read more

Recently I spoke with an agent at the branch office and he was able to explain the ins and outs of homne insurance including earthquake coverage. AAA costs a little more than the discount insurance providers, but when I speak with their agents, I feel like I am speaking with knowledgeable and local professionals. I am not worried that they are going to try to wriggle out of a claim. I do not worry about whether or not I am over or under covered because I had a very informative discussion with the agent and I was listened to. read more

Called for roadside assistance today and was told a tow truck was dispatched and we were a priority call... should be 60 min. 2-hours later, I called for an update and was told no tow was on the way, my tow was not covered. Had they called me to inform me they were not sending a tow truck I would have made my own arrangements immediately... instead, they felt it ok to have me waiting roadside on the highway with a 3-year Old with no help on the way. Member safety and clear communication clearly is not a priority for AAA.. read more

Traveling to Carmel from McKinleyville, my car broke down by Garberville at 11:30 am on 5/31/21. Called AAA for a tow and was told the truck would arrive in 2 hours. Was informed I had a "Classic" (tow 5 miles) account not a "Premier" (tow 200 miles) account so the tow back home would cost me $850. Told them I had a Premier account for several years but customer service insisted it was Classic and would cost $10 for each mile over 5 miles. I said okay and would take it up with AAA after arriving home. On hold, the AAA phone system repeatedly cut me off recycling back to a new beginning of customer service over and over again. By 7:30 pm, AAA had not arrived so I flagged down a tow truck driver on highway 101 who happened to pass by. AAA left me on what the locals call "Murder Mountain" in 99 degree heat, for over 8 hours at the age of 70 and never showed up for "emergency assistance." There ought to be a law!! read more

We just changed our auto insurance from State Farm to AAA. I was assisted by Monica Hicks - and she was great. She is very professional - and knows her stuff. I didn't feel like she was trying to oversell me on insurance or products that I don't need. I appreciate that. We were surprised to learn that for the same coverage that we got with State Farm - actually more coverage - we are paying much less each month with AAA. We were twenty-year+ customers of State Farm, and in the last several years we've been increasingly unhappy with them. We've subscribed to AAA Road Service for many, many years - and I'm thrilled to have all of our cars insured by them now, also. read more

I have been with AAA since 1983. Saturday I left my car lights on while in a restaurant and the battery died. I called and received professional and very courteous service. Shortly David, with Pacific Towing, pulled up. I felt dumb for leaving my lights on; but he assured me it is easy to do and had even happened to him. He was so smart and handsome and cheerful and he really knew what he was doing. He had me fixed up and on the road within minutes, giving me careful instructions as to keeping the car running for 30 minutes before turning it off. Also he told me that my battery is 10 years old and should be replaced. Tomorrow morning that will happen. As long as I am driving I will never be without AAA. They come through every time, quickly and efficiently, and every one of their employees is willing to go above and beyond to take good care of the customer. read more

We started using AAA this February when I bought a new car. I was expecting a high price because we're financing, and well, it's AAA. So, I didn't question the high rate we were given. However, today I went in and talked to Michael about adding another car to our policy. He was very professional and helpful. I was amazed to be walking out with monthly payments less than half of what they were when I walked in! I was expecting to be paying more for two cars than one! Between what we were paying for the first car through AAA, and the other car through a different company, Michael saved us over $150 a month on our car insurance! That guy deserves a raise, something shiny and new, and someone to tell him how awesome he is as he walks in the door every day! read more

I am writing this review today because I had my first bad experience, I guess thats how it goes, more likely to want to write something if they were rude or something. Well in this case a woman named Mariah was quite rude. I came in to pay my insurance for the year and my DMV registration renewal. Cost over $1600 together. I got Mariah behind the counter. She was snippy and passive aggressive the entire time. She is, ehem, lets say not a nice person, thats a nice way of putting it. I work in the Insurance Department of a Bank, and contacted the local AAA office in Eureka to assist with a mutual client's policy, which needed a minor update to the Loss Payee/Mortgagee section. I was lucky enough to get Mike on the phone, and during our conversation I happened to mention that my personal Auto Policy was through their office. Mike was able to fix the issue with our mutual client in no time, then he took it upon himself to "just check out" my policy to see if there was any room for improvement. Suffice it to say: there was plenty of room for improvement. Mike was able to save me a TON of money by re-writing my policy with better rates *AND* better coverage. Due to previous speeding tickets received years ago, I had apparently been covered under a policy for bad drivers that nobody had thought to get me out of even though the tickets had fallen off my record due to their age. A few days before moving from McKinleyville, Ca. to Winters Ca., my faithful 2000 Lincoln Continental quit on me - right in my driveway. A new battery did not solve the problem. I called the national number, and was treated to immediate and friendly help. Within twenty minutes (as promised) Buddy's tow arrived and towed my car to a mechanic in Eureka, Ca., about thirteen miles. No charge, of course. I've been a member since 1989. Yearly, we use the local office to renew DMV, and to obtain maps for Us vacations. We have yet to succumb to GPS. read more

Early in this year, 2019, I called the AAA office in Eureka CA to have them add a trailer to my insurance that I was about to pick up in Oregon. I was told to go ahead and get it and begin the registration process in this State and that I was fully covered along with anything attached to me. Turns out none of this was true. In addition, it cost me another thousand dollars in towing expenses because they didn't even mention I needed an entirely different roadside assistance card for towing anything... when the whole point of the call was that I was going to pick up a Trailer. Really? I've been a long time member of AAA and this is how I'm treated? Don't ever rely on them to do anything but take your money over the years and then Not look after you. Especially this Eureka office where apparently they don't pay their employees enough to care and will use them, where their phone conversations are not actually recorded, so they say, to take advantage of even long-standing customers. AAA is a criminal organization. read more
