BUYER BEWARE...!!! I called them to get a quote to do a data transfer and make my network drive mountable like Drive Z mapped to a modern network drive, and I was quoted a price of $70 to do it all, but when I brought it in they said it would be $100, and I got into an argument with the owner Cori as now they did not want to convert the drive with no explanation other than that drive is not reliable, but I never had a problem with it, so they didn't do the repair on the drive because they are too lazy to comply with my request and they charged me $70 for a data transfer to a flash drive and that's it... On my way out I spotted a $400 mini-computer for sale on the desk, and I was considering buying it, but when I got home I found my power cord to the drive was coiled around a screwdriver and left in a tightly coiled mess... My laptop stopped powering on, so I brought it here. I described my issue to the guy at the counter, and I also clearly told him that I had not be able to perform the 'power drain' technique' since I couldn't get the back of my laptop off. They called me a few days later and told me my laptop's motherboard was fried, and that there was nothing they could do. I picked up my laptop, gave them $40 and went home with disappointment. When I got it home I pried off the back to get my hard drive out, optimism got the best of me and I decided to take a chance and do the power drain myself. Judging from the advisive still on my battery's cables, I'm willing to say it never was even touched. I did the power drain and now my laptop is working just fine, as if nothing ever happened. Obviously they never tried to do a power drain. I called them back and let them know what I had done, and I asked if they had done the power drain themselves. The guy sounded nervous and tried to move around the issues, saying that he was glad that the problem was fixed and that the power drain was something 'they should have tried' but never said if or if not they did. read more

The fan on my old Toshiba laptop stopped working, so I checked Yelp to see which computer repair shop had high marks, and I saw that Cornerstone Computers did, so that's where I took my laptop to. As it turned out, not only did I need a new fan, but my hard drive was about to go ka-put at any moment. To replace both would have cost about as much as a new laptop, so I decided to say goodbye to my old laptop. I appreciate their honesty and taking the time to explain things to me, because I am not the most computer savvy person. They could have easily talked me in to spending more money than I needed to, but they didn't, and I appreciate that. I've used Cornerstone several times and met with different employees. Each one has been very helpful and courteous in quickly assessing the problem - sometimes just while I'm standing at the counter. We had a laptop infected with malware and they removed it in just a few minutes. The same laptop had a volume issue and that required leaving at the shop. They were able to restore sound within a couple of days for an extremely reasonable price. Big plus: they don't make you feel dumb. read more

I last used Cornerstone in about 2017 0r 2018. At that time they had "Kat" that worked on my Mac. Cornerstone was terrific! BUT last week it had developed too many problems for me to continue, so I arranged to drop my Mac off. Maybe because now, there is NO STORE in which to enter, therefore no way for anyone to take down the things I needed to tell them, BUT just tell the man, at the curb, what problems were. Whatever the reason. things were not fixed, I do not know! It MUST because no one there knows Macs.!!!! SINCE I have my "repaired" Mac back, not only are problems I told the man about, THEY STILL HAPPEN! Also I was told there were "bugs", meaning insects, in my Mac AND they do not deal with that, When I mentioned that to a Mac specialist that there were bugs, he said, "Hoe did they know there were bugs, IF they did not go inside??" ALSO, MORE WEIRD PROBLEMS CROP UP NOW!!! ==Another one this a.m.!! ALSO, the person I had really liked, before, has NOW TURNED ON ME! For a not, 86 year old, gentle woman, what P. said truly hurt: shouted at me that I was rude, shouted at the their employees & I was so bad, no one wanted to deal with me! I was so shocked, that I hand wrote a letter, to Cabe, the owner, about how surprised I was. I asked for a response BUT there was none!! The young man that I mainly dealt with was very, very, nice. I brought my computer in for a specific task to be done and the guys there were very courteous and polite. After a couple of days I was called to pick up the computer and I stated if the task I asked for wasn't completed then I would be back. Not 1.5 months later the issue returned and when I tried to have them honor their work, that I paid for them to do, they were adamant that the work they performed was completed and because of something I was doing was flagging the issue to return...who knew simply turning on a computer was the wrong thing to do. They refuse to fix the issue I originally brought it in for with out paying another charge....why should I have to pay 2x for a service they obviously didn't do right the it time? I would give them zero stars if they weren't so polite but I will not be returning there even if I was paid to go there. read more

I took in my MacBook Pro laptop and I had no hope for it but I wanted to get advise from an expert. Kat who is a MAC expert was able to give my laptop hope! I was happy when she told me that she really wanted to work on it and figure out what was wrong and so I told her to do so. After the diagnosis she figured out that it was the RAM which needed to be updated. I have been using my laptop for a week now and it is faster than it was before and it was a cheaper repair than buying a brand new one. I would definitely recommend this place! This business used to be a good value for your money. This month they suddenly decided to literally double their prices overnight with the explanation being basically "because they could". I guess they feel there aren't a lot of options near here in Humboldt County and that's true but it still seems gouge-y They've always been a little slow and charged double for faster turnover, but they were reasonably reliable and seemed honest so their slow work seemed like a reasonable compromise. Now they're just as expensive as anyone else and still slow. The principal owners are talented (though not the most thorough or professional techs) but they've gradually hired less knowledgeable people who now do most of the actual work. We just bought two new systems from them and it seems like they cut some corners to keep their costs down while still charging as much as ever. For example, they put a CD tray in one system, but not the other. I suspect it's because the one without the CD tray had an upgraded vid card, but they never mentioned that they weren't going to include it and it also cost twice as much. I guess it's definitely buyer beware with every single person you talk to these days. Read those specs very carefully, people! read more

It's great having a computer shop so close to home, especially since these guys seem to be able to handle about anything. They're also very polite and patient for computer users like me that keep asking questions. What really surprises me is they have computer peripherals in their store like video cards, keyboards and such, that seem to be priced along the same lines as bigger stores offer. Sadly, I am forced to use a wireless network maintained by these guys, and have been for over a year. They are unable to consistently keep the network running, sometimes it is down for days because "they can't get to it". Currently our network has been down for two weeks and they don't seem to care. I see they have some good reviews here for simple tasks, but if you are a business looking for good network and internet services, do yourself a favor and hire someone else. They got back to me very quickly and told me that unfortunately it would cost more to repair my laptop than it was worth while giving me several alternatives and uses for my seemingly totaled laptop. Bad business practices! I took my computer in to have the fan fixed. They cleaned it and said it was working fine. I was told that if the overheating problem continued they would install the fan for free, which I appreciated. I had to leave town and could not wait for the part to come in so I canceled the order. When I returned to town I called and asked if they could still order the part and do the work and they said they could. I left my information and the fan information with one of the workers. They never called me back! After over a month of waiting to hear from them, I called and left a message. It took them days to call me back. This wasn't the first time they have not gotten back to me. When they finally did and I was frustrated, they tried to make it my issue for forgoing the initial installment and offered little apology for the worker not returning my phone number.
