i live in eureka because i love this place.
many people are here because they can't hold jobs elsewhere.
the ones that actually gain competency as a professional go away.
yes, you will on rare occasion find competent professionals, but the word RARE is the key word in this phrase.
so the "professionals" we find here in the phone company, the cable company, government offices [state, federal and local] and yes the computer stores are of a specific quality of professionalism.
i have come to refer to it as "Humboldt County Professionalism".
i see the need to put up with this incompetence as part of the price of living in an area as wonderful as we have here.
i have tried dealing with the people at R & D a couple of times.
they are true Humboldt county professionals.
i think that it is better to buy a computer online and deal with phone tech support located in Bombay.
one example of any technical service in the area is that the BEST internet connection in our area would be considered very bad in almost any city in the western states.
all the people that have a decent level of competency are somewhere far away from Humboldt county.
another reason is that they know that there are very few costumers that [through no fault of their own] have little or no knowledge of what these professionals are doing, and doing poorly.
my advice to friends considering upgrading computer systems is to consider that building a computer is more complex than a lego house, but not by a tremendous degree.
the other option is to buy an apple computer online, or look at newegg and consider an ASUS computer from them.
don't get an HP.
HP computers are cheap and run well for a while, but when they have problems they are very hard to fix. read more
