We keep paying more & more for a worse & worse experience. The worst, since we have our internet, phone, & TV in a bundle with "SuddenLoss" (as they are affectionately known around here), is that they apparently do not have enough fiber optics to service the increasing population. Their solution: rolling brownouts (they deny this, but the alarm co. says it happens to their customers all over the county). Our home alarm system communicates via the VOIP phone, so their brownout shuts off our alarm (which raises hairs at the alarm co., forcing call on our cell phones to see if we're OK). Our solution? We have our own hub from the alarm co. to keep the alarm working, especially while we're gone. It costs an extra $15 per month, which I lay directly at Optimum's door. The office staff are polite, but the management lied to me. I've had Service out many times but they always want to do something that costs me money yet has no effect. I've been trying to give what ever money it costs to get internet service at my home, which has been established by their tech team is possible but may be costly. FINE! I will pay it! However, after being told to wait one week for a response I received no response. I walk back in and am told again to wait a week. Again, no response. One more time and once again... no response. My livelihood is based on being able to work remote and unfortunately Suddenlink is the only option in my area. Well, the dumpster fire that has been my experience with Suddenlink since relocating from Southern California just keeps burning. After being in Humboldt County for just over a month I've had to call Suddenlink 5 times to address the high-speed internet service that mysteriously goes down/fails each day, sometimes for as long as an hour; producing garbage responses from customer service reps like: "Maybe it's the network...we're in the process of updating it and can't guarantee your service interruptions won't continue." and "Maybe it's the equipment we installed and charge you for each month? If you'd like, we can charge you to send a technician to replace the faculty equipment with more faulty equipment. Or you can make an appointment at one of our stores and (hopefully) get the equipment replaced." And as their "competition" (i.e. AT&T) is notorious for their year-long contract requirements and comparably incompetent service, Suddenlink knows their effective monopoly allows them to go give zero f*cks. My advice: File an FCC and BBB complaint when you have time. We already have the Sherman Act on the books. Maybe the Feds will actually enforce it one day. read more

Impressively rude. Every single time I need help. First, my bill went from 75 dollars a month to 90 dollars a month with no notification. No one could explain this to me. Now I'm moving and no one can help me line up account transfer dates so that I can ensure I have service. I tried to explain that it's important that I don't miss a day of service because everything I do is virtual/zoom these days. I can't believe I have to explain this to...literally the only internet provider in the county. Please someone bring a new provider to Humboldt County and force this company into some type of competitive etiquette. Suddenlink won't stop sending me postal junk mail no matter how often I ask. And I have been asking them for years. And then today a Suddenlink employee knocked on the door asking if he could "verify" the address and then tried to see Suddenlink products. Our address is on a sign on the front porch and in GPS applications if he really needed to know. Trying to sell in person is what we consider harassment. Some of them are nice and genuinely trying to help but give you the wrong answer, while others act like a sleazy telemarketers just trying to sale you an upgrade and refusing to transfer you to the right person. It literarily took 4- 1hour + longs calls over a 3month period to get an unresolved billing issue fixed. And the only reason it was fixed because I finally just went in to the store and spoke with some there. And it took 10 minutes. This is just one of the MANY, MANY , MANY examples of what it is like to deal with them. It's not worth it. It's such an old (and sleazy) sales model they use because they were the only internet in Humboldt for so long. Hidden fees, they don't honor Visa Gift Card promotion, regular issues with service and Internet connection. Base on my experiences, here is what you can expect: Hidden fees; When you sign up for their promotion offers (Example, my current plan of 1 Gig Internet for $49/m with autopay), there are other set fees IN ADDITION to their plan. You'll have to pay a base $19.99 for 'Suddenlink to provide Internet to your house for you to then ACCESS your $49/m Internet plan.' You'll also have a $3.50/m fee for 'Network Enhancement Fee.' There is a $10-$14.99/m box fee for using their equipment to access the internet - You can of course buy your own and get a better quality one that pays for itself pretty quick on the fees, but you'll have to be mindful of their bills sneaking in a 'equipment rental fee' every few months or when you get a service call. Then you get to explain to them that you have your own box, no you aren't using their, and no you can't return their equipment because you never got it. Your autopay discount will also get knocked out due to their system having issues with autopay. Visa Giftcard Promo; No, you will not receive this card. I've used Suddenlink 3 times now at 3 different properties. At 1st address for 1 year, 2nd address for 3 years, and 3rd address for 2 years. Each time signed up for new Suddenlink plan that offered promotional Visa card where I confirmed with sales that I qualify for it, and followed up with qualifications. They tell you 3-6 weeks after sale, after 3months of living at current address, ect. Each time I've followed up with support and get the / "We don't know what happened, it will be sent out NOW in another 3-6 weeks." - Nope. / "It's already in the mail, has been sent out" - Nope. / Till eventually you get "There is no record of this promotion." Which if you're prepared for and have proof of will take you to the next level of / "We have a support number you can call, no one will answer, but just leave a voice message and they will mail it out again at 877 425 8423." - Nope, they will of course not. Seems to just be an empty voice that folks get sent to once they gave up on lying to ya. Regular issues; In addition to the above issues of their autopayment system frequently failing and the issue of Suddenlink charging you for rental equipment you're not using; You'll have all other fun experiences. Internet goes down every 1-3 months ; sometimes for an hour or two, sometimes longer. Calling support will lead to 'unplug and plug in again - Here are things you're probably doing wrong - It is a known issue, should be back up for your neighborhood soon. And no, no discount or compensation for the time period of service not provided. For periods when internet is choppy or out for days, I've had Technicians visit and do everything from blame Google Nest Wifi/ Mesh Network saying it 'blocks the wifi signals' ( lol ), blame my stove in a separate room for interfering with signals, blame my microwave even after I repeatedly tell them I don't have a microwave; which leads to poor guy trying to recover and say it could be MY NEIGHBORS MICROWAVE (like seriously?), and many more fun excuses! Sometimes they just flat out say they can't fix it, and we'll have to wait. I've even been tech-ghosted and gotten calls for 'technician survey on service received' for technicians that never showed up. Fun stuff. Oh, and they will always tell you that your personal modem isn't as good as their own rental equipment, and if you go over the numbers with them showing line by line that's yours is better than the rental, they'll have their own fun collection of excuses and reasons that those numbers aren't real. Oh, and the internet speed I actually receive has never been what the service plan says it provides. I'm lucky to sit around half to a quarter of it; wired or wireless. read more

Customer service is awful , they never can answer questions, they can't help you or figure anything out with a mistake they made and after holding for over an hour on line waiting for a supervisor they get back on and say "im sorry our supervisor is not available can we call you back?" Sure then I never get a call back. Don't sign up for automatic payments because they will double charge you and not resolve or credit you back either. They double charged me for 2 months ! I've just spent two hours on chat with two different representatives trying to get a less expensive plan, because my daughter's rates have more than doubled over the past two years. She doesn't need or want unlimited data, but after being told that there was a plan that would give me 100 mbps and 250 gig (for $30/month less) a second service rep finally took over the call and said nope, sorry, we can only do that if we drop you to 20 mbps. WTF??? And for the part of town we're talking about, there is NO OTHER PROVIDER. Fortunately I copy-pasted the text of the chat to a Word doc, because when I tried to use the email option to send the text to myself it failed. Exploitative monopoly. The upside is that they offer the best speeds in the area if you have a tech-heavy household, and there isn't much that holds a candle to the gig service. The downside is that you're punished for loyalty by fees that only increase while great deals are handed out to reel in new customers. The competition is no match, an example being AT&T only providing 10mbps in my area, which sounds like it would barely handle Netflix. Because of that, the age-old practice of threatening to change providers holds little weight, and the service reps available via chat will happily stonewall you for as long as you can stand it. I recently made the terrible mistake of wanting better service. My account page gave me an option to upgrade to 1 gig service with unlimited data for just $10 more! After shelling out $350 to upgrade my modem and router, I upgraded service.....then my next bill showed an increase of $30. I should have taken a screenshot of the "for only $10 more" option because all the techs I chatted with claimed that they couldn't see the offer on my account (and this wasn't a banner, it was an actual page on my account that allowed me to select the option for the improved service), and the option disappeared once I was actually upgraded. After having previously been assured that I would have no additional price increases, up jumped my bill, and out come the shifting BS explanations: "Well, there's a surcharge", "well, there were two promotions you had that expired" (though I had been recently assured that there were no changes forecast in my rates). "The $10 promotion was only for new accounts." Then why the heck was it displayed and offered to me within my account in the first place? Overall, if their justification of the bait-and-switch didn't satisfy, then they would just re-invent a new story to explain it and keep doing that until I was just too tired to continue. I recently stayed on chat with a tech for something like 40 minutes who took several 5 minute pauses to "check" my account and repeatedly stated "I'm sorry to read that" when presented with instances in which previous techs were not honest with me. He acknowledged my complaints but would not budge, and ended the chat within a millisecond of my relenting. Though I'd be tempted to bite the bullet and cancel service for a month, the pandemic is not a good time for it with all the distance learning, telecommuting, and streaming going on. Anyway, though I love the speed, I hate that we're all at the mercy of a monopoly whose reps will not hesitate to lie or stretch the truth while squeezing their clients for more and more as time goes on. It's not a good feeling to know that there is no alternative to this company that pretty much has the whole county by the nuts and, as I said earlier, punishes loyalty with added fees. read more

This company majorly SUCKS!!! My tv, internet and phone have been out for THREE DAYS!!! The first LIE that they told me was that there was no service because they hadn't received payment yet. Bullshit!!!! The payment automatically comes out of the checking account! Then I was told that there was a HUGE outage, and workers were working feverishly around the clock on overtime to fix the problem, and I should have service restored in 24 - 48 hours. The biggest mistake I've ever made was switching to suddenlink! We have had 6 technicians at our home and that doesn't included the calls! ! The technician They must pick up on corners ! They never call unless they are two blocks from my house ! We've had only one technician that helped get two TVs working and was helpful! I would give zero stars if possible. I got suddenlink approximately a year ago Jan 2019 for $70 It took at least six months for them to finally get my automatic payments set up. Every month I would set it up, and every month it wouldnt work and they would try to charge me a late fee. Finally, they got the automatic payments figured out. I had no complaints for about 7 months. Then this last bill Feb 2020, the bill was suddenly $90 with zero notice or explanation. When I contacted their customer service center I spent 30 min on the phone just to be told "Your bill is a little higher due to the company upgrading their services" but when I asked what upgrades to my service inshould expect he was unable to answer. The only way to reduce my bill was to reduce my internet speed. I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

AVOID THIS INTERNET SERVICE IF YOU CAN!!! Look at the average reviews on yelp....1 star. For many reasons. I have been getting less than half the mbps that I pay for. I called customer service to figure out a solution and they sent me to get a new router. That didn't work. They sent a technician out. That didn't work. I called again for them to say my ONLY option is for me to repeat these steps I just mentioned. And the soonest a technician can come out is two weeks! I have work and school from home, I need reliable internet ASAP. Customer service is located in another country where they speak broken English and don't seem to actually know a think about how internet works. I mentioned the fact that I am paying for a service that they aren't providing. I am doing my end of the deal but they are not. So, I said that it is only fair that they upgrade me or charge me less until this is all sorted....why on earth would I keep paying for a service I am not receiving!!! Which their reply was "sorry for the inconvenience". I am shocked to see how many bad reviews are on this page, so I will be writing to the BBB to see if they can help. This business isn't local, they are all the way in New York and they source their customer service calls to India. If I could leave less than one star I would because they don't even deserve a service star! This company has such serious service and connectivity problems it's pathetic and unacceptable. Because of where we live we have few options for cable and internet providers. I never thought I would miss Comcast but Suddenlink are far and away worse! We haven't had service through one of our rented (from them) boxes (an ARRIS cable modem) for two weeks. This is the third time it has stopped working. You can't get in touch with them by phone without waiting 45 minutes to an hour. This is worthy of an FCC complaint both for lack of connectivity and for service inaccessibility of this uitility. When their tech came out recently I even had to wait while he called his own company and HE was on hold for 40 minutes tryng to get instruction because their service order was written up wrong! I also tried to connect through their online chat which was no better. On each of two days I was given a service window from 10AM to 8PM and received no time update contact throughout that long service window while I waited until 3 PM the first service date and until 9PM for the second service date. On the second service date noone ever showed up at all. I called and waited again and about 9:30 someone finally answered. She told me that I had not been set up to receive a new box at all but for "outside service' which is where they check the outside wiring, so they don't come to your door or call you(?!). She gave me a new service date a week away. I said that was unacceptable and asked to speak to a supervisor. She said that none were available at that hour but assured me they would have a supervisor call me in the morning. By 1:30 PM nothing from Suddenlink supervisor. I called them again and was waiting on hold 30 minutes for a service person. When I finally spoke to a service tech, she put me on hold for 1 hour and 53 minutes waiting to speak to a supervisor. If it weren't for the handsfree nature of a cell phone with a speaker setting I couldn't have stayed on that call long enough for her to get around to speaking with me. And this is not unusual. In fact, it's typical. This company needs help. read more

I just moved to the area and decided on Optimum as internet provider. They made an appointment for installation but no one showed up. I checked my email and they had made a later appointment. Okay fine. Guy shows up, installs services. I'm thinking it's about $90 a month. I was told that I would get a discount (I'm unemployed AND a senior!) About a week after installation I went to work in Mendocino county for a week and to the Bay Area for a couple days. I get back home, the service is off. Turned off die to nonpayment. They sent emails requesting payment to the wrong email!? After hours on the phone with them (I am not exaggerating) collecting payment and telling me service would be restored in two hour...they tell me that they can't restore service remotely and I have to pay $60 to have a tech come to restart! Absolutely the worst experience I've had with ANY company before! They had me down for $140 a month service also, which I never would've agreed to! read more

Well it was installed and she found out that there was not enough channels to even pay $10.00 for so she said she didn't want the service. They said O.K. send the box back. Next thing she knew they had charged her Bank Account $275.00 which made her overdrawn. She called to see what was going on and got nowhere, they said their policy is to give you credit on your account and will not put the money back. Nothing was said about paying for a box. So, my 100$ a month internet suddenly delinked, the company website diagnostics blamed the modem I had purchased from them. After getting the we are sorry but the wait for telephone customer service is over a half hour...I drove into the closest regional office to rent a new modem. It turns out the new modem did nothing to fix the problem, called again and waited to set up appointment for tech visit. I received an appointment for sometime between 8am-noon the next day. At 10:06am I received a cute little bot text saying tech was on the way...then a follow up text asking if I wanted to keep, cancel, or reschedule the appointment. I typed 1 for keep, and the bot responded with "we'll see you soon" 2 hours later no tech no phone call...nothing! I checked the link the bot sent and now instead of saying tech will arrive between 10-11 am it says 4:45-6pm wow...if I could rate zero stars I would beyond horrible customer service read more
