Last Sunday, June 21th, after having our Father's Day family dinner at a Korean BBQ restaurant, we all went to Ooyoo Cafe for dessert. We ordered taiyaki, hotteok, ginger tea, and chamomile tea to share. Unfortunately, the ginger tea was too sweet--it was almost impossible to drink. Ginger tea should have a natural ginger flavor, but the sweetness completely overpowered it. It also seemed like the café might have changed owners because the menu looked a little different. What surprised me the most was how much their tea service had changed. In the past, when you ordered tea, it was served in a glass teapot with matching glass teacups so everyone could share. Now they said they only have paper cups, and each person has to order their own tea separately, similar to how Starbucks serves drinks. That was the most disappointing part of the visit. I went there expecting the same experience as before, but it was completely different, which was quite surprising. I was also disappointed with the outdoor seating. They used to have comfortable cushioned sofas outside, but they've all been replaced with hard metal chairs and tables which made the outdoor seating much less comfortable. read more

Beautiful dessert, but as bingsoo, it's just okay. No where near as good as Sul & Beans when it comes to flavor and ingredients. We got the ube, mango and mixed grain (misugaru). The ube doesn't taste like ube at all. The purple powder had no flavor. The mango slices were a bit sour, but I liked the vanilla ice cream and overall the flavor was very refreshing. The misugaru wasn't very nutty-tasting and the mochi on top was hard. Their walnut cakes are delicious though. I'd come back for those. read more

A plop of vanilla ice cream definitely did not hurt hahaha. Overall I was super satisfied with the flavors as it was up to par with all the other snow places I have been to. The hotteok was very hot and slightly crispy. The custard taiyakis were light and weren't batter heavy. We also ordered the matcha slush which had a very strong matcha flavor and was slightly bitter. Ooyoo should be renamed to Oooyaaaa!! Great little cafe with an inviting upstairs patio with lots of plants. They have a private lot to park with a security guard. I usually go in the evenings for a quick bingsu fix. I'm not a bingsu connoisseur, but I really enjoy Ooyoo's. The service is fast and friendly, great seating and delicious desserts. They also do freshly made Taiyaki's, which are often ordered by other patrons. The strawberry Bingsu had sweet strawberries and definitely can feed multiple people. We ordered large Mango bingsu, they used not the Atulfo or yellow mango, hence it's not that sweet. The shaved ice is fine and good, red bean inside is well cooked and big portions and pieces. If I will compare this with some other bingsu place, I think theirs is the same but I had better. We also tried their taiyaki in cream cheese and red bean flavors--both were delicious! For the longest time, I always thought that Oakobing was the go-to place when it comes to finding good Bingsu (Korean shaved ice dessert) in KTown, but there certainly was a paradigm shift after trying this place out! Ooyoo is a solid contender for the spot of best bingsu purveyor in KTown, the place is a bit difficult to find but well worth it once you manage to get to it. The seating itself is such a nice touch. There are big booth-like, semi round couches outside with what looks like a fireplace in the middle, so perfect for large groups. My favorite was the strawberry bingsu, but the other two flavors that we tried were very (injeolmi and black sesame) were also highly recommended. At 10, the lady comes out to us and say they're closing and we say okay we're just out here in the patio. She just goes No you have to leave the area.. We're just confused as to why the hell we're being kicked out of the outdoor patio when there is a sign saying "Patio open til 11pm" and the guard just continues to say that we just have to leave since the shop is closing. We tell the guard that we'll be out of their hair in a few and the guard gets tired of speaking with us and leaves. Oh and the bingsu was mid.. way too grainy.
