TARO BLACK STICKY RICE W FRESH MILK + SWEET POTATO BALLS
Juliet G.

If you're looking for something sweet, that doesn't make you feel like you're actually eating sugar, this is the one ^^ To me, Makkee sweets taste like a bowl of unsweetened boba drinks. We ordered the Coconut Taro Sago and the Taro Mochi Black Sticky Rice + Sweet Potato Balls. I didn't try too much of the Coconut Taro, but the review was, "it's good." The Taro Mochi Black Sticky Rice with added sweet potato balls reminded me of a drink from YiFang and Formosa Aroma combined. The textures were chewy and bouncy, and just barely sweet, which is what I've been enjoying lately. You can sub oat milk in this one; I didn't by mistake, but I will for sure next time. Fresh milk is not my vibe, but the dessert was still hittin', it just would've hit harder with oat for me. The sweet potato balls were great, I'm glad I added those on, just added more mochi like texture. I should've taken a photo of the to-go bag. It was insulated and taped and decorative. The packaging is very well-thought out here. Parking for me was simple, just tell the lot man you're doing a pick up order and you don't have to pay to park for a bit. MY GAWD, I want to go back and try another milk bowl already. 10/10 for Makkee ~

This amazing dessert shop is coming to DTLA. Love the yumminess! I had: 1. Makkee deluxe 2. Tapioca deluxe 3. Oriental jasmine milk tea

I think I've officially tried the entire (maybe except two) menu and here is what I think. The mango served at this location is sweet and fresh but I would probably skip the mango pamelo sago dessert since you can probably get it elsewhere. The mango ice is good, but it seems like the portion is smaller when you get it to go. I would probably skip the taro milk and taro sago as well unless you can a big taro fan. There's no uniqueness to the desert except it's less sweet compare to the typical dessert Now, items that I would order again..I would probably get the watermelon dessert for summer time since it's nice and refreshing. The tapioca dessert is good if you're looking for something chewy. The mango ice with the purple rice is good too but it's probably to have it dine in since the ice cream melts and the grass jelly with taro balls. Those are just my preferences. The good thing is there's not too many people but there's a wait after you place an order. Also, the parking lot is valet $3 for lunch $5 for dinner so you're better off finding street parking. They happen to have a buy one, 2nd one 50% off so it's a good deal this week.

"Now open in the heart of LA's Koreatown!" If you have a sweet tooth, you NEED to check out MAKKEE Dessert, now open in k town! I stopped by for their soft opening, and everything was seriously worth trying! I got the Tapioca Deluxe, Makkee Deluxe, Mango Snow Black Sticky Rice--so refreshing for summer with that snowy layer at the bottom--and their seasonal Tapioca Pearls in Coconut Milk. And here's the sweet deal: Fantuan Presale gets you 2 desserts + exclusive merch for just $12.99! Soft opening is August 21. Grand opening is August 31, with 50% off the second dessert Aug. 31-Sep 3r. Basically... my sweet tooth is very happy.

Peach gum lotus seed with fresh milk

Easy to order, beautiful packaging to go, and a delight to have after a meal to satisfy a sweet craving without feeling like you've eaten too much sugar. I had the Peach gum lotis seed with fresh milk. Very light, barely sweet, but the cool fruit and soft nut satisfy and feel pleasant to the mouth. It's elegant feeling inside as well. They have a great deal with Fish for you (it's very good Chinese food) in the next plaza over where you get a free appetizer with proof of purchase. I ordered dessert and the server agreed to delay and hold it for 30 mins while I ate dinner next door. Excellent combination. Note: Parking is small and they charge. Don't walk out of the plaza or the valet boosts the charge to $15. The free appetizer next door helped offset the extra cost.

Taro mochi black rice

The desserts here are incredible. Never too sweet and the fruits are always fresh. This location has a loud ringing sound played every time an order is placed and it hurt my head so I'd recommend taking your order to-go.

Hey Damo, would it hurt to let your customers know that you only set the lid on top of the drinks? You don't actually snap it down on the drink. Not knowing this I spilled a portion of my latte. When I was in line at nearby Out of Ordi a young lady near me spilled quite a bit of her drink on her hands and clothes. The poor kid was embarrassed. Please do better for your unsuspecting customers. Perhaps simply place the lid next to the drink when presenting it on the counter.

I also love that it's sweet without being overwhelmingly sweet, so you can actually enjoy the flavors without feeling like it's too much. One thing I really appreciate about this place is that they offer smaller versions of each flavor instead of making you commit to the bigger size. It's perfect if you want to try different flavors or just want a little something sweet without ordering a huge bowl. service is honestly nonexistent cus you order from the kiosk and the workers are always behind the curtain. Definitely a great spot for Korean shaved ice, especially if you love that super light and fluffy texture!

The staff seemed very tired and exhausted. Although the bingsu was already a little sweet even without adding extra syrup, I still enjoyed it. However, the music was extremely loud--so loud that I could barely hear the staff when they were speaking. I was actually a little concerned about the hearing of the employees who have to work there for several hours every day. Because the music was so loud, we couldn't comfortably eat in the main dining area, so we moved to a small room in the back. It was quiet there because there was no music, but unfortunately, there were quite a few mosquitoes flying around. We all got bitten by mosquitoes. As for parking, there was a sign that said "Parking at Rear," but the parking area behind the building cost $5. Overall, I enjoyed the bingsu, and the staff was okay, but the extremely loud music, $5 parking and the mosquitoes in the back room made the experience less comfortable. I'm not sure if I would come back again.

Parking is pretty difficult, and valet is $5. I can easily see the parking lot getting gridlocked on a busy day. I sampled a few of their gelato flavors, including the jasmine lychee and soy sauce. Both were okay, but I just wasn't in the mood for either of them today. I ended up getting the Pandan Toast to try. The pandan flavor was really good--not too grassy and didn't taste too artificial. The ice cream also had a buttery taste to it. It might have been from the toast, but I'm not too sure. The bread itself wasn't oily, which was nice, but it was kind of dry. The pandan sauce definitely helped make it easier to eat. I probably wouldn't eat the bread by itself though because it was super hard and didn't really have much flavor. I wasn't sure what to expect from the toast, but it wasn't quite what I expected. I originally wanted to try the mango sticky rice flavored shaved ice because it looked really good in the photos, but unfortunately they didn't have it today. I'd come back to try their shaved ice when mango is in season again!

Maybe next time I'll try the rest of the menu to round out my experience here. I've tried two of the Petit Gateau (tiny cakes) - the My Man Go (Fresh mango, hazelnut praline, mango mousse) and the Berry3 (Strawberry coulis, pistachio praline, raspberry mousse, crimson velvet). In addition to being so darn beautiful, the flavor was just phenomenal. I loved both but slightly preferred the cubically adorable berry cake's taste. For me, it's the perfect size but you def need a spoon to break into the outer shell. Or if you want that TikTok/Instagram video biting into it, that works too. They also have drinks ranging from coffees to matchas to milk teas to tonics and teas ~ truly something to cover everyone's palate for imbibing. Evenings and weekends can get very busy so go on off hours or right at opening if you can. They have their own free parking just down the block from the storefront at 2850 W 7th St or you can try to find a slim pickens' street spot. Tu Cha is such a fan favorite for photos when friends are in town, but the prices are just a tad steep to be an everyday kind of spot.
