A real gem in the heart of Colonial Beach. The interior is unassuming. The menu was simple but very good. Staff and the owner were attentive and helpful. The escargot were some of the best I've had and the broth was so good I sopped it up with fresh rolls. Sauteed calamari was excellent but I would have preferred jarred kalamatas over the canned black olives. The homemade spring rolls were excellent with a nice crunch and a simple filling of seasoned potatoes and vegetables. Our entrees were excellent. My wife had the fillet which was prepared au poivre and perfectly cooked. My duck breast was perfection and the reduction was divine. Once again, I put my bread to use for sopping up every drop. My only criticism is that most of the dishes seem to come with a standard medley of baby carrots and fresh crisp broccoli, a few new potatoes, and a mold of cous cous atop a oiece of grilled zucchini. Rice would have been a nice option. Overall a positive experience and we'll be back. read more

On a day that reached over 100 degrees. I stumbled upon Oomboon for lunch and was so excited to see the menu! Sadly they only offered sushi and ramen which was all great! We plan to go back for dinner after the summer crowd departs to try their French cuisine. Service was great and great location! We dined at the Oomboon restaurant in Virginia Beach and all three meals were excellent. I had the pork tenderloin, my wife had the rack of lamb, and my son had the ribeye steak. Service was very good and staff friendly and explained the menu very well. read more

When we arrived to be seated on a cold day. We requested to be seated away from the front door. They claim their was no seating. After took the seating a couple that stayed at the same bed and breakfast walked in was seated away the door even those with both made reservation standing in the same room and our reservations was made first. The couple that was seated away from the cold front door was white and we are brown skin. The food was very good despite being uncomfortable cold. They're not color blind. Update The following morning I regurgitated my entire meal. And have been queasy to date after eating the curry scrimp dish. read more

PROs: Service was attentive without being hovering. Escargots, Caesar salad, and my wife's scallops were excellent. CONs: My yellow-tail was vastly undercooked. It was essentially just seared and cool in the middle. This would have been fine if it was sushi-quality fIsh1, but this was very, very far from it. Also, they brought out food way too fast, serving my fish, for example, before the previous course was finished. I came here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The sushi was fresh and great portion. The cook, Pepsi, and the waitress, Zoe, were friendly and hospitable. I had the spicy tuna, yellow tail, and the Dynamite Roll. The Dynamite roll was my favorite and I ordered it twice! It definitely felt like one of the neighborhood favorites! Friendly service, good food Thai or French. Sushi as well. Unassuming to look at but we'll worth the trip.

We had high hopes for this place...We walked into the restaurant and had to ask to be seated. Once seated we sat there for 30 minutes and finally had to flag a waitress down to order. We were mildly entertained while listening to an endless loop Bruno Mars hits played over and over while we starved waiting for our order and no one came to check on us. One of our party finally received her meal an hour before the rest of us and still our waitress did not come to let us know where our food was. We had to flag down another waitress for some bread while we sat waiting and watching our friend eat her food. Two stale rolls showed up for our party of four and when our food finally arrived, the cold bread was promptly removed without asking. One of our party was in mid-sip from her straw when the waitress removed the water and filled it. So odd! We finally finished our meal and the table was cleaned by the bus server and the waitress brought over a sushi dish that they forgot to serve. They didn't ask if we still wanted it and it was HOT from the rice that was just cooked. She's was very disturbed when we asked her to remove it from the bill. We ended our night by listening to 24 karat magic for the 5th time as we exited the restaurant. read more

Sad that I came to colonial beach and didn't get to eat here! I called and was told that they were fully booked but asked if they were still taking walk ins and they said yes but couldn't guarantee wait times. No problem, we we didn't mind a wait. We arrived at 7:45 and I went in to inquire about the wait time while my husband paid for parking. I noticed 3 empty tables outside with 2 diners enjoying some sushi that looked good. I walked inside and saw 4 more empty tables, 2 parties of 2, 1 larger party (I think of 6), and some folks at what looked like a bar. The empty tables gave me hope! The waitress stuck her head around the corner and I asked about a table for 2. She replied that they were fully booked and couldn't take us... super odd because it was the same woman I spoke to at 5:15 when I called earlier. I asked if I could order takeout and she said no. Again, we would have waited if the issue was a full reservation list (to see if there was a no show) but when she denied a takeout order I realized she really didn't want our business. I looked at the empty tables, felt embarrassed because the three tables of people were staring at me like "I can't believe she's turning you away in a half empty restaurant that is silent." One of them even whispered "this is so awkward" I turned and left. My husband, confused, walked with me to Suki a few blocks down (same owner I believe) and they were really lovely and accommodating. I was wearing a nice dress and nice leather sandals, and was sober so I know it wasn't either of those things. Maybe they were short on help, but why deny a takeout order? Not a great way to end our last night of a 2 night vacation but I hope those who were able to get in enjoyed it! 3 stars for what what is evidently good food (but which we didn't get to try), a fun menu, and a clean interior. Minus 2 stars for poor customer service and poor communication. In future, just tell people it's reservations only when they call ahead. read more

Such a cute place I wasn't expecting in Colonial Beach! My boyfriend and I had some sushi to start and then pad Thai and drunken noodles for dinner. I was able to make a reservation for the same day, but it does seem like they usually have a full dinner rush so call ahead. I've been to Noi's other restaurant, Suki, and enjoyed the food as well as the personable approach he has. I went with a friend who had loved his lamb when he'd run the Lighthouse as a French Cuisine place. Me and 3 other people ordered all the appetizers, a Caesar salad, filet mignon, and the lamb. EVERY single dish was delicious and Noi made a point to verify the food was up to our liking. Cannot wait to come back, with or without friends! read more

Boon Oom opened on 06 August 2020. They serve excellent French food two blocks off the beach. I believe they offer indoor and outdoor seating, although it was too hot to eat outdoors on the day we visited. The staff and owner were very warm and courteous. Boon Oom is an unexpected treat, and we were glad to be one of their first customers. read more

Recently moved to colonial Beach. We have tried several places in town but this is by far my favorite. Chef Pepsi makes the best sushi I've ever had. All of the staff is very friendly and the service is great. We've been here multiple times and order something new each time. So far we haven't found anything that isn't delicious. My family of four went here for dinner, each of us got a different entree, and all of them were delicious! We started the evening with escargot and a bowl of Tom Kha soup, both were excellent. Normally we skip dessert, but tonight we made an exception, and were delighted we did. The creme brûlée and chocolate fondant were amazing! To top it all off, the prices were very reasonable!. Food didn't look great, but that wasn't the issue. Customer service was rude and disappointing. As soon as I entered the restaurant, the server treated me with an attitude that came out of nowhere. Named after a Buddhist monk in Thailand or Laos this restaurant does an exquisite of properly cooked French and Southeast Asian fare. The appetizer chicken satay with peanut sauce brought back man y memories of a double tour we did in Bangkok! The sea scallops in wine were presented with a pice of flavorful bacon which made them super delicious, My wife's Pad Thai was delicious five star all the way. Topping the whole thing off wit mango's and sticky rice was over the top for us. This is the first time on this side of the globe we have had food like this.
