Lava Shrimp - my 2nd time ordering this
    Pam B.

I should've written this review a few weeks back. Anyway this is close to my workplace so this is our usual go to for lunch. We also get coupons and we have an online account with promotions as well. Here's a good deal but can only be used up to this week - they launched their lava shrimp a couple of weeks ago and there's a promotion on Fridays for seafood where you get a plate for only $8. Note that this is not the one with macaroni. Love their macaroni salad but I tried lava shrimp 2x (both on Fridays to get the deal) and it was pretty good. Reminds me of boiling crab seasoning - not exactly but close. Might be more spicy for some but it's ok with me. If you don't like shrimp - their chicken bbq plate is good as well. That's really my default order. I used to get the mahi mahi but that's not available anymore. I usually have food to go but recently I've been ordering online and eating in so I have uninterrupted lunch break. Also online orders have more promotions. Place is sometimes full at lunch but you'll always find a seat. If you work nearby definitely order here and if you like that Hawaiian macaroni salad - it's pretty good. Sometimes I just order that.

2025/03/17 Update: I tried their limited time special, the Lava Shrimp plate, I ordered it without salad and extra rice. As implied by it's name, it's hot, but the heat was not immediate, it took a while for the heat to hit me, at first it was hot enough to give it flavor but after a while, my mouth heated up! It comes with about 12 shrimps. It was good. I'm glad I ordered a large soda tho

Looking for a Gym, healthy food options for the GAINS! Look no further than this plaza! Across from the LA Fitness and across from a Costco gas station , this spot is a great location for macro gains and stable chicken with rice. This location has plenty of seating with a welcoming entrance. The staff are nice and friendly. The decorations are whimsical, with an organized seating. The bathrooms are on the side and it serves lots of To-Go Orders. The service is quick and waited less than 10min for both plates. Not a good spot to people watch since they are trying to get it to go. The sprite was spritzing and food was consistent. Enjoyed my meal and ate leftovers today. 7/10, the downside is that they charge for plastic bags but I rather pay for plastic than a paper bag. Check this spot out for good options!

I honestly only really come here for the spam musubi since it comes in 2 pieces while other places don't make it as good or they charge per piece. My family loves their Hawaiian bbq plates! The Katsu is delicious and love their Mac salad. They also have other musubi like chicken and beef rather than the standard spam which is neat. Parking can be a bit of a pain but it's a big lot with other food and shops around. Definitely worth coming here over other Hawaiian bbq places! Lots of seating inside and outside and they have an easy order process. Wish they had more in the area. IG: @ammysalamii

Stopped in for lunch and we received excellent service, the dining area was great and everything was clean. The food was delicious! All the staff were very friendly. Definitely recommend Ono Hawaiian BBQ.

All sauces except the Katsu !!

I wish I could go into the negative on stars because my experience today was unacceptable! I usually go in person to this location but for the first time ever I didnt feeling like driving and took advantage of the lower fees with Grub Hub + thru Amazon Prime. Big mistake - first of all , Ono is one of the few places with no drop down menus to add or modify orders. I wanted to make sure all of their sauces were in the bag so I called the restaurant. Whoever answered the phone said all of the sauces would be in the bag. Well of course my order arrived in record time and was missing my favorite sauce , the Katsu sauce. I called the restaurant a 2nd time and explained what happened. After 14 minutes on hold, the manager came back only with an offer of a side macaroni salad for the trouble - I told him this was unacceptable. I wont be back to this location !

I'm not sure where all the bad service reviews are coming from because I had great service from 3 staff who helped me from the cashier to a cook checking on my order and another girl handing off my order. I wasn't too hungry so I just went with their musubi, I was able to get the set with one chicken and one spam for about $6. Overall, the biggest issue is the amount of rice to meat ratio. You could barely see the protein in either musubi. Now I know this isn't a "burrito" where it's going to be stuffed with meat and filling, and I LOVE musubis, but it was pretty sad just how bad the ratio was. The rice was also a bit hard. But I did enjoy it being made fresh as you can't always find "freshly made" musubi in LA. Both meats also had good sauce and flavor. The spam is pre-made so nothing to cook there, but the chicken was just rubbery and had a weird texture to it. Too many misses for me to leave even an average review here.

Service was satisfactory. Fish was very fresh and tasty. I would come again to try the restaurant and their other fish products I missed. So this place is a choose your own adventure (handrolls, fish shop, cafe), built out in this tetris sort of layout. Upon entry you have some high chair seating and the cafe straight to the back. Along the other side is some window seating followed with the fish shop on against the last wall. Overall its pretty small so seating is limited. So much so I was indirectly informed to move from the window seating after sitting there with my bev and bread because that was for the handroll section. So I promptly went outside. Ordered: Iced Chai Latte: 5/5 - Excellent Chai. Best I've had in a minute Banana Bread: 5/5 - Recommended to me by the server. Sigh, reminded me of those good ol covid days. Very good banana bread. BBQ Fish: 4/5 So fun fact - on sundays whatever you buy from the fish shop they'll bbq it for you, pretty cool right? While the prices are a little steep, most of it is by weight so my selected fish actually was only $6. When we do the bbq option you get a little slaw to go with it. I asked the guy to give me a relatively affordable but good option and now I don't remember what it was I know. But it WAS good. It was light, a little citrusy, and surprisingly meaty? If I closed my eyes and did a blind test you could've had me fooled for red meat. If you don't like bones and all I would suggest something else. Now I have to say as soon as I ordered that one of the girls who worked there was on her off day and ordered a salmon burger, and apparently that's off the menu and isn't every week! I felt bamboozled, the fish guy did me wrong haha. With that said, if you can be here for that it seems well worth it, the grill man was mostly cooking patties and I asked one party how was it and they said it was delicious, really packed too, that burger was thick! Now there is some outdoor seating (3) but between the handrolls in the back and the bbq in the front it could be hard to find a place to sit. I got there around 12 Sunday and a few things I wanted were already sold out so I'd say make it earlier or order ahead if you can. All in all this place has been on my list for a few years now and I'm glad I finally went. I enjoyed what I experienced so far but I'm willing to go back to get the full nine yards.

I've had oyster shooters before and loved them but didn't like their take on it here. Way too much horseradish and the vodka portion was way off (too little vodka) and unbalanced. Oysters Rockefeller - 4 1/2 stars. Quite meaty and delicious, such a great flavor and take on this classic dish. Crab Cake - 4 stars. Quite the large portion, and quite good! The famed lobster appetizer was not for us. Bits of lobster floating in a lot of butter didn't excite us. Excellent salads. The other appetizers however, were excellent. We've been twice now had had a lot of their menu. The pork was outstanding. The rack was very good, but I've had even better racks elsewhere. The "famous" banana cream pie was good, not great, but so huge and rich it must be shared. At $30, it's maybe also a tad overpriced. The bar makes a healthy-sized martini that's worth its high-end price tag. Great wine list with wonderful advice and good-sized sample pours, even though I only drink one glass and my husband doesn't drink at all. This is a good place to splurge on a good wine. I've mentioned the above-par service. Informative and cheery, without trying to become your best friend. They went out of their way to assure us a table in a very quiet spot, due to my deafness. Very attentive without being overbearing. Their suggestions seem honest, rather than just trying to upsell everything. The place is huge and gorgeous. Flatteringly, if dimly, lit, it lends itself to romantic dinners and anniversaries. In our case, we like to have a rather luxurious and romantic and lengthy meal perhaps once a month, and feel very fortunate to be able to do so. It's divided into several smallish areas and the effect is rather cozy and intimate. It's chic and stylish, so PLEASE folks, dress for it? It especially saddens me to see a nicely dressed young woman, who obviously spent some time on herself beforehand, with a guy ( I'll guess her husband ), in shorts and a tee shirt. I say, for a place like this, where you could easily spend four bills on a good meal for two, with drinks, management, bring back a dress policy! And enforce it with a reminder email they you do so. Is a collared shirt and a pressed pair of khakis too much to ask for?
