I was disgusted when i found a cockroach crawling by my food. Food was great but that's besides the point; my first time at this location and it was a bad experience. Hope they start to clean this location better because it truly is disgusting. We saw it walking on the table right next to us and i smacked it towards the booths. read more

We've been here twice in the last week and I'm a big fan of their grilled lemon pepper chicken plate! It is healthy and delicious. The plate comes with a massive amount of grilled lemon pepper chicken (white meat) with a fresh and juicy lemon wedge to squeeze on top, rice, mac salad (my favorite!), and steamed cabbage. I get it with a side of Katsu sauce for dipping! The portion size is huge and honestly may be enough for 2 people but I like it so much that if I'm super hungry, I can down it in one sitting! Ha! I was craving a plate lunch, so I decided to try this place since I seen advertising on it. Unfortunately it did not satisfy my craving. Positives - The portion of chicken on my #1 (BBQ chicken which is almost like a less saucy teriyaki chicken) was good. I couldn't finish it in one sitting. Along with 2 scoops of rice, it's going to fill you up. Negatives - The scoop of mac salad was sad. It was like a kid size. Also, when they say it comes with vegetables, they mean 2 small pieces of broccoli and a ton of steamed cabbage. I've been eyeing this place for a while now as it's next to my gym. Went here for the first time, and wasn't all that impressed. We ordered the teriyaki chicken plate which was decent. Came out pretty quickly. We ordered a side of spam musubi in a separate order right after the first, but this took 20 minutes. My friend was almost through with his food before I got mine. Kind of a mystery as to why the musubi took them that long. Musubi was lacking in the sauce department too. Great rendition of some traditional Hawaiian flavors. The menu is displayed on TVs above the counter - we were happy to see crab rangoons (a fave) is the suggested side for just about everything! I chose the BBQ platter, my wife the grilled chicken, comes with rice, a scoop of macaroni salad, and a side - we both chose crab rangoons. There are a few dipping sauces available - the meats they are meant to go with on the labels. I went with the suggestions and was very happy with the flavor pairings. The breaded chicken (katsu, I believe) deserves a shout out - thinly sliced (or pounded out) fried chicken, very tasty. Usually come here for afternoon lunch. Been to this place 2 times. Pretty consistent with the food. Usually gets the Hawaiian barbecue chicken. Plates comes with 2 sides. Mac & cheese and vegetable side and cabbage under the meat. Nice flavor with the bbq chicken, but I do like the bbq sauce in additional. Good quantity, you could do potentially 2 meals for this 1 lunch plate order. Quality is not bad. basic but consistent overall. Lots of indoor seating. Place is overall clean. Big parking lot outside in the plaza. Service is pretty quick. I tried their spam musubi 2 times as well. This takes a bit longer to make for some reason. They do put a lot of rice in the wrap. Probably more than I like. But basic. Pricing: Definitely on the pricier side for a semi-fast food type of place. But you get the quantity and consistent quality of food. Good post-gym workout, just decrease your rice intake. I believe the price for just a plate lunch came out to around $9. Would come back here if I was around the area and craving this. I go to the Ono in Surprise quite often and never had an issue. Went to this one for lunch with a coworker and we can't get out of the bathroom. My stomach is in knots so bad and I feel nauseous. Avoid this place! Went there today and tried to phone order 20 mins before they closed they said they couldn't take phone orders before closing, stated i would have to walk in and order. I told her that was inconvenient for both of us cause i could get there and food be ready but instead she said to come in and order. My group asked a few questions about the menu and the lady at the registered acted like we were the biggest inconvenience of her day. We went here because my brother had been raving about how great their Katsu and Hawaiian BBQ. I ordered the BBQ Katsu mix. It actually met my expectations, the beef and chicken was well cooked that it was so tender to eat. Dipping the meats into the different sauces made it easy to devour and savor. The Mac salad was good too. Wasn't too strong on the mayo. I'd have to say with the price you pay for the meal and the portions they serve you really get your money's worth. Well, I tried a couple different Hawaiian restaurants while in Phoenix for my visit. Being that I lived in Hawaii and married into a local family, I think I'm a pretty good judge of what Hawaiian food should taste like. Ono's surpassed the other places by far. In fact I'm not gonna even gonna write a review on the others. The Chicken Katsu is a "must try" By far the best in this city. I love Ono's Hawaiian BBQ! When I find the time to stop by any of their locations I always order the Hawaiian BBQ Mix. It includes BBQ Chicken, BBQ Beef & Kalbi Short Ribs, a side of macaroni salad, cabbage, and rice. All of the meats are tasty, though sometimes really fatty, but the macaroni salad is like crack! It is the best macaroni salad I have ever had in my life. When my friends tell me about eating entire pints of Ben & Jerry's ice cream I wish I had a pint of the macaroni salad instead. Depending on who is working will determine if they are stingy with the portion sizes. When I lived in the East Valley, one of the Gilbert locations was so cheap about portion side that I decided to only order it when I'm going to the Baseline or this location in Phoenix. I often like to call my order in ahead of time so it is ready as soon as I get there. I always ask for them to substitute the cabbage for extra macaroni salad and they are cool about it. I wish the restaurants were more consistent regardless of which location I visit. read more

Good Value for Your Money The food at Ono Hawaiian Grill is good. The restaurant is clean and the staff are friendly and accommodating. On this visit I had the Bbq grilled chicken and my lunch companion had the BBQ Chicken Combo Plate. The combo plates come with rice and macaroni salad. I have to admit I'm not a fan of macaroni salad but the macaroni salad is really good at Ono Hawaiian Grill. I traditionally cater an annual party with food from Ono Hawaiian on Thomas road. This year, the staff went over and beyond to cater my party of 70. This restaurant is the only Hawaiian restaurant that agrees to have food ready at 11:00am, when it opened. The food was ordered the day before. At time of pickup, the food was ready and the staff on Saturday morning went over and beyond to make the catering experience a good one. They offered trash bags to line the bottom of my trunk and loaded the food into my car. Note - the restaurant does not have serving utensils so make sure you have those! My guests were thrilled with the hot, fresh food. Rave reviews in particular for the Hawaiian chicken and Kalua pork with cabbage. I also ordered the Hawaiian beef and the "island fire chicken. The seafood a la carte platter with fried shrimp and white fish disappeared and the spam musabi, macaroni salad, and white rice were all fresh and delicious.
