I went here for lunch because it was on my list of restaurants to visit while back in Lubbock. A little to my surprise, my brother told me they switched from one corner of the street to another. I think it's because a new apartment complex was developed and the rent went up. The Good: I was actually glad they moved places. They oven doesn't look like fires have broken out in it. The decor is on the verge of stereotypical Italian from the maps of Italy to the poster of various fictional mob bosses. The place is perfect for lunch. The Bad: The seating is pretty tight. Every table sits 4 at the most and even then you're sitting chair back to chair back. I had the calzone deal, and it tasted a little too prepared. Overall: The food was still good enough for me to want to go back. Next time I think I'll order a custom calzone to ensure it's made fresh. PS - My brother said that every once in a while Mario, the owner, will come out and say, "Aye! It'sa me a Mario!" I don't know if any of that is true, but my brother believes it. read more

One Guy's is the first pizza you'll probably ever have as a student at Tech. Little by little as your world grows around the Hub you'll seek out other joints, but you'll always come back and visit this place. At least, that is what some of my friends and I have always done. One Guy's pizzeria is located right across campus and continues to feed hungry Tech students from freshman year to Graduate school. Their main star icons are of course their pizza and their Calzones. Personally, I like it as simple as it gets: one slice of cheese please! It's delicious and crispy. The slices aren't too fast on their own so you know they haven't been sitting under a lamp all day, and their pizza crust is delish. Just enough crunch to make you decide that you needed a second slice. Their Calzones for me are a seasonal favorite. Usually too big for a Fall semester ( and too hot too), but BEST during the winter months. With the hunger building up from walking all over campus, and with the cold Lubbock wind pushing against you- what you need is some italian comfort that can only be brought by their mouth watering Calzones. They are hot, soft/crunchy, and filled with meat and cheese. Could be shared, but why would you do that? The place can get pretty busy on major weekends and always has customers within their shop. -But hey! A busy place always guarantees something you'll like. So, If you're new to Lubbock, Campus, or Tech in general you should give this place a try. read more

By far the best pizza in Lubbock. Although it takes a little while for your food to come out, it's absolutely wonderful and worth every minute of the wait. The employees are soooooo nice and friendly and they're so eager to make sure you get everything you asked for. The pizza is awesome and so are the calzones. The house calzone is PACKED with sausage and pepperonis and cheese. I recommend calling in your order ahead of time to cut down your wait time!! Food always comes out super hot and tastes so fresh. Portion sizes are all huge and prices are super cheap. It sounds like I was paid to write this LOL but this is my 2nd time here this week I just can't get enough of it. Four years at Tech and this will be the place I miss most. I love the pizza, people, and restaurant. If you request no cheese on your calzone they'll ask if you're allergic so they can use sterile tools and non-contaminated equipment so you don't get sick. All calzones are fresh and wonderful. The pizza is my favorite thing though. I credit this restaurant for the reason pizza is my favorite food. Everyone is friendly. Complete DUMPSTER FIRE. Reluctantly went with a friend, and ordered a Supreme Calzone, with NO BELL PEPPERS--due to allergies. I also got a fountain drink since I knew I'd be waiting a decent amount of time. Friend just got a calzone, plus a slice of pizza. They told him that he'd get his food in two to three minutes, that took them about 15 minutes. Yikes. My order, on the other hand, took a whole 20 minutes, which by itself is fine. But the thing is, they managed to screw that up. Didn't even have to open up the calzone to see huge pieces of bell peppers in there. Ended up asking for a refund, which they gave me. Originally paid I believe $10.50, plus $1.50 or $2.50 tip. They gave me back around $8 to $8.50, I don't remember the exact numbers. Of course, I had to ask for a refund twice, since they don't deserve any sort of income in my case. Ended up being a complete waste of time. Of course, I will personally never eat here ever again. It'd still be fine if it ended there, but two of the workers and the owner started being sassy about it. One had the gall to say "We'll be fine even without you." Yes, I know, but that's still not a smart thing to say. Then he mentioned how popular they are on Yelp, and that they're a big hit. That, I don't know about. I've been to over 10 countries, and this single restaurant has been the single worst piece of garbage I've ever eaten at. I've had better service, better food, and no attitude for less than 10% of the price of the food here, in the streets of third world Asian countries. The funny part is, those probably weren't nearly as unhealthy as One Guy's food, either, especially when it comes to grease. Another thing that same guy said was something along the lines of "He's just trying to get something out of us." No, not really. I'm just a broke college student trying to get my money's worth. But even with me being a broke student, I've tipped deserving waitresses upwards of 80%, which is more than you can say about most students--but nope, "he's just trying to get something out of us." Of course, if they screw up, they get a cent or two at most; no wonder you guys make us pay/tip right after ordering, huh! One other time I've been to this cesspool, the waiter just dropped the plate on the table without saying anything. Very disgusting especially when you consider how greasy the food always is. So, if One Guy from Italy/One Guy Pizza is such a big hit, why are you guys practically unknown to anyone who has never stepped in Lubbock? The only reason you guys are able to stay afloat is with the support of Lubbock residents, and Texas Tech students. Your perceived sense of "fame" would not be able to take you guys any further, you're stuck in Lubbock for a reason. Terrible food, terrible staff (Except for the cashier! She was the only one who seemed to have any damn sense), and filthy, greasy "food." Every single time I've been here, the food has either been under-cooked (doughy), overcooked (extremely dry), or just straight up wrong. If anyone reading this wants to eat at an actual decent Italian restaurant in Texas, go to "Vero Italian Kitchen." They have locations in Spring and Conroe. They're very new (established 2010) compared to One Guy's 40+ year age, but the location(s), cleanliness, staff, and food are all much, much better. Hell, even here on Yelp, they already have more ratings, and are slightly higher rated than this. TL;DR... Trashy owner, sassy staff (except for the cashier!), and there's always been something wrong with the calzones out of the four or so times I've unfortunately eaten here. read more

Always a favorite when we go to Lubbock. The house calzone is highly recommended. They take care of their customers. The most recent trip we ordered 3 House Calzones which were a really nice portion when served. However, we received additional calzones because the first ones were not the normal large portion according to our server. This was fantastic, because they heat up really well. read more

As a former grad I have many good memories here. I've been back a few times since graduating and talked it up to my wife a lot. We just ate there and it's just as good as I remember. Came on a campus visit & decided to eat somewhere close to campus. Wow did I make the right decision. You view the menu when walking in and approach counter to place order.
