We work down the street and come here regularly for lunch. Absolutely my new favorite pizza place. I could eat The Goat every other day and not get sick of it. Everyone at work has a different favorite pizza and I haven't tried one I don't like yet. They have some great appetizers, sandwiches and side items as well that you shouldn't overlook, but you have to try a pizza! The only downside to eating there is that the place is small and has busy periods, but it doesn't take them long to make a pizza, so seats will open up. The Goat pizza (honey goat cheese, asparagus, some kind of aioli, cranberry drizzle) - every time I eat it a part of my soul ascends to heaven. The Brussels is also amazing, and I didn't think I was even a huge fan of brussel sprouts or balsamic. Mashed Potato, MMMMMMMMMM. (May I suggest a sour cream drizzle?) Winter is Coming is simple but good! I want to try it again but can't stop ordering The Goat. I've only eaten the Margherita cold but I wouldn't kick it out of bed even then. The Greek (feta, spinach, roasted peppers if I remember correctly) was pretty good, not my favorite but then again, my favorite is pretty stellar. Only one I wasn't a fan of was the Hannibal, but then again, you're asking for a pizza with a ton of meat and that's not for everyone. In conclusion, I think you know which pizza to order. read more

Not recommended for vegetarians. The cheese they use is a good mild backdrop for a sausage or bacon pizza, but it's just too bland for a veggie pizza and the whole thing ends up being kind of tasteless. Their recommended veggie pizza is a honey goat cheese one with asparagus, which is unusual and certainly not for everyone. That said the meat pies are quite good- the meat is tasty and the dough is extremely fresh. Come here if you're a meat lover or want to try something usual. They are BYOB and have 3 sizes including a 10" personal pizza. read more

We had a pizza comparison competition with my family and sampled both a cheese and pepperoni from multiple pizza places in new haven. We originally tried to order from modern apizza but after 25 minutes of attempting to order without being able to get through on the phone, we decided to order from one 6 three instead. The employee who took our order was SO pleasant and the pizzas were ready in 15 minutes. They were delicious and a huge hit with our family, we're excited we found this place for our future pizza adventures! read more

Great update to an old joint in the East Rock neighborhood. The new owners are fantastic and they have done a fabulous job revamping this place over the last few months. It is a welcome addition to the New Haven pizza scene in the up and coming area just off Orange Street and 1/2 a block from Archie Moore's. Menu, pizza, decor and ambiance are great and it is a nice spot to stop by for lunch or dinner with friends or a date. Highly recommend and will definitely be going back. read more

One 6 Three - Great Pizza Joint at 163 Foster St. - Pizza Near Me - New Haven, Connecticut

We love this place, for many reasons. To start, it's in a quaint neighborhood, and the staff are down-to-earth, friendly, and thus far unrushed unlike what you'll find at most new haven pizzerias. The place is thoughtfully designed, with a mix of industrial and natural materials (eg handmade wooden slab tables). Then the food: My boyfriend and I split a large salad and 12 inch pizza, which was just right for a 2-person lunch, with some leftovers. We had The Goat, whose ingredients, though seemingly eclectic, worked well together and are a delicious departure from traditional New Haven stuff. Highly recommend it. We took home an order of fried Oreos--enough said. The ingredients in the house salad and pizza were noticeably fresh. The crust on the pizza was baked perfectly--no burns or sogginess like at BAR. We'll be back, no question, for dinner and BYOB (yes, it is BYOB). read more

One 6 Three is our favorite neighborhood family-friendly restaurant. The pizza is great and the servers are extremely friendly. It is BYOB which makes it the best value in the area too. Their appetizers and sandwiches are also great if you're not in the mood for pizza. The BBQ sriracha wings are my favorite and the chicken and waffle sandwich never disappoints. I think my daughter asks to come here just for the fried Oreos. We've been coming here for years and we never get tired of it. read more

we love this pizza place! classic thin new haven style pizza but with such creative topping combinations! great prices as well.

Has amazing pizza flavors to try! Every time my boyfriend and I go we get something different. Each flavor is remarkable and different, a lovely experience. I highly recommend The Garbage. read more

The King, a peanut butter pizza (yes, that exists!) is by far one of the better/unique pizzas I've ever had here. A must try. Other pizzas are solid but nothing to write home about for me. They'll give 10% discounts via email occassionally if you keep ordering online so sign up for that if you like to order lots of pizza! read more

Delicious pizza, friendly service, BYOB, a small gem! We started with a small order of fries which comes with two dipping sauces (the large comes with three) the two of us could not finish the yummy hand cut fries the portion was great. My daughter got the Mootz and I ordered the Fungus Among Us on the waitresses recommendation. Both pies were sooo very good. Knowing from Yelp that they offer fried Oreos for dessert we each took 1/2 of our pies to go and split an order of fried Oreo magicness. The waitress brought over a pitcher of water & mason jar glasses without even being asked. They have Foxon park bottles as well. Outside are raised garden beds with fresh herbs they use in the pizzas and allow you to pinch a bit if you live in the neighborhood. There is also the cutest dog parking station with lead clips and water bowls and while we were there an older dog paused at the door wagging and wagging the owner just smiled at us and then boom the waitress popped out with milk bones treats for this friendly canine whom she knew by name, so obviously the neighborhood pooches enjoy this eatery as well. Inside are 5 two person tables, bar seating is for about 7, and outdoor tables number about 5, they are all served by one waitress but she was kicking but the Friday evening we were there. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. On the one hand, this pizza is very good; great dough, pretty good sauce, good cheese. The apps are also quite good. On the other hand, for any *specific* pizza, there are better places in the area. I tried a variety of pies here (I've also tried a few from the pizza truck a few years back), and all of them are very good but each is done better by one place or another around New Haven. Unfortunately, I think their weakest point is their plain cheese and red sauce (The Mootz). The sauce is too sweet and the cheese doesn't quite make up for it. I think I can safely say that if you're not sure what you're looking for, or you want a lot of pies, or you just want some easy takeout, this is the place to go. I would give it five stars just for that, if not for my disappointment with The Mootz. That said, I'm sure I'll be coming here again. read more

My hubby and I stopped here for lunch. Hubby had been here before. Let me tell you, One 6 Three did NOT disappoint. The pizza and meatball sub were absolutely delicious and the fresh cut fries were out of this world. The pizza was thin with a nice char and had only the best ingredients. The staff were very friendly and hospitable. My only regrets - not wearing stretchy pants and that I don't live closer. I can't wait to go back! P.S. Their motto rocks! read more

Went to visit 2/20/23 with my husband and 15 month old daughter. The personal size pizza pies were great; unfortunately as an Afro-Hispanic family we did not feel welcomed. It was unfortunate to see white customers get treated with great hospitality and friendliness yet, when we arrived we were greeted with a rude toned "what do you need?" -- unfortunately the hostess/cashier lady as well as the people in the front, left us with a very sour taste. It broke my heart to experience this; it's just not okay -- you need to do better; specially if you promote on your instagram that "Black Lives Matter". read more

Great, fresh and creative pizza. High quality produce and ingredients. And I don't even like pizza!

Excellent pizza, with a great system for outdoor pickup. We had a broccoli rabe pie with anchovies: perfection!

I visited One 6 Three Friday evening around 8:30pm for the first time. The small restaurant was busy and there was only one server. But as a pizza lover and New Haven native I had high hopes for this place. The customer service was terrible. When me and my partner arrived we went inside to tell the woman behind the counter that we'd like to be seated outside. She told us to seat ourselves. The server walked past our table several times without acknowledging us. We waited 15 minutes then went inside again to remind the waitstaff that we were still waiting on a menu and server. Then our waitress finally arrived. She did not introduce herself. She simply shoved menus onto our table and walked away. She came back a few minutes later and we ordered our food. We ordered two pizzas and a salad. She asked if I wanted my salad before the pizza, I said yes. Well, the pizza came out before the salad. I had to remind her that I also ordered a salad--she forgot my salad! Mind you, this whole time she did not speak to us in complete sentences. She had a nasty attitude. The worst of all is that we never got a check. We had to go back inside and request our check. She never apologized for the wait. While I heard her apologizing to other parties for the wait. She was being friendly to other tables, which I thought was strange. Why was she being rude to us only? Did we do something wrong? Or is this another case of dining while black? If their pizza was better, I might have been able to ignore their deplorable customer service. But, no! The pizza was mediocre. It wasn't terrible, but there's nothing stand out about it. There are so many other pizza places in New Haven that have better pizza and courteous waitstaff. I will continue to give those places my business. Unfortunately I won't be returning and I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

I've enjoyed the pizza here every time, especially the King. I've been reluctant to return after numerous times receiving poor service, especially from the one waiter that is always there. I dined in with a friend a little over a year ago, and it was her first time eating New Haven style pizza. While it is no Modern, I figured this was an easy option for her to try some good pizza. When we didn't have our order figured out in a reasonable amount of time, the waiter was very impatient. We also hadn't seen each other in awhile, so we stayed and chatted for a bit after eating. Eventually I told her we should go because it feels like they want us to leave after all the glares we were getting. This past summer I decided to try again because I can't get enough of the King pizza. We ordered takeout because we live nearby. When we went to get the pizza after about a half hour, we were told our pizza would be another 20 minutes. They claimed to have sent an email telling us so. The inside of the restaurant was empty, so we asked if we could sit inside and wait to eat our pizza there. That was obviously a mistake because we were told as long as there was a free table we could (there was no one inside). It became a whole ordeal that we wanted to sit there instead of takeout since sit down orders have priority. Understandable, but we had been waiting for our pizza for 40 minutes by then (our pizza wasn't even in the oven yet). The glares and discussion towards us from behind the counter were ridiculous as we waited because we obviously inconvenienced them somehow. When our pizza came, the same waiter I had previously scolded us for deciding to eat inside after ordering takeout. It was like when you do something wrong in elementary school and the teacher kneels down to tell you that you were bad. That is what it felt like. We ate a small amount and took the rest home. It took us 6 months to agree to order takeout again (a few months ago) and had a better experience probably because we ordered it at 5pm rather than an hour or two later. Every time we're craving pizza, it's hard to agree to go back to One 6 Three after these experiences. read more

Pizza is really good here I enjoyed it very much! I only had the cheese pizza not the meat!

This review is based off of experience prior to covid. In short, of the four instances I ate here, three were met with great food. One wasn't but it could be tossed up to margin of error. While the food/pizza are worth getting; my only gripe would be with the server. He's usually very short with you and not particularly approachable. It's fine because as I've already stated, the meals are satisfying. read more

I know this is blasphemous in New Haven but I have tried clam pizza at Modern, Sally's and Pepes. One 6 Three does it at another level. This is my absolute favorite go-to pizza spot. All the traditional New Haven Pizza spots were packed since it was late on a Saturday night. We stopped in for a quick pie after reading the great reviews. We grabbed some beers (love The BYOB) down the street and got the last table inside. Very cool vibe and great service. We had a large mooz and one of the specials of the day...spinach, mooz, ricotta, fresh garlic, and sausage (or pepperoni). Pies were very tasty. Thin light crust, nice charring, and all toppings were good and fresh. Can't wait to go back and try some other pies. read more

Great pizza and friendly staff! I particularly love their "the Goat" and "Fungus Among Us" as great vegetarian options.

Stopped by after long walk to East rock. Really hungry. Ordered the large Caesar salad. Server said it was really large but we said we were hungry. But when it came out it was indeed enough to feed four adults!! We ordered a large pizza as well. Both items were absolutely delicious. Great food. Generous portions. Friendly service. BYOB but a brewery around the Highly recommend. read more

Thanks to Muhammad E. for selling this spot to my colleagues and me for dinner while in New Haven tonight! One 6 Three isn't a large place - the pizza oven and part of the kitchen take up half the indoor seating. Maybe tables for 12 and another 6+ seats at the bar area to eat. Note: they do NOT serve alcohol but you are welcome to bring your own (BYOB!) for a one-time customer fee of $5. ($$ saver!) There are a few tables outside also. Even if we weren't in expense account, the prices are very reasonable and there are so many items you should try! I just came from a road 1,300+ mile trip in Wisconsin and fell in love with cheese curds. This was the first item up for order. While not the same batter as what I had there, still very good and super light when you bite into them. Ranch dressing all the way for the dipping. Fried pickles and hush puppies were ok - not my top choice to spend my calories though. The sriracha honey wings were Great! I like my wings well cooked and not heavily breaded. These were naked style with a very crunchy skin and slathered in a sticky sauce that was a perfect bend of honey and sriracha. Home run! We got the last two pieces of the caramelized bacon aka: Pig Candy and our table loved it! Pizza time! White clam was the right mix of clams with garlic to make it so good. The Hannibal tied it for best pizza. Sweet & Salami next best with the honey not too over-powering but definitely there and a great contrast to the hot cherry peppers that gave the needed even heat across each bite. The Memphis was good but I felt it a bit on the sweet side for my palate. And the Potato Head. Good mashed potatoes and I liked the crunch and flavor of the scallion to cut the heaviness but overall, the last of the five in ranking. Although we had three to go boxes, we could NOT leave without ordering the Fried Oreos. Great funnel cake batter on the outside with powdered sugar and oreos inside! Not as deep fried as some carnivals make them and the oreo wasn't too melted that it maintained some structure. Another win!!! Another thing, if you are opting to share the pizzas across the table and want to try more of them - order the small. It was the right move for us. Service, great. Fast. Personable. Friendly. What a GREAT find in New Haven!!!! read more

One of the best pizza places in New Haven. We purchased the GOAT pie and cheese curds tonight (our norm) and it's always consistently good! If you're looking for amazing food, you have to come here. Not only is their food delicious, it is also creative. My favorite pizza is The King which is pretty much a PBnJ pizza..... with bacon! They have normal/standard pies as well, but if you're feeling adventurous try The King or The Goat. Both are amazing and you will not regret it. If you're super hungry I recommend the Brussels for an app and their Fried Oreos for dessert. You'll be happy you came to this restaurant, and you won't be able to wait to go again and try something new. Highly Recommended. read more

This place is located in a convenient spot in East Rock - it has a lot of free street parking and is right down the street from the freeway exit. Seating in here is pretty limited especially during the winter when there isn't outside seating. But there is a lot of bar space and five tables of two which can be combined for larger parties. That being said I think its worth to stop by and try! The service here is always excellent. The freshly cut fries are the perfect amount of soft, crunchy and salty. A small batch will give you two sauces, versus the large size (which is the size of a salad bowl) will come with three sauces. The pizza does not have the conventional "New Haven style" crust, but I personally like this thinner style (thinNER not thin)-it still has a lot of volume. I really liked Potato Head (tastes like mashed potatoes with bacon). The Brussels and the Scamp are also pretty good too. Between two people we shared a 12" pizza (8 slices) and a large size of fires (I wish we had ordered a small). With good service, the tasty food and the warm/inviting ambiance I'm glad that there is a place in East Rock to enjoy. read more

I don't always leave reviews, but when I do it's because the staff is super freaking friendly, the place is way cheaper than it should be (price wise), and they have CHEESE CURDS FROM WISCONSON. IF YOU LIKE CHEESE GET OVER HERE ASAP AND ORDER MULTIPLE ORDERS (you're not gonna wanna share). Had the personal pie which solid. Also tried the mushroom one which was probably even better. French fries are also off the hook, def recommend to get. Lastly, also definitely order the wings. The siracha honey was superb, I licked the remainder of the sauce from the plate. Been in New Haven for ~8 months, this is one of my new favorite places for sure. read more

Yummmm! Great selection of pizza at a pretty reasonable price. This place is a local hidden gem. We had 1 buffalo chicken pizza and 1 meat pizza. Not too thin and certainly not thick but a great consistency. Their freshly cut fries are also a great addition to your pizza. This place is also BYOB which is amazing in its self. Tiny space, with a few tables/chairs and a side bar-like area to feast. The staff was very laid back and friendly. Definitely worth a try, you wont regret going here! read more

This is legit wood fired New Haven style apizza. I took a chance on the Caesar's salad and was pleasantly surprised with a very good one. My one regret is that I didn't go with the large! We followed that up with hot sausage pie, it wasn't too spicy. I've lived in the neighborhood for a couple of years and have had it as take out and enjoyed it, but nothing better than a pie fresh from the oven that doesn't see a box. comfortable decor and friendly staff behind the counter. One of the best pies in New Haven, hands down. One-6-Three shines by having a thin, chewy crust slightly less toasted than the average pie in New Haven. The restaurant grew out of a food truck, and those roots are still there. The actual dining space is small and rustic in decor. Most diners actually grab takeout and the place does brisk business with the local community. (pro-tip don't sit by the door in Winter. While the oven keeps the place warm, so many people are in and out for the pies that cold air inevitably creeps in.) If you ever were lured into BAR hoping for a great Mashed Potato Pie and left disappointing, you are in luck. One-6-Three has a better potato pizza by leaps and bounds. One-6-Three is a true neighborhood pizzeria, set far back from the busy State Street and far away from the crowded Wooster Square. If you want to eat like locals, this is certainly one of the places to do so. read more

This place is the best! I've tried Pepe's, Modern, and most of the other reputable pizza places in New Haven, however, I keep coming back to One 6 Three. We stop in at least once a month to split a pizza and BYOB. Their fries are really good too, especially when paired with the basil aioli dipping sauce. This past weekend I had a few friends visit for New Year's Eve. When deciding the places in our neighborhood we had to show them, One 6 Three was on the list. A little nervous that they'd be able to accommodate our group of 5 (this place is pretty small), I called ahead and they were super helpful. We came in, enjoyed our food, and eventually witnessed one employee propose to another. There was champagne for everyone! One 6 Three is what small businesses are all about. I haven't lived in the area for very long but I've heard that a fair share of businesses have come and gone through this space. I really hope that One 6 Three is here to stay! read more

New Haven has enjoyed a very rich and varied history of Pizza. I first came to One 6 Three within it first opening and have seen it grow into something that represents that logical extension of the pizza tradition present in New Haven. I think the most important part of this establishment is that it is my neighborhood haunt. I will take all of my friends visiting from out of town here. New Haven is known for its pizza, so here is a prime example. It is a quick walk from my home, and has that perfectly unpretentious, warm and welcoming feeling of a place that has always been here. The pizza is quickly prepared in a wood-fired oven, and their apps are delicious. I personally fell in love with this place over their cheese curds. Which, in spite of how simple they are, nobody on the east coast seems to know how to get right. The batter is simple and light and they serve it with homemade ranch and marinara sauces. If cheese curds are uninteresting to some, their meatballs and poutine are great and more substantial apps that I would definitely recommend. I have not had a single pizza here that I haven't enjoyed. My personal favorite is the Breakin' My Meatballs, followed closely by the Goat. If you're feeling a more funky direction, try The King or the new Fluffer Nutter Pizza. Sweet and savory, but the heaviness of the Peanut butter in both cases is carried on the lightness of a wood-fired crust. A tremendous game-changer for this place is their BYOB policy. There is something to be said about bringing your favorite six pack or a great bottle of wine, and enjoying it with your pizza. I consistently look forward to coming here, and only hope the best for these guys. They're hard workers and an excellent addition to the rich variety of New Haven Pizza. read more
