If dining in, the staff is top-notch and very family-oriented and friendly. It came out without the pasta as an app, which they brought back, threw it over some pasta and served it up again. I get it. Salad that came with that entree never came even though we had a discussion with the server about it while ordering. Had to ask for it. Came out without the wrong dressing. Things happen, I get it. The first time we went to New Haven Pizza Place over a year ago, part of the bottom was burned. Not just the "char" but burned. Still edible, but importantly, the flavor was very good. And the Caesar salad was great. So, we gave it another try. We've now had New Haven Pizza Place a half dozen times, at least. Every single time the pizza is GREAT! We've had the pepperoni, mushroom (side note: I don't ever get mushroom, but this mushroom is fantastic), sausage--I think a few special pies too?--plus, just had the original tomato pie tonight--delicious! Recently came here with my friends and my fiancé for some dinner. We came around 7:30 and the place was bustling! We ordered the garlic knots to start and they were great! Light and airy! Delicious. I opted for small chicken parm pizza, my fiancé had the garlic bread pizza and my friends had a large half cheese half sausage. The crust on the pizza was phenomal! Nice taste and chew like the New Haven greats. Sauce was also great too and cheese! I wasn't a fan of the chicken on my pizza however as it was really dried out. I recently visited New Haven Pizza Place with a friend who is a New Haven pizza fan and fellow Food Blogger. We had attended a pizza making class this year and one of the people there had recommended NHPP for pizza in the Milford area. We ordered a large Mozzarella with red sauce, and a small Specialty pizza with eggplant, meatballs and chicken cutlet pieces, which was too original to pass up. We ate there at one of several tables. The atmosphere was fine, but not really a draw. One of the old Patriots' Super Bowl games was on the television. Service was very friendly. When I think about New Haven style pizza, my mind goes to the crust. I thought NHPP nailed the crust. Thin. Good mix of crisp and chewy. Good char. A legit NH crust. The other parts of the pizza were fairly good. For the Mozzarella, neither the cheese nor the sauce popped for me, but they were both decent. The meat components of the Special Pizza were pretty good, but they didn't seem to compliment each other. If I returned I might try something like a pepperoni and peppers, because the crust was so good, it's really just a matter of finding your order at NHPP. New Haven Pizza Place is a New Haven-style pizzeria that opened in Milford, Connecticut in November 2017. It was founded by pizzaiolo Frank Bernardo and his wife Joanna. The Bernardo Family plays a large role in Greater New Haven's rich pizza history. Family patriarch Luigi "Gigi" Bernardo immigrated to New Haven from Naples, Italy in the 1960s. In 1974, Gigi opened his own business "Gigi's Bakery" on Chapel Street where he made baked goods and pizza. The family moved the business to Grand Avenue in 1982 and they continued to operate it until Gigi's retirement in 2001. He passed away in 2009. Gigi passed down his culinary talents to his seven children (including sons Frank, Arsenio and Luigi Jr who all became pizzaioli). In 2013, Frank modified a 1946 International Harvester fire truck into a mobile wood-fired pizza truck and thus the New Haven Pizza Truck was born! The truck became very popular with customers as it traveled around Southern Connecticut visiting wineries, breweries and festivals. Eventually Frank and Joanna decided to bring their delicious wood-fired pizza to a brick and mortar location in Milford. In late 2021, Frank decided to take a step back to focus exclusively on the pizza truck. Since that time, the pizzeria has been operated by his brother Arsenio and his niece Amanda. When the unit next door became available, Amanda and Arsenio decided to expand the pizzeria with a new bar and dining room that opened in February 2023. Last week my family and I visited New Haven Pizza Place for dinner. We had previously sampled their pizza from the truck, but this was our first visit in the brick and mortar location. My wife's uncle (who lives nearby) joined us and we were all seated in their beautiful new bar and dining room. For cocktails, I had "The Sinatra" (Tanqueray gin, Campari, sweet vermouth, orange bitters, fresh orange wedge) and my wife had the "Amanda's Sangria" (red wine, seasonal fruit, limoncello, club soda). These were classic Italian-style cocktails and very flavorful. For an appetizer, our waitress recommended Bruschetta for the table to share. The presentation was very nice and the flavors were so good! For pizza, we ordered a "Classic Mozzarella" Pie (with half pepperoni) and the "Mashed Potato Special" (mashed potato, bacon, caramelized onions, mozzarella). The ingredients were great and the crust was so thin and perfect. We washed everything down with some Foxon Park White Birch Beer. There were no leftovers by the end of the evening. We were so full; no room for dessert. I must tip my hat to the owners and the staff. We all had a memorable experience at the New Haven Pizza Place and we look forward to returning! read more

New Haven Pizza Place provides a very inconsistent experience across both service and pizza quality. You can call ahead for takeout, arrive at the scheduled time, and still wait 25 minutes for your pizza. Or you can show up on time, pizza is ready to go, but you are presented with a cold pizza. It's really a roll of the dice here. I've had awesome pizza here and then two weeks later I get below average cold pizza. I just don't think they really care. They get a ton of business and are not incentivized to dial in on providing a consistent takeout experience. The restaurant definitely focuses more on dine-in, and if you're looking to try this spot out, I would recommend going dine-in. Milford has plenty of other pizza spots that actually respect pickup order times and strive to give their customers a hot and fresh pizza on the agreed upon time. New Haven Pizza place just is not one of those spots. read more

This has become our go-to spot! Excellent and attentive service, great selection options and it's sooooo tasty. The sauce is remarkable. Had the baked ziti dinner the other night and although I wanted to take half home, I couldn't stop myself until it was all gone! My wife had the eggplant rollatini and that was tasty too! Salad and bread were excellent, portions were good-sized and the bill was reasonable. The only negative thing I can say is that the place can get loud if you're eating in the bar area. Upon arriving at the plaza New Haven Pizza place looks small and quite frankly not that. Impressive. Then, you walk through the door and the surprises begin; the delicious aroma and the great space. They have a spacious sit in area and large bar area. They have a varied menu with delicious pizza shop options. I frankly had a difficult time narrowing down my choices. We enjoyed the cheesy garlic bread, garlic Parmesan wings and the large cheese pizza. Everything was delicious. The only thing I would change a bit is the sauce as it was a little sweet for my taste. I can't wait to return and try out more of their dishes; the arancini balls and Philly cheesesteak rolls were calling my name. The service was ok; the waitress was pleasant but not very attentive. It took a while for someone to come to the table and once the drinks arrived we didn't see her again. We had to go to the cashier to get our check and takeout containers. So nice to be able to get a good pizza without having to drive to New Haven. Additionally, they have a nice Happy Hour menu with discounted drinks and apps. On our last two visits we had the Happy Hour wings to start, then had the Don Meat pie along with a glass of wine. The pizza was perfectly done as requested because we don't like a charred crust. The pizza was excellent. We had the hot oil pizza. I would highly recommend calling them directly versus using PayPal, etc. as there is a tremendous price difference - $27 through PayPal versus $17 calling them directly. The only downside is- they do not appear to have there own website. read more

The people were so nice but the problem I have is when I got home and the pizza is burnt. Very disappointed considering the price I paid for two pizzas and two sodas. Update: When I called about the burnt pizza they gave two options which I went with one but then changed my mind but as I was trying to figure it out the lady just seemed annoyed and had to point out that there were other people waiting on the phone and how there was some people in front of her waiting. Which I get but, no need to tell me that it's not my problem. My dad goes to pick the pizza up and it's still a little burnt and the workers there had attitudes and saying they wanted the pizza we had back. FABULOUS little pizzeria in the Adam's IGA strip mall right in Milford! I was in the area picking up an item from FB Mktplace & I was CRAVING a really authentic delicious pizza. I hopped on Yelp & BAM! Located right down the street & had FANTASTIC REVIEWS! It was 8 pm on Friday night & they were doing a brisk takeout business! It's a typical size for a strip mall pizzeria but they had about 7 large booths for six lined along the wall across from the kitchen. When I walked in, I smelled the lovely fresh pizza crust & roasted ingredients. YUM! The young lady, Amanda, greeted me cheerily & immediately. I asked to dine in which she happily & quickly obliged. She showed me to another smaller booth & then quickly delivered a frosty cold Pilsner glass & a icy cold Peroni beer FTW! LOVED that they had Italian beer! (One of my favorite pilsners too!) I am in a pizza desert of sorts so I was super excited when I stumbled onto this little GEM! The specialty pizza selection was VARIED & PHENOMENAL. She told me they could do half of 2 different types. YES! I settled on the broccoli rabe with red sauce & the other half the chicken, spinach, garlic white pizza. Perfect portions! Thin crust with a slight char & crisp but a lovely slight chewy texture. It was perfectly decorated with a bunch of fresh quality toppings. The broccoli rabe sausage was DELISH. And the Chicken, spinach, garlic & lemon was equally as satisfying. BOTH were seasoned PERFECTLY! No need for ANY pepper, salt, garlic, pepper flakes, etc. i ended up eating all the broccoli rabe sausage & saved the remaining Lemon, Spinach Chicken for lunch tomorrow! They have 2 large flat screen tv's on the walls for customers & lots of cute Italian memorabilia. They have a mix of italian oldies with some more updated rock staples at a nice audible level. The menu encompasses a wide variety of items; grinders, wraps, pasta dinners, wings, salads, calzones, & stuffed breads, They also have a nice little selection of beer & wine, sodas, pastries, desserts & even fresh Italian bread. Their classic pizza or apizza has the most phenomenal tomato sauce with garlic and surprisingly no cheese!
