in November i was contracted to install a front door to my residence. The person assigned to do the work name was Willy with a company called On The Level. . He showed up installed the door and advised me that he would be back in a couple of days to do the caulking around the door and the frame. A couple door of days passed and no contact from this person. I reached out to the company and he was eventually dispatched to come back and complete the work. He came back out After dusk. I was not home and upon my return the next Day I checked the door and the caulking was horrible. (Pictures taken) I reached out to the company sent them pictures to show the work and they agreed that the caulking was not done well. So for the past four months, I have been fighting with this company to have him come out and redo the work. It has been one lie after another. . He's coming. He's not coming. It's raining. It's cold. We're not responsible for the caulking, we're not responsible for the match. My last lie from them was that Willy has all the caulking and paint to match and will be there Wednesday between 4-5pm. I rushed right home from work to make sure I was there on time. at 5:45 beautiful day 85° weather AGAIN no CALL no show I immediately emailed Georgia advising her that Willie had not showed up or called Today I called the office and was told "oh it rained yesterday he's coming Saturday ". It did not rain. at all on yesterday. it they were so quick to lie rather than apologize. As you can tell I have had it with this company and will file a complaint with Home Depot as well. We have used OTL twice as a Home Depot subcontractor on two door installs. One was a challenging installation of a double Andersen screen door. Very few companies want to touch them - they are unusual. OTL had a real expert on staff and he had no difficulty completing it. The second was an interior 15-light French door. That installation was flawless. I know OTL gets mixed reviews, but in both cases for us they were easy to deal with, very reasonably priced and the work was very good. YMMV. read more

One of the 2-3 worst contractors I've worked with. They were a sub for a HomeDepot cabinet install. The installers pretty much ignored all requests and discussion while the install was progressing. Extremely disrespectful from both the foreman and especially the office staff. There was a mistake on the height of the cabinets and they were extremely, extremely disrespectful, obstinate and just plain mean dealing with them on trying to fix that issue as well as others. They were paid for the whole job and while the install they did complete was competent (note they didnt have to do like 1/3 the work including not installing the pulls), they charged for a whole day and only worked 5 hours. After several weeks, I finally just gave up and install the rest of the cabinets myself. Do not recommend. read more

As left on Google reviews also: Used this company through Home Depot to measure our doors. Unfortunately they do not offer any assurance of standing by their measurements unless you also use them to install. Measured our front door wrong which made it a custom order door at $250. more than the standard door. When our installer went to install, we found out that the door should have been the standard 36x80 instead. The custom door was smaller and would have made getting furniture through it harder. Not only did they cause us to order a door we didn't need, we also then had to go purchase a stock door that would work. When we got their contact from Home Depot to see if they would be willing to make it right somehow. When my husband asked to speak to a manager just got questioned on what it was about. The person we spoke then asked if we were the Home Depot customer with the measure issue. He would not provide his license number and/or address and said it was on us because we didn't use them to install. He then hung up on us. I do not recommend this company as they will not only fail to take responsibility for mistakes they make but will also then be rude as well. read more

On the Level, a business contracted by Home Depot, is the worst company I have ever worked with. They are very unorganized and unprofessional. On their website, they state that they are BBB accredited. They are not. It is one of many untruths will they tell. If you happen to be a women, you should especially stay away. The owner of the company does not respect women and will not hesitate to be rude to you. Unless you want an extremely frustrating experience, do not do business with this company. They installed a kitchen faucet that I purchased from Home Depot. I tried them out even with mixed reviews on this site because the reviews were for door stuff. Pros: - Installation successful without any problems. Been a few weeks. No leaks under the sink - Friendly installers - Upfront pricing via the Home Depot (used them to find the contractor). They didn't have to visit just to give me a quote. Cons: - Asked for their license number so I could verify their plumbing license on the state website. Was difficult getting the license number from them. Was questioned in a phone call about why I needed it. Was told to email to ask for it and then didn't receive a response. Had to call them again. Much easier to verify other contractors. read more

Home Depot sent this company to install the door we bought. They installed it poorly, failed to acknowledge a defect, had to borrow a Phillips head screwdriver, and tried to pass off as 'finished', locking door with either deadbolt _OR_ doorknob but not both ("I'm a doorman! I do doors!). We challenged installer James to fix it and found his repair unacceptable (along with swearing "I said watch your step dammit" at my daughter). But he said "there's nothing I can do" and left. Called, emailed and visited home Depot manager - they apologized and results are pending. Then the OTL "manager" George called and kept insisting how "fantastic" his installer was. Claimed installer enlarged mortise--he didn't. Never acknowledged OTL mistakes, said we just didn't like James and shifted accountability to the manufacturer. Told me to take it up with home Depot and hung up. I don't recommend using this company for anything. In the 9 hours installing the door, James had ample opportunity to bring to light manufacturer defects and ask our input. Not worth $99 much less $700 we paid for installation. read more

This company states it works with Lowes and Home Depot. I ordered a countertop from Home Depot and they were to send a plumber to reconnect the plumbing after it was installed. I paid $400 dollars for this service. When I called, they stated the countertop installers were to do the plumbing work. When my husband contacted Home Depot and they talked with On the Level, they were told the amount wasn't enough so Home Depot provide them additional funds so they just filed the request. The following day the plumber came two hours late. First he said the said the current set up wasn't correct and wouldn't meet code. Since we are getting ready to sell, I agreed to pay and extra $100 to correct that. Next he hooked up the lines and behold, there was a leak that hadn't been there before. For another $125 he would fix the problem. Then he went to hook up the garbage disposal. Oh my, it's leaking because it's rusted - come look. If you go to Home Depot and get a new one we'll install it for free. The plumber kept insisting it wasn't him and left without completing the job. Very incompetent and greedy!! Consumer beware. If going through Home Depot, hire your own plumber instead of using this company. read more

They did an installment through home depot that resulted in being faulty. Through the claim process, the manager (George) fabricated lies of how the damage occurred. This was very disturbing to me. Just avoid them & Home Depot installments at all costs. The damages werent that costly, but the manager from the get go was denying any accountability before even making an inspection. I paid HD for 2 special order doors and installation. HD does not have more than one installer, its a monopoly. The outcome was awful. The installer installed 2 damaged doors and 2 damaged door jams immediately seeing nail holes and painted patchwork on door jams/doors. The screws they put in did not match the hinges, the trim work corners did not lay flat, the shoe molding needed a miter saw, none was brought. I would not recommend these installers to anyone, I also see white speckled caulking on the door sweep. read more

I have worked with quite a few service providers and hands down, OTL's commitment to your job is the best I have experience - and that you will ever experience. Peter goes above beyond. My mom and I hired him to redo the basement at my childhood house, after a series of water-related issues had destroyed the basement. Our job was big - it involved gutting the entire basement, including scrapping a lot of the studs, redoing the wiring, moving a radon pipe, and redoing some of the water pipes. Our task for Peter/OTL was to create a flow through the basement (we had a series of odd spaces and turns), create storage, redo the bathroom, create a laundry area, add a kitchenette, build out an office, and redo the rec room space in the basement. That's to say, it was a tall task. I would hire Peter for every part of my house (I plan to hire him to redo the bathrooms in my house) and my mom is already ready to hire him for her passion project - turning our porch into a sunroom. Peter/OTL executed flawlessly. He was patient and kind with me and my mom as we worked through our options for designs and decisions. We had a VERY tight budget that Peter worked within but still got us everything we wanted. He was creative with options and solutions and would not rest until there was a solution - and a good one. I really want to emphasize the patience; my mom has never been through a project like this. It took her a while to get comfortable making decisions, big and little. Peter allowed her to take her time and would answer each and every one of her questions, no matter how obvious the answer might have been. He delved into details and steps much further in advance, providing her information so she could process. OTL and Peter are incredibly transparent and honest. He does not overcharge and ensures competitive prices. He also advises on how to get more for you money, even if it's a detriment to him as a contractor. Peter's focus on a customer is to do whatever he can to make them happier and their job better. What I especially appreciated was how communicative Peter was - almost to a fault. I always knew what he and his team were working on, if there were any issues, and what our next steps were. OTL used an online site to schedule the job and stayed on track through most of the schedule. Going back to Peter going above and beyond - he did so many extra things for us at no cost. Along the project, we decided to add an exterior light (which he changed for us), absorbed the cost of some pipe rework (which we weren't planning to do immediately), came late in the evenings to check out wires I wanted removed, and gave us option after option when we were picking tile. He met us a few times at different tile stores and ran errands, picking up and dropping off tile samples. There was plenty of other stuff as well that I'm sure I'm forgetting. Hire On the Level. When I called to ask for it back they said "you didn't say we couldn't take it" and George proceeded to yell at me and then hang up on me. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COST. They are extremely unprofessional. Still upset about the recent experience. They are contracted via Home Depot. And now because of their unprofessional behavior, I will never buy any appliances from Home Depot because of this terrible company. I simply asked for a breakdown of the estimate they provided. They did not include any line items on their estimate. Like most customers, I'm trying to compare prices and services. As I was asking for the breakdown of the estimate, I was comparing the prices to lowes as their (Lowes) estimate was broken out. The rude ignorant unprofessional chic in the background literally said "well then go to lowes!" I heard her clear as day and it sent me over the edge. First off, your estimate has zero details so how is a customer supposed to know what's included. Then you send your customers to the competitors. Avoid this raggedy company. Simple task. Install a Storm Door. The office personnel are rude and will not let the customer finish talking. I was not happy at the fact that they called twice and could not reach me. They could have in turn had Home Depot call me. Instead, they were upset that my voice mail was full. They made an appointment between 1-4. The person got here after 3 and was taking a long time to do things. I had to go. When I got back the job was not finished. I called to ask why. Obviously, I'm not happy. One of the most important pieces is not on the door. So it swings open. Which can cause the door to become unstable. But, the person that I spoke with didn't let me vent. They wanted to continuously talk over me. That is not good customer service. You let the customer speak. Once there is silence, you get your turn. The person on the phone didn't seem to care if I was happy or not. Unfortunately, Home Depot only uses this one Company. Sad that I now have to finish the job myself. Or hire someone to do so. No wonder the overrating is 3.0. read more

We paid $49 to receive an estimate to get our kitchen remodeled (95% of contractors do this for free!) Chris contacted me by phone to set up an estimate however he was reluctant to provide me with his full name so I could verify him with the name Home Depot provided - Strike one. He told me that he only worked on weekdays until 1600 and no weekends (not convenient for a working couple). I said I would consult with my wife and call back with a day during the week we both could leave work early. I called back and he told me he would work Saturday around his personal business, great I said. Saturday between 1000-1400 was the window to meet and he would call me on Thursday or Friday to define the time. No call on Thursday or Friday - strike two. I texted him on Saturday at 0900 to see if and when he was going to show up... he texted me back with sometime after 1100? At 1245 we wanted to get on with our day since we blew the morning waiting on him! He arrived at 1300 and opened up with a statement that he told me he had personal business!!! No greeting or no apology for his horrible communication/coordination for this job - strike three. I told him he didn't call me as promised, I had to Initiate the meeting time, and we stayed home all morning waiting on him because of his lack of communication. He got pissed, stormed of my porch and told me this meeting was canceled and he left my property. We went to HD and were refunded our money. They just came to install a barn door inside our home. They did not think through carefully before the execution. They should have compared the door width, the door opening and the rail length to determine the correct mounting locations of the wheels to the door and of the rail to the wall. The rail was installed in such a way that several inches of the length was wasted and left unused. Since the rail was not long enough to give an excess length, they have to carefully plan it before the installation, but they didn't do that. So they have to come back to finish the job. read more

We ordered an exterior door from Home Depot, and Home Depot designated On the Level to do the installation. It was a special order door and difficult to replace. The door along with the installers arrived yesterday, which included a two man crew lead by a person named Jamie. Jamie was outstanding....fast, professional, polite and extremely competent. I can't say enough good things about him and the exceptional job he did. I don't know if the whole company has this caliber of personnel, but certainly if you need to have door repair or replacement calling the company and requesting Jamie will serve you well. read more

Purchased new door and security door from Home Depot. They are Home Depot's contracted installers. Manufacture though sent Home Depot a door with defects and the installers worked with me to help photo the defective door and return it to Home Depot for a replacement. The actual installation of my doors was accomplished with no problems at all. read more

We didn't hire them directly - rather they were the contractor used by Home Depot for a bathroom renovation we did a few years ago. Everything during construction was a hassle, was delayed, and much of the work needed to be re-done at the time. Two years later, the work that On The Level did is so shoddy that everything is falling apart. The towel rack fell off the wall because it was not mounted properly, the baseboards were not installed correctly and peeled away from the wall, all of the caulking has needed to be re-done, the toilet that they installed is loose. We recently had a different contractor do some other work in the house, and discovered that On The Level took numerous shortcuts with their work that we're now stuck with. A few months after the work was done I phoned Home Depot to follow up on some warranty issues with the original installation. I was informed that they have severed their contract with OTL.
