These guys were amazing! First, I have to say there were NO hidden charges. The estimate was spot on. I loved that Michael asked questions as he was working. Had to cut holes in the ceiling and he explained why and if I was good where he cut. He cleaned up after himself and made sure I was happy with his job. I called Dependable One Electrical based on their great reviews after a weekend of no electricity in my main bathroom. Steve said they would try to work me into their full schedule today or tomorrow. An hour later, he called me to say Nick would be by in 30 minutes, on his way between calls. Nick arrived on time, was knowledgeable about my problem, and had it repaired in 15 minutes. When I asked him about my 50+ year-old circuit breaker box and whether I should replace it, he took a look at it and told me it was one of the best, still had available breakers, and there was no need to replace it. My repair was reasonably priced, Nick was efficient and honest. I wouldn't hesitate to call again when I have a need or to recommend Dependable Electrical. read more

I've never done a review of a local business I didn't actually use, but check this out. I bought a new outside porch light and installed it, which is about the limit of my electrical ability. When I switched it on, it began to flash on and off systematically. Checked the connections, and they looked ok. Went on Yelp, found these folks and called them. The gent who answered the phone (Steve) walked me thru a couple of questions. Yes, it is LED. Yes I have dimmers on the circuit it shares. He suggested I try turning off all the dimmable light fixtures on the circuit, then trying the an LED bulbin the light, then trying a conventional (incandescent/non-LED) bulb. The fixture kept flashing with a LED bulb, but worked properly with an incandescent. I knew I shouldn't use an LED fixture on an LED switch, but I didn't know the LED current variations could operate across a larger circuit. With a 5 minute conversation, Steve saved me $200 or so for a service call. It's just good business to avoid costing customers money if you can, but these days folks would rather show up and charge you than solve a simple problem. Thank you Steve and Dependable One. I see why they have a five-star rating, and I'm keeping their contact info for the next time I really do need an electrician. Highly recommended. read more

We have been using Dependable One Electrical for years, because they live up to their name. They are reliable, responsible, friendly, honest, trustworthy, and professional. They aren't in the business just to make money. They truly care about their customers. I've called a couple of times with questions or concerns about an electrical issue, and while they could have come out and charged me for a diagnostic fee or service charge, they were able to diagnose my problems right over the phone. On the occasions they did come to our home, to install attic fans, extra lighting, and wiring, we have been extremely impressed with their company. Extremely expensive and unresponsive. We had a service call to help with some external lighting/outlet issues. The tech, Mike, was very polite and knowledgeable. We had a bill for $495 for the visit. Services performed were the investigation of the lack of power, plus an outlet was replace - found during analysis - the core issue(s) were not resolved. To Mike's credit, the power issue turned out to be a breaker tripped that was not located in the normal panel, which we self-resolved. We called to discuss the high charge for the minimal results and they did not have the courtesy to even call us back. Needless to say, we did not pursue having them come back out again to try and "finish" the work. Extremely disappointed and would not hire again. read more

Seriously the best service and execution I could have hoped for. Needed to have 12 recessed lights put in, replace a fluorescent light with a chandelier, and replace a ceiling fan. This required a slew of new wiring. Steve was able to do a walk-through of the project on Facetime, and provide a quote just a couple days later. The quote was reasonable and we went with Dependable One. I really thought "oh oh...here we go. It'll be weeks before he'll be able to get the job done." I was wrong. We spoke on Monday, and he was here on Thursday, and noted that he may need Friday morning to finish up. Steve and his crew arrived when they said they would, masked, professional, polite - and funny! They drop-clothed everything - beyond what I thought was necessary. I was expecting my walls and ceiling to be swiss cheese - yet 12 recessed lights were installed with only two small holes that needed patching. They finished the job mid-afternoon, cleaned, vacuumed - and made sure I was satisfied with the work. The invoice was for exactly what was quoted. Could not be happier with the quality of the work, timeliness from quote to execution, and follow-up. The crew has been working together for over 10 years and it shows. So far I have been very impressed with this electrician. We asked him to provide an estimate and it could have been an opportunity for him to upsell us on a bunch of improvements (as one expert had already scared us). Thank goodness we got his info from a friend. Instead of 'upselling', the things he suggested were very reasonable and he also discussed the pros and cons of improvements (i.e. what we might want to wait to do a couple of years down the road and why it might be worth waiting). This is what we needed since it will allow us to save money until we're more ready to do a larger scale renovation. The only reasons I have not given a 5 star rating: I felt it would be unfair to give a higher rating until completed the work with him (it's in progress). I will also say he's been a tiny bit slow to respond to emails (compared to my Type-A preference), but I wouldn't put it outside the range of normal, and he's been far more responsive than my plumber for example. He'll always pick up the phone whereas I play phone tag with my plumber. I think this is just the nature of the work, with people often on the road, and he mentioned he's been short staffed recently. As for the other reviewer on here who commented. Obviously, I can't say much about their personal experience, but I will add the following: I can do some basic electrical and frankly I (a normally polite woman) will curse like a sailor when I encounter bad wiring. Is it a good habit? No, but I can relate. I will also say from personal experience that getting an accurately labeled circuit box is actually pretty valuable from a safety perspective. I have had the personal experience of discovering the power in a room wasn't off (even though the poorly labeled associated breakers are off) *as I was connecting the light fixture*. I was horrified when the light lit up just as I connected it. We realized that, mysteriously, the kitchen lights are on the same breakers as the master bedroom, even though everything else in the kitchen is on other breakers.Thankfully, no harm done, but there are many instances (for example water damage and pooling in an area, installation of new appliances or fixtures), where you will want to be sure the power is completely off. read more

When hiring a contractor, there are three variables: Good, Fast, Cheap. But you have a choice of two. I wouldn't say that Steve is cheap. But that's more than made up for by good and fast. We have an antique chandelier that was wired many years ago and it was causing the dimmer switch to fail. We described the problem on the company's web site and they contacted us the next day! Steve came over and tested the circuit and found the problem. It was not easy to find a replacement for the part that failed. Steve called us every day to give us an update on finding the part and before a week had passed since the start, he returned to repair the fixture and test the circuit. Electrician spent an hour on labeling the electrical panel and installing a chain switch for a Home Inspection. Cost was $550! Very expensive and very unfriendly. He curses while does his work. Seemed very unprofessional and took advantage of the situation since it was a Home Inspection. I just needed it to get it done. You should stay away from this one. read more

Highly recommend Steve and his team for electrical work. He's done work at my home and business. Unlike some other contractors he doesn't try and sell you things you don't need. He gets to the root of the problem quickly, but is meticulous in making sure everything is correct. I have a crazy web of wires running through my basement from multiple renovations that weren't removed or updated correctly, and I was surprised at his patience with it honestly.
