It was very easy to book with AJ Long. We booked on the website - easy peasy. Jeremy showed up on time and was quick to get to work. I walked him through our 3 issues with porch lights, bathroom light, and the kitchen light. He patiently listened and then immediately got to work. Upon completion, he explained the issues and made sure I understood why they happened. He made recommendations for better bulbs. Before he left, I saw the kitchen light still flickering. He quickly got up into the attic to probe further. Then got on the phone with another technician about a weird heat sensor discovered in the ceiling. I really appreciated that he would ask peers for expert advice instead of pretending he had seen it before. So humble and helpful! He persisted through the issue and fixed it! He left his cell in case anything came up with his repairs. Very good experience and would hire again! read more

Scheduled a job with AJ Long knowing that they charge $99 to show up to be applied to the price of the job. The job was a 10 minute connection one cable to a subpanel literally 10 minutes. The Tech took a picture insisted he had to speak with his boss, Matt Long. He had to go outside hide behind his van and spoke for over for like 20 minutes. Finally came back in and said it would be $415 to connect this cable because oh they were also gonna do some cleanup in the panel which wasn't required wasn't needed and it was just nonsense to increase the price so of course I'm not gonna pay $415 for 10 minute job therefore I just lost a $99 and ended up just doing it myself - don't ever hire AJ Long - It's such a rip off. read more

I requested service and their AI bot scheduled an electrician for a period of 1 to 5 PM. I even got a confirming text message giving me the name of the electrician that would show up between 1 and 5 PM. But the electrician never showed up, no one ever called and you can't reach a person when you call their number. There is just a loop to another message that tells you to press "1" to reach the party you are calling and that feeds you back to the AI. What a waste of time off! read more

This company does not guaranty their work. Do not respond when you to fixing their previous screw ups. They are overpriced and over bill clients so if you do decide to use this company, be proactive in clocking the technician and Supervise the work closely. read more

I received prompt and professional service in my condo. Si, the technician, explained everything that he did. He repaired our circuit breaker. What should have been a simple job became complicated, and he explained why every step of the way. If you need electrical work in a condo, I recommend A. J. Long Electric again. read more

Jason was quick, efficient, and accurate installing our new ceiling fan and removing the old one. He is also nice and neat. Everything was perfect. Our second time using AJ Long and we will use again. Easy to book and appointment was scheduled quickly. read more

they claim they are good. Servicer came as part of our home warranty Super. Charged 99 for doing essentially nothing. Told the guy our ceiling fan was not working. I had the ceiling fan ready to install, but he was lazy and said call.someone local. Subsequently called the AJ Long phone and no one ever got back about my concern. I told at least 4 other families in the Olney and Rockville MD area to never go with this outfit. to add salt to the wound, the estimate was never even sent to our home warranty company. stay away! read more

I had great work done by A J Long's in 2019, was pleased to see they still had a very positive Washington Consumer Checkbook rating, so hired them to do more work: see if a slightly noisy bathroom exhaust fan could be made quieter and an outdoor coach lamp on the side of my historic 1937 brick house (that worked!) could be replace with a more securely attached coach light. My window was 8 - 11, the guy arrived at 12, tried to park in my clearly not used driveway, broke a branch of my fig tree, and was continuing until I yelled STOP! STOP! ... Part 1: he took the bath exhaust fan out, suggested I clean it, but when it was resinstalled it was MUCH worse, he said he'd get a replacement motor (and took mine with him). So I have no exhaust fan in my newly wallpapered master bath. Part 2: he took down the old coach light, and despite the old one working fine, just loose, he told me he had to run new wiring, cut a new hole in the brick outside, AND a NEW HOLE in my bedroom wall inside. A construction savvy friend said "that makes no sense, he can use the old wire to pull new wiring through the existing inside switch. I don't want to have to repaint that bedroom wall. My sense was the guy had never dealt with an old house (or to rack up $$$ for Long's), so just suggested replace everything. I finally got the part 2 estimate (~$700) 4 days after the first visit (~$400) before which everything worked. Now, neither does. NOT HAPPY read more

Gave this place a chance since they have a good review score and didn't charge for an estimate. However, the rest of my experience with this company wasn't great. When I called to set up the estimate they didn't answer the phone. (First Red Flag). But, they did call me back quickly and could send a technician in a fair amount of time, so I gave them a star for that. When the electrician arrived, he did not wear a mask or ask what my preference was. He then came into my house wearing clunky work boots without booties or asking if he should take his shoes off. (Second Red Flag). After explaining the job to the tech, he said he would provide an estimate after a week. (Third Red Flag). To date, I have not received an estimate from the tech. I emailed two email addresses listed on the website and called four times (each time it goes to voicemail). This company isn't legit. I guess you get what you pay for. Next time I'll just pay for an estimate from a bigger company. read more

I used this company twice within a 2 week period for different jobs. My calls were returned in a timely manner and the appointments were scheduled quickly. The first electrician was outstanding; the second not nearly as friendly or thorough. Both of the jobs were outside for lighting issues in my back yard which required walking through the house; neither put on shoe covers without being asked to. Overall I was satisfied with the service and price so I would use the company again and have referred a neighbor to them. read more

I'm very happy with the service I got from AJ Long Electric. My job could be classified as "No Job Too Small" - replacing a dual dimmer switch for a ceiling fan/light combo that was no longer working. I found the consultation process (handled via email) very easy, and the representative I worked with (Matt) was fantastic. Based on his responses, I was able to set up an appointment at a time that was convenient for me. The technician (John) showed up during the scheduled time frame, and was able to perform the repair/replacement in a very timely manner. I found their pricing to be very similar to many other electricians I spoke with ($99 for a service call and 1/2 hour). They were also willing to allow me to buy the actual switches from Lowes and install the switches (which saves me a bit of money compared to having the company supply the parts). I would highly recommend giving AJ Long a call for any electrical need. read more

Great work, friendly crew. Their techs were always punctual and were professional. Definitely recommend!!

Ted was a professional from the moment he showed up. Found the source of our power outage to be in a hidden outlet we didn't even know existed. Replaced it, restored power to our living room, and found time to troubleshoot separate issue with wiring on a lighting fixture: all within an hour. Pleasant, knowledgable, focused, neat, respectful, and all-around truly exceptional. As the owner of an older home, I am so glad to have found Ted at AJ Long. I will not hesitate to reach out to him again. read more

I selected Long Electric because of positive ratings here and many, many more on Angies List and Washington Consumer Checkbook. I spoke to John Long on the phone, and he was responsive and available and explained what seemed like a fair rate structure. Anybody who complains that an electrician charges for the initial visit is either not dealing with reality, or not dealing with professional electricians. The electrician that he sent, Bo, was on time, friendly, exceedingly professional, and worked very efficiently. I had a long list of projects that ranged from simple installation of a ceiling light to adding new boxes to troubleshooting of some non-functioning old wiring. Bo worked quickly and neatly, gave thoughtful advise, and was conscientious not only of my property but of my pocketbook. After a half-day at my house, I was impressed by all that got done, and the total charges were less than I expected. I am very pleased with Bo and with Long Electric, and will absolutely call on them again when needed. read more

AJ Long Electric sent Bo to help me with a bathroom fan-light installation that was beyond my abilities. Bo was prompt, friendly, competent, and mindful of COVID precautions. He did a great job protecting the area from dust & debris, fishing wires through a ceiling and wall with no attic access, and installing the fan/light with minimal mess. I'm entirely happy with AJ Long's work and would happily hire them again! read more

I don't know how this company got a five-star rating. They canceled me day of service THREE different times before I gave up on them. Impossible to get someone on the phone either. You leave a message and they call you back when it's convenient for them--usually when you are in the middle of something at work. I don't know if they can actually do any electrical work, because I wasted 3 days waiting for people that never showed up. In my book, that service sucks. read more

Sai is fantastic!! Based on my experience with him I would definitely use AJ Electric again, and request that they send Sai. Sai came on a home warranty call, showed up with a mask, and was incredibly respectful of the space in my home. He quickly and accurately assessed the electrical problem and explained it clearly and made sure I understood my options. Not only did he take care of the problem professionally, but he also made sure I tested everything to be sure it worked before he left. Thank you, Sai! read more

I left a message on Friday to a recording that says "we will return your call within 5-10 minutes." I called again on Monday and got the same recording. Nah. Will move on to the next vendor. Don't care to wait another "5-10 minutes" my time is valuable. read more

John Long corrected some electrical issues in our condo. He was professional, service oriented and easy to communicate with. We highly recommend him to anyone needing electrical support in the Northern Virginia area. read more

They did excellent work and offered the best price I could find. However, the one thing I didn't like is that they charge for the initial estimate. My gripe is not with the fact that they charge, per se, but rather that they didn't tell me there was a $75 charge until AFTER they had done the 15-minute assessment. It just seems to me that businesses should be up front about this as soon as possible. Someone should have told me there would be this fee when I made the appointment. At the very least, the electrician should let the customer know upon his arrival at the residence. Sadly, neither of these were done by A.J. Long Electric. However, as I mentioned before, even with the $75 estimate fee, they still had the best price out there, and I have no complaints about the work itself. read more

I called and got a phone quote. John the owner was efficient - changed out our two broken GFI outlets and hung up our new delicate chandelier in less than 1.5 hours. I have to echo another reviewer and say that he was honest and knowledgeable, neat and respectful to our space. I would refer him to anyone who has any electrical needs. read more

Excellent work, reasonable price, efficient and didn't try to up-sell us on services. Would recommend to anyone in VA DC area.

Bo had done work for us three years ago. He returned to install five lighting fixtures, one of which required cutting drywall, drilling through studs, and re-wiring. He worked quickly, efficiently, cleanly, and pleasantly, even managing to develop a nice relationship with my 3 year-old granddaughter along the way. We couldn't be more satisfied. He also appeared promptly, at the very start of a 10:00 am to 1:00 pm window (good thing, for he was here until 4:00 pm -- a long day.) read more

You can't go wrong with this company. When I call, John answers the phone and can actually decipher exactly what I need. He schedules us promptly and they show up when they say they will. I've been relying on Bo as my go-to electrician for the past 5+ years. He has taken care of all the electrical upgrades and remodeling needs in our home. He always does an excellent job for us and I like that he has the flexibility to add on small jobs to the work order that come up while I've got him here. He is reliable, efficient and his attention to detail sets him apart. I also like that Bo takes the time to educate us on the latest products to save us money in the long run and he is a very upbeat and personable. I originally found Long Electric though excellent reviews in my area (Springfield) on Angies's list and the pricing is on point. read more

AJ Long did an awesome job running wires to new sconces and installing several new fixtures in our house. Mr. Long came in and set up material to keep the work area clean and was extremely efficient. He introduced his co-worker, was done quickly, cleaned up so it looked like he was never here. and with left us with perfect results. And his price was about quite a bit less than another quality electrician had quoted us for this job. He'll be getting a call from us for any future work we need done. Highly recommended!! read more
