The Grilled Mozzarella is really good. The half order is good for 2 maybe 3 people, you do get 3 little finger sandwiches. The Filet Mignon as well as the NY Steak really needs seasoning. You MUST salt the steaks a bit before grilling. But it was cooked perfectly. Service at the bar was really good, with the bartender being prompt with taking our order, cleaning up dishes, and getting us our next course. Usually this is our "go to" restaurant in Helena. Our server, not sure if she was new or just had no common sense, was probably the worst we had in a long while. She not only did not smile at us, served appetizers separately, then asked me 3 times in 15 min if I was done with my steak. We also poured our own wine throughout the meal...not that that was the deal killer. We were having or trying to have a conversational evening. I quickly set aside the pre-made salad that tasted of mainly onion with 2 bites of it. I took my 2 sons and their wives to dinner on Friday, 2/23/2022. There was a total of 6 of us. Since they don't take reservations, we got there early at 4:30 pm and got our name on the list. We were told 1.5 hr wait. There were no seats in the waiting room bar so I found 1 seat for my wife at the dining room bar and I stood. It took us 15 minutes to get a drink because the bartender was busy chatting with the locals that were already sitting at the bar. After 5pm they started seating earlier people so we found a spot for 6 of us in the waiting bar. We had to flag down a server to get waited on. Then when we wanted another drink since we were still waiting we had a terrible time getting someone to stop and wait on us so my wife went to the bar to get the drinks. Finally at 6:30, 2 hours later we were seated for dinner. I ordered a medium rare fillet, so did both my boys. The ladies ordered different pasta dishes. My steak was horrible. It was cooked right, but it was so tough and chewy it was almost not edible. My garlic potatoes were hard, dry and barely warm. I had 1 son say his steak was OK. the other son had the same issues with his meal I had. The ladies said their pasta dishes were ok. Lacking in flavor, and not hot when served, barely warm. Service was not good. Once the food was delivered we saw the server once more before we got the check. Then we had to track her down to pay for it. No reason for me to return for that kind of meal and experience. read more

We went to a steakhouse outside of helena & waited 30 minutes with no drinks, menus or even a glance from a waitress. I suggested going to On Broadway for steaks so we left. At On broadway we were seated within 30 seconds. We had water & menus within 45 seconds. Our beers came maybe 4 minutes after ordering. The steaks were outstanding! The waiter was amazing! I did the vegetarian daily special and it was quite good. The service was the fastest I've seen in Helena. Food and drinks were reasonably price. Restuarant had an interesting set up sort like balcony seating. Enjoyed the salad as well. Only complaint i had, is i would have sworn i ordered a Manhattan and ended up with a old fashion. We have visited On Broadway every time we've stayed in Helena. Their food is great, but their recent expansion has obviously resulted in serious customer service issues and lack of adequate staffing. We had a wonderful time at On Broadway tonight. The food was great, and the service really added to our evening. My sister and I both agreed that our waitress was perhaps the best server we have EVER had. Literally out of the 1000's of times we have eaten out, she stands out. As far as the meals, we had the prawns and scallops with a change the kitchen was kind enough to accommodate, and the halibut, both which were excellent. We did save room for dessert and both the creme brûlée and carrot cake were also worthy of 5 stars. In summary, food was 5 stars, service was 6 stars and we will of course be back soon. read more

One of Helena's better restaurants, has a nice bar too. Most items on the menu are extremely rich. They have an interesting decor, and always have intriguing art hung on the walls. The beer selection is nice, but I've never had a beer at On Broadway that I didn't think was a LITTLE flat. read more

My wife even commented on how much she wishes this place were near us. I travel a lot for work, and end up in a lot of places. Clint does an amazing job with the menu. The ambiance is the best in town. Our waitress was very professional and gave great service. All four of us loved our dinners. Been eatin' there for 30 years. It's a Helena staple, relaxing atmosphere, consistently good servers, and predictably good food. Not inspired food, not elegant food. But good dependable well prepared food, starting with the unlimited basket of fresh cuban rolls from the Sweet Grass Bakery, the simple but flavorful dinner salads. On to an always-pleasing array of satisfying entrees, and finishing with enjoyable, sharable deserts. For a light fare, just do a chardonnay with salad and crab cakes. Absolutely unbelievable. It had been years (10+) since I had been here, not because of a bad experience just because I never think of it. Went here at 7:30ish on a Thursday and it was packed which is definitely a good sign. I'm a vegetarian, so eating out in Montana can be a challenge of you don't want to eat a side salad all of the time, so we just told the waiter that and he recommended some delicious dinners for us! They are charming and intimate. You can enjoy a drink and conversation. (There's a great selection of wine and microbrews.)The creamy parmesan dressing is to die for and so are the seafood dishes. The only downside is that they don't accept reservations. Busy nights can be a bit of a wait. My most recent experience here was MUCH better than the first time. I went with the Tombo fish special and it was amazing. They put a curry sauce on it and they dressed the plate with wasabi....they also put some grilled onions and peppers on the plate. I love spicy food (seriously, I do) but not so spicy that I cannot enjoy my meal. The kitchen overdid it with the red chilis on the vegetarian pasta entree I ordered last night. The red pepper sauce had too much garlic and heat on it, making it unpleasant to eat after the first few bites. The pasta itself was lovely, a perfect al dente. But the spicy heat was over the top.
