Love Shellie's, it's our go to for breakfast. My sister recently moved to Helena and her and I had a great meal and we were able to stay and visit and never felt rushed out. They even offered to top off my coffee after we had paid. Our family recently ate there also it's always a great meal and experience. There were 7 of us and we were seated with other customers at a joined area. (Two tables pushed next to each other). I was nervous that they may be annoyed having children next to them but everything went great and I was thankful our children behaved. I miss the fun signage from the old location and don't love the restrooms at the new location. But the food is still good, and we love the portions. read more

We were in Helena for the day and heard great things about this spot from a few friends so we decided to check it out. I wish I was more hungry when I walked in cause I really wanted to try their "Holy Cow" style meals but could only go with the standard serving size. I ended up going with the chicken sandwich. The chicken was fried perfectly on the outside and the inside was tender and had good flavor. The fries here were very good and I would've kept ordering more of those if I had any more room. The food here is really great. It feels like the best diner food imaginable in a setting that offers so much more. The restaurant reminded me of a bigger chain but with the hometown feel. Big but cozy and personable. Our server was great and always made sure our drinks were full the whole meal. I'll be sure to come back here the next time we visit Helena. read more

Shellie's Country Café has such a warm, cozy, down-home charm that makes you feel right at home the moment you walk in. My server, David, was absolutely wonderful! So attentive, genuine, and full of great energy. I asked loads of questions, and he didn't seem bothered one bit. You could tell he truly cared about making sure everyone had a great experience. I ordered the Indian Taco Salad, which was really good, but the true stars of the show are the homemade pies! The butterscotch cream pie was smooth and perfectly balanced, creamy and not too sweet. I couldn't resist taking a peanut butter chocolate cream pie to go, and I don't regret it one bit. I'm only in town for a day and leave very early tomorrow , but since they're open 24/7, I just may have to swing by for some chicken fried streak and a slice of coconut cream on my way out! Absolutely adorable! Shelly's is a whimsical cafe right off of I-15 in Helena with the "Holy Cow" option of making your meal a double - that's a 1LB burger for those carnivores. For the gluten free friends of mine they have great gluten free pancakes you can substitute for! The hash browns are made perfectly with a brown crunch on the outside and a soft potato center. I opted for the single visit to the salad bar and was told it's a small plate with one visit and was pleased to see that a small plate is PLENTY for the hungry but not starving appetite. We just had a fabulous dinner at Shellie's. We were meeting the great-grandkids for the first time. Everyone was so very accommodating and kind. The food was delicious and the two toddlers loved their little pizzas from the kids menu. My husband and I had the Indian tacos and our granddaughter had the pancakes, bacon and eggs. What can I say? This review is based on only one trip to Shellie's in the restaurant location that used to be Perkins. Haven't tried any of their dishes except the jalapeño poppers that I bought when I was there this last time. So take it with a grain of salt if you'd like, but this is what I observed. First of all, we liked Perkins. Not everything there was super, but some things were very good, and the prices were reasonable. I could take my family of 5 there and eat for around $42 or so, and that's with 3 kids meals and two adults meals. As this change to Shellie's approached we were worried that we would lose our favorite restaurant, but we were hopeful that Shellie's would be a change for the better. We were disappointed. 1st of all, the prices are WAY more, at least 30% higher or more on most things. When we went there, we had all eaten recently, so it was just for dessert. Let's see, I got jalapeño poppers, ($9.50)!!! And my wife got onion rings ($9.95)!!! And one chicken nuggets kids meal, one milkshake, and one slice of chocolate cream Oreo pie, and 2 coffees. NOT a large meal, simply dessert and a snack. $48! I can imagine what the cost would have been had we all had meals. So much for our nice affordable Perkins. I forget to mention that my jalapeño poppers had NO SPICE at all, and were barely edible, the SIX of them for $9.50. I do have to admit that the chocolate cream pie was far superior to Perkins chocolate cream, so that's good, but they will be seeing much less of us and our business than Perkins did. If you're looking for an old-school diner Shellies is the place to go. It's open 24/7 which is just lovely and makes things easy to remember. I came here at 8am on a Monday and it was not busy at first but then it filled up by 8:30am-9am. I ordered the breakfast burrito with sausage ($10.50) which was just okay. I was expecting more filling and you could tell the burrito was very loose from it being loosely packed with not much inside. Nothing is worse when you take a bite of a burrito and get mostly tortilla. The chipotle sauce was good though and added a little bit of spice to an otherwise lackluster dish, especially one I waited almost 30 minutes for. The hash browns were crispy and seasoned enough though compared to other hash browns I've had in diners. While waiting for my food I enjoyed reading the variety of signs on the walls that range from happy to funny that are entertaining. On their menu they can make certain dishes "holy cow" which is basically doubling the size of what you get. read more

I don't rate 5 stars often but Shellie's has a special place in my heart and stomach. They do a better job than most with training staff, I can't recall where I've ever had a bad interaction. It's large so can accommodate just about any size party. Hardly ever a wait no matter the size The food is always good and one of the very few places that can cook meats to order correctly. It's not a fancy pants place and they don't claim to be. But they serve good, homestyle foods that always hit the spot no matter what the craving is.
