Excellent fresh food. Every time I visit Helena for work this is a must stop for lunch. Great salads and fresh bread and comfy atmosphere.

I'm going to start this post by saying this...HUCKLEBERRY ROLLS. Nothing else matters. But seriously, these little rolls of goodness get 5 stars for themselves. While the roll itself is a tad bit dry, the frosting makes up for it 100 times over. I wish I bought a third because my husband didn't really want to share. One may ask, "so why 3 stars?" Well, everything I enjoyed stopped there unfortunately. I also ordered a fresh fruit smoothie. It was meh. There were a ton of seeds from the berries and I'm not a fan of getting those stuck in my teeth. Plus, the only available straws were tiny coffee stirrers. A classmate said we had to try the biscuits & gravy. But for my personal taste, not a fan. It had overwhelming amounts of rosemary and the biscuits were pretty dry. The gravy also had more of a soupy, runny texture - there are definitely better options in town. If we come back, we'll probably just stick to the baked goods. read more

Dead & Company... I know you're out there, and wherever you are -- make your way to the Grateful Bread here in Helena MT! Casey Jones would eat at the Grateful Bread... even if he doesn't have much of an appetite because... well, you know why. Me on the other hand, I do have an appetite, and I'm having GB for a second time since I moved here. I sat next to a boomer last time I was here, and he was having the French Dip -- I assured him I'd go for it the next time I came back and here we are. They bake some amazing pastries and desserts. Without the emoji of a cactus or cake popping up after trying to spell, "desserts", I can't remember which spelling is which. So, The first time I came here I was so excited to try out the place and the breakfast sandwich did not disappoint. I had the breakfast sandwich on their sourdough bread which was amazing! This time I had the same breakfast sandwich on two of their "biscuits" First of all the San Francisco sourdough bread, the egg, cheese, and sundried tomato worked beautifully together and the customer service was great as well. Now, let's talk about these so-called biscuits. Huge, dry, dense, has too much baking powder, and not fluffy, and lacks flavor. The place was very loud today as well which made working difficult, to say the least. I also substituted the sausage for chicken on one "biscuit" the sandwich was still too dry to eat! Ended up just eating the protein off the sandwich and throwing the "biscuits" in the trash. I will try this place again and have a plain biscuit the next time. We walked in, the front case looks very inviting, with scones, cookies, cinnamon rolls. Some were marked "Gluten Free". There are a few tables around, the expectation is that patrons order their food and sit down. Easy street parking and easy access for disabled people. There is a ramp leading up to the bakery. Extra point for easy access. However, inside the rock music is deafening, too loud. My husband ordered coffee and biscuits with gravy. No Splenda available for the coffee, it is a weak brew, barely acceptable. The biscuits were large, but a bit dry. Gravy with sausage was fine. I ordered a Breakfast sandwich, expecting something similar to a "Bodega Sandwich". It came in a huge biscuit, too large, and somewhat dry. I was not sure what sauce was on the biscuit, tomato jam? Berry? Gouchuchang? I don't know, it wasn't worth taking it back, just I hate surprises on my sandwich. Generous amount of bacon, which I gave to my husband. The egg was surpringly delicious, in a square shape, light, fluffy, perfect. Nice amount of cheddar cheese. Would I go back? The food was okay. Went on a slow afternoon and got the Chicken Caesar Salad wrap, and unfortunately was let down. The wrap didn't have any chicken in it :( So I paid $16 for lettuce, some bacon and tomatoes in a tortilla. I do like the creativity that comes with this place but unfortunately it didn't hit without the chicken. One of the BEST breakfast sandwiches I have had in a long time! Everything is homemade and you can tell it's made with love. This quaint little bakery provides a comfortable atmosphere that could be used for studying, solo eating, or enjoying food with friends. Excellent friendly customer service as well! Drove by quite a few times and always chuckled at the name but never stopped in because it just looked so unassuming. We saw they were advertised as participating in the Downtown Helena Association Winter Festival and finally stopped in! A GREAT little place hidden in such an unassuming little corner building! Fresh baked items were amazing. We had a couple apple hand pies, a London Fog and a Spiced Chai. Great customer service even as they were training a new employee. Great atmosphere! Super cute and love how they support the local community with posting some flyers/posters and even had a table for the local flower shop selling Valentine's Day bouquets! Grate, er, GREAT local business. Nice place to sit or take out. Recently got 3 sandwiches for me and friends on a fishing float down the Missouri. The Cubano was the best I've ever had. With barbecued pork tasting beautifully of the fire, high quality ham and great bread. The roast beef special and turkey were also first-rate.
