The grateful bread was a cute spot, very small inside but they had good service & good food. Not pictured is the kombucha that was AMAZING!Our food was good too, the sandwiches were packed full!Next time we're in town we will visit again!

Dead & Company... I know you're out there, and wherever you are -- make your way to the Grateful Bread here in Helena MT! Casey Jones would eat at the Grateful Bread... even if he doesn't have much of an appetite because... well, you know why. Me on the other hand, I do have an appetite, and I'm having GB for a second time since I moved here. I sat next to a boomer last time I was here, and he was having the French Dip -- I assured him I'd go for it the next time I came back and here we are. They bake some amazing pastries and desserts. Without the emoji of a cactus or cake popping up after trying to spell, "desserts", I can't remember which spelling is which. We'll see what dessert I decide to leave with today, in the meantime come check this place out if you haven't. It's poppin'

So, The first time I came here I was so excited to try out the place and the breakfast sandwich did not disappoint. I had the breakfast sandwich on their sourdough bread which was amazing! This time I had the same breakfast sandwich on two of their "biscuits" First of all the San Francisco sourdough bread, the egg, cheese, and sundried tomato worked beautifully together and the customer service was great as well. Now, let's talk about these so-called biscuits. Huge, dry, dense, has too much baking powder, and not fluffy, and lacks flavor. The place was very loud today as well which made working difficult, to say the least. I also substituted the sausage for chicken on one "biscuit" the sandwich was still too dry to eat! Ended up just eating the protein off the sandwich and throwing the "biscuits" in the trash. I will try this place again and have a plain biscuit the next time. The ones I had were like an onion and chive or a spinach biscuit. Either way, they were Gross!

Slowly Helena is adding top shelf neighborhood eateries to its ancient tradition of good neighborhood bars. Across from the iconic Jester's bar on Rodney Street is this superb breakfast/brunch/lunch place. It is a bakery with all sorts of tasty pastries and coffees to go. But order at the counter and go take a seat. Slow down a bit and enjoy this casual, friendly cafe. Recommend the breakfast bacon burrito--pressed to give it crunch--and a latte. Friends love the chicken sandwich. Salads are available too. Such a enjoyable vibe, excellent food, even better caoffees. And it's on Rodney Street, away from the suits and tourists.

Consistently amazing food and great service. I am so glad they are in our Hood. Try the ham and cheese croissant, if you are lucky enough to get one.

Amazing and delicious pastries! Very friendly service ! Got five different things from the pastry case, all were fresh and delicious! Han and cheese croissant was so tasty and still warm when I got it! Raspberry cream cinnamon roll was fantastic too! Fun theme and branding, highly recommend overall!

One of the BEST breakfast sandwiches I have had in a long time! Everything is homemade and you can tell it's made with love. This quaint little bakery provides a comfortable atmosphere that could be used for studying, solo eating, or enjoying food with friends. Excellent friendly customer service as well! If you want bakery goodies I'd recommend getting their early. Would definitely recommend and definitely be back!

I was in town for a wedding and stopped by the bakery cafe for some lunch. The service was prompt and courteous, and food was delicious! I had a vegetarian sandwich, which was crisp and tasty. My partner got the candied garlic (yum!!) wedge salad. Both were terrific, and very affordable for the quality. Stop by this spot for a casual, lovely lunch in Helena.

This was the biggest breakfast sandwich ever haha so darn good. I've never had a bad meal here.

Local art on the walls. This was created by a person name Metta. Which in Pali means loving kindness

I had the breakfast burrito and it was delish! Also a good portion with plenty of sour cream and salsa. I also had a simple little mocha which was really great. The vibe here is pretty chill. Music is a little loud for this with sensitive ears, but what do you expect at a place called Grateful Dead. I mean bread. I would come here again

She felt that was self-explanatory, so I took a chance & ordered it anyway. The second item I asked about was the Cafe Mocha, which is described as half coffee & half hot chocolate. Dawn repeated that to me; I went ahead & ordered it, because it's a nippy day outside, it sounded good, & Steve's prides itself on "whole bean Italian coffee". Dawn asked if I wanted whipped cream, & yes--that was the best part of this hot drink. It tasted like hot water with a bland chocolate flavor with no coffee flavor to be savored. Disappointment in a mug for $3.75. The Cafe Monte Cristo Sandwich looked promising when it arrived...but when I tasted it, the only thing which was flavorful was the bacon. The ham & turkey sliced deli meat was absolutely indistinguishable for any flavors of ham or turkey! ($14.95; scarcely any powdered sugar on the French Toast, either, which is a hallmark of a Monte Cristo...& no, it isn't deep-fried in any batter, but the French Toast is a clever substitution & departure from the original.) I ate half of it & boxed the other half...the French Toast was bland, too--very little flavor. My side item was something I always look forward to here, because so few restaurants serve onion rings anymore! These are a $2.00 up charge, & I told Dawn I like them on the light side, not too dark--& these came out close to being dark, & they must have sat in the grease, because they were tough on the outside...not the best onion rings by far. Disappointment again! I came here anticipating another great experience at Steve's Cafe, & it was completely disappointing until Alivia appeared: Alivia noticed I appeared to be waiting, & I was--because I saw on my check that the Cafe Mocha comes with ONE REFILL! Dawn never mentioned nor offered me a refill, but Alivia did--& yes, that's exactly how to spell her name, which is pronounced as "Olivia". Alivia gave me a to-go cup with a lid, & whipping cream & all, that excellent but of genuine "Customer Service" kept this review from being one star! Purely because of Alivia, I will return to Steve's Cafe the next time I'm in Helena, a 100+ miles from home! Thank you, Alivia, for saving the day for me: The next time, I'm asking for you as my server!

I ended up getting the three egg breakfast, with linked sausage, hash browns and a couple lemon ricotta pancakes. My friend got two eggs, the huckleberry French toast and pork linked sausage. First, let's start with the positive notes. The place was clean, there dining room was big with plenty of open tables, our server was super nice and we were seated right away, the food was good for the most part. My over medium eggs were perfectly done, my lemon ricotta pancakes were delicious but the entire experience was ruined when the server brought out the bottle of TABLE SYRUP instead of maple syrup! I realize this is a small business but I haven't eaten Mrs Butterworth syrup since I was like a child. Anyway, the pancakes were fluffy, delicious and perfectly done, the sausage however had a soft mildly off-putting texture and the hash browns seemed old and had no flavor. Pretty darn good…read more I'll caveat this with my coworker had some issues with his order, but they corrected it promptly so great service! The food comes out super fast, and it's as I mentioned pretty darn good I cannot complain! The po boy I got was tasty, and just enough food to keep me happy for the afternoon. This spot definitely rocks for lunch with it's speedy service and laid back atmosphere. The food itself, as I said it comes out fast! Like, questionably so but it wasn't bad so I can't complain haha. The one thing I didn't love is the cheese in my Po Boy got stuck to the wrapper it came out in so I lost a lot of cheese to the paper. Let's chat about ambiance fast, it's an interesting atmosphere very american but also very New Orleans at the same time. I like it but the walls are a smattering of different themes and ideas which makes for a somewhat incoherent atmosphere. Still, the music was at a good volume for conversation and for work. So yeah I'm happy!

Haven't been here for some time and decided to try them a second time. Had a cup of gumbo with a…read moresmall jambalaya. Generally most places will serve gumbo with a scoop of rice in the bowl but Zydeco just mixes it all in. The jambalaya was "just okay" and needed a boost of flavor and heat with some Crystal Louisiana hot sauce. Overall, not bad but I have had better. Oh , and about the beignets - come on folks! These are just deep fried squares or lumps of flour drizzled or dusted (or, here, drowned) with powder sugar. (Warning: Don't wear dark clothing, don't breathe or blow air on your beignet if they are still hot because, if you do, everyone will know know what you had for dessert!). The "service" was "just okay". Now you go up to the counter and order first. Get your own table and cleanup by taking dishes over to a tub when you're done eating. That's fine, not hard. But why pay a big tip for little to no customer "service?" As noted in other reviews I have asked: How does one gauge a tip when you order first at a counter, pay, find your own seating, get the food, and then expected to bus your own table? Under these circumstances, I'll tip 15% up front If I'm expected to pay first. I can always provide an extra tip for "extra" ordinary service and/or food before I leave. While I like the patriotic theme - and as observed the last time I was here - the place is a little outdated and could use a facelift.
