Seven of us came here on a Friday late afternoon after walking around downtown Helena for a bit. We had a late lunch, so were not hungry, just stopped for something warm. There were very few people there in the late afternoon, so service was fast. None of us got anything to eat, but they did have quite a few interesting options. I got a hot chocolate and it was ok....I have had better. Several got coffee and most were happy with what they had. They have tables and some couches and chairs to sit in which are comfortable. They do have outdoor seating,, but it was too cold for us to enjoy it. The place was clean and the service was friendly. Serving sizes are the typical ones for a coffee shop. read more

My husband and I came back in a second time because our first experience was so good. We ordered a latte and cup of tea. Although we were the only ones it took over ten minutes for our order to be completed. We didn't complain as I work in the service industry myself and I know near closing time there can be quite a bit to get prepared for the following day. The young man who made our drinks apologized on delivering our drinks and explained the latte is a complicated drink and takes some time to prepare. With such a remark I thought he was probably just new so we thanked him and went on our way. When we got in our car our lids popped off both of our drinks spilling a significant of liquid in our car. The lid on mine could not be secured again. This was annoying however the worst thing was my husband's latte. It was terrible. I'm thinking maybe it wasn't mixed properly. It was all milky on top and the bottom was all orange flavoring. There was no cayenne flavor. Please Hub coffee. You have good drink specials. My husband loved this Dark Orange Mocha last time he had it. But you really need to train your staff better. And maybe take a look at your lids as well please. read more

The food is good, I love that they have Missoula tea company options. They are CLOSED on SUNDAYS. They offer mimosas some days but on the weekend we were there no one over 21 was working so they said no alcoholic drinks available. I totally understand this. No one needs a mimosa :) read more

Stopped off at a different coffee shop down the street that was surprisingly closed, yelped this place and saw the pic of the la marzocco. Most places with this equipment generally tend to pull better shots and produce quality lattes. Once dialed in its hard to mess it up. Whenever I see one of those machines in the pics I don't think twice about checking out the establishment. This place was open on time and the folks working there were hitting the ground running. Got a Luke warm greeting and a fresh Cinnamon roll. Really happy to see them using monin syrups but idk if it was the organic variety. Dropped off the coffee to me and was friendlier so that's a plus. Disappointed my Latte was a little watery and bitter, very little crema I'm guessing or stale beans - or pulled too hot - or channeling maybe. Could also be the grind is too high... Not a lot of complexity in the espresso and no texture in the milk. Tasted like something at the office pot of coffee. Still light years better than your average Bucky's. I think maybe some better quality beans and barista training and this place could be 5 stars no problems. I will repeat to see if today was an anomaly. Hard to believe with that la marzocco... definitely have to give them another try. Yelp warned me to give everyone a break due to covid so I added an extra star lol Left this review in draft to try the shop a second time. Great friendly service the second day but the latte was still good but not great. I would recommend they try a different fresher roast and double check their grinds to make sure those 17-21 gram baskets are putting out about 30 grams or 1.5 ounce of liquid in 25-30 seconds. There is no reason this place cant be exceptional with that beautiful machine they have there. With beans from Bozeman and loose leaves from Beverly Hills, and odd bits and pieces of bikes hanging around, you just know that this place is hip. "Hip" is hard to define, and while it's usually thought of as a positive thing, sometimes it serves as a stand-in for snobbish or elite. While the beans and tea are from places a tad full of themselves, Helena - where Hub is - definitely is not. It's cool but in an unpretentious way. And it's living in the twenty-first century, not stuck in nineteenth-century Western nostalgia. OK: parts of Helena are very into the Lewis and Clark/Great Northern/mining and logging town past. That's true. But just not at Hub. It's a new operation - in its second year - and definitely deserves to be called hip: stone floors, big windows, minimalist decor with art, posters, and wifi password information on the walls, a cherry-red La Marzocco machine showing itself off on the counter across from an attractive display of Theo chocolate bars. Ghost Town Roasting beans in bags share space with Hub gear and Art of Tea tins, while good music you've probably never heard before floats through the wide open spaces between mounted speakers and your waiting ears. A few black leather chairs and couch offer some softness from all the metal, stone, and glass, but they too are lean and clean: a Bauhaus meets Montana sort of thing. And the coffee and tea are fine - good raw materials, good preparation, sturdy black mugs to consume them in while the musics plays and the sun shines and it's 28 degree outside and you're reading the New Yorker in your new best friend, the black leather armchair next to the storefront window. Empty coffee bags hang from the exposed ceiling, adding a touch of tropical warmth into the sleek Rocky Mountain surroundings. A place is hip if it looks as cool as you feel, if the beans and leaves are fresh and fair, if the atmosphere doesn't overwhelm the customer, and if you feel like you belong there even if you are just a casual stranger. A place like that is not snobbish or elite. You don't feel like you're superior or inferior to anyone else. You're all there for the same thing: something good to drink, someplace fun to be, a little elbow room to be yourself, and lots of unscheduled time to unwind: like a bunch of electrons hanging around at a lower energy state but getting ready to leap, jump, and play at some point not too distant in the future. I'll bet you could use a hub like that, now and again, at home or on the road. I certainly do. It's why I came here. read more

Overall this place was great. I ordered a lavender mocha (which the sweet, young barista said they had), but I think I got just a plain mocha. I am totally fine with this because the mocha itself was outstanding! I was happy to see that they can lettuce wrap any of their sandwiches so I ordered an egg salad sandwich. It was perfect. This was my first time here and I will be back! Second visit she nailed the lavender mocha. I just asked for extra lavender! read more

I was in to pick up 2 coffees and was quite disappointed. First they don't have much of a sugar free selection. Second I ordered my 2 coffees one was hot while the other was a frappe. The gentleman making my coffees noticed what I would say was a regular customer and worked on her order before mine. The hot coffee was flavorless and only luke warm while the frappe looked more like dirty water and didn't taste much better. I will never go again. read more

I hadn't been back to Helena for a little over a year. Last time I was here, I could see they had started working on getting the space ready, but hadn't opened. First thing I noticed upon walking in is the space is big - like most places these days, high ceilings, exposed ducting, etc, making the space feel even bigger. There's a large patio out front, with more than a half-dozen tables, and still plenty of space. It's got large sliding glass doors in the front, that can open up to the patio nicely (if this were bigger/trendier I'd expect an old school glass garage door). Inside there's a dozen tables or so, and there are three chaise lounges up front, and a couch and some comfier seating in the back. Tables are a brushed aluminum, while look like dark bamboo. Simple, modern feel, though slightly disjointed. Think cool and chic, rather than warm and cozy. The name/logo has the word Hub, superimposed over a bicycle sprocket - reminds me a bit of the Hub in Reno, which is a much smaller coffee shop, but also is named after a bicycle Hub. Coffee option seemed good, including drip, pour over, Clever drip, Americano, etc. Surprisingly, I didn't see a French press option. Also a large La Marzocco espresso machine sitting at one end of the counter. In any case, I got the pour over. Impressed to see that the were weighing out the beans on a gram scale and grinding fresh. Standard Hario swan neck, and while I was half expecting to see a ceramic Hario or Blue Bottle, instead a plastic pour over with a metal (non-gold?) filter. Pour over didn't include waiting for the bloom to settle, but did appear like he wetted out the beans first - couldn't tell if he avoid pouring on the filter or not, but in any case, the coffee seemed good to me inexperienced coffee palette. Hours are rather limited, much like everything else in Helena - 7 to 6 Monday through Friday, and 8-2 on weekends, so not a great venue for someone like me who likes to get some work done in the evening, late at night. I'm still surprised Helena doesn't seem to have a good option like that for students, but maybe Carroll isn't big enough to provide that kind of consumer base. read more

We stopped for lunch at the hub. The coffee mocha drink was delicious and we each had pastrami sandwiches. Sandwiches tasted wonderful but were very skimpy. There were only two layers of meat. New Yorkers would laugh and send it back to the kitchen. A real pastrami sandwich should be more than your mouth can open wide enough to take a bite. For seven dollars I would expect better. If it weren't for the skimpy sandwich I would give this place five stars. Has great Wi-Fi and very nice ambience. You can choose to sit out on the patio or inside. The nice thing is if you have a dog, which we do, the dogs are welcome on the patio and they even have little rugs for the dogs to lay on. read more

Very light sandwich. Just ordered a chicken Sonoma sandwich for pickup and was pretty disappointed. It was HEAVY on lettuce and very deficient in chicken. After taking a bite, i had to open up what they call a cibatta (more like a square dinner roll) to see if there was chicken in there. There was some. Some. It will take two of these 9-dollar sandwiches to satisfy even a normal appetite. After finishing, I need to got out and get lunch again. Doubt I'll be getting any more sandwiches there... read more

Hub is an excellent coffee shop in downtown Helena. Visited with a friend recently while in Helena for work. The roasted coffee and other coffee drinks are excellent, milk options are vast and cover all health preferences, the staff is nice and efficient, and the food and sweets look solid! (We didn't eat during our visit.) The atmosphere is perfect for me - not too anything, but casual and flexible. The outdoor seating in nice weather is great. Highly recommend trying Hub! This spot is a five star in any city or town. read more

I ordered a skinny sugar-free caramel latte to go. I can tell there is no sugar-free caramel whatsoever in my coffee. It's so bad that this is the first time I paid for something and didn't actually drink any of. I don't like to leave bad reviews but this was the worst drink I've ever had and the lady at the end who handed me my drink was not the nicest person. Hub Coffee has a great location on Last Chance Gulch, surrounded by lots of shops and restaurants. There's room for outdoor seating when it's warm out, and there's a little park just across the road. They have a good selection of drinks, with a decent variety of hot tea (something I always look for). If their coconut brownie is representative of their other baked goods, they're delicious! read more

The hub has great cinnamon rolls- caramel with pecans littering the tops. We stopped here late in the afternoon and got some to go for the following morning and I was impressed with how fresh they were the next day.
