The restaurant is cash only, not a big deal. We came in with friends, had a couple beers and each couple split a burger. The burger was big and quite good but very messy. The fries and chips needed to be cooked longer, mostly soggy. Overall, it's fine. It took us a while to get our food (an hour) and it didn't seem that busy. Who knows. I can't imagine we'll be back we we aren't from the area and the friends suggested it. Ambiance is very casual and the other thing that got me is that it was the last World Cup game and we asked the non-friendly gal if she could turn it on and she acted like we asked her for a massive favor when they were only showing a random softball game on tv. The waitress ended up doing it but also seemed annoyed. Sorry but I would rather spend my money where people don't seem ticked off constantly.

My over medium eggs were perfectly done, my lemon ricotta pancakes were delicious but the entire experience was ruined when the server brought out the bottle of TABLE SYRUP instead of maple syrup! I realize this is a small business but I haven't eaten Mrs Butterworth syrup since I was like a child. Each one was nearly an inch thick so it was nearly impossible to put my mouth around both those patties and the bun and the lettuce. That's OK though, I made due. Against our better judgment, these may be the best burgers we've had in Helena. The fries and onion rings arrived as they so rarely do elsewhere: hot, crisp, and audibly crunchy. No soggy apologies. No half-hearted effort. Just competence, executed with precision. And then, the huckleberry milkshake. A problem, frankly. Smooth, flavorful, perfectly balanced--it undermines any attempt at restraint and lingers in one's memory longer than is strictly reasonable. We are not in the habit of offering praise so freely. It sets a dangerous precedent. And yet, here we are. We will return. Not because we are easily impressed--but because, on occasion, it is worth revisiting something that insists on being this good.
