Great ambiance, but mid food. This was my second time coming here, this time for lunch. Decently crowded but seated immediately. Place is pretty cool, since it keeps so much of its history, and the service is solid, but the food isn't great. I got a half sandwich and soup of the day, which was a chicken chile verde enchilada soup. The French dip was looking like it was sitting for a while under a heat lamp and semi dried out. Soup wasn't looking much better, and the chicken almost looked like a frozen package. Service deserves a negative tip if that was possibly a thing. We showed up at six on a Tuesday. Got seated way in the back, which must be the we-forget-about-you section. We got waters by 6:15. We put in our food order when we got the waters. Couple of mocktail refresher drinks that never got finished because they tasted like they were half tabasco, but given we didn't see the server for the next 45m there wasn't much to be done about those. We got food at 7:05 - more than an hour after we were seated. No "sorry for the wait," no nothing. Mercifully, they only got three out of our five orders wrong. Grandma got fries instead of the side salad she ordered. Her sandwich didn't come on the pretzel bun like the menu said. Wife didn't get the guacamole ordered with her fish tacos. My Montana Dip sandwich looks like it had been thrown at the plate, angrily. I finally found the bacon that was supposed to be on it underneath the sandwich and fries. I literally had to reassemble it myself since nobody was coming back to the table. It took another 10 minutes to get the server to come back to our table. By then, of course, our food was all cold. I tried their Reuben! While the meat was delicious, I like a little more sauerkraut in my Reuben... Their Reuben did not have enough for my liking. Service was a little slow, our server was no where to be found and took awhile to get us the bill. They weren't particularly busy either. Great time with friends and family all visiting Helena for a wedding. The service is 10 stars and I'm bummed I did not get our sever's name. She was awesome and so much fun. Once I saw it on the menu I had to get the GIGANTIC PRETZEL (GP). It was gigantic and it was a pretzel. Great crispy outside and soft warm perfectly cooked inside. Get it, you won't regret it. We all loved it and the queso and hot mustard were a great match. I had the wings, buffalo sauce, and it came with fries. Both were really good. So much food I only ate 4 wings and 1/2 the fries. GP still weighing heavy in my gullet! The Wife had the Classic Mac and Cheese - nice taste but Luke warm instead of hot. Should have sent back to warm up. Her choice. The Kid had the brisket sandwich and garlic parm fries. The sandwich was so big., she ate 1/2 and hardly touched her fries. The fries were delish, as I had to sample a couple for review purposes. The Friend had a Buffalo chicken salad and The Other Friend had enchiladas. Both enjoyed their meals and had leftovers as the servings are generous. Great Time. Great Food. Great Service. Go! This place has a very interesting history, apparently it use to be a brothel whose owner made sure to donate money to churches and schools, but she was shut down a couple of decades later and died a month after, it's a little more detailed in the menu but apparently it's on the wiki so long as you look up Big Dorothy. Anyway, let's take that out of the way! This is about food! What can I say? It's amazing! Place has great energy and the food is such amazing quality! I ordered a gyro and me and the guys shared a pretzel. Pretzel was big and perfectly salted! Meanwhile the Gyro I ordered was something else! It was fresh, the tzatziki sauce was flavorful, and the meat was so well seasoned! I asked for a soup with it and it was just as amazing! A brisket and barley soup that had such tender meat! I was in cloud nine! And they also had Mac and cheese which my friends ordered, they were also amazing! They used rotini which stands out a little to me because that's not a normal pasta to use for Mac, but it's so much better because of that! I seriously cannot recommend this place enough! The relic of a brothel from days gone by, tastefully transformed into a lively pub in old town Helena. Biggest challenge is finding a parking space! But once you get there it is pure joy and the best food!! (And although it's gotten a bad rap for slow service, I beg your pardon! This is Montana, a long drive between places is part of the experience, so we should all slow down and enjoy it! I got my craft beer in record time, and order shortly after, the waitresses were very friendly and helpful but let you take your time and enjoy the experience! My wings were Excellent, great homemade sauce with wings on a bed of fries, which caught up the dripping sauce and made a wonderful meal, paired with a salad, this was a memorable and delicious little place to relax and enjoy historic Helena and Last Chance Gulch! Three of us were here the first week of March....behind in my posting. There were two sides to this large restaurant. We sat in the restaurant section but the other side is a bar. Two of us got a Mac n cheese dish and one got wings. I was really surprised at the size of the bowl of Mac and cheese. It came hot and was very rich, so no way I could finish it. I had a bowl of soup but it was just ok, nothing I would get again. The wings were reported as good too. We got a side of fries and I was expecting something special but I have had much better fries elsewhere. Only ate two. The server was good and supplied all we needed with a smile. The tables were clean and the decor was good. Has some historical items and pictures that was interesting. I would give it a 3.5....more than zero three but not a four. The Windbag use to be a place to relax, get a drink and some decent food. This is not the case anymore. My huckleberry martini tasted like grape mad dog 20-20. When I asked it to be replaced the waiter said yes and understood because she doesn't like it either. but later I found out I was charged anyway. I asked why and she said that is what we do when this happens. I asked does this happen often and she said yes. The boneless chicken wings and fries were lukewarm and okay with not a lot of flavor. Ordered the gulch burger and substituted pepper Jack for the blue... great smoky sweet burger. Slightly overdone but was not dry. The sweet potato fries were lukewarm and mushy, but by the time we could flag down the bartender it was too late to get fresh ones. The is the second time we've been here this week!! We are camping in the area and come downtown for shopping and lunch. The wait staff is funny and personable and very attentive. Every time I visit Helena I try to hit Windbag Saloon. The food is great and service is second to none.

I've been to the windbag a few times, but the other day when I walked in there, I was highly disappointed with how some of the employees were treated during my time eating there. Overall, the food is pretty good, I really enjoy the burgers, despite it all coming off of a sysco truck and the prices being a little high. The giant pretzel is a must-have when you come here, and when they say giant, they mean giant. The service staff are super friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is very open and therefore gets extremely loud, do not come here expecting to have a nice conversation. Overall I was very satisfied with my food.
