Lewis & Clark Brewery was long on my list for Montana breweries to try. I finally got to try their beer and my first impression was a good one! The beer that Steve and I had was the Prickly Pear which is a fruited Pale Ale. In the flavor you will certainly pick up lots of hoppiness but there is a hint of pear with some sweetness. This Pale Ale is nice and smooth and is also light bodied which makes it great in the hotter temperatures of summer. read more

Very strange. We stopped in for lunch & walked into a big empty room. We approached the bar & the lady asked if we wanted a drink. We told her we were looking for lunch so she directed us to go down the hall. Down the hall there was a walk up stall for pizza. It just was not what we were looking for so we left. read more

Tap house with Style! In a building with some colorful history, over 125 years old, there is a Great Local Brewery! The walls are like solid concrete because this was a jailhouse back in the day! Then the owners that have it now put like a bunch of money into making it their brewery! They took a building that had " great bones" and added some " Flair" all there own! From the super huge brew cats on display and the stage for live entertainment to the addition of some real good craft pizza! Stop in, look around ,grab a brew! I recommend the Scottish Ale. This place is a national treasure that I wish I could plop down in whatever city I'm living in. Seriously...beer + live music + pizza?! Yes please. BEER: They brew all kinds of styles, so there's something for everyone. And even though they brew across the spectrum, they do it well across that spectrum. Especially enjoyed their hazy IPA, which can hang with the best of them out there, while my wife really enjoyed the hef. MUSIC: We came during winter, but it was clear they do large scale outdoor shows, which would be great. But the inside venue, complete with stage and lights with the brewery bar right in the back, was awesome. Great vibe and acoustics. Having lived in Austin, this reminded me of the many famous intimate venues there...but with better beer. PIZZA: A counter operation that's independent from the brewery, but still part of the experience since it's in the same building. Great classic pizza that paired perfectly with the beer, and as convenient as it gets without being part of the brewery itself. Helena, you've got a gem in Lewis & Clark Brewery! Good beer in a great setting. More and more microbrews are opening bars in their breweries and the world is better for it. Louis and Clark has combined the log cabin/industrial look with great success. 2 levels, outdoor patio, stage, pool tables, table shuffleboard are just a few of the things I spotted. The beers were cold, cheap and served by friendly staff very eager to guide you through the flavor profiles of each beer. Great brewery in Helena located in a kind of business park area. The place is big and spacious. They have a live music space from the before time when live music was but will be again. The staff were absolutely wonderful and attentive. I picked up a flight and I must honestly proclaim every beer was great! The place is nicely decorated and there are 2 floors of seating. Large local brewery. Even though the sign says Taproom, that's the correct location. Parking sucks. There's one tiny parking lot so you'll most likely have to park on the street in an industrial area. There seems to be multiple entrances. Inside is kind of dark, like a cave. If you go in the one entrance, you can see where the"action happens". Everyone who worked here seemed nice and pleasant. You seat yourself and have to go to different counters to order drinks/food. The food seems like an after thought since you order from a door that's open halfway up. It's a very small menu. Prices were ok. I tried the nachos, pizza and pretzel. Nothing to write home about. The pizza also took about 20 minutes. There is a lot of room and a large central area. I can see how this location would be good for a small concert or performance of some sort. read more

I booked a private room at L&C 8 months ago for our wedding reception. I payed in full when I initially booked the room in January 2024. Fast forward to 6 weeks before our wedding, we are notified that there is a ticketed event on the night of my reception and if any of our guests wanted to leave the room, they would have to pay for tickets for the concert. We found out they posted the event a month earlier from when they notified me of the double booking --waiting a whole month before messaging us about the concert. On top of that, tickets are going for $35 per person. They also told us that we couldn't go order drinks at the bar and would be limited to a singular bathroom for more than 65 people at the reception. This is extremely frustrating and stressful to have a venue booked 8 months ahead and have them change our plans 6 weeks out from our event. We printed the venue on the invites and now have to contact each person to notify them of the venue change. We instead booked with Missouri River Brewing Co. out in East Helena with significantly more ease, for far cheaper, and ended up with WAY more space. After talking with friends and family, turns out this is not an uncommon experience. They often double book and try and cancel the other event that won't make as much money for them. In just three days, I found a family members coworker that's had this same experience however, they couldn't change their plans and are going through with their reservation. This is not how a business should be managed and it will eventually run a lot of customers away. To say we are disappointed is an understatement. read more

I was aghast to find that the only mention of this great MT brewery was coupled along with the Brewhouse restaurant. So, here is an official yelp page dedicated to great beer. I haven't been in MT for 5 years now, but I haven't found a beers like the Smoke Jumper stout or the Big Belt Weizenbock. Took my nephew for a couple of cold ones while our wives were out supporting the local economy. This is a great brewery with goooood beer. The Tumbleweed IPA, Miner's Gold, and Back Country Scottish Ale have all received national recognition, and are three of my favorites. As a proud member of the Occupy Bar Stool movement, this place is a go to "thirst quencher". The free bottomless peanuts and popcorn keep your thirst active. An outdoor patio, numerous cubby holes, a game room with a beautiful shuffle board, an art room, and two stages for live music make this one of my all-time favorite breweries. This is a great place to grab a beer after work or on a Saturday afternoon. There is plenty of space and you can always find a table or at least a stool. They have live music every Thursday and Saturday as well as open mics, comedy and holiday parties. There are usually about 10 beers on tap so it's easy to find something you like. The only downside is that there is very little off street parking, although they are planning on putting in a big parking lot down the street. Edited to add: They now have a full beer and wine license instead of just being a tasting room. Gone is the four beer limit; you can now get wine, beats and pizzas as well.
