Heard bird. $4.50 is the number here. If you find yourself paying more than $4.50, then probably you need to clear your cache & cookies. I had a slice from the Brooklyn style spot a couple shops down, and now I'm having the brew they're famous for. Ask'em. They'll shoot you straight and put you on a good one. As for the vibes.... Helena is still a small town -- for now. So, it's got small town vibes. You're going to be an outsider that gets eyeballs from the locals. They're not ready for the invasion they're about to receive. However, they're hospitable, kind, and basically pre-corona-odd. Remember how coronavirus made everyone weird because they didn't have any human interaction? As a tourist visiting from another state who finds out Helena has good microbreweries, I was super excited to go to a brewery! Most of them had early closing hours but we found this one that was open till 8! So happy we went!! Not only did we get to drive through a quaint Downtown to get there, the worker were friendly (wish I got his name) and talked to us about Montana and we got to meet some super awesome locals who were giving us tips on food and places to see and do in Helena and Montana. For our first day here, I'm already in love with Helena! We did a beer flight of 6 beers for only $10! We got the cream ale which is what I was super excited for, Scottish Ale, their popular Single Malt IPA, a blonde / hef type one, and a berry gose. All so good! No complaints. Loved it all! And we are frequent brewery people so we were impressed! Like that they have a nice outdoor seating also. Glad we stopped off here! I would recommend to anyone in the Helena or Montana area!! This place is one of the go to spots in town for some beer on tap. The place is pretty spacious with two floors and also outside area to envoy your beverage. This is my favorite brewery. The beer is pretty good, but the best part of this brewery is how friendly and welcoming the culture is that most patrons seem to be aware. When i go in and don't know anyone, it's perfectly normal in the Blackfoot to ask a table with empty seats, "can I share your table?" And i usually end up in a conversation. It doesn't seem to me to happen most other places, especially outside of Montana. Also free popcorn. Who doesn't love a bar with free popcorn? After a long day of interviewing, all I wanted was some nice craft beer to go with my wings I got from The Bridge. To the taproom I go! The place was PACKED. Not a seat in the house until I went upstairs and found a small counter up against the wall. PERFECT. Sat down, and a wonderful staff member helped me pick out a flight of beer. Absolutely loved the oatmeal stout and actually enjoyed their single malt IPA - and I usually hate IPA's! In general the beer was all pretty mild - no super strong flavors. Makes for very drinkable beer but left me wishing for a little more oomph. Montana has a strange law about the amount of beer a taproom can serve...48 oz per customer and closes at 8. So keep that in mind when going! I was able to get a flight and two beers and that served me just fine. Really appreciated they allowed me to bring my food in from next door. Bonus points there :) wish I had experienced this place in the summer so I could enjoy the patio view! read more

Yay Blackfoot! From its classic community taproom feel to the quality ingredients they use this place is a standout brew house. Truly one of the only great breweries left in our region. Most of the local breweries (in Montana) have decided to start distributing one way or another which typically leads to cheaper ingredients in order to stay profitable since beer dist. Has such a low profit margin. The only way to get really quality beer is by finding gems like Blackfoot. They can use better malt to increase the value and taste of their product because they are not trying to reach some Kind of distribution amount volume. Their single malt IPA is one of my favorites. The double is also fantastic. The bar keepers are friendly and knowledgeable. Like most tap houses they count your drinks for the tap house state limit and do not serve food. They offer popcorn and the ability to bring in outside food. The pizza place just next door is a great option that I have used twice! You get a free pour with a growler fill so if you're from out of town bring those growlers to take home and get your drink for free! They also do FULL growler fills, not just to the neck so it will keep the beer fresher longer and you're getting better value. read more

I used to live all of 200 feet from this brewery and the taproom, and it's one of my favorite breweries. I love their IPA. The new building is amazing. The old building (in the same location) was much smaller, and had the character of being a small town, local brewery. The new taproom has double or triple the seating, and is well lit, with lots of natural lighting. A very warm feeling, yet still maintaining much of the original charm of the original. I had the good fortune to get to have their Imperial IPA, a seasonal brew that was $5 a pint and described: "This is the traditional method of Real Ale dispensing in Britain. Unfiltered, unpasteurized beer is lightly re-fermented in a cask (in our case a firkin) to produce natural carbonation. The ale is then served at cellar temperature (approx 55F). The beer is pumped with a "beer engine" which pulls the beer from the cask and creates a dense natural head on the beer. This traditional method of service (without CO2) allows the very subtle flavors and aromas of the beer to come through. Imperial IPA at 9.7% abv" The other pints are $3.75 (limit 3 a day due to Montana laws regarding taprooms), and are all delicious. This is also a great place to run into locals, and a fair amount of unofficial business occurs here over a pint or two. One of the best parts of living here was getting growler fills - $7 on Wednesdays, and you get a free pint too! (Though back in the old building, they were a true steal at $5.) read more

As far as gems of Helena, MT go, Blackfoot sparkles. Excellent beer selection, I am infrequently disappointed at the various beverages that have been available in past visits. I'm not a huge fan of the Scottish Ale. Their cream ale is a staple not to be missed. I've never done their sampler but others have mentioned that it is an excellent deal with plenty o' variety. Free popcorn. Great atmosphere. Servers seem to enjoy their job and are good at what they do. Only downside is that you can only get 4 beers a visit, but if anything, it prevents them from dealing with trouble. Plus, there's always Millers next door.... read more

They were also super patient with my daughter when she was trying to decide on a drink even though they were very busy! So I ordered a stout. DELISH! But the crazy part is that for a beer for me and a soda for the kid it was only $6. Compared to what we were paying in the last state (the name that shall not be mentioned) that is a steal! Went looking for a beer in a town we're not familiar with. Was 98 degrees. We have a dog so dude behind the bar said we could sit outside, in the direct devil sun (100% not his fault, rules are rules). A really sweet lady came by (guessing she's the owner) and said she has a sweet shady spot we could sit in and tended to us and our hot lil pup like we were family. Thank you so much. We really enjoyed this brewpub! We were able to get a seat right by the railing during a perfect summer day. Every beer I've tried here has been great. My current favorite is the Tartanic Scottish Ale. I also love that they have free popcorn with yeast, free pints with growler fills, and a lively atmosphere. At busy times there may not be a place to sit, but you can usually get one soon if you stick around, or share with some strangers and make new friends! Also a great place to meet friendly, active folks if you're new in town. It's easy to get pizza next door and bring it over to enjoy with your beer. read more

Perhaps the greatest brewery in the galaxy. They maintain an excellent selection of beers year round, but their seasonal brews are not to be overlooked. I would give a sixth star if the Pilsner was available more often. Often 'standing room only', so be patient if you'd like a table or just get there early. If you need some fresh air, head upstairs to the deck, but be warned, June - Sept it will be shoulder-to-shoulder as well. BRBC does a lot to give back to the community as well (Community Mondays, Symphony Under the Stars), which is just the cherry on top. Enjoy. read more

Montana has great microbrews. Blackfoot ranks up there with some of my favorite. The brewery serves beers from 2-8 every day (unfortunately Montana has some weird liquor laws), and you can only get 3 pints (again with the laws). Just order the Scottish and you'll feel like you drank 7 Millers. Great outdoor area upstairs, popcorn, and friendly people. read more

I haven't been to Blackfoot in a long time, but when I lived in Helena, I definitely enjoyed their beer. For my own tastes, they have the best micro/craft beer I have ever had. I now live in CO, good beer in Colorado, but I have not yet found anything quite as good as Blackfoot. I really like how they make (or made?) specific beers for businesses in Helena. Blackfoot Bitter was my favorite. They didn't have food (well, they did have popcorn) but Millers is next door, for a food alternative and Mediterranean Grille a couple spots down. Its become one of my favorite spots in Helena since I moved here. They've got some great beers on tap, I'm a fan of their porter and cream ale, but I always love to see what seasonal brews they have going on. Great place to spend an hour or two, plus they have a pretty great deal on growlers. The staff is all super friendly and they have bowls of popcorn to help keep you nice and salted while you fill up on beer. Be forewarned, its a popular place and can get pretty hard to navigate on the weekends, especially closer to last call. Still, don't let that discourage you from stopping by and giving it a look. read more

Blackfoot River Brewing Company is one of the finest brewers of hand-crafted ales in all of Montana. The Blackfoot IPA is quite possibly the best beer I have ever had. The quality of the beer is second to none, though ever since they moved into their brand new, much larger location, the consistency of the flavor is prone to a little more fluctuation that I would like. Sometimes the IPA is a little more bitter, sometimes less hoppy, sometimes more hoppy. All in all though, it's a fine, fine brew. The staff at the Blackfoot is smiley and friendly. The place can get pretty crowded after 5 p.m., especially on "cheap growler" night (Wednesday) and Fridays. My one complaint is the price. Their beer prices went up on the order of 75 cents during the "great hops shortage of 2007," and then never came back down when the price of hops stabilized. Brewers across the state justified this jump in price due to the hops shortage, but then they never returned to their much more reasonable beer prices after hops prices came back down. I think that's a little disingenuous and I've always been a little bitter about that. overall though, Blackfoot is quite possibly the best of Montana's plentiful quality micro-breweries. read more
