I called and spoke to guy who said he was the owner and he basically told me how it was my fault because he gave us an estimate in 2016 and we didn't call him back. He also stated that he has no control of the technician. I'm unsure as to how he is the owner speaking to his customer this way. This is a neighborhood hardware store run by a middle aged couple. It is small and has a limited floor display area. Most of the merchandise is on rows of shelves behind the counter. Shoplifting in this area is epidemic. Still the proprietors are very friendly and helpful. They speak fluent English and Spanish. It cannot be easy for them to stay open in this often dangerous neighborhood. Also, there is a H*** De*** just about a quarter of a mile down the street. I would rather pay extra and keep this family business operating than give my money to a big corporation. Parking is readily available on the street. read more

So this dude dressed in skateboarderish wear in a van pulls up..ear rings and all..his partner - a cute gal in the passenger seat with dark shades and in hot tights !!....He asks for ID.. opens the van door...its got monitors all over, some machines..a small dish on top....str8 out of a spy movie !!..all he needed was the VIN# (kinda scary huh ? ) and i got 2 spare keys ! for half of what the dealer quoted. read more

My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee key wouldn't turn. The steering was locked and the key wouldn't turn at all. All of the forums regarding the problem (gear head oriented) had me jamming the wheel left and right and trying the key. I spoke to a local auto-repair outfit, Guerrero, in Pilsen, and they sent a tow truck, the driver tried it for a while and told me that it would need a locksmith, and while they could change the lock they wouldn't tow it to their shop unless it was an emergency, they recommended Omega. Omega told me that they would rather not come out if I could fix it myself. He carefully explained how to solve the problem, I told him I had been trying that method for four hours. He told me he would be there in 30 minutes and gave me a price. 20 minutes later the Omega truck showed up, took a copy of the key after trying to get it unstuck, and cut a copy and reset the tumblers in a new lock. He came back in ten minutes from his truck and had a new lock in in three minutes. He did give me a lecture about the need to change the Jeep/Chrysler locks as soon as they have problems (I had had the problem last year) but didn't try to make me feel bad. All in all, I highly recommend this second generation locksmith. Friendly, helpful, and willing to ensure that you can do it yourself before you spend money. Highly recommend using them, and you should keep their number handy! read more

In the type of freak accident that only I would get myself into, I locked myself out of my car with the key stuck in the door. I eventually got the key out, but the lock system was completely messed up (including the power lock), and until I had a chance to fix it, I was entering through the passenger side and doing the crawl through. Super classy. This guy has good reviews and seemed knowledgeable about the issue (apparently a lot of Honda's have lock issues). He was a little weird, always answering the phone with 'hello' instead of the name of the business (granted it's probably his cell, but if he's gonna use it as his business number, should probably at least answer numbers he doesn't recognize during business hours with a more professional greeting) and said he would charge a flat $95 rate with little information about what was going on and certainly without taking a look at it. Again, seemed knowledgeable, so I didn't question it too much, but looked around a little more. Thank goodness I did. After having it taken in and looked at, it turned out the lock cylinder had completely died and something called an actuator needed to be fixed as well. The dealer was charging around $500. Hell to the no. Other places said they would need me to purchase the parts from the dealer and bring it in, then charge $150/hr for labor. Eh. My sister was going to send me links to order the parts on line as well as a youtube video of how to install it myself. Are you kidding me? So, I called this guy back. After going over this extra info with him, he was still charging a flat $95. I wasn't sure why the huge price discrepancy and asked if he would be willing to take a look at it and see if it actually was the lock cylinder. He said no problem, bring it in. It took a while to find, partly because it's not an actual business. His parents own a hardware store and he uses the address. When I got there, he wasn't even there (despite me telling him I was on my way). His father eventually came outside, and took a look at the lock. This consisted of him poking at the broken lock with the key and confirming that yes it was broken, and again the $95. Confused as to what he thought was wrong and planning on doing, I tried to ask him to explain. He refused and told me to take it to the dealer! Moral of the story: this guy (and his parents) seems decent, maybe call him if you get locked out, but def avoid any additional work or service on your car. read more

Omega is special in that: (a) they are very responsive, and (b) they can replace auto keys most other locksmiths cannot. Many locksmiths can cut and program auto keys (most cars made since 2001/2002 have these transponder keys), but it depends on the model/make. I lost the keys to my Mazda3 and didn't have a spare, and I called 6+ different locksmiths (all reputable, highly rated on Yelp and very friendly) and 2 dealers. Unfortunately, none of the locksmiths had the software for my Mazda, but the dealers could replace the key for ~$200-250 (depends on dealer). Omega was the only locksmith who claimed he can do this, and quoted a similar amount to the dealer. So why Omega? For the dealer service, you have to get the car (towed) to the dealer, which would have been another ~$200 for us. To make the matter worse, the car was parked in a garage that faces a narrow alley, so it would have been challenging to get the car out to tow. So we called Omega, and Jose drove over to our place in Lakeview and had the key cut and reprogrammed onsite in a jiffy, using OEM keys. No funny business on the bill -- straight as he quoted. Problem solved! One thing that worried me prior to calling Omega was that there were only a few reviews on Yelp (all very positive... rightly so, btw) and most of them were out-of-towners with little Yelp activity. That turned out to be a needless worry, however; Jose is an IL licensed locksmith and he turned out to be as professional as they come. I would not hesitate to recommend Omega for any automobile key issues. read more

I HIGHLY recommend these folks. My wife and I purchased a used 2012 Camry that only came with one key. The sales people at the dealership tried convincing us that only a Toyota dealer could make us an extra key (for over $200 of course), but we decided to do some research. My wife bought an uncut key with attached remote for $30, and Omega charged us $75 flat to cut and program our key. We met them next door to their location (they were doing work nearby and have a van in case people need them to meet them elsewhere) and we were in and out in 15 minutes. Omega was cheaper than other estimates and showed up at my house right on time. I am extremely sadden about the poor service I received from Omega. I was given a task to find a locksmith to replace some locks throughout our office. I called a couple of companies before I decided on Omega. At the time the company seem like the perfect fit. Unfortunately it was not meant to be. The tech was late at our first estimate meeting but gave good service once he arrived. I called back later that evening for the tech to meet with my boss and the appointment was set. The tech pulled a no call no show. Yet I still gave him another opportunity to correct that missed appointment with a reschedule for today (1/17/20) and still a no show. When I called the office the manager answered, did not say hello and just started rapidly talking says "I don't think it was meant for us to link up today." "I called the tech but he's not answering....I don't know what to tell you." Tell me you apologize, tell me let me make this right, because what you told me is you don't want my business. I called to get a pair of remotes reprogrammed for my car and was told that they could take care of it in the afternoon. I was asked to call back before coming by. I called at the arranged time and was told that the locksmith had been called away to another job and would call me back in half an hour to make other arrangements. I never heard from them again. The cost to program two remotes was going to be seventy dollars. I ended up going to Transponder City who were fantastic, got the job done within a few minutes, and charged forty dollars for the pair of them. However, on day after he created my new car key, I HAD TO SPEND OVER $1,000 TO REPLACE MY ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL BECAUSE THE MECHANIC SAID IT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. I have a Prius, which, if you didn't know, is one of those cars that has about 50 different things preventing the car from being stolen, all attached to the keys. Unfortunately I lost them. The dealer wanted $1200 for new keys because they had to replace something in the engine, I said fuck that and called two other locksmiths, they both told me I needed to go to the dealer. Finally I called Omega and the guy comes out with his wife and gets me new keys that work **perfectly** within 20 minutes for $375... which is an incredible price considering the fact that everyone else said it had to be done specifically by the dealer... who was charging $1200 (which I was NOT going to pay). I lost my car key for my 2010 Subaru and was in a bind to get a new key. I couldn't get the car to the dealership to get the new key made, so I needed someone who would be able to come to me and make a very specialized key.
