I don't think it's a grill. It's more of a stove. If it was a grill, the open flame would burn the paper that you're more like sautéing your food on. There is no Grill flavor. It should be called Ombu sauté. I did ask if I could take the paper off and was allowed to, but it still had no grill flavor. Very disappointing that it's not a true Korean barbecue grill. read more

This place is amazing! Came here two times and was impressed both times. The first time came and it was slow the second time it was packed but the service was the same quality. Staff is very friendly and food/ drink came out quick. Staff works well as a team. The restaurant seemed pretty cleaned even though there is a lot going on from everyone cooking their food and all the things being delivered to us. The food taste amazing!!! I love that it is all you can eat appetizers and entrees with the option to have a cooked Korean meal instead. Such a fun experience to cook yourself and order whatever you want off the tablet. The ambience is comfortable. It has a very simple design but I like how it makes each table feel comfortable while maximizing their space. For two after tip we paid $67 to dine here. Food is outstanding. Great cuts of beef, chicken and seafood. They bring you the choices that you order, and then you cook on burner that is in front of you. The burner liner is changed out for every order. So no worry about burnt scraps and such. Service is top notch. The staff attends to every need and more. Cups are always full orders are always placed prior to finishing the previous order. So no waiting in between orders. Staff is very helpful in helping you with your order. Indoors, table tops, burners, rest of the establishment is well maintained clean and presentable. Overall appearance is very welcoming. Suburban Utah isn't synonymous with Korean food. However, bearing an appetite fueled by a long ski day and with the optimism of a man seeking the protein boost of unlimited bulgogi, I decided to gamble on Ombu for dinner one night last week. The restaurant was about a third full when I arrived, with one large party in the center. Their children were tearing around the restaurant, and had invented a game that involved throwing things into an unused grill. It looked quite fun, to be fair, and involved a lot of screaming and running, but it was rather distracting to a tired ski bum in need of a more relaxing meal. The food ordering system is via a tablet, where you pick what you want and - if n my experience - there's a 75% chance that the right item gets delivered to you. Sometimes your Kalbi will be pork belly, and to be honest you'll be glad it was because the kalbi itself is super tough. Similarly the beef tongue, which gave my jaw a workout it won't forget in a hurry. My tofu and kimchi soup contained a bonus unpeeled shrimp, which I found languishing at the bottom. Fortunately it was fully cooked. Rice paper isn't a thing here, but the rice dishes from the menu turn up cold anyway so it's almost the same. I hate to say this too, but one of the biggest issues I encountered was my server's lack of English, which actually made questioning the above shrimp incident - or indeed querying menu items - impossible. I tried, but he thought I wanted to order another bowl of the soup. Genuinely not hating in that regard, learning languages is tough plus I accept that English is not the native language of Korea and it's not like I speak any Korean, but it was rather frustrating at the time. So... why, you might ask, is this not a one-star review? Well... the brisket could've been way worse, the bulgogi was at least average, the pork belly was actually pretty good, and (until I found the errant shrimp) the tofu and kimchi soup was very enjoyable. Despite the communication issues, my server was diligent and friendly too, and I doubt the noisy children eat there every night. My own expectations are unfairly skewed too; K-town restaurants in LA take a lot to match. Will I go back? Honest answer: Probably not, but that may be as much my issue as theirs. read more

The service was SOOO BAD! Food was okay at best but i worry about sanitation. Ambiance is fine. When we got there, the table was still dirty The plates were almost never cleared. We had no water for 15 minutes. The only time the service was good was when they tried rushing us out the door. She literally checked the tips in front of us. I tip on service and it was the worst i have given in years unfortunately. I was ready to give a 20 on a 50$ bill. The tip wasn't great, but she asked if i made a mistake. This place was very clean, and the staff was friendly. Our waiter checked up on us periodically, and made sure we were doing okay. The meats were cut nicely, and they delivered our food to our table pretty fast. We also tried the takoyaki which came out hot and fresh, it was super delicious. We ordered the kimchee fried rice which was cooked well and had flavor. Ombu is honestly a great time if you get a group of friends together. It feels like a really modern k-bbq spot and everything works really well. It was nice to be able to have the little iPad that they gave you to order the meat or sides that you'd like. Food was good, sauces were good. Since it is all you can eat it is a little pricey. Also if soju is your thing expect about ~$14 a bottle. Waiter was really nice and was always there to replace the cooking paper that we had. My only knock against it would be that some of the sauced meats were a little lackluster. When I order spicy ribs I expect there to be some sort of kick, but I got a whole lot of nothing in terms of heat. read more

In town visiting family. They took us to Ombu, servers super friendly and helpful. Plenty of seating. You order on a tablet and they bring the raw meat and veggies for you to cook. We had pork belly, Hawaiian brisket, bulgogi, lo mein, fried rice. It would have been nice if the rice and noodles came out before our meat was done cooking. The sesame balls were more gooey than I've had before. You can order multiple times, start with a few items and then add some more. All flavors were really good. Pro-tip: You will smell (delicious) after this meal so you may want to plan accordingly (e.g going to a special event, etc.). I wear clothes I don't mind getting smelly and wear black bc things can splatter haha. I've been to other Ombu locations in the SL Valley, but my first time to the Layton one. Came on a Saturday for a late lunch with a party of 5 and wasn't busy. Service was friendly and quick! We did the AYCE (all you can eat). The selection seemed little small, but had good portions for the most part. We did not order any sides. When we were almost done with our meal, our server asked if we wanted to order anything else and they could bring out a smaller portion. I loved the option and offer - less food waste! :) The grill came lined with parchment paper rounds so it takes a bit longer to get a good grill on the meats (this is the first time I've seen this at a KBBQ). It does make for easier cleanup, less burning and smoke; don't worry, you'll still smell ;) I am personally not a big fan of marinated options in general, but did try a few. Everyone seemed to like the spicy pork belly. I wasn't a fan of the marinated short ribs which is sad bc I love short ribs, but the marinade wasn't doing it for me. The kimchsi were subpar (probably not up to the standards of halmonis/Korean grandmas). I was really excited about the cheese corn, but it was lacking - there wasn't enough cheese and started to burn on the bottom. The cheese didn't really melt, like it wasn't the correct kind of cheese for it. If the cheese component was better it would have been really good - it had a good flavor! The veggies had a good variety (zucchini, onion, mushrooms). In my opinion Ombu is generally a safe option for KBBQ. Overall I would come here again if I'm in the area but no high expectations. I've been on the hunt for a great Korean BBQ spot, and my brother-in-law recommended Ombu. Wow, what a find! At just $25.99 per person, it's all-you-can-eat, and you can order as much meat, appetizers, soup and etc. as you want, you only pay extra for drinks and dessert. The food is absolutely delicious, the prices are unbeatable, the ambiance is really nice, and the place is spotless. Everyone here is so friendly and welcoming, and to top it off, some of their boba drinks are buy-one-get-one! Easily my new favorite spot. I'll definitely be back again and again. read more

Oh my goodness. This is the first korean bbq spot that is all-you-can-eat in the area. I just don't understand why it took this long for this amazing place to finally show up. The demographics is already here, and there is a real miss opportunity to have a larger asian food scene in the north. Often time I have to go south, particularly in Salt lake city to get quality, authentic Korean food. This place is incredible. There is a lunch deal and a dinner deal. Be sure to look up the schedule for the deal. Basically, you're given a menu and you just pick whatever you want. It's all under the same lunch deal. It's a buffet essentially but the quality is very good. Make yourself comfortable and get anything to cook --- bulgogi, beef brisket, pork belly, or anything. The menu is reasonable with selections. And where they sit us we are literally an entire foot from the table with the "grill". I ended up scooting the whole bench forward cause my girlfriend couldn't reach in the slightest. My sons and I ate here on a Saturday. Every item we ordered was delicious and the portions were generous. We ordered a ribeye steak and expected a 4 ounce portion. It was actually a full sized steak. The food is okay, but I wasn't a fan of the paper they place on top of the grill.... it made the food really greasy, and the paper burned during cooking, which affected the experience.
