If you're wanting to leave with a full belly to the point you need to unbutton your pants, this is the perf spot. I went for the lunch buffet for $13.99 and feel like the BR location def has more options than the NOLA location (I haven't been to that spot in over a year though). There are some seafood options during lunch (salt and pepper crab, salmon, assortment of fish, and mussels) but if you want a wider variety, dinner is the way to go. I didn't try the sushi because the majority of them were always wiped out but the chefs in the back were doing their best to replenish whenever they could. Nothing to extraordinary with the sushi, I feel like you could get most of em at the grocery store. My favs at lunch were hands down the salmon and the baked mussels w cheese on top. The salmon was SEASONED SO WELL and I just kept going back for more. The mussels and cheese was def a hit too bc I could see the chefs restock every so often. There's unlimited boba (not included in the buffet) and I had the mango, which tasted watered down to me. The ice cream was amazing, got a mix of the taro and mango. The cakes were extremely dry and the mousse was the only thing saving it from totally crumbling in my mouth. For the most part, the food was piping hot, but there were a few options that were cold when I ate them, hence the 4 stars. The staff is friendly by helping us to find seating & getting our drink orders promptly. It's a buffet so we explored the options & it was very clean & neatly arranged. The have staff by the food if you need assistance with anything food related like ordering ramen, which I done separately. My husband and I have visited Ombu twice so far. On our first visit, we arrived around 7pm for dinner and it was PACKED. Im pretty sure we ended up, at what felt like, the least desirable table. This table was situated right next to a room with a dirty mop bucket that we could smell throughout our entire meal. For our second visit, we arrived for an earlier dinner at 5pm. The restaurant was pretty empty, and we were comfortably seated in a far more appealing area. While I can appreciate the extensive selection and variety Ombu offered, as well as the clean interior and friendly staff, I found most of the food itself disappointing. Although a few dishes were okay, many items that should have been served hot were cold, giving the impression they had been left out too long and some of the food items, especially the deserts, tasted as if they were of low quality. Hi okay. So I went in HOPING to find a new buffet that I could fall in love with. I heard a lot of great things. I DID NOT love anything about this place. The variety of food was incredible but everything I tasted lacked a real flavor. Everything tasted the same. Nothing jumped out as amazing. The atmosphere was uncomfortable and very off putting. I went so yall can ask any questions yall have about Ombu in Baton Rouge! Def a 9.5/10. I'm only knocking them bc they didn't have any boiled seafood options for lunch, but honestly at $13.99, I didn't expect them to have the same menu as their dinner options. They do include a 10% service fee for gratuity but drinks are only $1.99, which I thought was extremely fair. Tbh, the waitors deserved way more than 10%. The servers were really attentive & helpful. They have a Ramen section that you can order from your table and have brought out to you, if you're into Ramen. (I'm not a fan, so I didn't try any). They have Pepsi products, so if you're a Coke/Sprite girlie, just prepare yourself. Everything on my plate was exceptional, minus the braised pork belly (too fatty but I think that's what braised pork belly is supposed to taste like), the desserts, and the fruit. I can't eat ice cream right now but that might be the best route for a sweet finish, along with the fried dough. It was extremely clean by the bar/food areas and the owners were there quietly walking around ensuring everything was up to their seemingly high standards. My favorites were the steamed Pompano fish, garlic butter shrimp, the steak!!!, salt and pepper blue crabs, and salt and pepper shrimp. The salmon was really good as well as the shrimp fried rice. I couldn't really try much of the sushi options but the piece I had was really fresh and well made. I'd definitely recommend going for dinner if you are looking for more of the boiled seafood and sashimi options. Also, please note some of the boiled seafood is served cold so keep that in mind!! I'd imagine for dinner the boiled crawfish and shrimp are served hot but I was told the snowcrabs are served chilled, on ice, along with some of the reg boiled shrimp. There is a sauce covered boiled seafood option for the shrimp and I believe the blue crabs are served hot on the bar as well. Overall, I'll definitely be back for dinner and I'll let yall know what the kids think about everything. Which reminds me, I didn't see a way to measure their height so I'm still curious about how they'll go about that part, since kids pricing depends on height and not age. Service was great, had my drink refilled many times. Everything was clean and restocked pretty frequently. I am not sure the qualifications of when the boba machines are on or off but when I went they weren't in use. You pay before you sit down l and there is an automatic 10% service charge, which is both fine with me. My two sad faces are that the chairs (not the booths) are uncomfortable for a Louisiana wide hipped person and that they didn't have chocolate or vanilla soft serve. Wanted to try this place after seeing about it on someone's social media. Not disappointed at all. It was great. The ambience was amazing even on the outside. There are quite a few photo op spots to the side of the building extending towards the parking lot. Parking lot is extended to the back. The parking lot was packed by the time we came for lunch. The price is very reasonable. They do charge a 10% as service charge (not tip) for everyone and say Tips are not expected but accepted. And I have to say the service was great. Everytime we put a plate aside it was taken away under 30sec. Coming to the food, as you can see in the pics they have a large variety of items. Even kids would be very satisfied as they have so many kid friendly options too. I can say 90% of the items I tried tasted very good. Nothing tasted bad though. They were refilling the buffet line pretty fast too. And we can even see them preparing the food freshly in the back for some of the items. They also include ramen in the buffet price. For the dinner they include the milk tea, bobba and all. It is a great selection for the price point. Very satisfied. Will surely come back with kids again. The people were very curtious. read more

After hearing mostly positive things about this place, my wife and I decided to stop by on a Saturday night to check it out. Overall I was very satisfied by the variety and quality of food. My favorites were the steamed pompano, spicy garlic butter snow crab legs, and (I know this sounds crazy) the lemon cream cake. We enjoyed our meal but there were a couple things that bothered me. First, I thought that the price was a little steep. For my wife and I to eat it cost $72, which includes a drink and tip. I have no problem with a pre/included gratuity, but what I didn't like was that they didn't tell us this. They handed me the ticket to sign and I realized that the price was a little higher than expected, but then I remembered from previous reviews I had read about the pre-included gratuity. That said, I think a lot of customers probably don't realize this and add an additional gratuity. I think the people working the registers should make it more known the gratuity is already included, and then if you want to add more, fine. read more

For what it is, Ombu is just fine and provides the customer all you want. This is a buffet --actually, a buffet for lunch and a separate buffet for dinner----the lunch buffet is approximately $13 but done not include a beverage and you also pay a 10% service fee or tip----there is quite a few Asian type options available for the lunch buffet but little seafood and not a great variety of sushi---but still quite a bit and when you think about $15 for lunch this is not a bad price in January, 2025. The dinner price--or the weekend price is $30 plus the 10% service charge---OMBU provides more seafood options and more sushi (sashimi) options than at lunch plus the $30 includes a beverage. Additionally for those who like the drink, you can also get bobo drinks---in others more money/higher price but more selection. Again, in this day and age, a person charge of $33-$35 is not an excessive dinner amount, although you certainly can find dinner for much less than that amount. OMBU is housed in the former Nagoya location on Sherwood Forest drive and has been extremely busy since it opened around Thanksgiving, 2024, so many people have tried this place and of the many who have tried it, there has been much repeat business. From other reviews on Yelp and or other social media, not everyone has liked the food and or price but my experience there is such that I recommend you to try it for yourself and decide---I have not been back but I do plan to return as there is something avaiable to like and fill me up--ramen, sushi, fish, basic dim sum, some traditional Chinese offerings such as fried rice, General tso chicken, salt and pepper shrimp, garlic something, salads, and desserts. Is the quality and presentation something you will get at a Michelin restaurant? No but how many are? Also, the time I went, while busy there was minimal wait, and the staff was attentive in removing our plates and refilling our beverages --and in addition to being attentive, they were polite---no issues by me. I am of the belief that hot food should be served and kept hot and cold food cold. Anything else is a recipe for a food borne illness. Had dinner there and the food was excellent. I mainly had the traditional Chinese food and not much of seafood. They had a large selection of food to choose from. Everything I tried was good. They also have a large selection of deserts kept in a glass cooler. I tried the cheese cake and it was excellent, better than cheese care Bistro one. They also have different ice creams to choose from. The buffet area is large as is the seating area. If you like tea they also have 3 flavors of boba tea to choose from. The staff were very friendly and immediately saw to your needs. The price for dinner per person is just over 29.99 plus tax and an automatic 10% gratuity. For me the only negative was the cost that I felt was a little high. Can't blame them because some folks will eat like a pig! i have had some bad experiences at restaurants between gonzales and baton rouge, but none as HORRIBLE as this one. it starts as soon as you walk in, they make you pay upfront; which should have been a clue. they also charge you 10% gratuity so you don't have to leave a tip. i think we saw our waiter one time. they lie about the seafood. NOTHING on the buffet was hot. everything was nasty, and almost uneatable. it is only the third time in my life that i left an all you can eat buffet, as hungry as when i went in. i literally have eaten skunk that was far superior to this stuff. even the ice cream was nasty. i'm just sorry i had to give them one star. read more
