Excellent service, extra utensils at the table, no issues with the orders and never left unattended. Welcoming menu stand outside the front door, and humble yet clean dining area. The food was the best part! Take a look and see for yourself!

Came for a special dinner, 5 years after the last time we were here and everything is still so good! We always leave feeling very full which makes this place so worth it. Our favorite dishes of the night were the otsukuri, mushimono, and desserts. Chef George was splendid - remembering everyone's preferences and keeping the ambiance lively. Jonathan was a delight as well, making small talk between dishes and always made it feel like we were having a meal with friends. I always rave about this place to friends and I'm happy to say the quality of food/service has not changed. We can't wait to come back again!

Really delicious and fun omakase experience. Loved it and thought the food was good and the chefs were chatty and fun to talk to! Ambiance and service were wonderful and they accommodated our last minute reservation for my birthday.

This place was located in a pretty interesting area, but parking was surprisingly easy to find. We had a Friday night reservation for 7:45 PM and arrived around 7:30. The vibe inside was cozy and intimate, with lowkey music playing in the background, and we were seated right away. What made the night even more special was that it was my birthday -- they had a personalized menu waiting for me, which was such a thoughtful touch. I ordered a plum wine that tasted absolutely divine. One of the highlights was getting to watch the chef prep each course right in front of us. It felt like watching an art show unfold in real life -- every detail was handled with so much care and precision. Every dish tasted amazing; I didn't quite know what to expect going in, but it ended up being such a unique and memorable experience. The dessert, in particular, was SO good -- it really tied the whole evening together. Honestly, this felt like an unforgettable night, and I would absolutely come back for another special occasion!

Had a wonderful time at Omakase while they were hosting guest chef Hiroyuki Sato. The quality and diversity of fish, presentation and plating, ambience, and service were all first rate. The omakase experience here is deeply intimate, from the chef counter seating to the instructions to receive freshly made sushi with one's hands. I loved being front and center watching Chef Sato concentrate on his art, and Chef Yu helped make the experience delightful for everyone. Our server Jonathan was engaging as well - we really enjoyed the explanations of each sake during the pairing. The fish was exquisite (I didn't think I liked saba and uni before this, and each unique tuna was on a different level than the sashimi I'm used to!), the tamagoyaki and panna cotta were delicate, balanced, and not cloying, and I appreciated all the attention paid to details like sake/sushi temperature and the fresh ginger and wasabi. The experience was a bit of a splurge, but I feel that it was absolutely worth it for fancy omakase. For more of an everyday meal, I'm looking forward to trying sushi at their attached sister restaurant (Okane) sometime soon.

Incredible experience! My favorite Michelin star restaurant in San Francisco. It is a classic Japanese omakase with an elevated presentation. Loved the chutoro and otoro (tuna) cuts and the monkfish liver. I am not an uni girl but they get their premium uni shipped in from Hokkaido. The chefs are so charismatic and make the whole evening that much more special. I took my dad here for his birthday and he loved it! He even got a photo after with the tuna sword and chef!

Went here for my birthday a few weeks ago and had an absolutely incredible experience! A nice touch: they customized my menu for my birthday! I wish I had taken pictures of the food, but it was all delicious, the chefs were incredible and personable, and our sake-master was very knowledgeable. It's a bit pricey for an every day experience but would absolutely come back for another special occasion!

I had high expectations for Omakase after hearing so many great things, so I canceled another reservation and booked here for Father's Day. That's why I was extremely disappointed to find out just three days before that my reservation had been canceled. The only notification? A generic OpenTable message. No call, no email, no explanation. A last-minute cancellation like this without any personal outreach feels incredibly unprofessional. I was genuinely excited to try all the restaurants under the Omakase Group-Niku, Okane, Dumpling Time but this experience has made me lose trust in their reliability and guest care. Sadly, I won't be dining at any of their restaurants again, and I can't recommend Omakase to others. At this price point, you're much better off going to Kusakabe or Ju-Ni, where the service and attention to detail still match the quality of the food. Maybe this dip in customer care explains why they lost their Michelin star in 2023 or maybe it's what caused them to lose it in the first place. It's starting to feel like the group's focus has shifted more toward revenue than hospitality, especially after seeing Niku try to raise fund from the public on Gofundme for a fire that happend at their own restaurant. Really disappointing experience all around.

For sure the best sushi I've ever had in the States. All the fish is imported from Japan and the chefs have extensive culinary experience. The restaurant has a very intimate setting with only up to 12 guests at a time. Each course was a culinary work of art and blew us away. My partner also did the sake pairing and really enjoyed it. The fresh ginger was strong but really added to the experience. I don't typically go for wasabi but the authentic wasabi here was different. It was also fun to watch the chef grind it in front of you! Definitely a spot to consider if you're looking for a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience!

Visited Omakase for dinner recently and had a nice overall experience. Found the portions to be enough and didn't leave us too full, which is usually the experience we have at such omakase places. We were asked to wait in the little lounger area they have and were taken inside by the staff. Cozy place with 12 seats, dimly lit to give customers a welcoming experience. Very clean and minimalistic in decor. We ordered a bottle of Sake and didn't go with the pairing which the server informed us started with Champagne and ended with Pinot Noir with Sake in between. Everything the chefs served was delicious but left me retrospecting about previous omakase experiences that I think felt better. The starting dish of Lavender Infused Yuzu felt a bit out of place but the nigiri that followed were very delicious. There was some confusion with them replacing the wagyu dish for me since I don't eat beef and they waived half of the cost of the sake bottle for us to make up for the confusion. Overall a good experience and worth a visit.

So many pieces, you'll definitely leave full. Nothing really felt incredible or over the top amazing. The fish quality was great, but there was one that we did not like that had a very fishy taste. I had to keep giving some pieces to my boyfriend to finish. The uni was fresh and from Hokkaido. I've had better omakase, but the service here was impeccable and the wait staff was attentive. It's a very inmate restaurant with seats around the sushi chef. A memorable birthday meal.

Was this dinner a splurge? Yes. Was every piece of food masterfully crafted? Yes. Was the service Michelin-level? Yes. Would I come back? Yes. Omakase is by far the best omakase I've had in San Francisco. From the quality of food to the attentiveness of the service to the relaxed ambiance of the dining room, I was blown away by my meal. The meal is a bit pricey at $245 per plate, but everything that we experienced throughout our 2+ hour meal was well worth it. It was almost magical watching Chef Alan beautifully craft each part of our meal. From torching our wagyu nigiri to topping our o-toro with caviar, the standard of what I should expect at future omakases was blown through the roof. Additionally because the dining room was so intimate, it was so easy to chat with the chef and other parties seated during our dinner. I will let the pictures speak for themselves for how high quality the meal was, but i definitely encourage to try this place out if you're looking for a quality omakase in San Francisco.

    Ask the Community - Omakase

Do you recommend the sake pairing or better to just order a bottle? Which a better value? Lol

The pairing is better. Otherwise if you get a bottle you dislike, you will be stuck with it. Also, the sake pairing was really good though. I tried my neighbors lol. (They were nice enough to let me try haha)

Is this kids friendly, high chair?

Hi Tiffany, I would call to ask but I would say that this isn't really a kids-friendly place from my impression of it

    How long are the meals?

Hi Randall! My meal was between 1.5 and 2 hours long

What is the price for Omakase?

$195 per person, no drinks or upgrades included in that price.

For party of two, would you recommend bar or table?

Can't go wrong with either. All members of the staff are wonderful to interact and engage with so my preference would be the bar to get the full experience.

I made a reservation awhile ago and we are now shelter in place. Has anyone gotten in touch with omakase to reschedule? They haven't answered any of my emails.

I just posted the same thing. Emailed at least 3x and messaged on their Instagram too. Someone responded at beginning of March when shut down began, but now nothing. Not a cheap reservation too, I got it for total of 3 people.

Anyone interested in 2x bar tickets for Wednesday October 16th @5:45pm?. Pm me

Do you tip at this restaurant or do they follow Japanese tipping etiquette where tip isn't accepted?

This restaurant is in America, not Japan.

Does anyone know how much you have to pay at reservation? Would it be the full price, or a fixed amount (like $100)?

You pay full price for either sitting at the counter (preferred) or table at time of reservation. Sake pairing can be added latter. Reservations are non-refundable but can be transferred to another party.

    How do I make reservation?

    Their website. They use Tock.

Does the restaurant offer brown rice?

Not that I've seen and I would guess 'No' as the size and texture of the rice is different than traditional sushi rice and they are quite detail oriented.… Read more

Is byob allowed? How much is corkage?

Is the hideaki omakase enough food for an average person?

It's a lot of food. In fact, I felt over-full. That said, if you're a big guy used to all-you-can-eat sushi this might be on the lighter end. You can always order a few more bites at the end. There are some other extras such as an upgraded sashimi… Read more

This cozy spot mainly focuses on katsu plates, but I like how they had off menu or specials to choose from if you'd like another option. I will say though them katsu plates were just chef's kiss. The meat is pounded thin enough where it's still juicy and tender, but doesn't affect the exterior from being crunchy and a bit flaky. Nothing was dry here yallll! I also like how it already comes with miso soup and salad. Huge fan of that Hamachi Truffle special though. Think of a citrusy flavor from the ponzu, fresh fish, a bit of micro greens, and a thin slice of jalapeño that just ~works~ on a cute wooden spoon that you want to steal I could honestly eat like 5 spoons of this. I'd skip on the calamari as it was kind of skimpy to share with a large group. Only note was that their fried katsu curry was a bit underwhelming with having more slices of carrots than potato! Would love to come back if I am ever in the area.

We walked into a refined but welcoming space where the sushi counter is the main focus, and the meal unfolds course by course in front of us. There is a sense of calm throughout the room, allowing the attention to stay on the chefs, the ingredients, and the details behind each dish without the distraction of a busy dining room. The omakase experience balances traditional sushi with more creative touches. Each course brings something different, from fresh sashimi and nigiri to warmer dishes like chawan mushi that add depth to the progression of the meal. The sushi highlights the quality of the fish while incorporating thoughtful flavor combinations, with dishes like scallop and the dry-aged fish courses standing out for their texture and seasoning. The sake pairing fits naturally into the experience, adding another layer without overpowering the food, and the sommelier's selections complement the progression of flavors across the meal. What makes Kusakabe memorable is the craftsmanship and pacing of the meal. The chefs take time to explain each course, making the experience feel personal rather than rushed. Sitting at the counter adds to the atmosphere because you get to see the precision and care that goes into every piece, from the way the rice is formed to the final brush of sauce on the fish. Courses: - Chawan-mushi - super tasty and every bite was delicious and umami forward! - Otsumami - 7 seasonal appetizers presented in a beautiful box, there was a stuffed crab claw in there that was delicious - 4 kinds of sushi - each piece came out one at a time, the first piece was my absolute favorite and blew me away, it was a seared chutoro that immediately melts in your mouth and tastes smokey - Hamachi soup - very tasty and warming soup with hamachi inside, was perfect in between the sushi course - 4 kinds of sushi - A5 Waguyu shabu - this course was extra $10 pp but was so delicious, the wagyu was melt in your mouth and had some grated daikon on top in a ponzu dashi, the toppings help balance the meat so it's overwhelming since it does melt in your mouth, one of my favorite bites! - 4 kind of sushi - they brought out some really great sushis, including more chutoro and an unagi handroll, but I was so stuffed at this point that I felt I couldn't enjoy it as much - miso soup - this soup was so tasty and kind of revived me after all that food, it felt comforting and a great way to end - dessert- I got the hojicha ice cream in a waffle like cookie and it was delicious!
