    We came here for omakase. The restaurant itself is quite spacious and gives a high-end vibe. The service was outstanding and clearly high-end. The portions were just right so that by the end of it, you feel quite full but are not overwhelmed. They have an excellent selection of cocktails. Our menu had the following items: - Blue nose (decent) - Spanish Mackerel (good) - Mushroom with truffles (outstanding --- lovely broth) - Miso Black Cod (outstanding -- beautiful flavors) - Snow Crab clear soup (good) - Red Seabrem (good) - Pomfret (very good) - Soy cured medium fatty tuna (excellent) - Yellowtail (excellent) - Ocean trout (very good) - Butter poached lobster with caviar in a broth (very good) - Scallop (good) - Japanese Mackerel (decent -- not my cup of tea) - Toro (outstanding) - Uni (good, but strong) - Akamutsu --seaperch (excellent) - Miso panna cotta (excellent). Overall, the food was very good, but only a few of the items were wow. And for this price-point, that is not enough to receive 5 stars.

    My fiancé surprised me with dinner here for my birthday, and it was such a wonderful experience. We sat at the bar, and our chef made the evening feel special from start to finish. Every piece of sushi was incredibly fresh and perfectly prepared. You can really taste the care that goes into each course. Parking was a little tricky, but we found a spot in the nearby lot and it worked out fine. The whole night felt intimate and thoughtful--great service, relaxed atmosphere, and food that speaks for itself. A memorable spot for a special occasion.

    I'd rate this place a solid 3.5, but rounded up to a 4 to be generous. Sato's atmosphere reminds me of Japan. Before your reservation, you can enjoy drinks in one room, and once your table is ready, you're guided to another. The space is surprisingly large and has a sleek, modern vibe. For the price, the portion size is enough to feel full. However, the execution isn't as refined, some courses lacked delicacy, and the uni wasn't as fresh as expected. A few sushi pieces also fell short in quality. Overall, nothing particularly stood out as memorable or "wow." The staff was friendly, but the pacing felt rushed. Dishes were sometimes cleared before we were finished, and we had to ask them to wait. After paying, our jackets were brought out immediately, which gave the impression we were being pushed to leave even though we weren't ready.

    I visited Sato Omakase on a Sunday in June 2025. The omakase counter is located in a separate room next to Sushi Sato, run by the same owner. The space features a modern design with a long sushi bar, though the lighting is a bit dim. The restaurant is on Polk Street, but unfortunately, in the sketchier lower section. The omakase menu includes 17 courses, mixing traditional elements with a few modern touches: * kanpachi (torched), served with black truffles and edible viola flower * oyster, trout roe, daikon radish, ponzu * chawanmushi with uni and ikura * mozuku (seaweed), tosazu (Japanese vinegar), tomato * hirame (fluke from Jeju island/South Korea) * shima aji * hotate * bincho (albacore from Spain) * engawa (halibut fin, Jeju island) * butter poached maine lobster, osetra caviar * kurodai (black sea bream from Greece) * zuke masunosuke (king salmon from NZ) * uni * otoro (bluefin tuna otoro from Spain) * anago * akadashi (red miso soup) * yuzu panna cotta At the beginning of the meal, I had the chef to myself, as other guests arrived later. He sliced all the fish for the nigiri at once at the start of the service, which is unusual for a high-end omakase. As a result, the nigiri were served at a fast pace. The overall experience was good and well-executed. Highlights included the butter-poached lobster, the shima aji, and especially the engawa, a rare and welcome addition. I also appreciated the inclusion of uni 2 times in the menu. Bincho (albacore) was a bit unexpected, as it's not typically served in a high-end omakase setting. While many of the fish come from Japan or Jeju Island (which is perfectly fine), I was surprised to see others sourced from elsewhere, like the bluefin tuna and albacore were from Spain, the king salmon from New Zealand, and the black sea bream from Greece. For a restaurant at this level, a more Japan-centric selection might be expected. They brew their own beer in the basement, including varieties made from rice. The staff kindly offered a sample, which was a nice touch. The small starters felt underwhelming compared to other omakase spots in the same price range. A bit more complexity would have been appreciated. Service was excellent throughout.

    I came to celebrate me and my wife's anniversary and it was a great experience! The service was fantastic, everyone was very nice and attentive. They also gave us some champagne for our celebration which was very sweet. We enjoyed the omakase a lot. There are also a few fish we usually don't enjoy eating like mackerel but it was prepared very well to our tastes so that was a nice surprise. While dining here, you also feel very comfortable because of the dim decor. I did wish the employees in the kitchen next to us could keep it down though because their yelling and rowdiness ruins the vibe a bit when you're paying for the whole experience.

    We came here last night to celebrate two friends' birthdays and had high hopes based on the restaurant's website. We made a reservation for 20 people at 8:30 PM and were seated at two adjacent tables. We were especially looking forward to trying their Omakase experience, which was advertised online for under $100--a seemingly great deal. However, upon arrival, the Sato Signature tastings (Okonomi Tasting - $95 and Sato Tasting - $85) were not available. The only option close to what we expected was the Sushi Tasting (6 pieces) for $40. One of our tables opted for that and ordered a few additional dishes to share, including the Maguro Donburi, Negitoro, and Crab Miso Risotto. Not only were these portions tiny, but they were also significantly overpriced for what we received. An hour passed with no food. When our waiter finally approached with a tray, it was just soy sauce. We didn't receive our sushi tasting until nearly two hours later, at 10:13 PM. Unfortunately, the presentation and quality didn't live up to the price or our expectations. What was meant to be a celebratory evening turned into a frustrating experience due to the long wait, unavailable menu options, and underwhelming food. For the price and hype, this was deeply disappointing. I'd recommend checking out one of the many other sushi spots in San Francisco that offer better food and a smoother dining experience.

    I like omakase but its not something I have to experience all the time. Especially here in the bay area, omakases blew up in the city became all the rage. If I'm going to pay $$$$, the meal needs to blow my socks off. We made reservations for 5pm but realized we couldn't make it that early. When they opened at 5pm, we immediately called and was able to change the res to 7pm so we really appreciate their flexibility. The 18 course dish sounds like a lot, and probably is if you had a late lunch, but each bite was light, simple, and had umami flavor. Out of the 18 dishes, ,my favorites would have to be the chawan mushi, barracuda, lobster, and toro. All of the nigiri were very fresh but nothing mind blowing. The service was really great and the food was ok. Not sure I would come back but this time it was more for my friend than the meal itself. This omakase was OK-kase.

    By far the best Omakase experience in SF. Having dined at some of the city's finest spots--The Shota, Kusakabe, Akiko, Sushi Hon, and Hinata were my top favorites--Sato Omakase has officially taken the top spot on my list. From start to finish, every aspect of the dining experience was flawless. The service was impeccable, with a warm and attentive team that made us feel completely taken care of. Chef Le was not only masterful in his craft but also incredibly engaging, taking the time to explain each dish and interact with our group in a way that felt genuine and memorable. Every piece was melt in your mouth fresh, perfectly balanced, and presented with an artistry that matched the quality. The drinks menu complemented the meal, and the atmosphere was intimate yet elevated, making it perfect for a special occasion or simply treating yourself to something extraordinary. Worth the dining experience, and one that sets a new standard for omakase in SF.     Sato Omakase has been on my bookmarks for so long. All my friends who have been here said it was delicious! Finally made a reservation to celebrate our 10 year anniversary dinner with my boyfriend. Parking is a little difficult in this area but luckily we got a spot. There is 2 restaurants so one is more casual and if you want to do the omakase you have to book Sato Omakase on OpenTable! Came here on a Friday night at 7:30pm and the bar was packed. We opted for table seating since it's more comfortable. Everything was good, usually there's 2 or 3 things my boyfriend doesn't like but surprisingly everything was good. My favorite was the uni toro bowl which was an add on supplement. Definitely worth the splurge. Service was incredible, our water was never empty the entire night. Staffs check on you pretty often. Bill for 2 omakase with tips was $625 total. Would I come back again? Most definitely! P.S We also enjoyed their mocktails which was complimentary since it was our anniversary! :)

    Delicious omakase! Came for a birthday celebration with a group of 7, and we were seated in a quiet and classy space in the back. The dishes were all incredible and our host Victor was very knowledgeable about the thinking and process behind several of the dishes. Cocktails were delicious as well. In addition to the highest quality and fresh fish, we were graced with the wonderful hospitality of the best sushi chef, Andy! He was great in making us feel welcome and comfortable, and took great care with each dish. It's evident he is incredibly skilled and we would come back just to enjoy his work again. The restaurant was also so wonderful in celebrating our friend's birthday with a piece of cheesecake on the house. Tip: definitely get the uni bowl if they offer it as a supplement! Absolutely incredible. Husband's review: Every piece of omakase was immaculately prepared to highlight the incredible quality of the fish. This was also the most pleasant experience I've ever had with a chef. Thanks Andy!

Overall, good experience - quick, efficient service and satisfying meal.
