We had a great time at Robins and the service was fantastic. I appreciate that the restaurant has a slide scale of price and customize your omakase based on your budget and what you liked. My favorite piece was the one with uni and crunchy seaweed.

We came to Robin to celebrate my birthday. We made a reservation off Resy and were seated at the sushi bar. The door to the entrance is a little discreet as there's no indicator or sign that says it's Robin. The way the restaurant works is that you pick a price point starting at $119 for the base and can go upwards. Our chef recommended starting at the base and then you have the option to increase your budget which is what we did. I would definitely recommend doing that as well since I'm not sure if you start higher, would that mean you get the base items including more nigiri or does that just mean you get more premium fish? The nigiri for the base items were standard. I felt as though some items could've had more wasabi, salt, or sauce on them as it was quite simple and clean. I was also underwhelmed with the house made potato chip and caviar item. When we started increasing our budget, we tried the Kama toro, otoro, cod, and Alaskan salmon which were all my top bites. Overall, we ended with about 20 pieces/courses in total and left extremely full. I would say the base price is a good starting point for someone who wants Omakase, but you have to ask your chef for specific fish that you like and you basically pay for what you get.

Came for a friend's bday and it was excellent!! --Great service & v friendly --Cute, cozy, moody interior --Creative & yum sushi --Unique & fun serving plates/bowls Love the sliding scale of cost to determine your menu. Server also asked us if we had any preference in fish so he could ensure we get what we like (we said open to all!). Also made sure to ask about things we don't want to eat and ensured those were met. So good all around!

Robin was hands down one of the best omakase experiences I've ever had. The service was exceptional, the food was spectacular, and the entire evening felt unique and memorable from start to finish. Once we were seated, the chef asked what type of experience we were looking for, with pricing ranging from $119-$219 per person. He then took the time to ask about our likes and dislikes so he could truly tailor the meal to us. I loved that the experience was completely customized -- based on your price point and preferences, you receive a curated tasting that feels personal and thoughtful. We chose the $219 per person experience, and it was absolutely worth it. The photos I attached don't even include all of the dishes we received -- the courses just kept coming. By the end of the meal, we were completely stuffed (in the best way possible) and so impressed by the generosity and pacing of the experience. Every dish that came out was beautifully plated and incredibly fresh. The fish quality was outstanding, and each flavor pairing felt intentional and perfectly balanced. You can really tell how much care goes into every bite. I'm already looking forward to coming back! One quick note: parking in the area can be tricky, so I recommend giving yourself extra time to find a spot.

I wasn't expecting much from this place. I've done countless omakases at all levels and I dont usually prefer contemporary omakases because I find the presentation and ingredients just end up not working or masking the flavor of the fish entirely. This was not the case at Robin! First of all, amazing value! $119 per person for 10 courses and dessert. Our server also threw in a sake shot and a small serving of plum wine came with dessert. You can order more if you feel like it but I came away full, buzzed, and happy. We sat on the patio and it was a little chilly but there are heaters and it was nice to have some privacy. Service was great and perfectly timed and we never felt forgotten. Some standouts: Toro + uni on perfectly toasted nori, potato chip nigiri with caviar, wagyu + foie gras nigiri, dessert was non dairy coconut soft serve with sea salt, cardamom caramel sauce, and dark chocolate chips. Will def be back when I'm in town again to try the full $210 omakase!

Had a nice overall experience at Robin. The food was fresh and well prepared, and you can tell care goes into the dishes. While the quality was good, the pricing felt a bit high for what you get, but everything still tasted solid and enjoyable. The ambiance was quiet and intimate, which made it a great spot for a relaxed dinner. Service was also good and attentive throughout the meal. They even gave us a complimentary glass of champagne to celebrate our anniversary, which was a really thoughtful touch. Overall a pleasant experience and a nice place for a special occasion.

For anyone wondering - yes, Robin lives up to the hype. Went there for my partner's birthday dinner a few weeks ago and was blown away. For a pretty pricey omakase experience, the vibes were not pretentious at all, which I truly appreciated. The service was also amazing, they even gifted us some sake in between courses. Really impressed by my experience and would highly recommend for a special occasion!

Truly had such an amazing experience here that I wish I could give more stars. Made a reservation for my boyfriend's birthday, which was easy to do through their website. Be warned that they charged for last minute cancellations and no shows, which is pretty standard for restaurants like this. This was the first omakase experience for my boyfriend and I, and our expectations were truly exceeded. Parking seems to be street only, but on a Monday at 5:30pm, we luckily found street parking just across the street. The ambiance was very lively and high energy. My boyfriend noted that they played bay area classics, which I think fits the cool vibe of this place. I can't remember everything we tried, but everything was delicious and we left full. Each dish was thoroughly explained and presented beautifully. Even provided a birthday dessert at the end. Definitely a restaurant for special occasions but I highly recommend!

Creds to Chef Dava for making our omakase experience one to remember! I felt totally spoiled. Every bite was delicious, but my favorites consisted of the lime hamachi, wagyu with foie snow, uni spoon, thai inspired salad, akami, and black snapper. I know one of Robin's signatures is the potato chip nigiri, but personally, I wasn't the biggest fan. I did love the creativity and variety of fish we got to sample, though.

Omakase only, you pick your price Came here for dinner before the Nutcracker (right across the street from SF ballet!). We sat at the bar which we preferred to be able to speak with our chef throughout the meal. Everything was fresh - lots of fruit/nut features. Unfortunately had to skip on dessert to make it to the show.

Had a great time here sitting at the counter! Definitely go for counter seating if you can. Our chef explained each dish and was really attentive to what we liked or didn't like. This isnt the place for traditional sushi omakase. They play with a wide range of flavors and often those flavors overpower the fish. Personally I really enjoyed it, it was fun and almost everything tasted amazing. The vibe is very casual which I usually don't mind but some of the music choices were questionable (WAP).

Update : Changed to 1 star because my friend got food poisoning from their sashimi. It was so unfresh she's still unwell and bedridden today (Monday) This was a very disappointing experience. I gave 2 stars just to be nice, one star goes to the cozy, intimate atmosphere with a modern touch. I had noted during the reservation that it was my birthday, but there was no acknowledgment at all. No note, no "happy birthday" at the table. The service was also lacking. We weren't given an Omakase menu, so we had no idea what we were eating. There was no palate cleanser (ginger) unless we specifically asked, and when it came, the ginger was overly strong and unpleasant. I've had many Omakase experiences before, and none of them had a palate cleanser this poorly prepared. The food itself was the biggest letdown. - The shaved foie gras was overpowering, and I couldn't even taste the Wagyu it was paired with. - The sesame noodles were so oily it felt like I was drinking oil. - The corn soup was watery and clashed with Sichhan spicy taste sauce, they just didn't go well together. - Sushi rice was dry, not fresh, and completely disappointing. - The potato chips with caviar and rice didn't work at all. The chips were cheap and not even homemade, the rice completely overpowered the caviar, and all I could taste was rice. - Each sashimi bite had a slight bitterness with undercooked rice that made it unpleasant. Nothing flowed well together, and nothing tasted fresh. Even the desserts were underwhelming. The coconut ice cream was overly creamy and sweet. Compared to the unfresh and poorly executed dishes before it, the ice cream was at least edible, but far from impressive. I've dined at many Omakase restaurants, and I've never had one that failed from start to finish. Both my friend and I ended up with stomach flu afterward. I won't be returning.

    Bo B.

Overall the sushi was good. They let you pick omakases based on a price you want to pay and that starts from $150 and up. The service was fairly good. It's a relatively large restaurant so there's plenty of seating at the tables and at the bar.

We tried a bunch of different things and I'm glad that we did because the nigiri was not the best thing on the menu. I would come back here for the other things like the box set (otoro, wagyu, uni, ikura). The agedashi tofu was the best I've ever had. The teacup steamed egg was presented well but for the price nothing really that special. I suspect the price is high because of the caviar & ikura. It's not bad, but it takes a while, it's small and not anything that stood out like the agedashi tofu or the other items. The service was really good. They provided a small dessert for us because we were celebrating an event, that was a nice touch. Overall, id come back but maybe not for an omakase or just nigiri.

The chirashi don was $53 and did taste great, albeit sushi rice with amaebi, ikura, and uni is hard to make badly. The fries and burger shared the melted cheese sauce, which was basically a fancy velveeta. The burger did have a nice blush in spite of being served in a pool of bubbling cheese saucy. It was all just fine but egregious at $15 and $28 dollars. It does look nice for the gram, but is a bit overwhelming in terms of cheese. The best bite for me was the tebasaki, which were crispy and had a sweet yuzu kosho glaze. I could eat many of these, but the $19 plate had 4 wings (flats with tip attached). This was an overpriced, average meal at best. I am personally don't drinking alcohol, so I did enjoy the jasmine fermented tea I had. It's been a while…read more I actually came here for dinner a couple years ago after taking a long gap after the world changed in 2020. They stopped serving lunch, a rotational place for business lunches and when entertaining visiting friends. I noticed a sign a few weeks ago that they started serving lunch again (started in April, as told by our waiter). I was happy that this is now an option for these lunches again. In studying the menu, the selection hasn't changed much though it is pared down a bit with a few of my favorite appetizers gone (shishito peppers). My go-to in the past was the business set lunch, still available and what I ordered on two business lunches on consecutive Fridays. It comes with choices for a two-course meal, not counting the provide bowl of miso soup (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=48&select=oIkVbbqPY0HWG9y3YbriEA) and a bowl of rice. Yellowtail sashimi (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=rSCkN5J6l_tJ419JdnxrUg) with shallots and poached garlic ponzu - This is as I remember and a great start to this meal. b., 1st visit NY strip steak (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=4TTrlrBTj60xo_ejeBNg7A), medium rare, with sauteed Japanese mushrooms - I don't recall whether this was Wagyu or not prior to Covid but, with inflation since that time, it's still a pretty good deal at this price. It was hearty and the mushrooms were a good complement along with the bowl of rice. b., 2nd visit Black cod (4 oz) with mixed green salad - Sorry as the conversation was serious so I forgot to take a photo. I passed on this on my 1st meal but knew it would be my 2nd entree here. It was miso marinated with the meat being tender and flavorful. Again, great with rice. Do pay attention for bones (they are larger) as I got two on my piece. Shared dishes: a. Sweet corn with soy garlic butter (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=Fviru3AbJYA_41PQ8geaTg) - There are four to an order so one diner had an extra cob. Salmon tataki (4 pc) with brown butter ponzu (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=I18uKPl-QG0wVQrUUWAglQ) - A lighter shared dish where the ponzu didn't overpower the salmon. The following week, the dining room was about 2/3rd full and there were two waiters manning the dining room. Our waiters, two different ones for each lunch, were very professional and cordial. The service was decent, but nothing special and felt distant. While they wished us happy anniversary, there was no complimentary dessert, glass wine, decoration, etc. Which is okay, some places do and some don't. We ordered a couple of appetizers, a carafe of sake, and a couple of entrees and there was some difficulty and confusion with the order in which the dishes came out, which wasn't a big deal, just as little out of sync with the meal. The appetizers were great, I had the edamame which were perfectly cooked and salted, and my wife loved her rolls and sushi. My steak was beautiful, the presentation was immaculate, and the garnishes were delicious and overall tasted good, but there was something about the combination or maybe the chimichirri sauce that didn't quite hit as there was no high note, just a good baseline steak. I also ordered the sweet corn and that was simply amazing, the flavors were outstanding and utterly delicious. Overall a good dinner, but it didn't really feel like a $300 experience. I probably wouldn't return at that value.

We ordered a few dishes to share: Mushroom gyoza ($12) - came with 6 potstickers and a dipping sauce. Nothing super special. Hijiki salad ($13) - light and filled with seaweed, as expected. Got a few bites of the tofu puffs, but not much fish cake. Mentaiko spaghetti ($19) - not super creamy and with good flavor. Usually with these types of dishes, I'm concerned that it's too buttery or fishy, but this was spot on! Gyudon ($19) - egg looked like it was cooked beautifully. Katsu curry ($22) - good presentation, seemed to have quite a bit of rice. I didn't try the last two dishes, but I was told they were good. Nothing crazy special though. Personally, I think the noodle dish was the best. We also tried their Hokkaido cheesecake, and that was probably the only disappointing item. It wasn't as light and creamy as the ones I've had in Japan (LeTao will always be the gold standard in my heart). I ate a couple of bites and decided it just wasn't worth the calories. Service was friendly and I appreciate that there's outdoor dining. I saw a few furry friends, but if I didn't have pets, I would likely prefer to sit indoors. Seats seem more comfortable inside.

We walked into a refined but welcoming space where the sushi counter is the main focus, and the meal unfolds course by course in front of us. There is a sense of calm throughout the room, allowing the attention to stay on the chefs, the ingredients, and the details behind each dish without the distraction of a busy dining room. The omakase experience balances traditional sushi with more creative touches. Each course brings something different, from fresh sashimi and nigiri to warmer dishes like chawan mushi that add depth to the progression of the meal. The sushi highlights the quality of the fish while incorporating thoughtful flavor combinations, with dishes like scallop and the dry-aged fish courses standing out for their texture and seasoning. The sake pairing fits naturally into the experience, adding another layer without overpowering the food, and the sommelier's selections complement the progression of flavors across the meal. What makes Kusakabe memorable is the craftsmanship and pacing of the meal. The chefs take time to explain each course, making the experience feel personal rather than rushed. Sitting at the counter adds to the atmosphere because you get to see the precision and care that goes into every piece, from the way the rice is formed to the final brush of sauce on the fish. The pacing of the meal allows you to appreciate each course without feeling rushed, and the team's attention to detail creates a rhythm that keeps the meal engaging from start to finish. Kusakabe feels like a place made for special occasions, celebrations, or anyone looking for a more elevated Japanese dining experience. It combines technique, hospitality, and creativity in a way that makes the entire meal feel like an event rather than just a dinner. The balance of traditional and modern elements, along with the warmth of the service, leaves you with the sense of having experienced something complete and thoughtfully composed.

What an experience! We were celebrating an anniversary and planned a bit last minute, but were able…read moreto snag a reservation here pretty easily. Immediately, the ambiance and service was quite nice. We were seated at the table, but typically I enjoy sitting at the bar to watch the chefs make our food. The service was amazing and they were very attentive. They also offered to take photos and gave us a little gift of hojicha tea since we were celebrating. We got the omakase, which was massive and had 18 courses. They gave us a menu so we knew what to expect for each course, and we ordered some sake. The omakase was delicious and more traditional than other places, each course was so beautiful and delicately made. This is definitely a lot of food, I would recommend the petite omakase in the future as I was stuffed, but it was a great experience if you come hungry! Courses: - Chawan-mushi - super tasty and every bite was delicious and umami forward! - Otsumami - 7 seasonal appetizers presented in a beautiful box, there was a stuffed crab claw in there that was delicious - 4 kinds of sushi - each piece came out one at a time, the first piece was my absolute favorite and blew me away, it was a seared chutoro that immediately melts in your mouth and tastes smokey - Hamachi soup - very tasty and warming soup with hamachi inside, was perfect in between the sushi course - 4 kinds of sushi - A5 Waguyu shabu - this course was extra $10 pp but was so delicious, the wagyu was melt in your mouth and had some grated daikon on top in a ponzu dashi, the toppings help balance the meat so it's overwhelming since it does melt in your mouth, one of my favorite bites! - 4 kind of sushi - they brought out some really great sushis, including more chutoro and an unagi handroll, but I was so stuffed at this point that I felt I couldn't enjoy it as much - miso soup - this soup was so tasty and kind of revived me after all that food, it felt comforting and a great way to end - dessert- I got the hojicha ice cream in a waffle like cookie and it was delicious!
