Donuts!!!! Who doesn't like donuts? They are one of my favorite foods of all time. I am always on the lookout for donut shops I've never eaten at. Olympic Donuts in Pico Rivera was an easy walk from my Mother n'law's doctors office. So I decided to walk to the shop to try their goodies. This Mom and Pop donut shop has a few tables inside, and a few student desks outside. The morning I visited there was still a nice selection of donuts to choose from. I chose my " go to" donut which is the Custard filled chocolate donut. In addition, I tried their Chocolate French Cruller donut. Both were delicious. Definitely worth the few blocks I walked to get to their shop. Chances are very good that I'll be returning whenever I take Mama to her doctor close by. read more

I went inside and waited a bit to order donuts. After when they were already bagged and I was being ringed up the guy said oh no only cash. I said, "really?". I looked for a sign and didn't see anyone anywhere. I told the guy "it would be nice if you had a sign so that customers aren't wasting their time and yours". He said, "it okay you use the atm machine it ok". I told him no the charge to use that machine will be more than the price of the donuts, I don't think so. He was clearly upset that I didn't want to use the atm machine to purchase the donuts. Oh well, maybe you should have a sign that says cash only. The lady that attended me was super friendly and kind and even threw in three complimentary donut holes! Nice hidden gem in the city and I used to come as a kid on my skateboard all the time. With that being said, this small business is very popular among locals. Olympic Donuts is located on the corner of Rosemead Blvd and Telegraph Road. It's in a small two-story strip mall, on the east side of the structure. Parking is tough at times as many people leave their cars in the lot to catch the bus. Key times in which parking is convenient are anytime before 7:00 AM and after 5:30 PM. One thing that I like about Olympic Donuts is that they are true traditionalists. They tried to step it up by adding Oreo Cookies and Fruit Loops Cereal to their glazed donuts but that didn't go over well. People want a simple, straight forward, delicious donut. They stick to the basics giving you freshly baked, fluffy, and decent sized selections. I know some of us, including myself, are obsessed with the creativity that has gone into producing donuts that are one step ahead of the competition. However, many people prefer the taste of a simple donut. These donuts are plump, perfectly iced, and have great flavor. Even if you get there after 5:00, they still taste close enough to to fresh. I don't know what they're doing when they bake their donuts, but they need to keep it up! Given that Olympic Donuts is open 24 hours, many find it convenient to stop by at any time of the day. I have come here late at night and still found people sitting at the booths, reading the newspaper and just relaxing. No matter the time or day that you stop by, you will always be greeted by friendly people behind the counter. They always remember your last conversation and ask you how life has been since your last visit. I absolutely love that the owner's husband always tells me, "See you tomorrow". They never know when they'll see me but they're always happy when I stop by. Their donuts used to cost $0.80 but now their average price is $0.90. They're worth every penny and they tend to toss in a free donut hole or two! When I bought a few dozen donuts for my coworkers, they gave me a free donut on top of that! Speaking of my coworkers, whenever I've brought some of Olympic Donuts' tasty treats to work, there were never any leftovers. People constantly asked where I bought the donuts and they're surprised as to the quality of the donuts from this little shop. My students also love their donuts as well. Nothing beats the deliciousness of Olympic Donuts! These donuts have been kid-tested and coworker approved! At the moment, there is a lot of construction on Telegraph Road so it can be a bit tricky getting in and out of the lot. I believe this store is open 24 hours. Run by an older Asian couple who seem to know everyone, it is one of the surviving neighborhood mom-and-pop businesses in the area. Sometimes I go early in the morning to get a dozen for everyone. Depending on the time of the day you show up, you'll find a decent variety of donuts on display. The place looks clean enough. They have an ATM in the corner. And the last time I went, they had a sign saying they offer shaved ice. Haven't tried it and I'm not sure if I want to only because I think it's going to be too much sugar. I mean, hello! Donuts! They have a couple of seats available and I sometimes see young kids hanging out there. Date night for high schoolers, maybe. Parking is hit or miss. There's a lot of stores in this area and the parking lot is small to begin with so it gets packed really quick. It's too bad that their donuts are so delicious, but the way they treat their customers is horrible! I went in and bought 5 donuts, and because they're pretty big donuts, one would expect that he puts them in a box so that they're not crushed right? No, he proceeds to stuff them in a small, white bag! He charges me 7.25, and I ask him if I can have a box instead so that they're not crushed. He then changes my total to to 7.75! Our family has been coming here since 2005 and the service never changes! The people that work here are really nice and get to know you and your family. The coffee and doughnuts are good and taste even better with the wonderful customer service. Our favorite is the Banana Nut Muffin, especially the crispy ones ;-) I LOVE how I walk in the door and they know what I'm getting and have it ready for me. It's where I go for lemon jelly donuts. Mostly because it's one of the few places that sells them. I am boycotting Homestyle Donuts on Slauson due to an 'argument' over previously mentioned jelly donuts. Anyways the husband/wife partners there are pretty cool. They know my order and usually have it bagged up with my drink before enter the door. Alot of old timers here early in the morning reading their morning paper coffee and donut on the 'silver platters' they serve here. My only downer is most places kick down a free donut hole or something even if only occasionally. I figure if i'm in there 4-5 days a week spending my money there and clogging my arteries the least they can do is hook up a free cholesterol chaser donut hole. Bonus they've let me slide a couple times when I forgot to go to the bank beforehand. But they remembered and reminded first thing the next day. haha read more

I LOVE THIS DOUGHNUT SHOP! They have my all-time favorite doughnuts ever: FRENCH CRULLERS!!! French crullers are so hard to find. Not all doughnut shops serve them bc, as I learned from asking around in my hunt for a doughnut shop w/ good French crullers, the dough is more expensive than the traditional doughnut dough and they are harder to make! So, many shops opt not to make them at all!! This shop has all the different flavor icings I love, too! (Pink, orange, white, chocolate, maple, sugar-dusted) Not only is it hard to find French crullers, but finding a place that makes GOOD crullers, is harder. These are by far the best made crullers I have yet to find in a small Mom-and-pop doughnut shop. I go there every Monday to have my cruller fix for the week. The woman that works there is always nice and knows I am there only for the crullers haha She knows how much I love them and has told me about a man from Arizona who always buys out all her French crullers whenever he is in town.
