Stopped here around noon cuz the reviews were good....went inside and was surprised at the limited amount of choices they had...I honestly just wanted a maple bar which ALL donut shops have.... except this one....so I chose to get 12 donut holes for $2.50 since I figure it's hard to mess those up...I tasted one and tossed the rest...they had hardly any icing on them and tasted stale! The donuts at this place are amazing. You can tell that when biting into one they are made fresh daily and the oil is not old. The best time to go get some donuts is in the morning when they open because they have been made fresh. The service is good the employees are nice and are kind. The ambience is normal just a usual corner store, a bit small inside. Overall I do recommend coming here! read more

I woke up this morning craving some donuts. So I yelped some donut shops to see which one to go to based on reviews. I came across these California Donuts. YELPERS, they're NOT the same "California Donuts" that are in Korea Town LA!!! How y'all going to confuse them??? Don't come here thinking you're going to find those "panda cookies n cream" donuts, "fruity pebbles donuts", etc. This is a regular donut shop like any other one around South East LA. It seems this is the South Gate spot. Right in the heart of South Gate, everyone one comes here. Sometimes it might get a little busy. It's really small in there. You have your old folks just chillin' there in the mornings. There is a great parking lot to park and walk to it. Getting down to the donuts, I bought a coffee and two donuts. They were really fresh and soft. I'll definitely come back to buy some here in the future. Coffee was regular... pretty good. THE ONLY THING I DIDN'T LIKE IS THAT THEY SELL YOU THE FLAVOR CREAMERS FOR 10cents. I mean they can just boost up the price on product to cover that fee and give them out. It's sorta, kinda okay. The variety is lacking and their donuts aren't the freshest. The service is okay but they aren't the best at varying the "assorted". Home girl gave me like 3 of the same donut. The maple donut just tastes like sugar. The old fashioned is bland and just tastes like sugar (I prefer there to be a sour/butter milk flavor). The cake donuts were soft (soggy) and old. I'm actually upset I went here. It wasn't extremely horrible it just was underwhelming. Insanely good hours considering it's only got one to two people at a time. Very fair pricing, Their sandwiches and donuts are delicious and I cant wait until two more hours when they open, with their great customer service and all, and I can get my late night/early morning munchies taken care of. So the other day me and my friends went on a mission to get some donuts . We heard this place was fire and we wanted to try it out so bad. We ended up making it there and it took so long to get there considering there was traffic. My daughter spotted California Donuts as we were driving up California Street....of course she had California Donuts in Korea Town in mind; needless to say upon stepping into the shop we were graced with a warm welcome. The guy was very friendly and stated that unfortunately they are not affiliated with the other California Donuts. He provided us with a sample of the Blueberry Glaze Donut it was rather tasty. I purchased a few donut holes and a glaze donut; my girls enjoyed them. I have a thing for great customer service...I must admit that the customer service was OUTSTANDING and greatly appreciated. This is NOT the California Donuts that you're thinking...no cute panda or Snickers donuts here, this place just happens to share the same name as the spot in Koreatown (the real California Donuts). Other Yelp reviewer have mistakenly posed photos from the California Donuts shop in K-town...this is not it. It's a really little donut shop on the corner, Super hot, not a lot of space to sit and there's one small table outside. The guy in the shop was super nice but I got a bible school lesson while I was checking out...that was awkward. The donuts here are nothing to write home about, but they're no better or no worse than something you'd buy at any other mom and pop donut shop. I was super disappointed by the donuts. I get that they have some pretty cool looking ones but that's kind of all they are. The doughnuts themselves tasted like cardboard & sugar with a glaze. The service isn't much really. You get your doughnuts, pay for them, and that's it. it's through a glass window so not much contact. Came here with my cousin looking to satisfy that late donut craving. Looks like they put just enough love into making these. Perfectly round and fluffy, mouth watering. I didn't make it back to the parking lot without eating two. Granted we bought about a dozen. So god we had to finish a few outside. Always Always fresh doughnuts. Very friendly and always welcoming vibe from the staff. PS support our local businesses besides they are way better than the big corporation doughnut shops. As some review stated no they are not affiliated with the Korea-town doughnut shop but who cares on weekends they sometimes do some "creative" fancy doughnuts.
