Unexpectly great Mexican food. Very good service. This place did not look like it was exceptional, but it was.

Tonight my boyfriend and I enjoyed a scrumptious dinner at Olvera's! I had the #45 with the Taco, chili relleno, and enchilada. Marci ordered the taco and enchilada or #00. I got ground beef in my taco and grilled chicken for my enchilada. The taco was super crunchy and the meat was well seasoned. The atmosphere is authentic with beautiful Mexican music playing in the background and lovely art on the wall. This place is a hidden gem. I wasn't aware it existed until my manager came to visit a few months ago. My manager's office is in Orange county, he rarely comes to the desert but had looked for a place to have lunch prior to his visit. He found Olvera's during his search and invited me to join him. Somehow, I had never heard of this place, which is a shame because its one of the best meals I have had at such a good price. Their service is fast too. Every table was full, yet we got our food in less than 15 minutes after ordering. How did I never hear of this restaurant before? My manager has come to visit me three more times since that initial visit, we go to Olvera's when he comes by. It's the same great service each time. read more

Great little restaurant. Parking was easy. It was close by the Elks lodge where we were camping. Food was very good. Looked like a bunch of retired locals got this place as a regular. Enjoy. It is small and may have to wait to get in. I think it has a bar but we didn't partake. Hot and smoking in Ridgecrest but it pleasant inside. read more

My first time in this town and I was in need of some warm soup. They had sopa de albóndigas and it was tasty and perfect. Reminded me very much of my own cooking. We also had some margaritas and those were tasty. For the price and authenticity it was better then good! read more

The service is great. Plenty to choose from. I had a chile rellano burrito, Good with there spicy salsa. Husband had the trio tacos, grilled chicken, pork and carne asada. He said we will be back. Want to try the shrimp Diablo or huevos rancheros. read more

Service was great and prices are cheap. I ordered the carne asada tacos. The refried beans were good, the tortillas were delicious ( tasted homemade) the meat definitely needs seasoning and the rice lacked flavor. read more

After reading all the great reviews I was really looking forward to giving them a try. I ordered #54 - Cabo San Lucas Carnitas. Husband ordered the garlic mushroom appetizer. The appetizer was unique. Not sure how to describe it, but neither of us loved it. When the entree arrived I could tell by just looking at the carnitas that they were dry. Looks like they had some leftovers from a day or more prior, and just threw it in a microwave. The beans and rice were good enough that I poured them on top and ate the meal. I think the flour tortillas were store bought, dried out and rubbery. We will not be going back. read more

I need to give Olveras a shout out. Fresh, fresh, fresh, and homemade! We started coming here because it is the only place that has pasole and my husband craves it. But they also have a vegetarian burrito with.. wait for it...actual vegetables! Most places just fill it with beans and rice, guacamole and cheese, maybe some lettuce. But theirs is filled with delicious sauteed vegetables. I usually order it wet, and the enchilada sauce tastes flavorful. Everywhere else has red sauce that tastes like it comes from a can, but here it tastes like delicious homemade sauce. Even the whole pinto beans in the side taste homemade, not canned refried beans that I have come to expect elsewhere. This place is homey comfort food at it's best, and after a long day, it's all I want to eat. Thank you Olveras for making food that makes me feel good! read more

This was such a gem to find downtown. Definitely enjoyed the food we ordered. The carnitas tacos, Chile relleno, chicken tamale were all delicious! The atmosphere was nice and staff friendly. It's a must try if you're ever in the mood for Mexican food. read more

Um. So good. What a gem. We got takeout and took it to Flight Line. I got the beef enchiladas (which seems to have been made with ropa viejas) and a chili relleno. The rice and beans were also bomb. Chips 'n salsa were solid. read more

Great food! If you're in the mood for Mexican food then this place is one of the very few places in Ridgecrest that hits the spot. They never disappoint, they have great service and good prices. Authentic Mexican food! We were visiting family on Labor Day and not many restaurants were open. We stumbled upon this quaint Mexican restaurant - so glad we did! The staff - very friendly and prices are reasonable! When we first got there, there was only 3 other customers but it got busy after a while. Regardless of the busyness, there was always someone available if u needed something. The food was delicious and portions were just right. Def will come back here again if/when we're around the area. Ordered dinner last night through door dash. Asked for no onions on any items in everything I ordered. As surprising as it is one of my family members are allergic to onions. A lot of people don't think people can be allergic to onions, well folks they can. Anyway, we were super excited to have this food last night. When we received it my family member had ordered the 5 taco plate. The top of the take out container said very plainly " no onions" open it up and everything was covered in onions. There was no way my family member could eat it. $20 down the drain. Please next time if you cannot not.put onions on the food tell us, don't take our order, let us find a different restaurant to order from, and don't put on the tops of the take out boxes that there is no onions when you clearly put onions on the food. read more

In Ridgecrest visiting for a few days and decided to take a chance on this restaurant. I ordered a combo plate to go - two tacos, one burrito with beans and rice. Food portions were generous and tasty. Everything tasted homemade. Price was very reasonable. I didn't have to wait long for the food, even though they were busy on a Sunday night. Staff were friendly and courteous. I appreciated that the food was not served in a styrofoam container. The only complaint I have is that they didn't include any plastic fork or knife, nor napkins. Luckily I had some plastic ware in my truck. I can highly recommend this place for the delicious food and good prices. read more

As always, the food was amazing quality and so flavorful. The chile relleno in combo #43 is so tender and never stringy at all! It was packed when we ordered but service was timely and all of the wait staff so polite and attentive. I noticed one of the waitresses, a middle aged woman who I did not happen to get the name of, was particularly attentive to all of the customers including myself. The setting sun was beginning to peak through the windows and was bright enough that I had to put my hand up to shade my eyes. I think she must have seen me or heard me mention it although I did not ask for the shades to be pulled down. She took care of it while checking on other tables. As always, all of the stars and excellent place to eat on a Saturday evening! (I did not get pictures of the food because I was too busy scarfing it down and savoring every bite!) read more

Had a site visit out here and the clinic referred us here for some good Mexican food. Two things that stood out: 1. The reviews aren't kidding about the drinks here. 1 is good, 2 is loopy. At their recommendation I had a Spice Girl margarita. I can't tell you what it was exactly, except it was slightly spicy, tamardindy and equally potent. 2. The food was homestyle and incredibly good. My companion had chicken with green salsa and it's one of the better ones I've had in years. Subtle, flavorful and tender. I opted for the carnitas. They were not the crunchy kind (my fav) but the flavoring and quality of the meat was impressive. Portions are not giant, but everything was on point. Decor : funky, odd and kinda fun. read more

Presidents' Day seemed to offer a lot of closed restaurants but we found Olvera's open. The building is a little older and the initial space you enter seems odd but when we entered the seating area hope was restored! Music played and the booths were inviting to sit and enjoy a meal. The menu was full of tasty choices. We ordered fish tacos, hard tacos (1 chicken and 1beef) and a chili relleno burrito. All were very good! The service was excellent too! The waiters/waitresses are very sweet. The place itself needs to be remodeled. It's definitely tight and not a lot of space to walk around.
