I should have trusted my gut when I saw how massive the menu was--usually a sign that nothing is done particularly well. I ordered a "large" burrito, and while it definitely lived up to the size, it completely missed on quality. The ingredients tasted bland and oddly inconsistent, like they were thrown together without much care. Worse, I ended up with a stomach ache shortly after eating, which made the whole experience even more disappointing. For a place that seems to offer everything, it doesn't seem to do anything right. This place was a pit stop from death valley national park. Their outdoor patio was nice with two TV's to watch sports. Their staff was super nice and asked us many questions to make sure we were taken care of. As for the food. It was kinda meh. I ordered the tecate tacos with carnitas, asada & chicken and all of them were dry. They didn't have salsas outside of what the tortilla chips were. The place is good for casual dining, has a great atmosphere, and has great food. Really bad food! I am a Mexican, I grew up eating Mexican food everyday at home and in every restaurant en Mexico when I was out with friends and family. This restaurant does NOT cook their food fresh. Starting with their menu full of advertisements. I decided to give it a try since has "good reviews" (wondering if those reviews are from real people). I ordered sopes. I thought, how can you go wrong with sopes. Well! They did, I could not even chew the first bit, the meat was cold but overly fried, the rice seemed like came from a box and then painted with red sauce, the beans were really weird, not the right flavour, texture and colour. Not coming back to this place ever. Almost forgot! We had to wait a very long time for our food. The waitress was rude and didn't want to understand Spanish or English, very weird. Then some guy came to ask if everything was ok, I said no, told him all that was wrong with my order and offered a replacement I said No thanks, so I didn't have to pay for the sopes I couldn't eat. read more

The remodel is great! To enjoy sun, a game on the tv, and delicious food you can sit in the patio area. For more of an intimate setting you can dine inside. They take great care of you! Had my first visit to Ridgecrest yesterday for work and after doing the obligatory yelp search for nearby places settled on Olvera's, the reviews were good and I was in the mood for Mexican food. I'm usually a chile verde or colorado guy but I saw a review for the Mexican Flag enchiladas and it just looked really good so I opted to try it out and I was not disappointed. The green sauce has a great tang to it and it's nicely flavored, the red sauce was really good as well good strong flavor and complimented the cheese enchilada. The white sauce was a little lacking, it could have used some more flavor but it wasn't bad by any stretch. The salsa is kind of bland, I'd all it a garden salsa, mostly tomato forward. Overall though it was a good experience and I'd definitely come back if I find myself out in Ridgecrest again. Recommend giving it a try if you find yourself in the area. read more

This is my opinion in earnest: Myself, and my guests had the most excellent experience here; we had come over 70 miles from Kernville and Alta Sierra to do some business of a different matter. The food was exceptional. The service was above-and-beyond extraordinary, as the owner came out to greet us in person, to attend to our every need with a humble smile - that is to say, he is amazing. I am mildly allergic to a certain ingredient that was used in the albondigas and could not eat it. The owner rushed over and inquired as to why I was not eating my soup, and when I informed him, he WHISKED it away from the table and rushed me in TWO enchiladas to compensate. My poor (physical) reaction to the ingredients in the soup is of NO FAULT of the chef OR the owner, but he insisted he made things right, though I did not ask for such... I have had this problem before and was no stranger to issues such as these, and was fully prepared to pay for the soup, knowing it was no fault of the establishment. I just thought that, in my humble opinion, such a gesture deserves praise... and you can bet your last dime this is my new go-to for Hispanic cuisine and friendly atmosphere . I am duly impressed and forever grateful. NOTE: When you are far from home, you are easy prey to bad vendors and lousy deals. The fear of the unknown can be daunting, top say the least. The security of knowing you're safe spending your hard-earned money is has become increasingly more valuable in these trying times. We stopped here for a quick brunch before we headed out to Death Valley and were pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. The complementary chips and salsa were delicious too and it did seem like the chips were fresh. They were happy to accommodate vegetarian preferences. The chili relleno was not too breaded as it is in most places. The rice and breads were great. I was not a huge fan of the vegetarian burrito as it was primarily roasted vegetable (zucchini etc.) inside. I should have asked them to add guacamole on the vegetarian taco as well as I'm sure they would have considered it. Even though the staff are Mexican, and even though we're in California, the clientele are all old white people and the food frankly tastes like it. It's perfectly edible and fine, and the chile relleno had a nice spicy flavor, but the shredded cheese and crispy taco shell was not my favorite (though to be fair, the taco shell was quite fresh). Finally tried this place and the food was absolutely delicious. I got the tacquito plate and my husband got the fish tacos. Both came with rice and beans which were the best I've ever had. The first time I came the food was extremely salty... saltier than any food I've ever had anywhere. I'm glad I gave it another shot because it was much better the second and third time. This place is a hidden gem. I wasn't aware it existed until my manager came to visit a few months ago. My manager's office is in Orange county, he rarely comes to the desert but had looked for a place to have lunch prior to his visit. He found Olvera's during his search and invited me to join him. Somehow, I had never heard of this place, which is a shame because its one of the best meals I have had at such a good price. Their service is fast too. Every table was full, yet we got our food in less than 15 minutes after ordering. How did I never hear of this restaurant before? My manager has come to visit me three more times since that initial visit, we go to Olvera's when he comes by. It's the same great service each time. read more
