Sometimes you run across a place when traveling that makes you sad because you won't be able to be a regular. This is that kind of place for so many reasons. First off, I came across Tacos el Gordito on yelp and immediately knew that's where we wanted to grab dinner from. We went to the dolphin avenue location that was listed and couldn't find it, so I called the number listed and got the voicemail. Quickly they called me back and sent me the address of where they were in the evening, at 1033 W Inyokern Rd, which was so kind and I appreciated that service! Immediately upon arrival, you are greeted by the picture of their beautiful family on the outside of the truck and we quickly learned the story of their "Gordito" and how they have run their business in honor of their late son. Before we had even tried a bit of their incredible food, we were already touched by the story and meaning behind their business! And then, we ate the food and oh my goodness was it delicious! We got the quesabirria combo (must try!!!) and then three tacos- pescada, carne asada, and barbacoa. We devoured it all and were in awe of how delicious it is. What an honor it was to meet this incredible couple, learn about the amazing way they honor their son, and enjoy their delicious food. Im out here working for the week and this was my go to place. being mexican im very picky about Mexican food. i dont do that fake texmex mexican food, this food truck has the best mexican food in Ridgecrest. had a QuesoTorta and was surprised how good it is. love it i definitely recommend if you're in town, staff is very friendly and locally respected. they have a bench outside with shade or plenty of space to park and eat. read more

I just want to say thank you for the help at the Great Orion Starfest. I asked for just chicken and rice and didn't say I needed it because my dog was sick. The lovely young woman didn't question me about why I wanted to pick their food apart, just told me they could give me that meat out of a taco and a side of rice. The only thing I regret is not getting a take home for me. Every one who picked up while I was waiting loved theirs. (and that combo did help my poor old hound.) Thanks Tacos el Gordito. Really gone down hill and prices have gotten high, especially for the burrito and quesadilla. Quesadilla was about as full as a taco bell quesadilla for twice the money. Last time I got a quesabirra that was very small and they where put of consume. Found this place while working in Ridgecrest for a couple months now. Food is delicious and the owners are very nice people. It's a small food truck located on the south end of town. I have been trying local restaurants looking for good food choices and this is honestly the best food I've found. Simple but very tasty. I have tried the carnitas, chicken and asada tacos which are all great but my favorite is the quesabirria, Sooo good!! Everything tastes fresh. This is my go to and I have been eating here at least twice a week. Thank you for giving me something great to eat after work. Not from here, got this review from a hotel. This was a longer wait than normal but so worth it. Between all three of us we got 4 different types of meat, Barbacoa, asada, marinated pork and fish tacos. Everything we got was above average. Try their Quesabirria tacos. This was the first time I ever heard of and ate Quesabirria tacos. Although birria is goat meat; in Mexico the tradition is more about the style, and so any meat can be used. Gordito uses barbacoa beef for these tacos. They are a cross between a quesadilla and a taco. But it looks like the tortilla is dipped in a sauce and then fried. They are really good, and come with sliced radishes & cucumbers, and a wedge of lemon. I also had a carnitas burrito and asked for avocado. Most places give you sushi slices worth of avocado; but Gordito had to have used at least half an avocado. Be warned if you can't handle hot sauce, because I had sweat dripping down my face. Their red and green salsas are good. If you need mild, then ask for their "pico de gallo" which is a mild chopped dry salsa. The owners of this food truck are very friendly and run a great business.
